5 Hormones Responsible For Weight Gain In Women | Hormonal Imbalance In Women Have you tried everything possible to lose weight but in vain? Why not get your hormones checked? Women are vulnerable to hormonal imbalance, food cravings and slow metabolism at all phases of their life. These may be related to pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), pregnancy, menopause or day to day stress. In Today's video Remedies One will discuss 5 Hormones Responsible For Weight Gain In Women and in 2nd part i will discuss how to treat these Hormons . 1. Thyroid, The thyroid gland, which is present at the base of your neck produces three hormones—T3, T4, and calcitonin. These hormones regulate metabolism, sleep, heart rate, growth, brain development, etc. Sometimes the thyroid gland under-produces the thyroid hormone leading to hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is often associated with weight gain, depression, constipation, fatigue, high blood cholesterol, slow heart rate. 2. Insulin, Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas, which helps to carry the glucose into the cells to be used as energy or to store them as fat. This helps maintain the glucose levels in the blood. Over consuming processed foods, alcohol, artificially sweetened drinks, and snacking on unhealthy foods (or even consuming too many fruits) can lead to insulin resistance. In this case, the muscle cells are not able to recognize glucose-bound insulin, and therefore glucose remains in the bloodstream causing a spike in blood sugar levels. This finally leads to weight gain and Type 2 diabetes. 3. Leptin, Under normal conditions, the hormone leptin signals that you are full and should stop eating. But due to overconsumption of foods that are high in sugar content such as candies, chocolates, fruits (that are modified to contain a lot more fructose), and processed foods, the oversupply of fructose is converted to fat that gets deposited in liver, belly and other regions of the body. Now, fat cells secrete leptin. As you keep consuming more fructose-containing foods, more fat gets accumulated, and more leptin is secreted. This, in turn, desensitizes the body to leptin and the brain stops receiving the signal to stop eating. This ultimately leads to weight gain. Nothing helps the body work like it should than when its hormones are perfectly balanced. The key to making sure that women’s bodies are hormonally balanced is making sure that their estrogen levels are where they need to be. Estrogen also plays an important role regulating the menstrual cycle. Bloating and a decreased sex drive are just two indicators of estrogen dominance—what takes place when your estrogen level gets and stays too high. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of too much estrogen can help you know to make sure your hormones stay regulated. Weight loss, high blood pressure, diabetes, and pregnancy are some of culprits of estrogen dominance. Let’s take a closer look at these and more. Here are 10 signs that you have estrogen dominance: 1. Weight Gain Putting on more than a few extra pounds can be an indication of too much estrogen. It causes bloating and makes it even harder to lose the weight. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, your estrogen can’t suffer rapid changes. 2. Heavy Menstruation When your estrogen levels rise, it can have the unwanted side effect of giving you a heavier period than normal. So, if that happens, you might want to consider having your estrogen level checked. 3. Decreased Sex Drive When you just don’t want intimacy with your significant other, it could mean a significantly increased amount of estrogen. High amounts of estrogen point to a lowered sex drive; however, you don’t want your estrogen to fall too low. It can also affect your desire for sex. 4. Irregular Period As we’ve already seen, your hormones and your period are closely related. When your estrogen fluctuates more than it should, the time between your period becomes unpredictable also. 5. Swollen Breasts When your hormone levels change, your breasts can become overly sensitive. So, when your breasts get tender to the touch, it might mean that you’ve got too much estrogen. 6. Changes in Mood Estrogen can affect your mental health. Too much of the female hormone has been attributed to panic and anxiety attacks as well as depression. 7. Frequent Headaches Have you recently experienced migraine headaches? Have you begun to get headaches more than normal? These issues could be cause by estrogen dominance. 8. Hair Loss When your body produces too much estrogen, your hair begins to thin. As it thins, it begins to fall out. Balancing your estrogen levels can take care of this irritating problem. 9. Insomnia When you’re having trouble sleeping, the cause could be too much estrogen. Our bodies know when there are problems and often times has problems adjusting. Sleep loss can be a reflection of that. 10. Cold Extremities Estrogen levels can affect circulation too. If your hormone levels are abnormal it could be the reason you're having a hard time keeping your hands and feet warm. Balance Your Hormone Levels with These 5 Foods 1. Rosemary Rosemary doesn’t just add flavor to your favorite recipes. It can also improve memory function, boost your metabolism, and contribute to a properly functioning thyroid. Best of all, rosemary is one of the foods responsible for producing estrogen. 2. Cruciferous Vegetables I3C, or indole-3-carbinol as this nutrient is properly known, is found in cruciferous vegetables like spinach, bok choy, kale, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli. These all have the important job of ridding the body of excess estrogen because the I3C converts into a substance that helps the liver flush the body when it has too much estrogen. 3. Flaxseed Another food that assists in getting rid of excess estrogen is flaxseed. The lignans and phytoestrogens present in these tiny seeds help regulate estrogen in the body by controlling how much of the hormone is able to bind to estrogen receptors. 4. Isoflavones Found in several herbs such as Trifolium pratense, Puerari montana, and Pueraria lobata, isoflavones have antioxidant properties that boost low estrogen levels. These herbs can be found in certain teas and are a great way to balance estrogen levels. 5. Activated Folic Acid You often hear about the importance of folic acid in women’s health. That’s because it’s present in the same leafy green vegetables that are high in I3C. It’s able to change estrogen into a form that actually lowers the risk of some forms of cancer. http://getleantoday.com - Dr. Raj Banerjee shares details about the causes of female hormone imbalance. The major reason why these cosmic cycles become disrupted is due to stress. The daily living pattern is disrupted, that influences the monthly rhythm. There are three major types of stress: emotional stress, dietary stress and the stress of pain and hidden inflammation, which are the 3 major triggers. Now when cortisol levels go up. it is important to realize that cortisol is responsible of three things: blood sugar control, fat burning metabolism, and also an anti-inflammatory hormone, which helps to control pain and inflammation. And it’s a mood stabilizer. It helps us keep happy and have a stable mood. So anything that is going to affect your cortisol is going to get you to store fat, put on weight, its going to cause you to get depressed and have a low mood. And its going to cause you to have difficulties in controlling pain and inflammation. And can lead to chronic pain and inflammation. And when the adrenal glands are burned out, or used up, or exhausted we become very fatigued. That could lead to chronic fatigue symptoms. So anyone that has any level of chronic fatigue or excessive fatigue by definition has adrenal exhaustion going on. Anyone that has any level of chronic pain or inflammation in their body is going through a lot of stress in their cortisol. And anyone that is overweight is going to have a problem with there cortisol levels. So stabilizing cortisol and DHEA levels helps people burn body fat, reduces pain and inflammation and improves mood and energy levels. Dr Raj wants you to know ovarian hormones and female hormones do not spontaneously malfunction by themselves. They are responding to stress as a stress hormone called cortisol. Every molecule of cortisol that you produce comes from progesterone. When you under stress guess what happens? Your cortisol goes up and your progesterone drops. Dr Raj can test your cortisol and fix it. He can test your female hormones and fix your whole hormonal system at the same time and eliminate all your symptoms. This will help eliminate depression and fatigue, night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings and it will improve your metabolism so you will able to start losing weight effectively. It’s not easy being female, trust me I know ;-) About 60-70% job all my patients are women. It’s not that men don’t need functional medicine, it that they think they don’t or they are too tough to need it. Women suffer from the hormonal ups and downs each month and through puberty and then menopause can range from mildly irritating to downright debilitating. Although many, if not most, women suffer from some degree of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), the extreme health and mood imbalances associated with PMS and menopause are a sign your system is out of whack, often due to stress, among other issues. Hormone balance is very sensitive to stress, inflammation, toxins, poor diet, sleep deprivation, lack of exercise, too little sunlight, and other common factors of modern life. Because the reproductive hormones play an important role in brain health, mood, and brain inflammation, when they’re imbalanced, brain function and mood suffer. In women, imbalances are characterized by excess estrogen, insufficient progesterone, or too much testosterone. Both stress and blood sugar that is either too low (hypoglycemia) or too high (insulin resistance) are the most common culprits of PMS symptoms and a miserable menopause transition. Symptoms of hormonal imbalances in women include: • Frequent or irregular menstruation • Mood instability • Depression • Problems sleeping • Changes in weight or appetite • Cry easily • Irritable • Poor concentration • Anxiety • Fatigue • Low libido • Migraines Low pregnenolone/progesterone from chronic stress One of the more common reasons for hormonal imbalance is low progesterone caused by chronic stress. This is a mechanism called “pregnenolone steal,” when chronic stress robs the compounds needed to make progesterone to make stress hormones instead. This leads to PMS and sets the stage for a miserable menopause transition. When it comes to stress, the brain does not know whether you are angry at traffic, soaring and crashing after consuming a glazed donut and triple-shot caramel latte, or narrowly escaping being trampled by a bison, or chased by a lion. All it knows is to prepare for fight or flight and that reproduction hormones can wait until things have settled down. But for many sleep-deprived, over-stressed Americans fueled on caffeine and sugar, settling down rarely happens. This leads to an over production of cortisol and a decrease in pregnenolone and/or progesterone leading to a decrease in hormones. visit www.premierifm.com for more info

My research finds that increases in testosterone is associated with increased preferences for sexually dimorphic (i.e., masculinity in males and femininity in females) characteristics and changes in self-perception. Specifically, research shows that testosterone influences perceptions by increasing preferences for masculine men and feminine women, and influencing men's perceptions of their own dominance. This research demonstrates that, far from being arbitrary, our preferences and perceptions are at least in part governed by biological processes and that beauty is not just in the eye of the beholder. Dr. Lisa Welling is an Assistant Professor at Oakland University. Her Ph.D., entitled Individual Differences in Face Preferences, was completed in 2008 and was funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Grounded in evolutionary reasoning, Dr. Welling’s research generally surrounds three related areas: hormonal influences on behavior, sources of adaptive mate preferences, and interpersonal relationships. In addition to having co-edited a book entitled Evolutionary Perspectives on Social Psychology, Dr. Welling has published five book chapters and more than fifty scientific journal articles. Her research has been featured in the media multiple times on programs including lthe Oprah Winfrey Show and the Discovery Channel documentary Curiosity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Why you don't manage to lose weight. In addition to a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet, hormones can play a role in weight gain. If you’ve been on one of the popular protein diets (meaning you eat only meat and have forgotten what carbs look like!) for over a month but your weight hasn’t changed, estrogen is probably to blame. To balance an excess of estrogen in your body, it’s recommended that you minimize your consumption of products rich in protein. If you want to find out which hormones might be an obstacle on your journey to the body of your dreams, watch our new video! And remember that all of the advice should be considered supplementary. If you think you have any hormonal problems, consult your doctor. Only a professional can give you the right diagnosis. TIMESTAMPS: An overbalance of estrogen 1:03 A deficit of serotonin 2:03 An excess of ghrelin 2:49 An excess of neuropeptide Y 4:04 An excess of prolactin 4:57 A deficit of glucagon 5:44 A deficit of adrenaline 6:28 An excess of testosterone 7:24 A deficit of adiponectin 7:58 #hormoneimbalance #hormones #hormonalstatus Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - High levels of estrogen make you gain weight despite the food you eat. This extra weight is mainly stored on your hips. In addition, your menstrual cycle becomes irregular, and you might have headaches or become overly emotional. - A serious lack of serotonin almost always manifests itself in depression and a bad mood. Moreover, people with a deficiency of serotonin often change their eating habits. - Ghrelin is a hormone that determines if you’re hungry or not, and it’s very stubborn! Even after a year on a low-calorie diet, your level of ghrelin could still be high (your body will try to store fat tissue just in case). - If the concentration of neuropeptide Y in your blood is high, you’ll end up with a ravenous appetite. This hormone can lead not only to simple weight gain but to clinical obesity. - A high level of prolactin leads to rapid weight gain. Women might notice that downy hair appears all over their body, a small mustache starts to grow, or their menstrual cycle changes. - Glucagon lowers your appetite and promotes fat digestion. The level of this hormone lowers after a stressful situation — and that’s how certain people begin stress eating. - Adrenaline (epinephrine) boosts metabolic processes and burns fat tissue. Epinephrine is all about the brightest emotions that you feel under certain (sometimes extreme) circumstances. - Testosterone is considered to be the male hormone, but it also plays an important role in the female body. An excess of testosterone leads to an increase in body weight, and fat tissue is stored in the upper parts of the body (arms, chest, and neck). - Excessive weight often indicates a lack of adiponectin, especially if the fat is mainly stored in the midsection. If you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it’s likely that the level of adiponectin in your body is too low. Hormone imbalance…How does it affect you? Nobody should be more concerned about your own health than you, and it’s up to you to take charge of yourself. On today’s show, Dr. Steven F. Hotze, M.D. and founder of the Hotze Health & Wellness Center, breaks down the effects of hormone imbalance, particularly for women. If your energy level is low, you’re going to experience low metabolism, joint and muscle aching, bowel discomfort, loss of romantic desires and more; A major cause of this is not having enough active natural thyroid in their bodies. Dr. Hotze takes a question from Faceboook Live to break down a situation where a 45-year-old woman has for 10 years now been experiencing horrible menstrual cycles, adrenal deficiency, weight gain, cyst and polyps and more. Dr. Hotze relays that these hormone imbalances are more common than most people may think, and the issues more often than not go undiagnosed. Decline in thyroid hormone means a decline in your energy levels and most likely an increase in weight gain; However, a natural thyroid supplementation plan can enable your cells to produce more energy, and as a result make you feel better physically. To take charge of your health and feel better naturally, visit www.doa180.com and also be sure to subscribe to our podcasts on iTunes, Google Play and more via www.hotzepodcast.com.

For years hormone replacement therapy has been thought of as a 'female' thing, most commonly used by women after menopause to relieve uncomfortable symptoms. "Especially if they are interfering with the activities of daily living. A lot of women get to the point where they can't sleep, they can't function, they have a fog almost like a brain fog and they can't work," says Dr. Mala Singh, family practitioner with Lee Memorial Health System. For a number of years HRT got a bad rap, linking it to severe health conditions, but new studies find it safe and effective to help low risk patients. "If you want good quality of life that's one of the options for you- if you're really being affected by it," says Dr. Singh. The biggest change in hormone therapy is the huge increase in people using it; mostly due to men taking testosterone. In the same way age affects women, men realize they can turn back symptoms by replenishing hormones. "When you are young you have high levels and as you age those levels gradually decrease. It can lead to a lot of symptoms and side effects from low testosterone that can be bothersome," says Dr. James Borden, urologist on Lee Memorial Health System's medical staff. They include low energy, muscle weakness, weight gain, bone density and low sex drive. The demand for treatment tripled over a 10 year period. It is only recommended for men with low-t levels, generally under 200. "If you're symptomatic from low testosterone it can be a dramatic improvement it really increase your energy and well-being," says Dr. Borden. They might work wonders, but there is no such thing as a magic pill. When you stop taking them, the benefits go away. "Even if you replace the hormones you can't be on it forever. At some point you'll have to get off them," says Dr. Singh. Welcome to Episode #138 of High Intensity Health Radio. Dr. Tyna more shares tips to balance hormones through strength training. ➢ Read the Interview Transcript: http://bit.ly/1T5a4pC ➢ Connect with Dr. Moore: http://corewellnesspdx.com/ ➢ Listen to the Audio in iTunes: http://highintensityhealth.com/itunes -----------------------------------------Lets Connect-------------------------------------- ➢ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike ➢ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS --------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------- 03:47 The Benefits of Strength Training: Dr. Moore found profound benefits. Her weight became better distributed. She found that if she wasn’t eating enough food, she wasn’t healing or gaining muscle or strength. It was then that she discovered that she was an under eater. When she began to increase her intake, she gained muscle. She also became more resilient and was thriving. 08:32 The Glute Journey: Dr. Moore saw a lot of patients with lumbar-pelvic pain in women. With her research into glutes, she realized that every one of them had atrophied glutes. When a patient lays on the table on their stomach, their sacrum should be in the middle and their glutes should rise like two mounds. The glutes of elderly people do not rise, and Dr. Moore was seeing this in many of her younger patients. Dr. Moore’s own lower back pain became lessened with glute work. She started with glute bridges and body weight squats. She tells everyone to hire a good trainer. 10:31 Hormones and Weights: A study of men with a body weight squat with a free weight barbell, compared to a leg press machine showed that over the release of testosterone and human growth hormone was more than 80% higher with the barbell. You can tweak your hormones by how you exercise. The compound movements, like the full squat puts a neural load on the whole system. 12:39 The Mindset of Weight Training: Cardio makes you better at cardio and you only receive the benefits while you are doing it. When you lift weights, you get after burn. 14:25 Hormones and Cardio: Dr. Moore sees gnarly changes in labs with runners. They tend to burn out their adrenals and then the rest of their hormones. She sees a number of runners and cyclists with diabetes. It comes down to skinny fat. You look thin, but metabolically you show up as pre-diabetic skinny fat. Being a thin diabetic is more dangerous than being a heavy diabetic. About 20% of our population is normal weight and metabolically obese. A study showed that type 2 diabetes starts with insulin resistant skeletal muscle in the leg tissue. Eighty percent of insulin latches to muscle tissue. The fastest way to get out of insulin resistance is to build muscle. The first thing your body does with the buildup of muscle is burn up the fat in your liver. 17:17 More Benefits of Strength Training: Dr. Moore began to see her thyroid antibody levels go down. Her testosterone and estrogen levels come up. Her blood sugar regulated better. It takes about 90 days of strength training for metabolic changes on labs and weight redistribution to come about. If we improve our diets at the same time, it happens more quickly. 19:01 Cardio vs Strength Training: Studies have shown that you need to do chronic cardio for 50 minutes a day 7 days a week and you may see 2 to 3 pounds of weight loss a month. Even that benefit drops off after a short time as your body adjusts to the exertion. Weight training is superior for reducing the prevalence of heart disease and diabetes. 21:41 Protecting Our Energy: We need to guard our energy, our thyroid, our adrenals and our hormones. Every food we eat and activity we do should be in support of these. Across the board, giving ourselves micro doses of the hormetic effect makes us stronger and harder to kill. 25:04 Abs vs Glutes: Dr. Moore asked her male friends which they preferred on a woman and they didn’t care about a 6 pack and a flat rear end. She sees many of her female patients who achieve the 6 pack abs, end up with trashed their hormones. Our abs are where we keep our estrogen. Her patients who have had a tummy tuck come in a few months later with trashed hormones. Our fat is an endocrine organ. 26:29 Your Glutes: Your spine comes down into your sacrum. If you focus on your gluteal strength, much of your body is worked in the process. You get the most benefit from posterior chain exercises, compound body movements, like deadlifts and squats. 29:15 Having a Little Fat is Protective: Dr. Moore experienced and often sees when people become very lean, their hormones tank. We feel better emotionally when we have a healthy bulk from lifting weights. 32:15 Fat is Burned in Mitochondria in Skeletal Muscles: The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn.

They're going to tell you that your thyroid is going to be destroyed. They're going to tell you that your hormones are going to be completely out of whack, and that you're never going to recover. Well, it's not quite the truth. In this video, I want to give you the A to Z breakdown of what happens to the female body during a fast, during intermittent fasting in particular. How often should a women fast? What can they expect? What's happening with their hormones and what's happening with their reproductive system? In this video, I'm going to take you through A to Z what goes on, starting with the starvation and the hunger hormones, leading into your reproductive hormones, then leading into your thyroid. Let's dive right in, and men, this video's for you, too, because it's going to help describe exactly what's going on in your body, as well. Okay, here's the thing. When it comes down to starvation hormones ... we're talking leptin, ghrelin, insulin, things like that that we have to be paying attention to when it comes down to hunger and satiation ... women are much more sensitive to them. It's nothing bad, nothing wrong with them. It's simply a protective mechanism. It's not the fact that the thyroid's shutting down. It's the fact that the female body is recognizing that there's no food coming in, so they don't want to be producing eggs. They don't want to be ovulating. It's natural. Why would a female body want to produce eggs to stimulate potential reproduction if they're not eating, if they're starving? That's where this whole thing starts. It all has to do with leptin, ghrelin, and insulin. But it goes much more than that. We're going to talk about what's happening with the brain and with the gonads now. Let's talk about GNRH. GNRH is a particular thing that is secreted by the hypothalamus in both males and females, and it has to do with what's called the hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis. I know lots of guys that are proud of the HPTA, thinking that it only has to do with testosterone and their male bodies. Oh, no. That's not the case. The HPTA axis, that entire process, is men and women. And here's how it works. Your brain has an area called the hypothalamus. This hypothalamus ends up secreting something known as GNRH. This GNRH tells the pituitary gland to produce luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. What these hormones end up doing is triggering the production of sperm and testosterone in men and producing ovulation and triggering progesterone and estrogen in women. They both do the same thing, just with a different end result. We still have the same catalyst, the same hormones. Now what ends up happening is how women go through this process compared to men. Now that we know GNRH and we understand the HPTA has to do with men and women, we can talk about the precursor to the GNRH, which is where the problem really starts, and that's something known as kisspeptin. Where the problem occurs with kisspeptin is just with people not knowing what's really going on. Most of the beef in the fasting community and most of the beef with women fasting in general all has to do with kisspeptin. . Hormones — such as estrogen, testosterone, adrenaline and insulin — are extremely important chemical messengers that affect many aspects of your overall health. Hormones are secreted by various glands and organs including your thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, ovaries, testicles and pancreas. The entire endocrine system works together to control the level of hormones circulating throughout your body, and if one or more is even even slightly imbalanced it can cause widespread, major health problems. Conventional treatments for hormonal imbalances usually include synthetic hormone replacement therapies, birth control pills, insulin injections, thyroid medications and more. Unfortunately, for the majority of people suffering from hormonal disorders, relying on these types of synthetic treatments often does three things. for more videos subscribe my channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAZF7S4woy2ch_EjfZxr02Q for facebook page, click the link https://www.facebook.com/How-to-do-325723564471633/

How to Balance Hormone Levels Naturally In Women and Men Proven Home Remedies https://youtu.be/paki-kKPdFA How to Balance Hormone Levels Naturally Hormones play an important role in our health as they affect many of the body’s processes. More often than not, hormonal imbalances are caused by changes in estrogen and are more common in females than males. Here are the top 10 home remedies for hormonal imbalance. 1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in producing hormones, hence they are highly beneficial in balancing them. 2. Maca Root: Maca root is an endocrine adaptogen that boosts normal hormone production. It also helps reverse hypothyroidism, increase fertility and is beneficial for libido. 3. Chasteberry: Chasteberry, also called vitex, is a great hormonal tonic for women and mimics the calming effect of progesterone. It stimulates the pituitary gland, thus regulating the balance of estrogen and progesterone. 4. Vitamin D: Vitamin D affects your pituitary gland, which produces a range of hormones. It can help relieve symptoms associated with low estrogen levels. It also affects your weight and appetite. A deficiency of this vitamin can lead to an abnormal release of parathyroid hormone. 5. Exercise: Engaging in physical activity is a great way to balance your hormones as it affects hormone production. It also lowers cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone that blocks estrogen and is detrimental to your overall health. 6. Coconut Oil: Extra-virgin coconut oil is another effective natural home remedy for balancing hormones. It is particularly useful for those suffering from hypothyroidism as its medium-chain fatty acids promote healthy thyroid functioning. 7. Fenugreek: Fenugreek seeds contain a phytoestrogen called diosgenin that is believed to have an estrogenic effect. Herbalists often recommend this herb for increasing lactation and natural breast enlargement. 8. Holy Basil: Holy basil is another excellent remedy for balancing hormones as it works as a natural adaptogen. It helps lower and stabilize cortisol levels; high levels of cortisol adversely affect the thyroid gland, ovaries and pancreas. 9. Asian Ginseng: Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng), also known as Korean red ginseng, helps regulate the adrenal gland that produces stress hormones. It acts as an adaptogen to keep a proper hormonal balance in your body. 10. Ashwagandha: Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a popular Ayurvedic herb that helps increase your energy and reduce stress and fatigue. Also, it helps restore your body’s hormonal balance as it acts as an adaptogen and reduces cortisol. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ashley Gordon of Austin describes testosterone replacement therapy for women, a potential fix for menopausal downsides. Most people think of testosterone primarily as a male sex hormone. While the female body produces less testosterone than the male body, the hormone also plays an incredibly important role in female health. “Everyone thinks of estrogen and progesterone as the hormones of being female,” says board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ashley Gordon of Austin. “Women really have several fold more testosterone than they actually have estrogen, which a lot of people don’t realize.” Having balanced hormones is important for optimal health. In both men and women, testosterone is responsible for a healthy libido. It affects mood, energy levels, bone density and muscle mass. Consequently, lowered levels of testosterone can lead to a low sex drive, decreased energy, mental fogginess, weight fluctuations, hair loss, mood swings and difficulty sleeping. Symptoms of Low Testosterone: Reduced sex drive Fatigue Hot flashes Depression Mood swings Weight gain You may already be familiar with the benefits associated with testosterone replacement therapy for men: better libido, more muscle. Not as many people are aware that testosterone replacement therapy can also be a great option for women suffering through the changes of menopause. In Dr. Gordon’s practice, about half of her testosterone replacement patients are women. Testosterone replacement for women. “Women really don’t enjoy the changes of menopause,” shares Gordon. “Testosterone can really reverse those things. Testosterone replacement has really changed how women feel about themselves in their forties, fifties and sixties. They are enjoying sex again and feeling confident.” HORMONE DELIVERY BY PELLET Creams, patches, injections and pellets are all methods commonly used to deliver testosterone into the body. At Restora Austin, Dr. Gordon offers testosterone pellet therapy. The pellets used are slightly larger than a grain of rice. Once a pellet is implanted just below the skin, it begins to slowly and consistently release hormones over a period of several months. Before receiving testosterone pellet therapy, blood work is necessary to determine how low the levels of testosterone in the body are. Pellets are not a one-size-fits all treatment. The amount of testosterone in the pellet is specially formulated based on the results of the lab work.

Bioidentical hormones are most simply described as the hormones that look identical to human hormones. These are plant-derived and can be obtained via a compounding pharmacy or your provider can write you a prescription. 'The key is to not get misled by the widely spread message that compounding is the only way to obtain bioidentical hormones, and become aware that bioidentical hormones can also be available by prescription. Question: What is a normal range for menopause? http://www.womenshealthyhormones.com/ Oftentimes, in my practice, I see women who have these problems with menopause and their physicians have already taken their lab work, so they bring the lab work to me. We look at their estrogen levels or their progesterone levels, or other hormones, testosterone, thyroid, and they're within normal limits. But I'm here to say that really I don’t like to use the term normal limit or like to use that concept because in essence, what it does is it throws every woman in the same basket, saying if you are within this number or that number, then you are normal and that really isn’t the case. So how much hormone a woman needs is going to be unique to her own body - that’s just generics, it's like your own fingerprint. To say that someone is within normal range, it may not be normal for them - they may need a little bit more or a little bit less. I like to work towards optimal. Optimal hormones - that's the level you want, not just the normal level for everybody.

In this Video: Mark Daniells with Dr Robert Cassar demonstrates a Hormone Stimulating tonic that they consume a few times a week, with Ashwagandha and Tribulus Terrestris, with Stevia and Agave Nectar for sweetening. Research Says a human can Reduce Stress response, Enhance brain (neuro) development, boost libido, enhance fertility, support hormones, feel great all with the Ayurvedic herbs mentioned in this video. The increased hormone levels may also bring relief from the common complaints of menopause. Evidence suggests that menopausal women suffer from fewer hot flashes when taking tribulus. Feelings of depression, anxiety and insomnia may also be reduced. There is also some anecdotal evidence that tribulus for women can reduce symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome in pre-menopausal women. What all women (and men) must know about menopause is that some of the most mistreated symptoms of menopause are hormone related mood swings, depression and anxiety. Dr. Laurie Blanscet, a hormone and anti-aging specialist, explains that most traditional practitioners don’t understand the role that hormones play in our moods. Instead of determining if hormones are the root cause for women (and men) presenting with anxiety and depression, most traditional practitioners simply grab the prescription pad for anti-depressants. According to a government study, nearly 1 out of 3 women in their 40s and 50s are taking an antidepressant. Tune in and learn how to take charge of your emotional health after 50! Are hormones the root cause? Dr. Laurie loves to help men and women achieve optimum health through the use of bio-identical hormones, proper nutrition and exercise. 6 Signs of Hormone Havoc in Women 1. Hair Loss According to the American Hair Loss Association, the hormone dihydrotestosterone (or DHT), a by-product of testosterone (a male hormone) can wreak havoc on your hair follicles. In women, hair loss, thinning, loss of texture and fullness are all signs of excess DHT, or androgen hormones in your body. Low progesterone and estrogen will often start with hair loss or thinning at the crown of the head. 2. Low Libido The Mayo Clinic points to lack of sex drive as a prime indicator of hormonal imbalance in women. Oftentimes, decreased libido will start with trouble sleeping (or insomnia), which causes hormone levels to plummet. Women can experience lagging libido due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, just after delivering a baby (while breastfeeding), during the transition into menopause, and with extreme periods of stress and fatigue. 3. Mood WebMD claims that estrogen levels are closely related to mood disruptions—including depression, irritability, anxiety, crying, and roller coaster mood swings—in women. Low estrogen can even result in postpartum depression in new moms. Estrogen specifically impacts the brain emotional center. An estrogen imbalance can modify endorphins (or feel good) brain chemicals. Uneven estrogen levels can also alter serotonin receptors, and even lead to nerve damage. 4. Weight Sudden and unexplained weight loss or gain in women is another predictor of hormonal imbalance. Dr. Lena Edwards, the Director of the Balance Health and Wellness Center in Lexington, Kentucky, says hormones can be responsible for appetite, cravings, metabolism, and weight distribution. For instance, the sudden development of heavy breasts can signify estrogen imbalance-whereas the sudden emergence of a belly bulge can indicate insulin resistance. 5. Sleep Quality A woman’s sleep can be impacted by stress and environment. However, the National Sleep Foundation claims that several other factors—including pregnancy, menopause, and menstruation—can also eat into sleepy time station. Every women experiences a flux of progesterone and estrogen over her life, and even during a single month. For instance, decreased progesterone can cause insomnia while estrogen can cause troubled sleep plagued with sweating and temperature changes. 6. Fatigue Drastic changes in energy levels shouldn’t be brushed off. In fact, research from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, claims that hormones (and thyroid issues) can result in an normally energetic women suddenly being unable to get out of bed. If you suddenly feel totally zapped of energy for no reason, ask your doctor to check your hormone levels. It could be the result of fluctuations in adrenal hormones, progesterone, estrogen, insulin levels, or your thyroid.
