And there are some women who have gotten positive ovulation kit test results during early pregnancy, but haven't gotten the positive pregnancy test result yet, because it's too soon to get that, but the ovulation kit is detecting the presence of the glycoprotein. So you can't use ovulation prediction kit tests as pregnancy tests, or vice versa. If you think you're pregnant, basically the best thing to do is to wait and see if your period starts like it should. If you're period never starts, that day has come when it should have, and it doesn't, then it's time to take a home pregnancy test. If that first result is negative, then wait another 5 to 7 days and retest. It's possible to get false negatives if you take the test too early, and for some women, this is even on the day of their missed period, or in the few days following, because they ovulated later than usual. Most women ovulate about mid-cycle, but some women do ovulate a little bit later, and if this is the case with you, then you might not see a positive pregnancy test until at least 2 weeks from that time, which might be a week or so after your missed period. So again, I recommend taking another test in about 5 to 7 days and seeing what that result says, and if it's positive, congratulations! But if it's negative, keep the appointment set that you have with your OB already, and based on their ability to ask you more specific questions and to perform an exam, they'll decide what's going on, and they'll be able to give you the best advice. Being also an empath, I sense and feel people’s emotions. So I have developed some tools and techniques to stay productive and kick butt even though I'm experiencing less desirable emotions. So how do you continue doing what you need to do without becoming an emotionless robot? Strategy #1: Allow yourself to feel and experience these emotions. The thing is the more you resist these emotions and deny your feelings, the longer they're going to persist and the louder they will get. These emotions want to be heard; I know, this may be very hard or difficult if you are a super achiever (like myself) and do not want to spend any time “feeling”. When we are experiencing less desirable emotions we tend to see them as slowing us down or preventing us from being productive. And you're thinking “I ain't having that because I ain't got time for that!”. I get it, but here's the thing: you don't really have a choice. Again if you're not allowing yourself to experience these emotions, they're just going to stick around and get louder. The key to dissipating those emotions Is allowing yourself to experience them in healthy ways. You can dance it out, you can scream (preferably not at your partner or a loved one), you can punch (not a loved one or an animal please!). Strategy #2: Get out of your head and into your body. How you do that is by closing your eyes, breathing, calm your mind, and tune inward. Next, you pay attention to where in your body you are experiencing these emotions. Is it your stomach? Your chest? Is it your back? Your head? Pay attention to that. Focus on where in your body you are feelings this things. The reason this works is because your emotions are usually associated with a negative thought. When we have a negative thought, it can become a downward spiral. It’s like crawling into that rabbit hole and never getting out. If you just focus on the sensations in your body, you will no longer think in your head. You’re no longer thinking the thoughts that are causing that emotions. So the emotion dissipates! Strategy #3: If all else fails, go take a nap! Honestly, you’re probably crabby because you’re tired. After you take a nap, you’ll feel more energized and you’ll have a clear head. So, you can process the emotions you were experiencing and the thoughts causing those emotions. You’ll also be able to see that situation that you were flipping out about, probably isn’t really that big of a deal. So I’d love to hear what are your favorite emotional regulation strategies? It can take a while for parents to fully identify the needs of their infant. When a parent understands their baby and comforts them during times of distress, it helps the infant feel secure and safe, allowing them to blossom. There are typically seven main cries that a parent will soon identify: The hunger cry One of the most common reasons why babies cry is that they are hungry. Younger babies tend to cry more frequently than older babies because they have tiny tummies and can only take in small amounts of food. Before the hunger cry starts, babies usually display cues that they need to feed. As a parent, you will start to recognize your baby’s hunger signals, for example, moving the head from side to side, looking for something to suck. This is called the rooting reflex, and if you touch the side of your baby’s head, he or she may turn towards your hand, expecting to feed. Update on why I've been MIA. I didn't mention in the video but Im still on the Keto Diet and I haven't had any alcohol since April...i'm on a roll lol. Great questions since cold weather season is the time when eczema is more common! First off, what is eczema? Eczema is a skin disorder that can be associated with asthma or allergies that is characterized by dryness, itching, cracking and sometimes blistering. There is a particular type of eczema that can be blistery and weepy. This usually occurs on the hard surfaces - the elbows, knees, forearms, and also can appear in the folds of the neck, or the back of the knees. Typically, eczema can be uncomfortable because it's so itchy, and it can be unsightly for those wanting to wear short sleeves. Doctor's usually treat eczema is with topical steroids like hydrocortizone. There are some natural ways to not only treat eczema, but to minimize your outbreaks to eczema. The first thing to know is that eczema does get worse during extreme temperatures - both extreme heat and extreme cold. It tends to get worse in extreme cold because that is when the skin gets even drier and in extreme heat, the skin tends to get inflamed. So you mind to be mindful in extreme temperatures and how you treat your skin during those times. The first principle in eliminating or decreasing the outbreaks of eczema is decreasing inflammation because inflammation is the underlying cause of eczema. You want to avoid foods, stress and things that cause inflammation. One of the most inflammatory foods for asthmatics and eczema sufferers is dairy. I know some you out there who just love cheese, so you want to look at how much dairy you are taking in. There are other inflammatory foods like fried and greasy foods, your fast foods, and meats that are not organic. Non-organic meats tend to have preservatives, antibiotics, pesticides and hormones. Red meat and pork are harder to digest, so that stress also affects your eczema. Next, you want to also look at the foods you might be allergic to. It's prudent to have a blood test or a skin test to see if there are particular foods that are causing more inflammation in your body, or that you may be sensitive to or allergic to, like nuts, specific types of beans, spices, or fruits. The third thing you want to think about is gluten and going gluten free. Gluten, in general, actually binds up the gut and doesn't allow for the proper elimination of toxins. Those unrefined flours and gluten-based foods cause inflammation and can worsen your eczema. Some natural ways to treat your eczema. First keep your skin moisturized. Avoid petroleum and oils as they have a drying effect, rather than a healing effect on your skin. An alternative? Coconut oil and it's anti-inflammatory, absorbs well into the skin without leaving a filmy residue. After your shower or bath, pat dry (not scrub dry) then immediately put on the coconut oil all over with a little bit extra on the eczema parts. You can also use avocado oil - it's thicker than the coconut oil but it does have anti-inflammatory properties along with omegas, which is a good nutrient for the skin. Combine both for a great moisturizer! Next, don't turn your water temperature up too high. This will actually irritate the skin more and dry your skin out. Take oatmeal baths because oatmeal is soothing to the skin. What about Aloe Vera? If you're buying it over the counter, many aloe products contain alcohol which will dry out your eczema even more, so I wouldn't recommend aloe vera (even if it's right from the plant) because it still may burn.

But there's also a mental and emotional toll that accompanies chronic illnesses: depression, brain fog, anxiety, PMS, insomnia. It's the mental aspect of chronic illness that we'll be talking about on this episode of Thyroid Thursday. I'm going to share a bit of my journey and some coping mechanisms that I've learned along the way. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and May 12 was fibromyalgia awareness day, so this is a perfect time to have a discussion on it the impact of chronic illness on your mental health. I have been bouncing this topic around in my head for a couple of weeks and I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to approach it. After watching my videos, you already know that I like to keep things encouraging and upbeat as much as possible, and I also don't really like to just rehash what's been said a billion times before. We don't need another "Just be positive and it'll all get better" message, but it's really hard to say "Welcome to Spoonieland! Your hypothyroid ticket just earned you a trip to aches, pain, exhaustion, hair loss and wonky mood swings. There will be a stop at social isolation with a detour of panic attacks and anxiety." That's not really going to have people lining up at the door for that party, isn't it? I thought it would be another "Just try harder and fake it till ya make it" articles but I was relieved that it wasn't. For me, it was the truth I'd wanted to hear. If you're going through depression right now, or if someone you know is going through it, read it! Like I said, I'm going to do a little add on to what's already there. First off, this crying thing. Do it. Just cry... let it out. As part of my being a warning to others, I want to say this: if you don't cry when you need to, you'll regret it. One of my "tells" that the stress is too high or I've been pushing too much is that I start to feel extra weepy at everything. I try to push it off for a more "convenient" time, but then don't. Warning #1: Doing that too often can lead to a major meltdown. Warning #2: Pushing off the meltdown can make things go nuclear. Take it from me, you don't want that to happen. So take the time, grab the tissues and let it out. I also love reading different blogs about a ton of different topics -- from learning to do a vintage hairstyle to health issues with tons of science that appeals to my geek side. I encourage you to do the same with 2 caveats: 1) it's really easy to take a blog and see the best snapshots of a person's life or project or whatnot, and feel very defeated or deflated by it. These are the best photos and the best projects and the best food and oh my goodness I shouldn't even bother because that's perfect and I'm a horrible person. It's a slippery slope so back away if your mood starts to darken. 2) Stay away from the comments! Really! There's nothing worse than reading a great article about how you CAN do something, or "go at your own pace" and then have the first comments to a post be about how people are slackers if they don't give 150%. Or they try to out guru the guru. That is so not helpful and more damaging to your mood. So limit the time you spend on blogs... and Facebook... and Instagram... and any other social media site. You don't need to bring other people's drama into your life when you're working on your own. Lastly I want to reiterate a couple of points from that article. "19) Depression will lie to you. Depression will try to tell you what others are thinking. That you are unloved and unworthy, that others think little of you or don't care -- or even wish you harm. You are not a psychic.
