Five House Republicans hope to add to Democrats' healthcare reform bill an amendment that would automatically enroll members of Congress in the public option program. The effort, spearheaded by Reps. John Fleming (La.), Joe Wilson (S.C.), Wally Herger (Calif.), Phil Gingrey (Ga.) and Steve Scalise (La.), would bar lawmakers from participating in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, which they currently use for health insurance. Instead, members would have to rely on the Health Insurance Exchange and the public option plan House Democrats are proposing in their latest healthcare reform effort. If Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi [D-Calif.] and her Democratic counterparts truly believe that their government insurance option is the best way forward for healthcare in the United States, then they should be fully supportive of amending the bill to ensure that every single member of Congress, both in the House and Senate, is enrolled in it," explained Rep. Gingrey, who is leading the new campaign. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/66331-gop-members-offer-amendment-to-force-congress-to-participate-in-public-plan

We look at how Bernie Sanders' socialized healthcare / single payer plan, that he originally released during his 2016 primary campaign against Hillary Clinton, will add trillions upon trillions of dollars to the national debt because Sanders lied about how much it would cost and wasn't willing to admit to needing to raise taxes enough - to make it more palatable to voters outside of the left wing - and how the healthcare system people actually want is A more lengthy review of the debt numbers and polling data on the public option (AKA - the healthcare system around 70% of the country supports, vs 30-40% that supports single payer), see this post on our website: https://uniters.org/2017/sanders-single-payer-add-trillions-to-national-debt-7757 --- Thanks for watching - please do your part by sharing this video with anyone you think would be interested or on any of your social profiles, giving us a thumbs up, subscribing & following our other social accounts below: ★-★-★-★-★ Subscribe to be notified of Uniters.org videos on our YouTube: Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnNPzU99bThRKAs4KtCqLmw Like Uniters.org on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/unitersorg/ Follow Uniters.org on Twitter: https://twitter.com/UnitersCentrist Join our Allied Group 'Knights of the Center' on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/knightsofthecenter/ Subscribe to our weekly E-mail newsletter: Engage with our Google Plus Community: https://plus.google.com/communities/114765913240520353391 ✪-★-★-★-✯ Leftist Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is set to release legislation based on his ‘single payer’, socialized healthcare plan - we revisit the false claims he made about it during the his presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton - especially the huge gap between the reality of how much it would cost, and how much Sanders falsely claimed it would cost. In line with Sanders’ pattern of giving more than he can and stealing from future generations, the Sanders campaign released estimates of around $13.8 trillion for his single payer plan over the first ten years. The problem with that is independent estimates from economic think tanks put it around half of the actual cost. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimate stands at $25 trillion, while the liberal Urban Institute think tank estimate is at $29 trillion. To say the least & be kind, Sanders' "estimate" (more aptly described as deceptive marketing) is also an extreme outlier. [American People Want the Public Option, not Single Payer] The reality is, the American people have supported the public option, not single payer, since 2009 when Obama and the Democrats nearly passed a system based on it. They still do – it’s numbers appear to have even gone up some. Most polls have support in in the low to mid-60’s, but those numbers grow when you describe how the public option works, rather than just use the label. Doing that increases the support for the public option from 62%, to 70% – according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll - far higher than any poll shows support for single-payer, and the highest level of support for any healthcare reform option that has been offered. [Sanders' Plan Funded By Left Wing Fairy Tale Money] The fiscal reality is that Sanders wants to give more than he’s willing to take, in order to buy support and pass legislation that fits his ideological view, while saddling future generations with the bill. Luckily, the chances that Sanders’ plan will pass are very small. Not only is there concern from liberal think tanks, but there are a number of liberal Democrats (Hillary Clinton, for instance) who have expressed concerns about it, and it remains unpopular in polls. As a connection on Twitter pointed out earlier, it may lose more support once the legislation is released an the CBO run the numbers on it and find that it would take only about a decade for it to cause the debt to skyrocket 40% higher than even the highest point it ever reached (in 1946 - stemming from the astronomical cost of World War II. Two facts hold it back from passage: 1. The bill wont pass if it adds so many trillions of dollars to the national debt, among other reasons. 2. The bill can’t be paid for without massive tax increases that have no chance of passing. [The Bipartisan Light at the End of the Tunnel] While the legislation has yet to be worked out, groups like the Problem Solver’s Caucus in the House and the Bipartisan Policy Center are working on improvements to the current system that would bring costs down, give people more options and actually has a shot at passing. Let's hope they succeed. --- See the full-length version of this post here: https://uniters.org/2017/sanders-single-payer-add-trillions-to-national-debt-7757 Join us and Help put the U back in U.S.A.!

During the fight to pass the Affordable Care Act, progressives pushed hard for a public option. Yet President Obama didn’t seem to be that into the idea. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. “Importance: The Affordable Care Act is the most important health care legislation enacted in the United States since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. The law implemented comprehensive reforms designed to improve the accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care. Objectives: To review the factors influencing the decision to pursue health reform, summarize evidence on the effects of the law to date, recommend actions that could improve the health care system, and identify general lessons for public policy from the Affordable Care Act. Evidence: Analysis of publicly available data, data obtained from government agencies, and published research findings. The period examined extends from 1963 to early 2016. Findings: The Affordable Care Act has made significant progress toward solving long-standing challenges facing the US health care system related to access, affordability, and quality of care. Since the Affordable Care Act became law, the uninsured rate has declined by 43%, from 16.0% in 2010 to 9.1% in 2015, primarily because of the law’s reforms. Research has documented accompanying improvements in access to care (for example, an estimated reduction in the share of nonelderly adults unable to afford care of 5.5 percentage points), financial security (for example, an estimated reduction in debts sent to collection of $600-$1000 per person gaining Medicaid coverage), and health (for example, an estimated reduction in the share of nonelderly adults reporting fair or poor health of 3.4 percentage points). The law has also begun the process of transforming health care payment systems, with an estimated 30% of traditional Medicare payments now flowing through alternative payment models like bundled payments or accountable care organizations. These and related reforms have contributed to a sustained period of slow growth in per-enrollee health care spending and improvements in health care quality. Despite this progress, major opportunities to improve the health care system remain. Conclusions and Relevance: Policy makers should build on progress made by the Affordable Care Act by continuing to implement the Health Insurance Marketplaces and delivery system reform, increasing federal financial assistance for Marketplace enrollees, introducing a public plan option in areas lacking individual market competition, and taking actions to reduce prescription drug costs. Although partisanship and special interest opposition remain, experience with the Affordable Care Act demonstrates that positive change is achievable on some of the nation’s most complex challenges.” Read more here: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2533698 Hosts: Cenk Uygur Cast: Cenk Uygur *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Help us cover the political revolution: http://www.patreon.com/TYTNation "The healthcare system supported by Bernie Sanders and many liberal-leaning Democrats has begun gaining steam with more Americans, according to a new poll. The poll, from the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonpartisan health policy think tank, found that: 59% of respondents supported a Medicare-for-all healthcare system in which all Americans would get coverage through a government program like Medicare or Medicaid. Moving to a public-option model, under which people could sign up for the Medicare-like program, would be even more popular. About 75% of the public would favor a program framed as a public option for anyone who wants it. Sarah Badawi, Progressive Change Campaign Committee(PCCC) & Ashley Spillane, Vote.org all join Thom. U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley announced in an email on Friday that 33 Democratic senators now back a public option being added to Obamacare. Democrats have started more loudly calling for a public option as major private insurers have pulled out of ObamaCare marketplaces and left parts of the country with only one provider to choose from. But not all Democrats have jumped on board - Senator Heidi Heitkamp for instance is holding out support - and she said in July that "I think it's critically important that we stop trying to complicate healthcare and we start taking a look at what needs to be fixed in Obamacare.” Will this help the Democrats in down-ballot elections by giving progressives and first time voters something to vote for? Nevada is trying out a revolutionary idea in healthcare coverage. Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, and Jimmy Dore, the hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. https://tytnetwork.com/join/ “The U.S. health-care system is, to put it mildly, in a state of flux. The complex system of near-universal access to public and private health insurance created by the Affordable Care Act is being threatened internally by declining insurer participation and externally by the slow-motion riot of Republican plans to repeal and replace it. Within and beyond the Obamacare repeal effort, the Trump administration and congressional Republicans are seeking massive cutbacks in Medicaid funding, partially through a permanent per-capita cap on federal allocations to the states. The CHIP program, a sort of Medicaid supplementary program covering children and run by the states, is up for reauthorization. And in several states, including California and New York, serious initiatives are underway to go in an entirely different direction, with state-run single-payer systems that would in theory replace all existing public and private insurance with a universal insurance plan modeled on Medicare. In the midst of all this activity there’s a new idea percolating up in Nevada: letting anyone without health insurance buy into the state’s Medicaid program. This would include people who qualify for Obamacare tax credits, which could be used to pay for the buy-in; in effect, that would make Medicaid a public option — a phrase you might remember from Obamacare deliberations, when it was a Medicare buy-in — for individual insurance purchasers. Because of Medicaid’s low reimbursement rates for doctors and other health-care providers (significantly lower than Medicare), it should provide an economical alternative to private insurance, though at the cost of narrower provider options (a significant number of physicians do not accept Medicaid patients). Medicaid also has a broad range of benefits, with no co-pays or deductibles.” Read more here: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/06/nevada-is-considering-a-revolutionary-health-care-experiment.html Hosts: Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore Cast: Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. With the weaknesses of the Affordable Care Act aka "Obamacare" being obvious after the debacle with health insurance giant Aetna, Bernie Sanders is calling for a quick fix that would save Obamacare: a public option. This would force health insurance giants to compete with an optional government-run healthcare plan, and keep them in check by means of this competition. How are Democrats responding? Well, they're running away from this fight, of course, and are afraid to take on another "politically taxing" healthcare battle. They're also bought and paid for by the health insurance industry. Medicare Disability. Complete Medicare Resource Center here: Medicare Back Office 877-385-8083 Tell them Keith sent you! What is Medicare Disability? Medicare is a form of public healthcare cover provided for people over the age of 65 years or those below 65 years who are diagnosed with listed chronic ailments and disabilities. End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Lou Gehrig’s disease (a form of Sclerosis or ALS), and proof of social security support for disability for a period of 24 months, are approved for disability cover. Public medical assistance follows stringent qualifying criteria offering members more affordable deductibles and full coverage for specific classes of prescription drugs. To learn about Medicare Disability and its qualifying criteria, the following provides a complete breakdown of this modern public health system. Medicare Disability Medicare Disability is a government funded healthcare plan available for select beneficiaries. If you are 65 years and older, you automatically qualify for cover. For individuals, younger than 65 years presenting with ESRD and ALS, cover is offered. Medical assistance is also available for those under 65 who have been receiving Social Security benefits for disability for at least 24 months. If you receive Social Security Disability benefits for the qualifying period, you will automatically be eligible to receive Part A and Part B of the public healthcare plan. It offers convenience, major savings and the option to visit a specific network of doctors. If you have received approval for Medicare, but not obtained these Social Security benefits, you will have to pay for the extra cover needed. Once you have been approved for Medicare, you can receive the full range of features that it provides for disabilities. This includes access to specific standards of nursing assistance, a group of doctors, listed prescription drugs, and the option to visit approved hospitals. Medicare Approval To receive the approval for the necessary public healthcare benefits, the state will automatically enrol persons over 65 years. For those who are receiving Social Security benefits for disabilities, once the 24-month period has passed, you should receive the qualifying Medicare card for public healthcare accessibility. Ensure that the Social Security department has your updated details. You should receive your card in your post as soon as the necessary criteria are met. If you do not receive your Medicare card or you have not obtained automatic cover, you must contact the relevant Social Security Department. It will help determine your approval including the extent of cover and whether you need to purchase Part A of the Medicare plan. You do not have to present with a specific disability to receive Medicare benefits. Long term care or terminal illness should receive healthcare approval. If you are struggling to receive eligibility for Medicare Disability, consult with your physician. A report concerning your diagnosis should be submitted for review. Individuals with disabilities who continue to work can obtain benefits for a set trial period and provided their gross earning do not exceed a specific limit. The benefits are provided so long individuals are disabled during their working trial and are noted “cured” or recover from their disabilities. Learning of the Medicare qualifying criteria and potential restrictions can help you rely on government funded healthcare plans. Sen. Bernie Sanders challenged the claim that he plans to dismantle Obamacare if elected president of the United States at the PBS NewsHour Democratic Debate on Thursday. "I have fought my entire life to make sure that health care is a right for all people. We're not going to dismantle anything," said Sanders. Clinton said she and Sanders share the goal of universal health care coverage in the United States, but repeated her belief that building on the existing health care system and Affordable Care Act is a better option than creating a new system.
