People with type 2 diabetes may benefit from a higher-protein diet, If they have a particular gene related to vitamin D metabolism. The study of overweight adults with type 2 diabetes found that people lost a similar amount of weight over two years whether they followed a high-protein, low-protein, low-fat or high-fat diet. People with a particular gene variant that boosts blood levels of vitamin D, showed bigger reductions in insulin and improved insulin sensitivity when they ate a higher-protein diet. The present study revealed the gene DHCR7 helps the body to synthesize vitamin D. Most of the study participants had at least one copy of the "T" variant of that gene, which boosts blood levels of vitamin D. Diabetic people responded better to the higher-protein plan if they carry the "T" variant of the gene. People with the "T" variant derive more vitamin D from those foods, versus people without the variant. Higher vitamin D levels, in turn, might improve people's insulin sensitivity. People should eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise. Eating a balanced diet with high-quality proteins, healthy fats and fiber-rich carbs, rather than processed carbs is the most important thing. the "high-protein" diets in this study actually contained moderate amounts One should get around 25% of the calories from protein, but most people don't take that much protein. people should make sure they get the recommended amounts of vitamin D, either from food or a multivitamin. The daily recommendation for vitamin D varies slightly with age. Researchers do hope to one day tailor diet plans to better fit people's genetic profiles. 1. Flaxseeds Flaxseeds are rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Adding 1 to 2 tbsp. of ground flaxseeds to your diet will not only not raise your blood sugar levels but can actually help blunt the blood sugar level's rise normally experienced after eating. The type of fiber in flaxseeds are mainly soluble and have the property of reducing your blood sugar levels as well as your blood cholesterol levels. 2. Cheese Cheese does not contain any carbohydrates, with the exception of cottage cheese and ricotta cheese, which contain small amounts, or about 3 to 4 g per 1/2 cup serving. Cheese is a good source of protein and calcium. Cheese makes a great snack that won't raise your blood sugar levels and is a good way to add extra protein to your breakfast. 3. Olive Oil Olive oil is a good source of heart-friendly monounsaturated fats, which constitute the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet. Olive oil does not contain carbohydrates and will not directly influence your blood sugar levels. Use regular olive oil for cooking your vegetables and protein and select extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling over your salad. 4. Meat, Poultry and Fish A healthy diabetes meal plan should include an adequate source of protein at each of your meals. Lean meat and poultry constitute good low-fat options, while fish, eaten two to three times a week, can provide you with the omega-3 fatty acids your body needs to stay healthy and to prevent cardiovascular diseases. These protein sources are free of carbohydrates if you avoid the ones that are breaded or served in a sweet sauce. 5. Nuts and Nut Butter Nuts contain small amounts of carbohydrates, most of them being fiber, and therefore have a modest effect over your blood sugar levels. Cashews are the starchiest of all nuts and are not the best options with about 9 g of carbohydrates per ounce. Stick to other nuts and limit your serving size to about 1 oz., or 1 to 2 tbsp. in the case of nut butter to avoid affecting your blood sugar levels. Avoid sugar-coated nuts and select natural unsweetened nut butter. 6. Nonstarchy Vegetables Nonstarchy vegetables contain small amounts of carbohydrates, but most of these carbohydrates are fiber, which explains why they have little impact over your diabetes control. A diet rich in nonstarchy vegetables can actually help you better manage your blood sugar levels. Include broccoli, leafy greens, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, bok choy, onions, mushrooms or asparagus at most of your meals to boost your fiber and antioxidant intake without compromising your blood sugars.

Go here: http://www.amazon.com/How-Lower-Blood-Sugar-Fast/dp/1507654464 Although further medical research is needed, the health benefits of drinking whey protein shakes as supplementary nutrition to a diabetic's limited diet seem to be effective, according to a recent study from researchers and scientists at Sweden's Lund University and Denmark's University of Copenhagen. But, what type of diabetes does drinking protein smoothies help and how does a diabetic invest into this nutrition supplement? You'll find the answers to these questions through the following discussion. The Effects of Whey Protein on Type I and Type II Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes consists of a set of symptoms that point to low levels down to an absence of insulin in the blood or to the body's inability to produce insulin to break down glucose and turn it into energy. As a result, individuals with this type of diabetes must inject themselves with insulin everyday to help their bodies function well. With several scientific studies revealing the positive effects of hydrolyzed whey on Type 2 Diabetes (the non-insulin dependent kind), is it also possible to increase glucose response among insulin-dependent diabetics after drinking beverages mixed with these nutrition supplements? When the individual has been practicing a very strict diet and getting regular exercise, a scoop of whey powder may help. According to studies made on type 2 diabetics, around 5 to 10 mg is needed to spike up insulin production in the pancreas. For some people, this recommendation may reach up to 20 mg of whey protein in meal replacement beverages or as low as 2 mg in soups. Pairing these high-protein shakes with meals that have a high glycemic index should result to a higher glucose response as the body tries to degrade the presence of protein and glucose in the system. However, to make sure that intake of this highly concentrated protein source doesn't cause problems with your health, better consult your doctor and discuss the recommended dosage for your medical condition. Whey Protein and Losing Weight for Diabetics Diabetics with issues of obesity may want to use whey protein shakes as a way to control their appetites, which lead to lower glucose levels and better management of sugar in their blood. Because of the overall feeling of satiety after drinking, whey protein shakes also make effective meal replacements to help people lose weight. But for diabetics, substituting these shakes for a healthy meal isn't recommended. Therefore, mixing these nutrition supplements into one's food or beverage is the best possible option.. whey Protein and Diabetes https://youtu.be/zwCFFY7QZSI http://www.amazon.com/How-Lower-Blood-Sugar-Fast/dp/1507654464

Take Dr. Berg's Body Type Quiz: http://bit.ly/BodyTypeQuiz Dr. Eric Berg talks about Sugar and diabetes. Sugar increases insulin which lowers the sugar in the blood and puts it in storage as fat. A healthy diet should consist of fats and moderate amount of proteins. A diabetic diet should have high quantities of fat. Sugar stimulates hunger and you carve for more food. 40 % of all heart diseases are related to excess sugar. Keeping your blood sugar levels in control is a primary objective for a healthy body. The current recommendations for carbohydrates based on the American Diabetes Associations is 45-60 grams of carbohydrates PER MEAL!!!!! not per day, per meal. http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitn... blood sugar problems can be improved if the right foods are eaten, but overall sugars and carbs must be reduced. Fats can be increased. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 50 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional and natural methods. Learn about how it works! http://www.thomasdelauer.com How does whey protein affect insulin and fat loss? Isn't whey a protein, not a carb?? Effect of Whey Protein on Insulin Whey is one of the two main proteins in milk - the other is casein. Whey, like all proteins, is made up of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. When we consume protein, we then break down these amino acids and use them for muscle growth and tissue repair. Whey contains all three BCAAs along with all of the essential amino acids. Whey is highly insulinogenic - consuming whey leads to a sharp increase in insulin levels. This response does not have to do with blood sugar levels - when a food has a high glycemic index, consuming it will cause a large increase in blood sugar levels. In response to this, the body produces insulin to combat the high blood sugar and allow glucose to enter our cells for energy. This is not what is happening when we consume whey - insulin release is responding to amino acids, not glucose levels. Insulin binds to cells to allow them to take up energy, which can be glucose or amino acids from proteins. The amino acids in whey cause an insulin release. Whey also leads to the release of GIP and GLP-1, two gastrointestinal hormones that also raise insulin levels. This increase in insulin is actually a good thing! Whey is a fast acting protein, and the spike in insulin allows amino acids into the muscle cells to encourage repair, helping us to gain muscle and heal quickly. Consuming whey protein has actually been shown to lower blood glucose levels when consumed during or directly before a meal. A 2005 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when whey was combined in a high-sugar meal, individuals with type-2 diabetes had a lower blood glucose level following the meal than if no whey was consumed. This is thought to be because the increased insulin aided the body in glucose digestion. Generally, the better the whey, the higher the insulin spike and thus the more effective at delivering building blocks into the cells for the purpose or repair and growth. Best to consume whey directly following exercise. It is quickly broken down and made available to muscle cells for repair post workout. Whey protein isolate contains 90% protein and thus has less lactose, fat and cholesterol than whey protein concentrate. To get the most out of your protein, go for the whey protein isolate. You will experience less bloating and get more of the benefits - lean, ripped muscles. Too much protein is dangerous, so be sure not to consume excess protein. Excess protein can lead to increased fat storage and calcium loss, which can lead to osteoporosis. References: 1. There's nothing wrong with consuming sugar or carbs. The healthiest foods in the world, such as fruits, vegetables, including starchy vegetables and whole grains, contain sugar and carbohydrates. If you limit your carbohydrate intake you are depriving your cells, which run on glucose. Your body can get its calories from carbohydrates, fat or protein. If you go on a low carb diet, you will need to get your calories from either fat or protein. A high fat diet is not a healthy option, because it decreases insulin sensitivity and causes the diabetes in the first place, and a high protein diet will decrease your longevity and health. So that leaves us with one option for optimum health, and that is a high carb (80-90%), low fat (5-10%), low protein (5-10%) diet. So eat as much as you want of fruit, starchy vegetables and whole grains. You don't have to count calories; just keep the vegetable oils low and cut out the animal products. Dr Neal Barnard is the world's best at reversing the disease and has conducted his own randomised controlled trials. For example, in this study, the group that had no restriction on calories, but ate as much as they wanted of high carb low fat vegan food, reversed their diabetes even more than those on the calorie restricted American Diabetes Association diet: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/artic... For those who can handle a few more carbs than the rest of us, Weetabix, Oatibix and Shredded Wheat can make for good choices 7days 7 Breakfasts for Diabetics Skipping breakfast may be associated with a significantly increased risk of type 2 diabetes. If you have type 2 diabetes, breakfast is a must, and it can have real benefits. “The body really needs the nutrients that breakfast provides to literally ‘break the fast’ that results during sleeping hours. Eating foods at breakfast that have a low glycemic index may help prevent a spike in blood sugar all morning long and even after lunch. 1. Eggs: Hard-boiled eggs are a great on-the-go option. To save you time in the morning, make a batch early in the week. All you’ll have to do in the morning is grab one on your way out the door. Though people with diabetes are at a higher risk of heart disease, research has shown that eating six or fewer eggs a week doesn’t significantly impact cholesterol. Buying anti-inflammatory omega-3-rich eggs is even better. 2. Oatmeal: Unsweetened oatmeal is another great breakfast staple. Studies also suggest that it may help decrease insulin resistance in some individuals. Add nuts or seeds, a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt, or berries to incorporate some additional food groups. These toppings also increase the fiber and protein, all of which help provide a more subtle increase in blood sugar rather than a spike. For easy preparation, use a rice cooker to make enough for several days, then portion out into single-serving containers. 3.Yogurt: Unsweetened low-fat or nonfat plain Greek yogurt mixed with fruit is another good way to get the morning going. Greek yogurt has more protein and fewer carbs than traditional yogurt. It’s a great option for people with diabetes. Consider buying single-serving yogurts to help control your portions. If fresh produce isn’t practical for your lifestyle, stock your freezer with frozen fruit. Just be sure to choose products with no added sugar, and skip the fruit juice. 4. Whole-Grain Cereal: Hot or cold, the right cereal makes a great breakfast. Enjoy a bowl of high-fiber, low-sugar cereal with skim milk, or heat up plain oatmeal. “When it comes to whole grain cereal, you can't beat a bowl of steel-cut oats,” says Kennedy. “They're packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals and make a great base for a healthy and diabetes-friendly breakfast." Just remember that a little goes along way: A half cup equals one serving and about 15 grams of carbs. And watch what you add to it. Limit the butter and sugar — instead, top with fresh fruit, skim milk. 5.Breakfast Burrito: This filling and easy meal can be eaten on the go when wrapped in foil. Using a nonstick skillet and cooking spray, scramble an egg with onions and green peppers or spinach. Place in a warmed whole-wheat tortilla, sprinkle with nonfat cheddar cheese, add some salsa, and you have a healthy breakfast to keep you going until lunch. 6. Almonds and Fruit For a breakfast you can eat on the run, grab a hearty handful of whole, raw almonds and a small serving of low glycemic-index fruit, such as berries, a peach, an apple, or an orange. The fiber and healthy monounsaturated fats in the nuts will help you feel full, and the fruit adds additional fiber and a touch of sweetness to your morning without causing a blood-sugar spike. 7. Breakfast Shake For a meal in a minute, blend one cup of fat-free milk or plain nonfat yogurt with one-half cup of fruit, such as strawberries, bananas, or blueberries. Add one teaspoon of wheat germ, a teaspoon of nuts, and ice and blend for a tasty, filling, and healthy breakfast. At 2:53, I should have said "insulin", not "sugar". Sorry. High insulin is diabetes. This can occur even with normal blood sugars forced down with medications. The ketogenic diet lowers insulin. 😀. It is still necessary to have proper insulin digestion. Protein provides the healthy spike of insulin when you consume it twice a day (no more than three times a day, though). Please like, share and subscribe to my YouTube page to get notifications whenever I post a new video! You have already taken the first step to better your health by watching my video! Next, I recommend that you join our Long Distance Patient Program so that you can get diet modification and supplement recommendations designed specifically for you by me or one of my fellow practitioners in our Ann Arbor, Michigan office. You have to be a patient of our office in order to receive supplements, per our distribution agreement with the producer of the Standard Process brand supplements. Becoming a Long Distance Patient as outlined below allows you that access. In order to be part of our online patient program, you would purchase an annual membership for $200. This membership includes an initial 30 minute phone appointment with me or one of our practitioners. At that time, the practitioner will make a recommendation to you for diet modifications, supplements and the quantities that you should take. After the phone call, you are able to order supplements for a year, as needed, directly from our website and our app. We will then promptly ship the supplements out to you. Follow up phone calls with your practitioner are $125 for a 20 minute phone/SKYPE appointment. If you would like to move forward and take advantage of this opportunity, please call: (734) 302-7575 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your phone appointment, and make the $200 payment. You can reach us by phone Monday through Saturday 9am-5pm EST. To learn more about our office and clinical practice, go to: http://thenutritionalhealingcenter.com Since not everyone is fortunate enough to live within driving distance of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and many feel that an telephone/online consultation is not enough to meet their clinical needs, I am happy to offer you our Long Distance Patient Travel Package. The package is comprised of a series of appointments with myself or another practitioner that are time sensitive, and a time allowance of 48-72 hours in our beautiful city is required. Not only are your health issues of concern thoroughly evaluated, but you receive a comprehensive full body evaluation, two different computerized cardiac health tests, a great deal of teaching and health education, and leave with a program of diet modification and supplement support that the practitioner is confident will improve your health and quality of life. This program can initiate your relationship with our clinic, and be followed up with telephone/online consultations, or it can be incorporated into your already existing program with our clinic to further enhance the program you already have in place. The cost for the Long Distance Travel Package is $560 and includes everything mentioned above. We also have a relationship with a lovely landmark hotel conveniently located less than 2 miles from our office, that offers a reduced nightly rate to our patients. In this video I take a look at which foods raise insulin the most. The answer may surprise you. High protein diet promoters recommend eating very low to no carbohydrates because they believe if you don’t consume any form of carbs you will not produce as much insulin. They state that protein causes little or no increase in production of insulin. But this may not actually be true? Keep listening to find out more........ What is prediabetes? Prediabetes is a condition, that if not treated, often leads to type 2 diabetes within 5 years. In fact, 1 in 4 people with diabetes, don't even know they have it yet. There are a lot of factors causing type 2 diabetes, but the most important ones are genetics and lifestyle. Particularly poor lifestyle choices with eating too much of the wrong foods and not moving your body enough can cause insulin resistance, which simply means your body doesn't process insulin the way it should. Even though your body produces insulin to move sugar to your cells, the cells are resistant to the insulin. Insulin resistance often leads to type 2 diabetes. 5 Diet And Exercise Tips For Type 2 Diabetes: 1. Include more foods high in protein with every meal and snack. Foods high in protein also help keep you satiated and feeling full longer. Type 2 diabetes diet tip: consume more foods high in protein to balance your blood sugar and improve insulin resistance. 2. Drink more water Water can help keep you feeling full. Next time you think you feel hungry, drink a big glass of water. You'll be surprised that a lot of times you're just dehydrated, not actually hungry. Type 2 diabetes diet tip: before you eat any meal, drink a big glass of water to help reduce your hunger and appetite. 3. Consume more essential fat Essential fats are super important because they are involved in pretty much every process and cell in the human body. Omega 3's, with the highest quality EPA and DHA, are primarily found in wild fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies, as well as in a fish oil supplement. Type 2 diabetes diet tip: every time you eat at a nice restaurant, order salmon. Also, supplement with fish oil. 4. Exercise more with a focus on resistance training Exercise is the main way to burn excess calories and grow more muscle tissue to help increase your resting metabolic rate (RMR). This means people with more lean muscle tissue will actually burn more calories than obese people, even when the body is not moving. Type 2 diabetes exercise tip: Follow a workout program that focuses the majority of your workouts on resistance training with weights to help improve insulin sensitivity. 5. Control Your Insulin Hormone The problem with insulin occurs when there is too much insulin present in the body at one time. This happens when people have a diet high in sugar, which eventually causes insulin resistance, and potentially diabetes. High glycemic foods comprised of refined sugar and flour are the main offenders in releasing large amounts of insulin. Type 2 diabetes diet and exercise tip: keep your insulin balanced by focusing on lifting weights in the gym and eating primarily paleo approved foods such as plants and animals. Bottom line Use these 5 diet and exercise tips for type 2 diabetes to help reverse type 2 diabetes naturally. Transcript: Kidney Diabetes Diet Tips If you have kidney disease, you may already know that diabetes is a common cause as well as an aggravating factor for people who already have kidney problems. However, it’s important to note that not everyone with diabetes will develop kidney disease. If you want to avoid kidney disease or at least greatly decrease your chances of getting it, you should have a healthy diabetic renal diet plan (renal is a word used by doctors for anything related to the kidneys). Here are the basics of such a plan. To start with, you need to keep your blood glucose levels balanced as much as possible. When your blood sugar reaches dangerous levels, it has the potential to harm your kidneys, and if this happens repeatedly, you can have permanent damage to the kidneys and develop kidney disease. To look at how diabetes affects the kidneys, you need to understand how the kidneys work. When you don’t maintain the proper blood glucose levels, the kidneys may try to work overtime to eliminate blocked proteins and other waste products from the body. When this happens, the kidneys can filter too much blood and will begin to leak. When there is a leak through the kidneys, waste products will begin to build up in the blood, causing severe problems. This leads to kidney disease. There are actually many different things that can trigger kidney disease but diabetes causes the kidneys to overwork trying to filter out the excess starch and sugars in the blood. When you maintain healthy glucose levels, your kidneys can function properly, as they are supposed to and will not become overworked. Just like any other organ in the body, if the kidneys become strained, they can shut down. When this advanced stage of kidney disease occurs, it may be necessary to have dialysis or even a kidney transplant. The problem with kidney disease for a diabetic person is that a transplant is not always an option, due to other medical concerns. The best way to avoid kidney disease is to learn as much as you can about how the kidneys work. When you have a clear understanding of kidney function, you can help keep your kidneys as healthy as possible, even with diabetes. Dangers of high protein foods It’s very important that you work with your doctor or a registered dietitian on a kidney-friendly program. They'll probably suggest that you limit your protein intake, balancing phosphorus, potassium, and calcium. Large amounts of protein place extra stress on the kidneys because they excrete waste products derived from protein. Someone with kidney problems or diabetes should restrict the amount and type of protein they eat. Protein in your diet should come from sources that are easily assimilated into body tissue. Generally speaking, food that comes from animals--beef, fowl, fish, and dairy products--have high protein content. But some grains and vegetables do too. It's also extremely important that you regularly monitor your blood glucose levels. Don’t just guess based on how you feel but actually test yourself on a regular basis to ensure your sugar levels stay where they belong. Another step to avoiding kidney disease is to maintain a healthy weight. If you’re overweight or obese, it greatly increases your chances of getting kidney disease, especially if you’re a diabetic.

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many serious long-term complications include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes. What you eat can help you to control and fight your diabetes. Research proves that making a few key changes to your diet such as eating more produce, fewer refined carbohydrates, plenty of lean protein can help in improving your blood-sugar and cuts the risk of diabetes-related complications. Certain foods are packed with nutrients that stabilise blood sugar levels, protect your heart, and even save your vision from the damaging effects of diabetes. These top 10 foods can help you in controlling Diabetes. Spinach The American Diabetes Association calls spinach a diabetes super food and recommends that you regularly include this dark green leafy non-starchy vegetable in your diet. Besides being rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, spinach possesses a low glycemic index, which means eating it will help support healthy and stable blood glucose levels. Spinach is low in carbohydrates, containing only 0.83 grams per cup. The fact that spinach contains so few carbohydrates makes it an excellent choice on a diabetes diet. Broccoli Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which triggers several anti-inflammatory processes that improve blood sugar control and protect blood vessels from the cardiovascular damage that’s often a consequence of diabetes. Olive oil Olive oil is recognized as one of the healthiest edible oils since it contains less saturated fats. It is rich in Omega 9 and Omega 3 which help maintain the flexibility of blood vessels, allowing good blood flow. Olive oil, especially extra virgin, contains tyrosol phenolic compounds such as oleuropein and oleocanthal. These compounds are nature’s most powerful anti-oxidants. Sweet potatoes Sweet potatoes are a good carbohydrate choice for diabetics. The glycemic index of sweet potatoes is a lot lower, which is better for diabetes control, according to a 2002 article in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Eating sweet potatoes in moderate amounts will help you keep your blood sugar levels in the healthy range even if you have diabetes. Avocados Avocados are an excellent choice for people with diabetes because they are very rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals and packed with numerous health benefiting plant nutrients. Blueberries Blueberries contain both insoluble fiber (which “flushes” fat out of your system) and soluble fiber (which slows down the emptying of your stomach, and improves blood sugar control). It also contain a natural plant compound known as anthocyanins. Scientists believe these may help lower blood sugar by boosting insulin production. Tomatoes Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, chromium, and vitamin B1. Because of their low carbohydrate content, tomatoes can play a big role in controlling blood sugar levels. The low carbohydrate content also helps lower calorie intake and can help diabetics to lose weight. Eggs Eggs are a versatile food and a great source of protein, and the American Diabetes Association considers eggs an excellent choice for people with diabetes. Cinnamon Cinnamon spice has the highest anti-oxidant strength of all the food sources in nature. Many studies show that consumption of one teaspoon cinnamon to three teaspoons a day has a positive effect on reducing blood glucose levels. It was found that the cinnamon can make your cells more sensitive to insulin. Dates Dates are a great choice for a person with diabetes as they can help control sugar cravings, and they are low on the glycemic index. The carbohydrates in dates provide instant energy, and the high fiber contained in dates is good for digestion. This sweet desert fruit is cholesterol and fat free therefore, they serve as a great snack item. Many essential disease protective minerals are also present in dates.

Mastering Blood Sugar Podcast https://drmowll.com/01 Subscribe on iTunes at http://bit.ly/mbspodcast For the FULL TRANSCRIPT, go to https://drmowll.com/transcripts Dr. Ron Rosedale explains how to completely reverse type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases of aging by controlling insulin, leptin, and mTOR In this interview, Dr. Rosedale gives us a better understanding of the hormonal control of blood sugar and metabolism. He explains mTOR and how it relates to aging, cancer, and diabetes. He also teaches how to become better fat-burners and why he would rather have a patient with diabetes than a common cold, as well as his methods to reverse type 2 diabetes. He explains what the ACCORD trial taught us about aggressive diabetes treatment with medications. Dr. Rosedale also explains how we can optimize our genes for optimal health; why a ‘ketogenic’ diet is a terrible name for the low-carb, high-fat diet, and why we shouldn’t chase ketones; and his optimal diet for someone with diabetes or blood sugar problems. To watch or listen to more Mastering Blood Sugar Podcasts, visit https://drmowll.com/podcast Key Takeaways: [:58] Introduction to Dr. Mowll’s guest today, Dr. Rosedale. [3:08] If you enjoyed this episode, subscribe and leave a review on iTunes. Dr. Mowll will be reading his favorite reviews in upcoming episodes! [5:15] One of Dr. Rosedale’s first diabetic patients and debunking the high carb diet. You don’t need carbohydrates in your diet as they’re not essential nutrients; they just turn to sugar in your body. You need protein but you need to find the balance as too much protein turns to sugar also. [7:42] The demonization of ‘fat’ and why we need healthy fats in our diets — not carbs. Dr. Rosedale busts the myth that fat causes insulin resistance and explains why we need fat in our diets — not sugar. [15:14] How to optimize a high-fat diet and reverse the chronic diseases of aging — including type 2 diabetes. [18:45] Dr. Rosedale’s thoughts on the results from the accord study (where aggressive drug treatment was used to treat type 2 diabetes — revealing negative results to the point where the study was cut short.) [24:50] What drives the mTOR pathway that increases the rate of aging? [31:10] How our lifestyle and the things we eat greatly affect our lifespan, and how you can avoid getting diabetes even if you have a genetic predisposition to it. [34:10] What is the ideal diet for someone with diabetes? Dr. Rosedale’s perspective on a high-fat diet (that he highly recommends) and the ketogenic diet; the newest, popular diet. [39:38] About the damage that high amounts of insulin can cause. [42:20] High protein in the diet is the most influential stimulator of mTOR. Dr. Rosedale’s thoughts on how much protein people should have in their diet — and how much is too much? And why ‘ketogenic’ is a bad name for the now-trendy, high-fat diet. [47:05] If Dr. Rosedale could be remembered for one idea or message, professionally, what would he want that to be? [47:57] If Dr. Rosedale had a good friend who was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and he had 2 minutes to give them advice, what would it be? [50:10] Dr. Rosedale’s warning for those who want to pursue a high fat, low carb diet. [55:44] If Dr. Rosedale was sitting around with the leaders of the world to solve the diabetes epidemic, what would be his advice? [59:34] Where to find Dr. Rosedale online! Hi Friends, Watch ► 10 Worst FOOD FOR DIABETES: https://goo.gl/UnZvu8 What foods should diabetics avoid? What food can diabetics eat? What can diabetics eat list? What is the best diet for diabetics? Eating with diabetes doesn't have to mean deprivation, starvation, or bland and boring foods. However, some foods really are best but it is Important to find the best, eating the wrong foods can raise your blood sugar and insulin levels and promote inflammation, which may increase your risk of disease. These top food offenders contain high amounts of fat, sodium, carbs, and calories that may increase your risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, uncontrolled blood sugar, and weight gain. 1. Rice White bread, rice and pasta are high-carb, processed foods. Eating bread, bagels and other refined-flour foods has been shown to significantly increase blood sugar levels in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Another study found that a meal containing a high-carb bagel not only raised blood sugar but also decreased brain function in people with type 2 diabetes and mental deficits. 2. Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Sugary beverages are the worst drink choice for someone with diabetes. Sodas and sweet drinks are high in carbs, which increase blood sugar. Also, their high fructose content has been linked to insulin resistance and an increased risk of obesity, fatty liver and other diseases. To help control blood sugar levels and prevent disease risk, consume water, club soda or unsweetened iced tea instead of sugary beverages. 3. Sweetened Breakfast Cereals: Eating cereal is one of the worst ways to start your day if you have diabetes. Even "healthy" breakfast cereals aren't good choices for those with diabetes. Breakfast cereals are high in carbs but low in protein. A high-protein, low-carb breakfast is the best option for diabetes and appetite control. 4. Full-Fat Dairy: The saturated fats in dairy products can raise your LDL cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease. But saturated fats may cause yet another serious problem for people with diabetes — research has found that eating a diet high in saturated fat may worsen insulin resistance. 5. Fatty Cuts of Meat They’re high in saturated fats. Saturated fats in meat raise cholesterol and promote inflammation throughout the body, and can also put people with diabetes at even greater risk for heart disease than the average person 6. Fried Foods Fried foods typically soak up tons of oil, which equates to lots of extra calories — and many are coated in breading first, jacking up the numbers even more. Overdoing the greasy stuff can pack on the pounds and cause blood-sugar chaos. 7. Alcohol: Before you go for a predinner cocktail or wine first check with your doctor to make sure that it’s safe for your condition to drink alcohol, since it can interfere with your blood-sugar levels. If you do drink, keep it in moderation. 8. Dried Fruit Fruit is a great source of several important vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and potassium. When fruit is dried, the process results in a loss of water that leads to even higher concentrations of these nutrients. Dried fruits become more concentrated in sugar and may contain more than three times as many carbs as fresh fruits do. Avoid dried fruit and choose fruits low in sugar for optimal blood sugar control. 9. Fruit Juice Although fruit juice is often considered a healthy beverage, its effects on blood sugar are actually similar to those of sodas and other sugary drinks. Unsweetened fruit juice contains at least as much sugar as sodas do. Its high fructose content can worsen insulin resistance, promote weight gain and increase the risk of heart disease. 10. Flavored Coffee Drinks: Flavored coffee drinks should be viewed as a liquid dessert, rather than a healthy beverage. Flavored coffee drinks are very high in liquid carbs, which can raise blood sugar levels and fail to satisfy your hunger. To keep your blood sugar under control and prevent weight gain, choose plain coffee Follow us On Facebook: https://goo.gl/L2p5KT Twitter: https://goo.gl/LSiwaO Google + : https://goo.gl/R4UnR7 Blogger: https://goo.gl/DN6GtF Wordpress: https://goo.gl/F9yejA ================================= Thank you for watching Our videos For more –like-comment-share & subscribe ================================= DISCLAIMER: The information provided on this channel and its videos is for general purposes only and should not be considered as professional advice.
