Find LearnLiberty on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/X9qijG After the housing bubble burst, the Bush and Obama administrations turned to stimulus in an effort to "create jobs." Does such spending lead to economic improvement? Prof. Antony Davies examines the data to see how increases in federal spending relate to economic growth from 1955 to the present. The evidence shows that there is no connection between federal spending and economic improvement; instead, stimulus money only increases government debt. After three years of stimulus spending, the unemployment rate remains at 9 percent. "One thing that has changed," Davies says, "is that our government is now $4.6 trillion further in debt than it was before the stimulus efforts." Find LearnLiberty on... Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews China Software Testing Center recently released the 2011 Chinese Government Website Performance Evaluation Results, which reveals a 10% satisfaction rate. Commentators pointed out that Chinese Government's websites are part of its propaganda system, resulting in people not being satisfied with them. It has been10 years since the Mainland Chinese government set up internet services, but performance is lower than expected. Officials in general think of website operation and management as additional burdens. It is common that websites are unattended or poorly managed. Some websites have not been updated for a long time, some always label people's complaints with "have read." Many websites exist in name only. Website security is also particularly concerning. Regarding the satisfaction ratio, establisher of 64tianwang.com, Huang Qi, said these websites are part of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s propaganda system. It is within expectation that the public do not trust them. Huang Qi: "The non-government websites by far surpass CCP's websites in terms of accessibility and truth, as well as the insight of the analysis. Information on official websites is garbage, compared to the real information on non-government websites. Huang Qi said, many petitioners visit government websites for information, only to find out it is outdated and even false. When petitioners follow the online procedures, they were even laughed at. Huang Qi: "Therefore the CCP has lost its credibility. The inconsistency between what it says and what it does caused the public to lose trust in it. This is a reflection of the CCP itself." In June 2011, some media revealed the headline picture on the website of Liangshan Autonomous Area, of Sichuan Province, was fake. The pictures of three leaders were pasted on a road. They look like they are flying. Netizens nicknamed it the "flying picture." Soon after, a similar incident happened in Shanxi Province. A Chinese netizen 'Liaodayuan': "I recently visited some Chinese government websites. Netizens have very low trust in these sites. We do not get any real information. I think more people should pay attention to these websites. They should come to see how the Chinese government lies, covering up the truth on the internet." China Software Testing Center researcher Wang Lida told China's media, that the financial source of these websites are from the government, without competition. The government should strengthen the evaluation of the sites. Facing the pressure from people, China's State Council asked local governments to "open up information." But the information people want to know is still classified as confidential. For example, the resume of 29-year-old county leader Yan Ning of Guantao County, Hebei Province, is classified by the local government as secret, and has disappeared from the government web site. By contrast, some sensitive information that should not be revealed was leaked on the government websites. According to Mainland media, some government websites once revealed traffic boarding card information -- passenger information will show up by entering card numbers. If similar problems occur with tax authorities' website, personal tax information will be leaked. NTD reporters Zhu Zhishan, Li Ting and Xiao Yu 《神韵》2011世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

These electrical signals then move into the fluid that surrounds the brain and travel up and down the spinal column The signals then communicate with every fiber, cell and bone in the body and enables us to transform our thoughts into reality Just thinking about your goals or plans for the following day only uses the right hemisphere of your brain, which is imaginative - writing it down taps into the logic-based left hemisphere Cold Showers Build Resilience and Reduction of Stress Cold showers act as a small form of oxidative stress on your nervous system. And overtime, the body adapts to this, making you calmer and more collected Continuous cold exposure works as an adaptation to repeated oxidative stress, and is postulated as a mechanism for body hardening - the exposure to a natural stimulus, which results in an increased tolerance to stress Additionally, a study published in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine looked at healthy subjects who swam regularly in ice-cold water during the winter - they were evaluated before and after short-term whole body exposure Found that repeated exposure to cold water led to lower levels of uric acid and increased levels of glutathione in the blood - both of which help to reduce stress (4) May Help Improve Sleep A study from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine looked at the effectiveness of a technique called frontal cerebral thermal transfer in alleviating symptoms of insomnia. The technique involves cooling down the prefrontal cortex using a plastic cap covered with water circulating tubes, seeks to slow down the metabolism in the frontal cortex - designed to counteract the increased metabolism in this part of the brain associated with insomnia The study included 12 women with insomnia and 12 women without insomnia who were similar in age and examined their sleep quality with and without the cooling caps Found that cooling the brain of those with insomnia reduced the amount of time it took them to fall asleep and increased the amount of sleep they got, bringing their results in line with the participants who did not have insomnia On average, when given the highest intensity treatment, those with insomnia were able to fall asleep in 13 minutes compared to the 16 minutes it took their non-insomniac peers - also enabled those with insomnia to get more sleep, matching the percentage of time their peers spent sleeping while in bed at 89% Color Association Compartmentalization is a defense mechanism, or a coping strategy, that helps us deal with conflict - Isolating and focusing a certain emotion on a specific color allows us to dissociate that feeling with the real world Different colors produce different psychological, emotional, and physical effects. Some colors are calming and can help you relax and release your worries; some colors are stimulating. References 1) The Power of Writing Down Your Goals and Dreams | HuffPost. (n.d.). Is Social Security a good retirement plan? Economics professor Antony Davies shows that Americans stand to earn significantly less and assume more risk with Social Security than other investment options. According to Davies, taxpayers would be better off both in terms of financial security and return on investment by investing their money privately. Social security is extremely expensive, soon to be insolvent, and doesn't even offer taxpayers the most bang for their buck. For those reasons, Prof. Davies argues that it is time for the government to phase out Social Security. Davies' solution: the government should honor its obligations to current retirees while giving Americans the freedom to invest their money as they see fit. Find LearnLiberty on... So, we've been putting off a kind of basic question here. What is money? What is currency? How are the two different. Well, not to give away too much, but money has a few basic functions. It acts as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and as a unit of account. Money isn't just bills and coins. It can be anything that meets these three criteria. In US prisons, apparently, pouches of Mackerel are currency. Yes, mackerel the fish. Paper and coins work as money because they're backed by the government, which is an advantage over mackerel. So, once you've got money, you need finance. We'll talk about borrowing, lending, interest, and stocks and bonds. Also, this episode features a giant zucchini, which Adriene grew in her garden. They came out in big numbers for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential primaries. They rail against capitalism on their college campuses. They wear Che Guevara t-shirts to signal their socialist virtue. I know a lot about socialism. I live in Rio de Janeiro, and I work throughout Brazil as a journalist for a popular magazine. In the early 2000s, Brazil’s economy was growing rapidly. The government had enacted economic and monetary reforms and divested holdings in some state-run companies, giving the private sector more room to breathe. Inflation—a chronic problem in Brazil—was dramatically reduced. Foreign investors poured into the country, eager to catch a portion of our expanding economy. The future seemed promising. But today, our economy is in shambles, unemployment and debt are massive, and powerful politicians are being investigated for involvement in the largest scandals of fraud and corruption in the country's history. What happened? In 2002, a socialist politician named Lula da Silva ran for the presidency. He was a socialist, but painted himself as a modern, cool kind of socialist. He would be the politician who would heal national divisions and unite everyone. He even had a nickname: “Lulinha paz e amor,” which means "Little Lula peace and love" in Portuguese. But the old message about the need for income redistribution to decrease inequality was still there. The media, academic elite and celebrities assured Brazilians that by transferring the money from the rich to the poor, the poor could finally be richer. But the only ones who really got rich were Lula and his corporate and political friends. It only got worse under his successor, Dilma Rousseff. The socialists increased government spending, deficits, and debt. They called it a “stimulus.” They increased the minimum wage and the benefits of social programs. They called it “social justice.” They increased the salaries and retirement benefits of the civil service. They called it “investing in the future.” They handed out thousands of jobs in the government and state-owned companies as favors to their political allies. And they called it “good governance.” It worked for a while. Socialism always works at the beginning. But government spending just kept going up, and then Lula’s socialist paradise fell apart and the economy fell with it. The outcome: from 2008 to 2015, government spending grew nearly four times as fast as tax revenue. The economy shrank 3.8 percent in 2015, the worst result in 25 years. That same year, a World Bank survey found Brazil’s economy to be one of the world’s worst. Out of 189 countries, we were the 16th hardest place to open a business, the 60th most difficult nation in which to register property, and the 12th most complex place to pay taxes. Economically and morally, the almost 15 years of socialist policies have greatly harmed Brazil. We also remain among the world's leaders in murder and robbery, and we rank near the bottom of industrialized nations in terms of education and health care. In August, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey argued in the pages of the Wall Street Journal that the solution to America's health care crisis was to be found in "less government control and more individual empowerment." His own company's unique health care plan, Mackey wrote, covers 90 percent of employees, costs less than health insurance plans, aned provides a "very high degree of worker satisfaction." But for the sin of not supporting a government take over of health care, labor unions and left-wing activists called for a boycott of Whole Foods, claiming that Mackey's solutions were unworkable and his employees were unhappy. Reason.tv talked to protesters, Mackey, and employees about "the Whole Foods alternative to ObamaCare." Produced by Michael C. Moynihan and Dan Hayes. Edited by Dan Hayes. Approximately 5 minutes. Like so many cities in the U.S., Indianapolis was struggling to provide services and projecting a budget shortfall of 150 million dollars in 2012. Unlike most other cities, however, Indianapolis has become more efficient over the past four years. Under Ballard's leadership, the city pursued a variety of innovative approaches, including a partnership with a private firm to manage the city's water and waste water, that have improved services and restored the city's financial health. Reason TV's Paul Feine sat down with Ballard to learn more about how he's making city government do more with less while day-to-day life for Indy residents. About 5 minutes. transcript Why should anyone be interested in helping you for free? The government benefits if it gives small business start up loans and that is why it helps. o Statistics show that small businesses number more than the big businesses. o Small businesses employ more than 50 percent of the work force. o Small businesses contribute to more than 50 percent of the nation's GDP-Gross Domestic Product. o Small businesses are the principal source of new jobs. Starting a small business or expanding your small business is not easy. Expert guidance and help is given to you for free by SBA. The US Small Business Administration was established in 1953 and has business offices in every state. SBA works with thousands of lending, educational and training institutions nationwide. It does not provide grants but offers counseling. Government small business loans are offered to many entrepreneurs. Look up the web sites of the state economic development agencies to know if it is available in your state. SBA is only a guarantor of loans offered by banks and other private financial institutions. The lending institutions that agree to terms of the SBA provide loans to small businesses through SBA. In case of inability of repayment of loan within the stipulated time; the SBA pays the lender the agreed upon guarantee amount, and the borrower has to pay the SBA the entire amount. Can the SBA help you? Small business is one that is independently owned and operated and is not dominant in its field of operation. SBA has regulations to determine whether your business qualifies as a small business. You could look up the SBA website or federal government regulations to find out if your small business startup loan or small business loan for expansion qualifies. Your business has qualified then the next question that any lender would ask you, is: Do you have a business plan? Most lenders would require a detailed description of the business you are going to start up or expand. Look up the SBA site http://www.sba.gov/starting_business/index.html for planning options and counseling. The many things that SBA helps you is o Writing a business plan o Getting the loan o Marketing o Licenses and Laws o Patents and copyrights o Selling to government and abroad o Hiring employees o Buying the right equipment. Notable among it various programs are Small business loans for minorities, Small business loans for Women, Small business loans for veterans and young entrepreneurs. The various small business loan programs offered by SBA are. Basic 7(a) Loan Guaranty This is the primary business loan program. It is offered to those who do not qualify for loans through the normal lending channels. The terms offered by SBA are more flexible. Valid loans are those where the proceeds of the loan are used for sound business purposes. The maturity is 10 to 25 years depending upon working capital and fixed assets. http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/7a.htm Loan Prequalification Low income borrowers, disabled business owners, exporters, rural and specialized industries are the target for this program. Bad credit small business loans do not fall in this category. The applicant has a credit merit then it is easier to secure the loan. http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/prequalification.htm Certified Development Company (CDC), a 504 Loan Program This is a variant of the Basic 7(a) loan to obtain real estate or equipment for expansion or modernization. http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/cdc504.htm Micro Loan, a 7(m) Loan Program This is available in selected locations in most states. The SBA stand as guarantor to organizations that provided the loans, technical assistance and management for small scale financing. Not-for-profit child-care centers can also avail these loans for working capital or purchase of inventory or supplies. http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/microloans.htm Disaster Recovery Home owners, Property owners in disaster areas qualify for this loan program. Term of the loan is 30 year and the rate of interest is below 8 percent for those who can obtain credit elsewhere and below 4 percent for those who cannot obtain credit elsewhere. http://www.sba.gov/disaster_recov/loaninfo/property.html

Alex Jones delves further into the military run, martial law state America is becoming. The Governments militarization and occupation of the united stated has been slowly building momentum, in the hope of not being noticed by the public until it is too late. like a frog in cool water that is slowly brought to a boil, doesnt realize hes being cooked. This is the same idea put forth by the government for martial law/takeover of our home soil. The military have been seen, videotaped, and even publicly documented practicing gun confiscations, military lockdown, curfews, and trained to round up potential terrorists, militia members, veterans, and people who publicly acknowledge or defend the constitution and our for fathers Should a robber break into my house, and with a dagger at my throat make me seal deeds to convey my estate to him, would this give him any title? Just such a title, by his sword, has an unjust conqueror, who forces me into submission. The injury and the crime is equal, whether committed by the wearer of a crown, or some petty villain. The title of the offender, and the number of his followers, make no difference in the offence, unless it be to aggravate it. The only difference is, great robbers punish little ones, to keep them in their obedience; but the great ones are rewarded with laurels and triumphs, because they are too big for the weak hands of justice in this world, and have the power in their own possession, which should punish offenders. — John Locke, The Second Treatise of Civil Government Another Noteworthy writing of John Locke Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience. But there is only one thing which gathers people into seditious commotion, and that is oppression -John Lock-

The companion blog post to this video can be found here: http://realizeyourretirement.com/tsp-lifecycle-funds/ -Transcript- Hey Everybody, Dieter Scherer here, fee-only financial planner and Founder of Realize Your Retirement. Today, we are going to go over TSP Lifecycle Funds and an example of why they aren't that great. Lifecycle funds started cropping up in the early 2000's as a cheaper way to invest with professional advice. The idea is pretty attractive, invest your money with a lifecycle fund targeted to your date of retirement and you never have to worry about managing your investment. While the idea is great in theory, it falls short in practice. Investment management should be based on: Your ability to deal with volatility in your portfolio Your income and growth needs The value of assets outside of your retirement account The allocation of your other investment accounts Tax minimization Your time horizon, which is the amount of time over which you invest Instead, Lifecycle funds only focus on one aspect of your investment management: you time horizon. As we discussed a moment ago your time horizon is only one piece of the investment management puzzle. Fund administrators need to cater to all members in the fund. The average investor is fairly risk averse, so they are ultra conservative with the portfolio allocation. The TSP.Gov website allows us to view the investment strategy of the Lifecycle Funds over the lifetime of the fund. I've recorded the changes in the asset allocation over time for this video. Here, we see the change in the 2020 Lifecycle fund between its inception in August 2005 and 2020, when the fund's management ends. The portfolio shifts from a fairly conservative in 2005 to a very conservative portfolio in 2012 and an ultra conservative portfolio in 2020. As you can see, by retirement, the fund's assets will be 74% invested in the G Fund, which is government securities. Here's the problem with overly conservative portfolios. With the medical advances of recent years, most people should plan to have a 30 year retirement. The G Fund returned 2.45% in 2011. Inflation was 3% in 2011. Money invested in the G-Fund lost 0.55% of its purchasing power. Over the long term, low returns from government securities will either shorten the life of your portfolio or drastically reduce the amount you can withdraw each year. To maintain purchasing power over the long term, it's wise to have much more exposure to equities. What If Things Are Different When I Retire? Our economy doesn't look like it will change much in the near future. Interest rates are currently at record lows and the Federal Reserve is prepared to keep rates low for the next several years. Low interest rates and stimulus money from the Federal Reserve will most likely keep inflation around 3% or higher. An asset allocation that is 74% government securities will most likely not even support a conservative income from your portfolio. Lifecycle funds are presented as a smart way and cheap way to manage your money, but this lofty goal falls short in reality. The ultraconservative allocation that these funds will ultimately reach will hamper the survival of your portfolio throughout retirement. I would encourage you to research a more optimal asset allocation for your needs or view my upcoming free video course on smart investment management. More details will be posted about the course in the coming week.

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Great Recession ended in the summer of 2009. Yet we're all uneasy. Job growth has been disappointing. The recovery seems fragile. Where should we head from here? Is that question even meaningful? Can the government steer the economy or have past attempts helped create the mess we're still in? In "Fight of the Century", Keynes and Hayek weigh in on these central questions. Do we need more government spending or less? What's the evidence that government spending promotes prosperity in troubled times? Can war or natural disasters paradoxically be good for an economy in a slump? Should more spending come from the top down or from the bottom up? What are the ultimate sources of prosperity? Keynes and Hayek never agreed on the answers to these questions and they still don't. Let's listen to the greats. See Keynes and Hayek throwing down in "Fight of the Century"! Yesterday, one of President Trump's economic advisors, Kevin Hassett, the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, gave a press conference at the White House about the President's tax cuts, budget deficits and update on the economy. Here's the full transcript from the press conference: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/press-briefing-principal-deputy-press-secretary-raj-shah-chairman-council-economic-advisers-kevin-hassett-02222018/ During the press conference, Hassett was asked by a reporter about inflation: "Q: Can you address some of the critics who say that the economic policies of this President may lead to greater inflation? MR. HASSETT: Yeah, that’s right — that’s something that people are concerned about. And, certainly, there’s been some inflation data that has caused some pause for markets, some concerns for markets. Our view is that most of our policies are going to create growth for the economy on the supply side, and that when the supply-side growth comes, then that’s actually good for inflation, because if you increase supply, it puts downward pressure on prices. " None of the press covering this press conference mentioned how Hassett stated (incorrectly) that massive supply side economic stimulus and large budget deficits are actually deflationary. Here's one article summarizing the press conference: https://ijr.com/2018/02/1069415-economic-expert-confidant-in-trumps-plan-for-continued-growth/ During the Ronald Reagan administration, supply side economics was used but the US was still a credit nation and it's national debt was orders of magnitude smaller than now. Trump and his economic advisors admitting they are using massive amounts of supply side economic stimulus will most likely result in a lot worse stagflation in the future. http://gopleader.gov WASHINGTON, D.C. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today released a new YouTube video targeting the failure of Washington Democrats trillion-dollar stimulus bill and asking where are the jobs? The tongue-in-cheek web video, inspired by a classic 1984 TV commercial by now-Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), features a job-sniffing GOP bloodhound named Ellie Mae and a down-home voiceover by Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA). This is a lighthearted web video, but the underlying point is no laughing matter, Boehner said. At a time when Americans are looking to Washington for leadership, the trillion-dollar stimulus has been a wasteful failure. Americans were promised the stimulus would keep the unemployment rate from going above eight percent. Its now at 9.4 percent, and rising. Where are the jobs? In the video, job-sniffing bloodhounds follow the stimulus money trail across the nation in search of the millions of jobs the Obama Administration promised to save or create if the trillion-dollar spending bill were enacted. The trail takes them to AIG Headquarters in New York City, where stimulus funds were used to pay big bonuses to top executives; to Wisconsin, where stimulus funds are paying for repairs to a bridge that reportedly carries about 260 cars per day, many to a place called Rustys Backwater Saloon, according to a June 16 report in the Wall Street Journal; and to North Carolina, where stimulus funds were reportedly used by one town to hire a new worker whose job is to apply for more stimulus funds from Washington. A real stimulus would help small businesses across America get back on their feet and create jobs. Washington hasnt tried that yet. Instead weve made government bigger, wasted taxpayers money, and piled new debt on our children and grandchildren, Boehner said. Republicans have put forth a better solution a plan that recognizes small business, not government, is the engine of the American economy. We hope Washington Democrats will work with us in the months ahead to make it a reality.

"Like the old joke goes, President Obama isn't a doctor, but he plays one on TV -- giving Americans a discomforting glimpse of life under ObamaCare, with government leaders and bureaucrats dispensing medical opinions that are better left to doctors, medical professionals, and patients," said House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH). "This is a lighthearted video, but it underscores a serious point that Congressional Democrats are going to hear throughout August as they travel outside of Washington: Americans want lower health care costs not a trillion-dollar government takeover of health care that increases costs and lets Washington bureaucrats make decisions that should be made by doctors and patients." The House GOP Health Care Solutions Group has crafted a health care reform plan that will address rising health care costs and expand health care access and quality at a price our country can afford. To read about this better solution, go to http://blunt.house.gov/Read.aspx?ID=1140 . President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) should scrap their plan for a government-run health care system and start over, and work with Republicans for real health care reforms that will make a positive difference for all Americans.

Kevin led Australia from December 2007 to June 2010 and again in 2013. His government’s fiscal stimulus package enabled Australia to avoid technical recession during the 2007-09 Global Recession. Only three other advanced economies achieved this feat (Poland, Slovakia and South Korea). Kevin also played a key role in forming the G20 and coordinating its global response to the financial crisis. Kevin is fluent in Mandarin and is internationally regarded as a China expert. He is currently the inaugural President of the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York. Joe caught up with Kevin to learn about the edge-of-your-seat discussions in the Australian government about whether to guarantee domestic banks on the weekend of 11-12 October 2008, while the sky was falling in around the rest of the world. He also presses Kevin on the decision to introduce a temporary First Home Buyers’ Boost, which resuscitated a flagging housing market, potentially leaving a time-bomb for a future government.
