The CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body, including the prostate, lung, brain, spine, liver, pancreas and kidney. The treatment -- which delivers beams of high dose radiation to tumors with extreme accuracy -- offers new hope to patients worldwide. Though its name may conjure images of scalpels and surgery, the CyberKnife treatment involves no cutting. In fact, the CyberKnife System is the world's first and only robotic radiosurgery system designed to treat tumors throughout the body non-invasively. It provides a pain-free, non-surgical option for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex tumors, or who may be looking for an alternative to surgery.

Roswell Park is now treating patients with a brand-new, state-of-the-art Gamma Knife radiosurgery device, the Leksell Gamma Knife® Icon™ — the most advanced technology of its kind on the market. Roswell Park is the first cancer center in the United States to receive a license to operate it and remains the only facility in Western New York with Gamma Knife capabilities. We have used Gamma Knife radiosurgery to treat patients with brain tumors and metastases for 18 years. This latest technology comes with certain advances that mean more patients may qualify as candidates for the treatment, and the ultra-high accuracy minimizes long-term side effects, improving outcomes.

http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/endosterol.html This technique uses advanced image guided techniques to deliver large doses of radiation to a certain precise area, such as the prostate. Because there are large doses of radiation in each dose, the entire course of treatment is given over just a few days. SBRT is often known by the names of the machines that deliver the radiation, such as Gamma Knife®, X-Knife®, CyberKnife®, and Clinac®. The main advantage of SBRT over IMRT is that the treatment takes less time (days instead of weeks). The side effects, though, are not better. In fact, some research has shown that some side effects might actually be worse with SBRT as compared with IMRT. http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/store http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/store/endosterol.html

This is excerpts of me getting Cyberknife treatment for prostate cancer in Feb. of 2011 at Colorado Cyberknife. The Cyberknife can treat low level PC in 5 sessions, but my insurance denied it calling it "experimental" even though they have 5 year data showing it to be highly effective and causing very few side effects and other insurance covering it in different parts of the country. But what my insuror didn't know was that Colorado CK had the worlds only CK VSI machine and that it could do a CK based IMRT protocol which was approved. This meant I had to do 28 sessions with a lower dose of radiation. This was my 17th ride on the table. But I was lucky enough to live 4 miles from CCK! When I began treatment my PSA was 10. At my 6 month bloodtest it was at 2.2. I'm 99% of where I was before treatment with no incontenence or ED problems. I did about 3 weeks of Flomax and was able to get off of that. If you've been diagnosed with Gleason 6 or 7 PC You owe it to yourself to check into Cyberknife treatment.

Animation illustrating surgery with the CyberKnife system used by Dr. Igor Fineman, MD. Radiosurgery involves computer-guided, extremely precise delivery of high doses of radiation. By avoiding open craniotomy or spine surgery in appropriate patients, radiosurgery frequently decreases the risks associated with traditional treatment of neurosurgical conditions. In situations where a brain lesion cannot be safely approached by a craniotomy, because of its association with critical brain structures, radiosurgery may represent the only treatment option. Radiosurgery is typically an outpatient procedure and patients usually resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Over the past decade there have been significant advancements in the field of stereotactic radiosurgery in conjunction with enhanced imaging capabilities and computing power. These technological advancements have resulted in improvement in patient outcomes and have extended the capabilities of radiosurgeons to safely treat a wider variety of neurosurgical conditions. Currently the most widely used systems for delivery of radiosurgery are linear accelerators, CyberKnife and Gamma Knife. We offer radiosurgical treatments utilizing CyberKnife or linear accelerator. The choice of the specific radiosurgical tool typically depends on the specific disease, the size, and the location of the target to be treated. Larry Hotz was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August. Treatment choices included surgery or broad-beam radiation initially. Although his urologist didn't mention a third technique, he found and eventually decided to try to newer radiation technique called Cyberknife. It is laser focused radiation. He changed urologists to Dr. Stan Galanski and was referred to Dr. Dickerson for the treatments. Dr. Dickerson has preformed 4000 treatments on nearly 800 patients. Larrry continued to work showing homes and selling homes while he was treated 5 times over a two week period.

CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Radiation Oncology Associates is powerful tool that provides a non-invasive alternative to conventional surgery for tumors located anywhere in the body with high rates of control that are comparable to surgery while maintaining a low risk of side effects. In the case of prostate cancer, CyberKnife allows us to deliver a much shorter treatment course of 4-5 treatments compared to 40 or more daily treatments using other radiation machines available elsewhere, with comparable success and side effect rates based on a recent publication earlier this year out of Stanford University.
