This point is situated in the webbing between the forefinger and the thumb… right in the middle as you see here. It calms and balances blood flow throughout the body and clears stagnation. Begin by moving your thumb in a small circular rubbing motion over LI 4 for a few seconds. Then you can apply gentle to moderate thumb pressure depending on how sensitive the area feels. This point can be stimulated by applying firm pressure to the point using your index finger or thumb. Again, apply pressure for about 20-30 seconds, then take a break and repeat as needed. G20 The G20 is below the base of your skull, in the hollows on both sides of the neck, between the two vertical neck muscles. Putting pressure here lowers your blood pressure, reduces headaches and stress by relaxing your nervous system. Use your thumbs, fingers, or knuckles to gradually apply pressure into the hollows of your skull. Close your eyes as you tilt your head back slowly. Take long, slow deep breaths as you hold for two to three minutes. Direct the pressure slowly and firmly into the center of your head. Other Acupressure Points Now, there are lots of other acupressure points -- on your feet, arms, legs, and so forth. Alcohol - How Alcohol Affects The Body - What Causes A Hangover

In this video I discuss how alcohol affects the body, and some of the side effects of alcohol in the human body. I go through the path of alcohol in the body, the damage from alcohol, and what causes a hangover. I also discuss how drinking alcohol over time can harm your body, such as by causing a fatty liver. Transcript (partial) We are going to take a little trip of what happens to alcohol in the body. Once it is consumed alcohol goes down the normal food path of digestion. From the mouth through the esophagus and into the stomach. Here, about 20% of alcohol is absorbed through the stomach lining into the bloodstream, which means it is getting into the bloodstream very quickly. From the stomach, the alcohol that was not absorbed in the stomach next travels to the small intestine. One note here, if there is no food in the stomach, so an empty stomach, or if the alcohol is not consumed with any food, it gets to the small intestine very quickly. In the small intestine, the rest of the alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream and travels to the liver. So, in the liver, an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase, which is also present in the lining of the stomach, which we will call ADH, oxidizes the alcohol, or ethanol molecule. In basic terms this means that the enzyme comes in and changes the chemical structure of ethanol, so, ethanol becomes acetaldehyde. This substance is known to be toxic and carcinogenic, or poisonous and cancer causing. This acetaldehyde is then metabolized down to a substance called acetic acid, which is less harmful to the body. Acetic acid can then be broken down into carbon dioxide and water. When alcohol is present, the liver will work on metabolizing it first. So, fatty acids can accumulate, which is why so many heavy drinkers develop fatty livers. It is estimated that the liver can eliminate about 0.5oz of alcohol per hour, which is about 1 beer, or 1 glass of wine, or 1 shot. The heart then pumps the alcohol rich blood to the lungs. Some of the alcohol in the lungs is breathed out every time you exhale causing your breath to smell of liquor. The lungs send the alcohol containing blood back to the heart where it is pumped to all parts of the body, including the brain. Once alcohol enters the brain, it slows down nerve cells that control your ability to move and think. So, judgment becomes impaired and movement becomes disrupted. Some people will begin to sweat and most will smell like alcohol. Alcohol also decreases the body’s production of anti-diuretic hormone. Antidiuretic hormone helps your kidneys manage the amount of water in your body. The decrease of this hormone causes the kidneys to not reabsorb water; instead it is excreted as urine, causing the body to become dehydrated. If alcohol consumption continues, it could lead to loss of consciousness. And massive alcohol consumption or binge drinking could lead to alcohol poisoning. This happens when there is a high concentration of alcohol in the bloodstream and this could result in coma, respiratory depression or possibly death. Now let’s look at the aftereffects of alcohol over consumption…the dreaded hangover. The exact causes of a hangover are not completely understood, but there are several factors that may contribute to it. The chemical acetaldehyde is formed from ethanol, it is believed that this chemical is what causes the headaches associated with hangovers. The increase in urination leading to dehydration, which could cause the thirst, dry mouth and dizziness. Some immune cells produce substances called cytokines, which can contribute to nausea and. Some alcoholic beverages increase the release of gastric acid in the stomach, and delay the emptying of the contents in the stomach, which could be the reason for stomach pain associated with hangovers. Alcohol can also interfere with the livers production of glucose, the main form of energy for cells, which could contribute to dizziness, disorientation and lack of energy. The long term effects of alcohol over consumption include anemia, which is a low amount of oxygen carrying red blood cells. It can lead to cell death in the liver cells and brain cells, leading to these organs not functioning properly. The risk of heart failure increases; as does the risk of stomach and intestinal problems, and many heavy drinkers have high blood pressure. Over consumption of alcohol can also lead to relationship problems, depression, and employment problems. And these are just a few of the long term problems associated with constant over consumption of alcohol. It is always about moderation. Limiting yourself to 1 or 2 drinks from time to time is probably a good strategy. As you can see, over consumption of alcohol has a lot of negative effects on your body, and consistent over consumption of alcohol has catastrophic effects on your body.

As a result, your vision becomes blurry. If sugar levels stay high for a long period of time, this can cause permanent damage and can even lead to eyesight loss. 8. Headaches – A headache can develop due to elevated blood sugar levels and is considered an early sign of hyperglycemia (high blood glucose). 9. Skin changes: Velvety dark skin, known as achantosis nigricans, can appear on the neck, groin and armpit. You can also observe other unusual skin changes and itchiness, especially around the vaginal or groin area. 10. Infections, cuts and bruises that do not heal:This classic sign of diabetes is a consequence of blood vessel damage. Excessive amounts of sugar harm the veins and arteries, so they become less able to transport blood to where it is needed to repair and heal the damage. 11. Yeast infections: Since bacteria and fungi thrive in a sugary environment, infections can become more common. 12. Numbness and tingling in hands and feet: This symptom is a result of nerve damage – neuropathy – that is connected with diabetes. This is the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish A new study suggests that dental X-rays may increase the risk of the most common kind of brain tumor. However, experts say the risk of these mostly non-cancerous growths is still very small. The study compared about fourteen hundred patients with a brain tumor called a meningioma to a group without brain tumors. Dr. Elizabeth Claus of Yale University led the study. She says it found that those with the tumors were about twice as likely to report having had a common kind of X-ray, called a bitewing. The link was greater with a kind of imaging called a panoramic X-ray. There was up to five times the risk, depending on age or how often the X-rays were taken.Dr. Claus points out that in this study, the people were generally in their fifties or older. They were asked to remember X-rays they might have had many years earlier. So there is a chance they might have under-reported or over-reported how many dental X-rays they had. Dr. Claus says she does not want to scare people away from dental visits. In her words: "The big take-home message is, keep going to the dentist. But have a conversation with your dentist about whether you might be able to reduce the number of X-rays that you receive." Her research paper appears in the American Cancer Society's journal, Cancer.During dental procedures, and even when people brush their teeth, mouth bacteria often enter the blood system. A popular belief is that gum disease can lead to heart attacks. But the American Heart Association recently published a statement saying there is no scientific proof. The statement, appearing in its journal Circulation, says gum disease has not been proven to cause heart disease or stroke. And, it says, treating gum disease has not been proven to prevent them. There is also not enough evidence to know whether brushing and flossing regularly can prevent heart disease.A committee of heart doctors, dentists and infectious disease specialists considered five hundred journal articles and studies. They say there is not enough evidence at this time to confirm a cause-and-effect relationship between gum disease and heart disease. Both diseases are often found in the same patient. But the experts say this is possibly because of risk factors common to both diseases. People who do not pay attention to risk factors like smoking, diabetes or high blood pressure may not pay close attention to their oral health either. For VOA Special English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. High blood pressure dangers: Hypertension's effects on your body High blood pressure is a risk factor for more than heart disease. Discover what complications high blood pressure can cause. High blood pressure (hypertension) can quietly damage your body for years before symptoms develop. Left uncontrolled, you may wind up with a disability, a poor quality of life or even a fatal heart attack. Fortunately, with treatment and lifestyle changes, you can control your high blood pressure to reduce your risk of life-threatening complications. Here's a look at the complications high blood pressure can cause when it's not effectively controlled. Damage to your arteries Healthy arteries are flexible, strong and elastic. Their inner lining is smooth so that blood flows freely, supplying vital organs and tissues with adequate nutrients and oxygen. If you have high blood pressure, the increased pressure of blood flowing through your arteries gradually can cause a variety of problems, including: Artery damage and narrowing. High blood pressure can damage the cells of your arteries' inner lining. That launches a cascade of events that make artery walls thick and stiff, a disease called arteriosclerosis (ahr-teer-e-o-skluh-ROE-sis), or hardening of the arteries. Fats from your diet enter your bloodstream, pass through the damaged cells and collect to start atherosclerosis (ath-ur-o-skluh-ROE-sis). These changes can affect arteries throughout your body, blocking blood flow to your heart, kidneys, brain, arms and legs. The damage can cause many problems, including chest pain (angina), heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, blocked arteries in your legs or arms (peripheral artery disease), eye damage, and aneurysms. Aneurysm. Over time, the constant pressure of blood moving through a weakened artery can cause a section of its wall to enlarge and form a bulge (aneurysm). Aneurysms can form in any artery throughout your body, but they're most common in the aorta, your body's largest artery. Damage to your heart Your heart pumps blood to your entire body. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can damage your heart in a number of ways, such as: Coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease affects the arteries that supply blood to your heart muscle. Arteries narrowed by coronary artery disease don't allow blood to flow freely through your arteries. When blood can't flow freely to your heart, you can experience chest pain, a heart attack or irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias). Enlarged left heart. High blood pressure forces your heart to work harder than necessary in order to pump blood to the rest of your body. This causes the left ventricle to thicken or stiffen (left ventricular hypertrophy). These changes limit the ventricle's ability to pump blood to your body. This condition increases your risk of heart attack, heart failure and sudden cardiac death. Heart failure. Over time, the strain on your heart caused by high blood pressure can cause your heart muscle to weaken and work less efficiently. Eventually, your overwhelmed heart simply begins to wear out and fail. Damage from heart attacks adds to this problem. Damage to your brain Just like your heart, your brain depends on a nourishing blood supply to work properly and survive. But high blood pressure can cause several problems, including: Transient ischemic attack (TIA). Sometimes called a ministroke, a transient ischemic (is-KEE-mik) attack is a brief, temporary disruption of blood supply to your brain. It's often caused by atherosclerosis or a blood clot — both of which can arise from high blood pressure. A transient ischemic attack is often a warning that you're at risk of a full-blown stroke. Stroke. A stroke occurs when part of your brain is deprived of oxygen and nutrients, causing brain cells to die. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke by damaging and weakening your brain's blood vessels, causing them to narrow, rupture or leak. High blood pressure can also cause blood clots to form in the arteries leading to your brain, blocking blood flow and potentially causing a stroke.

"There are lot of conditions which give rise to acute nose bleed. We can go systematically as one of the cause being trauma. During any blows nose is the most vulnerable structure which gets injured. Any injury with a fractured nasal bone or soft tissue injury to other structures of the cheek bones and other bones can result in a brisk nose bleed. Infective conditions include acute rhinitis, chronic rhinitis, acute sinusitis, acute exacerbations of allergic rhinitis, forceful blowing of the nose. Nose picking is another common condition of nose bleed. Not to forget about the septal spurs which are kinking upon the local blood vessels and whenever least amount of trauma occurring on to the septum the individual can result from nose bleed. Some of the rarer causes being malignant conditions of the nose and in adolescent males the condition called angiofibroma of the nose where there can be very brisk severe nose bleed. Sometimes coming to the systemic causes we have to keep in mind hypertension. Raised blood pressure is a very important cause of recurrent nose bleed. This is a posterior epistaxis coming from high up in the nose. Uncontrolled blood pressure really results in a massive nose bleed. Some of the blood dyscrasias also can cause serious epistaxis. Purpuras, haemophilia and any other clotting or bleeding factor deficiency can result in a brisk recurrent nose bleed. There is another condition called hereditary haemorrhagic telengiectasia where there are small abnormal capillaries scattered all around the mucosa of the nose. These people keep on coming with recurrent minor or sometimes major nose bleed. Medications like aspirin or clopidogrel can result in thinning of the mucosa result in quite copious epistaxis. Sometimes environmental conditions like excessive heating or dryness of the air can result in epistaxis. "

True, you cannot have perpetually high BP because it's dangerous, however, you can gradually lower it naturally with fruits and vegetables, vitamins and minerals. If you can't sleep, there can be numerous reasons for this. However, if it's due to sleep apnea, we can tell you that it's due to your throat muscles (including your tongue) collapsing too much during sleep. Defining High Blood Pressure High blood pressure or hypertension is a common condition. In fact, in the U.S. about one third of adults have been diagnosed with this disease, which is linked to heart attack, heart disease, stroke, kidney impairment and other conditions. Once diagnosed, high blood pressure is treatable with medications and by modifying your diet. One common measure is reducing your sodium intake. However, cinnamon may also help reduce your blood pressure levels as well. The Cinnamon-Blood Pressure Connection According to a 2006 study conducted by the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, cinnamon actually helps reduce blood pressure in people with diabetes. (The researchers also noted that cinnamon reduces systolic blood pressure in people without diabetes, too.) Though the reason for this occurring is not clear, it does seem that cinnamon reduces the amount of circulating insulin, which may explain why it's effective for those with diabetes. It was found that a half a teaspoon a day is enough to reduce your blood pressure levels. Administering Cinnamon You can consume it in a variety of ways, the easiest of which is by simply adding freshly shaved cinnamon to the foods you eat each day. However, you could also take cinnamon supplements in the form of capsules or pills. Be sure it is derived from fresh cinnamon, not the powdered kind commonly sold in the spice section of the grocery store. This kind of cinnamon comes from the Cassia plant and contains Coumarin, which is toxic in large doses. When supplementing with this kind of cinnamon, you may place yourself at a higher risk of kidney or liver damage. To avoid this, buy the stick form of cinnamon, which usually comes from the Ceylon plant. Add a stick to your morning tea or add it to pies. Warnings Cinnamon is not without its side effects. For some people, suddenly increasing the amount of cinnamon they eat can cause gingivitis, flushing (the sudden rush of blood to the face, causing warmth), gastrointestinal upset and irritated lining of the mouth. Some people should not use cinnamon in any great quantity, especially those using blood thinners like aspirin, since the spice prevents clotting. Likewise, if you are pregnant, cinnamon can cause uterine problems. Additionally, if you have ulcers, do not take cinnamon as a supplement. As always, consult with your doctor before supplementing your diet with cinnamon.

What keeps me motivated to work out? Which by the way, here I am right now. I just pulled up to the gym. Yup, I'm parked and I'm sitting inside my truck, because I thought, you know what? I'm sitting here jamming out, and I'm getting pumped. I'm going in to work out, and I had to share this with you. As I drive myself to this gym, it takes me approximately 20 to 25 minutes just to get here. That's 20 minutes here, 20 minutes home. That's 40 minutes minimum of time. But, I let my diet go for only 6 months last year for the first time since I was 20 years old, and guess what happened? My blood-work came back, my triglycerides, my cholesterol, my blood pressure, everything was through the frickin' roof. Now, here's the shocker. I was working out 5 days a week during that entire time. OK? Even though I just let my diet go, which we all know is probably about 80% of the entire equation. The other 20 is definitely exercise. But believe it or not, exercise is huge when it comes to making sure that you stay fit and getting that cardio in, right? So, not steady state cardio, by the way. What would have happened if I would let myself go? And not drove myself to a gym and or worked out at home, because I can work at home too, which I do a lot of times, because it is a long drive. Because I like to go certain places where the energy is off the chain. But the thing is, I almost frickin died. And the doctors, my blood pressure was 189 over 118. I let my diet go for 6 months. This wasn't long ago. And guess what? I end up off the chain, off the charts. My blood was horrible. So my motivation, not only because I need to stay healthy, was my family. Now, I know that most of you out there have, you have kids, or you have a wife, or you have a boyfriend, or you have a girlfriend, you have a grandma, and you have a mother and a father. They want you here. They want you to be healthy. And the only way that that's going to happen is you have to find something that motivates you. That makes you get up every single day and make you realize that what you put in your mouth is going to affect you. If you're not exercising, it's going to affect you. If you are exercising, it's going to affect you in a great way. So my motivation became that horrible experience to teach me a frickin lesson that I cannot let myself go. I cannot just have nachos and Cuban sandwiches and wings and ice cream and cake 24/7. It can't happen. But what I can do is I can exercise regularly, at least 3 times a week-- which I do 5, by the way because remember 3 days a week is a difference. 4 days a week, five days a week is athletic. If you want to look athletic, if you want to feel athletic, you got to train 4 to 5 times a week. So my motivation became my family. And I want to share that with you, because right now, I was thinking about you as I was jamming, just about, I'm getting pumped up, going into the gym, about to get my exercise on, and I was thinking about you. Because if you're not exercising right now, I'm letting you know, you could be a walking time bomb. If you are exercising and you're not doing it properly, you're wasting your time. If you're not eating properly, you're not utilizing the exercise that you do in your home or in a gym. So 80% is affected by that. I am living proof. So my motivation became my family. Today we are going to talk about Face Mapping. Face Mapping is an old way of identifying the cause of breakouts by linking areas of the face to different organs in the body.This method has been around for thousands of years, 2) Our bodies are one unit; Everything is connected in one way or another. Each organ manifests itself differently. 3) So, first let’s map out the face. The areas of the face are divided into different sections. We’ll start with the forehead. 4) The forehead is linked to the digestive system. Breakouts in this area are the result of too much fat and refined sugar in your diet. 5) If the forehead is your problem area, try reducing the amount of processed junk food you consume and add whole grains, veggies, and antioxidant rich fruits. 6) The area between your eyebrows is linked to the liver. Breakouts in this area are caused by the over consumption of rich fatty foods and alcohol. The occasional glass of red wine is known to be good for the heart, but make sure to keep everything in moderation. 7) Your nose is linked to your heart. If you are suffering from breakouts on your nose, check your blood pressure. Replace spicy foods, meat, and salt with fruits, veggies, and nuts. Also, find time to relax. Stress dramatically increases blood pressure, so find activities that bring your peace and relaxation. 8) Lung problems manifest on the cheeks. Breakouts on the cheeks signal respiratory problems. Smoking greatly increases your chances of breakouts in these areas. Avoid high air pollution, as much as you can! 9) The mouth is linked to the intestines and the liver. If you get pimples around your mouth, this, again, could be due to your diet. Cut back on greasy fried food and increase your water intake! 10) The chin is linked to hormones. Women typically break out on the chin around the time of menstruation. It can also be due to a hormonal imbalance, caused by stress. 11) Your skin represents the health of your whole body. Living a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly and eating whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins will ensure healthy skin! 12) Hope this helped you find the cause of your acne!
