http://www.jsdowney.com (Version 1.0) UNDERSTANDING FSA PLANS A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an employer-established, tax-advantaged account funded by the employee. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) have always been a great way for employees to budget for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Only an employer can open a Flexible Spending Account and the employee owns the account. Only the employee can make contributions to the account, with limits set by the employer and contributions are made through pre-tax payroll deductions. Funds from this account pay for qualified medical expenses with pre-tax dollars. This account does not earn interest and it won’t reduce health insurance premiums, but it can reduce the out-of-pocket health care expenses of the account holder and lower an employees’ taxable income. As of 11/11/14, the Internal Revenue Service announced the following new benefit plan limits for 2015: Flexible Spending Account (FSAs) Limits • Healthcare FSA: The annual maximum for Healthcare FSAs has increased from $2,500 to $2,550 for 2015. • Dependent Care FSA: At this time, the IRS has not released information on contribution limit changes to these plans. • Transit & Parking FSA: Contribution limits remain unchanged for 2015. The monthly limits are $250 for parking, $130 for transit and $20 for bicycle commuting. F.S.A. DEFINITION FROM HEALTHCARE.GOV: A Flexible Spending Account is a special account you put money into that you use to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs. You don’t have to pay taxes on this money. This means you’ll save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money you set aside. You can use funds in your FSA to pay for certain medical and dental expenses, including copayments and deductibles. FSA's are available only with job-based health plans. Employers may make contributions to your FSA. You can’t spend FSA funds on insurance premiums. NOTE: The Department of Treasury has modified its use-it-or-lose-it rule to allow a limited rollover of FSA funds. Up to $500 of unused FSA funds may now rollover to be used during the following plan year. The new rollover rule is an additional option to the existing 2½ month grace period allowance. Employers may offer the grace period or the rollover option, but not both. As always, be sure to consult your CPA and Plan Administrator on the rules for limits, carry-overs, and allowable deductions for every plan year. F.S.A. Summary: An employer sponsored benefit that enables employees to set aside pre-tax dollars out of their paycheck to pay for eligible health care expenses. Monies put into the plan avoid both Federal Income Tax and FICA. A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows consumers to deduct pre-tax dollars from their paychecks and deposit those funds in employer-sponsored accounts to pay for medical expenses. Consumers then submit expense receipts to healthcare administrators for reimbursement. What types of purchases are FSA-eligible? In addition to standard healthcare expenses, such as doctor visits and prescription drugs, FSA funds can be used for many over-the-counter items including first aid kits, blood pressure monitors, contact lens solutions and supplies, and home medical aids. The IRS sets the guidelines for FSA product eligibility and individual FSA plans have the final determination of which expenses are covered by their FSA programs.

Viparita karani, often referred to as Inverted Lake Pose or Legs up the Wall pose, is definitely one of the easiest and simplest poses that virtually everyone can perform at home. It has become all rage along dancers, athletes, runners, and stressed-out workers due to its ability to both alleviate pain and tightness and calm the mind and reduce anxiety. It is one of the best things you can do for yourself at the end of a tough day or before an important event. Viparita Karani Variations. There are a few different ways to perform this pose, and whichever you choose depends on your own abilities. 1. Legs Straight up the Wall Version. Lie on the back with your bum against the wall, or as close to the wall as possible, with the legs raised straight up the wall hip distance apart. Feel free to prop the bum up on a pillow, particularly if you are pregnant. The soles of the feet should be facing upward toward the ceiling and the arms should be placed beside you for balance. The amount of stiffness in the hips determines how close to the wall your legs are. Ideally, they will be touching the wall, but it might take a while for you to get there. 2. Legs in a Wide “V” Version. For deeper stretch, do the same as explained above, but instead of keeping the feet hip distance apart, spread the legs into a wide V formation. This will enable you to feel a deeper stretch in the groin area while being gentle at the same time. 3. Soles Together Version. Turn the knees outward and put the soles of the feet together, with the legs pressed against the wall. Our modern environment has created conditions that have decreased our levels of physical activity, increased the production of processed and highly caloric foods, while increasing our levels of stress and demands. These environmental / societal pressures have created a toxic combination for people living in the industrialized world. Fortunately these chronic conditions can be prevented, treated or reduced with conscious behavior changes, meaning that we have to become smarter than our environment if we do not want to become chronically ill. Current public health interventions have been unsuccessful, focusing on screening, health education and referral programs and do not provide methods for sustainable behavior change. Yoga addresses the underlying causes of all chronic diseases and provides practical tools to help people create positive change in all aspects of their lives. When we fast we are not just looking to lower calories by not eating, even though fasting will definitely do this the main goal of fasting for fat loss is to decrease insulin levels. And there really is no better solution for doing just that, when you simply don't eat your bodies insulin levels are naturally at their lowest. However, what most people don't realize is that even if you fast perfectly, once you break your fast you can spike your blood sugar and insulin levels high enough to cause your body to actually store fat rather than burn it. So if you want to burn fat at the fastest rate the goal has to be to keep your insulin levels low even after breaking your fast. We can do that by understanding some basic principles and then making a decision on what to eat during your feeding window around those key concepts. First let's get the obvious out of the way.... sweets, processed foods, and junk food will spike your insulin levels the highest while providing the lowest amount of nutrients. So if you want to burn fat faster after breaking your fast stick only to real wholesome single ingredient foods. Most of these foods you'll find by sticking to the outside aisles of your local grocery store or supermarket while avoiding the inner aisles. Next you have to know that carbohydrates have the biggest impact on your insulin levels, certain types of dairy have equally as big of an impact, other sources of protein have a moderate impact, and fat has the smallest impact. By not overindulging in carbohydrates and dairy after breaking your fast you'll already be miles ahead of most people. Since fasting is supposed to be a flexible dieting structure, I don't want you to restrict your carbs or dairy to nothing. In fact by doing that it'll probably make you want to have them even more. Instead I want you to break your fast with a large serving of vegetables in order to fill your stomach up and take the edge off your hunger. Then move on to your protein & fat sources, and then if you're still hungry you can move on to some low glycemic carbohydrates & dairy. This will allow you to limit your insulin spikes during your feeding window without actually thinking about it & without restrictions. Let's move on to the second way to burn fat faster that goes hand in hand with the first tip we just went over. I'm talking about keto fasting. Keto fasting is a combination of the ketogenic diet & fasting. This will make your diet a little less flexible because you will have to adhere to a certrain macronutrient split, but it's an incredibly effective way to speed up the amount of fat lost from fasting. Here you would start by setting up a regular intermittent fasting & feeding window. An common example would be to break your fast at 1 o clock & then switch back to fasting at 9 o clock. But during that 8 hour feeding window, with this method you'll actually want to keep your carbohydrate consumption under only 5 to 10 percent of your total daily caloric intake. This means no grains, no starchy veggies, & only berries for your fruit. You'll also want to keep your protein intake right around 15 to 20 percent of your daily intake because remember protein is also insulinogenic, & your fat should be around 75 percent of your total calories. Mobile apps are turning smartphones into a personal doctors, with users able to measure heart rate, blood pressure and even blood sugar. But will it change our behaviour? Full Story: Going for a run will never quite be the same again. That's if you're wearing one of these. The Fitbit Surge - a wireless device that measures heart rate, calories, distance and quality of sleep. Fitbit's Europe VP Gareth Jones. [Gareth Jones, EMEA VP Fitbit]: "They've already done 14,000 steps, they've done 10 kilometres. It might even be this lady on the treadmill. But you can see it's picking up every step, it's picking up every time she moves, and it's picking it up real time." Unlike many other wearables, this doesn't need a chest strap. Instead, tiny LEDs measure the flow of blood through the body. The information then transmitted to an app. It's not just fitness benefiting from advances in the mobile sector. It's healthcare too. Paul Zollinger-Reed is chief medical officer at BUPA. [Dr Paul Zollinger-Reed, Chief Medical Officer, BUPA]: "What we're starting to see with these sorts of devices that monitor your functions. We're starting to be able to tell disease before you ever get it. So we're shifting from a 'patch you up' to an 'understand your risks, and manage those risks', so essentially a wellness society. That's a huge transformation." This app measures blood pressure. While Google are developing contact lenses to detect blood sugar. The real-time data transforming your phone into a virtual doctor. The challenge now is to change behaviour. For Swiss firm Hocoma, the answer is gamification. Its Valedo gadget monitors posture through sensors stuck to the chest and lower back. It recommends exercises through a video game. A bluetooth connection monitoring the body's movements to within 1 degrees. Product Manager Robert Mackenzie. [Robert Mackenzie, Product Manager, Hocoma]: "People usually spend hundreds to thousands of dollars each year anyway by themselves trying to fix this problem through surgery or medication or whatever. and many of these solutions don't work for everybody so this is an alternative to make it measurable and fun to do these exercises." Fitbit also use the gaming model providing challenges for multiple users. The phrase 'wearing your heart on your sleeve' suddenly has a whole new meaning.
