"Disability can be said to be open club where anyone can join at any time, not by choice, but by circumstances". According to the 2011 UN World Report on Disability, about 80 to 90 percent of persons living with disability in development countries are unemployed. Being a physically challenged person yet making incredible strides in the field of professional journalism in Ghana, Paul Anomah-Kordieh paints the picture of what it means to be physically challenged or disabled in developing countries. Paul ANOMAH-KORDIEH is a blind journalist with eTV Ghana. Born in 1979 and loosing his sight at a young age of five, he started his career as a journalist with Radio VALCO in the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. 08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills 1. "Tell me a little about yourself." You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly. 2. "What are your strengths?" This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for. 3. "What are your weaknesses?" For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for. 4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience. This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear. 5. "What do you know about our company?" A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer. 6. "Are you good at dealing with change?" Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change. 7. "Do you work well under pressure?" In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better. 8. "How do you make important decisions?" There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

The World Bank and other international aid agencies have long been engaged in programs to strengthen public administration functions of client country governments across the developing world. Questions about how effective such efforts have been in bolstering public sector performance remain unanswered. And, in a fast-evolving aid environment, the future of donor support for public administration reforms faces a range of challenges. Drawing on decades of cross-regional operational experience, Nunberg’s talk highlights the contextual drivers of these programs, identifies some of the constraints that have inhibited their success, and offers ideas for improving the record going forward. Barbara Nunberg is a leading expert on international public management and governance, specializing on civil service reform in developing areas, on which she consults to a wide range of international organizations and governments and has published extensively. Much of her career was at the World Bank, where she held a series of progressively senior posts and was engaged in analytic and operational work in all geographic regions. In her last position, she headed the Public Sector Reform program for East Asia and the Pacific. She is currently Visiting Scholar at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. She has taught on a visiting basis at UC Berkeley, Georgetown, Duke and NYU and has been a Visiting Fellow at UCLA’s School of Public Affairs and Harvard’s Kennedy School. She recently served as Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Her current research interests center on public human resource management in Brazil, institutional issues in international development assistance, and the politics of civil service reform in post-conflict settings. Nunberg holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Stanford University and a B.A. from Barnard College.

Whether acting as a United Nations Field Officer or as a local student volunteer, Tanya De Mello's work has always been focused on building communities. Whether it's through creating community service initiatives at universities, managing humanitarian aid donations in Senegal or assisting with refugee relocation planning, Tanya excels at bringing people together around shared ideas to build vibrant communities. Her commitment and zeal for enacting change has earned her several distinctions, including McGill's prestigious Scarlet Key Award and Princeton's esteemed Donald E. Stokes Award for leadership and academic excellence. Between co-founding two Non-Governmental Organizations and working for the United Nations, Tanya finds the time to kick-start new initiatives such as the Community Action -- a community-led group that organizes charity fundraisers for legal aid and student to work not just in the community, but with the community. One recent project called "Community Captured", was a photo display that addressed the complex dimensions of pressing social issues, while inviting community members and organizations alike to participate in the process of creating change. And what's the common denominator that underlies all of her achievements? Tanya firmly believes that efforts taken to bring about change, even at a very local level, can be as transformative as the largest of international development projects. Start small, but start now -- that is what will make the greatest difference tomorrow. http://www.tedxuw.com/speakers/tanya-de-mello/ --- In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. You can watch the entire course on Unacademy.com here:- https://goo.gl/6ZlXRU | Download the Unacademy Learning App from the Google Play Store here:- https://goo.gl/02OhYI | Discuss this course with fellow aspirants here:- https://goo.gl/Yemaqs The most comprehensive course on poverty, employment, and unemployment explained both from the general and India's perspective. Ayussh Sanghi has explained every little detail with the best examples. Must-watch for aspirants of all the major government examinations - UPSC CSE/IAS, SSC CGL, Bank PO, and more. Poverty is general scarcity or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the lack of means necessary to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Absolute poverty is meant to be the same independent of location. Relative poverty occurs when people in a country do not enjoy a certain minimum level of living standards as compared to the rest of the population and so would vary from country to country, sometimes within the same country. Employment is a relationship between two parties, usually based on a contract where work is paid for, where one party, which may be a corporation, for profit, not-for-profit organization, co-operative or other entity is the employer and the other is the employee. Employees work in return for payment, which may be in the form of an hourly wage, by piecework or an annual salary, depending on the type of work an employee does or which sector she or he is working in. Employees in some fields or sectors may receive gratuities, bonus payment or stock options. In some types of employment, employees may receive benefits in addition to payment. Benefits can include health insurance, housing, disability insurance or use of a gym. Employment is typically governed by employment laws or regulations or legal contracts. The unemployment rate is a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in the labor force. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate. According to International Labour Organization report, more than 200 million people globally or 6% of the world's workforce were without a job in 2012. There remains considerable theoretical debate regarding the causes, consequences, and solutions for unemployment. Classical economics, new classical economics, and the Austrian School of economics argue that market mechanisms are reliable means of resolving unemployment. These theories argue against interventions imposed on the labor market from the outside such, as unionization, bureaucratic work rules, minimum wage laws, taxes, and other regulations that they claim discourage the hiring of workers. Keynesian economics emphasizes the cyclical nature of unemployment and recommends government interventions in the economy that it claims will reduce unemployment during recessions. This theory focuses on recurrent shocks that suddenly reduce aggregate demand for goods and services and thus reduce demand for workers. Keynesian models recommend government interventions designed to increase demand for workers; these can include financial stimuli, publicly funded job creation, and expansionist monetary policies. Its namesake economist John Maynard Keynes, believed that the root cause of unemployment is the desire of investors to receive more money rather than produce more products, which is not possible without public bodies producing new money. How much should you get paid for your job? Well, that depends on a lot of factors. Your skill set, the demand for the skills you have, and what other people are getting paid around you all factor in. In a lot of ways, labor markets work on supply and demand, just like many of the markets we talk about in Crash Course Econ. But, again, there aren't a lot of pure, true markets in the world. There are all kinds of oddities and regulations that change the way labor markets work. One common (and kind of controversial one) is the minimum wage. The minimum wage has potential upsides and downsides, and we'll take a look at the various arguments for an against it. Crash Course is on Patreon! By Cary Griffin This presentation uses numerous examples from urban, suburban and rural settings to illustrate how Discovering Personal Genius is used to develop solid vocational themes that drive targeted, individualized, and creative job development. Customized Employment techniques are examined, and an emerging structure resulting in the development of at least 3 vocational themes supported by 20 local work environments for each theme “where the career makes sense” combine to form a solid person-centered career plan. This session includes discussion of business ownership as a viable option; leveraging social & economic capital, supply chain mining, and team roles. Staff development recommendations and resources will be highlighted. Further, this session will detail how the non-comparative approaches to job development used in Customized Employment, as opposed to traditional competitive models, benefit people with disabilities, and how negotiated jobs demand attention to skills & tasks, economic development, and shared interests between applicant and employer. https://rrtc.vcu.edu/

A well written cover letter could increase your chances of an interview by 50%. We'll show you how to write an awesome cover letter that impresses employers. Source : https://www.zipjob.com/blog/write-awesome-cover-letter-samples-included-zipjob/ Writing a good cover letter is a crucial step in the job search process, yet many people don’t write one or don’t put in the time to write an effective one. So how do you write the perfect cover letter? This short video will give you the necessary steps to create an effective cover letter that helps you land interviews. We often hear people ask - Do I need to send a cover letter? The answer is yes. You should always send a cover letter unless the job posting says no cover letter is required. The point of a cover letter is to give a bit of an introduction as to who you are, your interest in the position, and why you think you’d make a good fit. It also adds a human touch to the plain old boring resume. Ok, So let's get started…. The first thing we’re going to cover is the format and then we’ll cover the things you absolutely need to mention in your cover letter if you want to stand out from the hundreds of other job seekers. Ok let's take a look at how a cover letter should be formatted.. As you see in our template, your header should be your name , contact number and email address. You can keep it similar to the header on your resume but don’t include your address. You should then include the receiver's name, title, company name and address. If you can’t find the name of the hiring manager, you could leave that off. You can address the letter as “dear hiring manager” but always try to make an effort to find out the hiring manager in charge. You should try to keep your cover letter between a half a page to ⅔ of a page long. Remember that most employers only spend a few seconds going through your resume and cover letter. No one wants to read an in- depth page long cover letter. Three paragraphs is a good length and we’ll go through what each paragraph should contain - we’ll then show you an example of an excellent cover letter. Paragraph 1 should be an introduction to who you are and the position you’re applying for. Include where or how you found the opening, The title and a job ID number if there is one. You should also lead into the next paragraph by stating a brief summary of qualifications or your interest in the position. The second paragraph should discuss your qualifications and the achievements which show why you’re a good fit for the position. Remember that you want to stand out from the other hundreds of candidates that are applying for the position. So don’t just give examples of what you did in your last position, show how you went above and beyond. Mention a few examples of quantifiable or measurable achievements in your career. Use compelling language and don’t repeat the information in your resume. Try to bring your experience to life and this will encourage the reader to look into your resume in more detail. In the third and last paragraph, Close it out by saying you feel that you’re a good fit based on your qualifications. Remember, you should include a call of action - which in this case would be inviting you to an interview. Ask them to give you call and schedule in interview. And the The last thing you should do is thank them for taking the time out to consider you. Lets put this template into action. Here is an example of a great cover letter: Hi Susan, I’m writing to you to express my interest in the Accounting position you have open on your company website with the job ID# 11220. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and am confident that my experience and skill set would be a great match for this position. I have a strong knowledge of accounting principles backed by experience I have gained in the last 12 years. In my previous position, I managed the accounting of a financial consulting firm with over $30 million in revenue. I not only met expectations but exceeded them by increasing cash flow by $4 million. I helped achieve this by changing our accounts receivable policy and negotiating better contracts. There is more depth on my experience and skills in my resume which I would appreciate you looking over. I am certain that my experience and skill set would make me a great candidate for this position as well as a great asset to your company. Please give me a call at the number above to schedule an interview at your convenience. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, John Smith So there you have it. Remember to include these 3 points in your resume - * Who you are * Your qualifications and how they can benefit the employer * And a call to action asking to schedule an interview.

Mainstream career advice tells us to “follow our passion”, but this advice is dead wrong. Research shows that people who take this approach are ultimately no more likely to enjoy or excel at their jobs. Executive director of Stanford’s design program at the d.School, Bill Burnett uses design thinking, a career’s worth of starting companies and coaching students, and a childhood spent drawing cars and airplanes under his Grandmother’s sewing machine to inform his work on how to design your life. In five eyebrow-raising findings, Burnett offers simple but life-changing advice on designing the life you want, whether you are contemplating college or retirement. After years of drawing cars and airplanes under his Grandmother’s sewing machine, Bill Burnett went to college where he discovered that there were people in the world who did this kind of thing every day (without the sewing machine), and they were called designers. Thirty years, five companies, and a couple thousand students later, Burnett is still drawing and building things, teaching others how to do the same, and quietly enjoying the fact that no one has discovered that he is having too much fun. As Executive Director of the Design Program at Stanford, he runs undergraduate and graduate programs in design, both interdepartmental programs between the mechanical engineering and art departments. Burnett worked on design of the award-winning Apple PowerBooks and the original Hasbro Star Wars action figures. He holds a number of mechanical and design patents. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
