Dr. David Samadi - Study: Fish oil linked to prostate cancer Millions of American men take fish oil dietary supplements that are abundant with Omega-3 to improve overall health, reduce cholesterol and heart disease risks, and other benefits. A new study links large fish oil consumption with an increased risk of developing lethal prostate cancer. Men that take fish oil supplements should consider it a medication and the daily dosage amounts should be discussed with a doctor. Normal fish oil dosages can improve a man's health; however, high dosages can lead to prostate cancer. Watch the video to learn more about safely incorporating fish oil with Omega-3 in your diet. Prostate cancer and Fish oil: Truth or fiction

04:03
The SELECT trial looked at supplementing men with either selenium or vitamin E to decrease the risk of prostate cancer. The trial was stopped early when it appeared that those men that took extra vitamin E actually had MORE prostate cancer. After stopping the trial, the men were followed for 3 more years, and the men that developed prostate cancer were added to the numbers, and a growing number of men in the vitamin E arm developed prostate cancer. At that point the data appeared to confirm a link between taking extra vitamin E and developing high grade prostate cancer. Where it becomes interesting is that they monitored blood levels of omega 3 fatty acids as well. They were not given fish oil as a supplement. The men who had the more aggressive types of cancer tended to have higher blood levels of Omega 3 in their blood. The blood levels did not correlate with their intake. The huge jump was made that omega 3 fish oil caused prostate cancer. Asians and Pacific Islanders tend to as an ethnicity, to have the lowest rate of prostate cancer, and have the highest fish intake. How could dietary fish oil then, increase the risk of cancer. If, indeed, there is a link between prostate cancer and omega 3 blood levels, then perhaps, high omega 3 levels may be a marker for, not a cause of prostate cancer. Elevated PSA blood levels is a marker for prostate cancer. No one has ever supposed if you ingested PSA it would cause cancer. It is something that rises in the presence of cancer, and is used as a screening tool. Perhaps, one day we will do blood levels of omega 3s, and if there is a rise, not related to dietary intake changes, then we might look for prostate cancer???

Best Vitamins for Prostate Health – Dr. David Samadi

04:11
Dr. David Samadi states why he consumes a multivitamin daily & the importance of a multivitamin for general health & prostate health. Especially, older men should consider preventing inflammation, prostate health & heart health by consuming lycopene & zinc, flax seeds & fish oil which helps men lower their triglycerides. Coenzyme Q10 is also of importance when it comes to reducing bad cholesterol. Studies indicate that getting enough Vitamin D may help prevent prostate cancer, breast cancer & colon cancer. Dr. David Samadi states “those who watch their eating habits and nutritional intake, exercise regularly, and get appropriate amounts of sun, a multi-vitamin is not a necessity”. However, for many people, always eating healthy is a difficult task and a multi-vitamin is beneficial as a preventative measure. _________________________________________________________________ Dr. David Samadi is the Chairman of Urology & Robotics Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. Do Fish Oils Cause Prostate Cancer?

http://www.HugoRivera.net - Do Fish Oils Cause Prostate Cancer? Sign up to my newsletter and get a FR E E ebook for gaining muscle while losing fat here: http://www.hugorivera.net/freemusclebuildinginfo Is there really a correlation between fish oils and prostate cancer? Some study claims so. However, the key thing to understand is that this is an epidimeological study. This is a correlational stufy...it looks at things that people eat and gathers a whole bunch of data and tries to make a correlation. So this is not a biological study that took a whole bunch of prostate cells and studied the effects of fish oil supplementation. While I am not stating that this study is invalid, I just want to make it clear that the results are based on statistical data gathering as opposed to a biological in vitro or in vivo study. Based on the fact that there is a huge amount of evidence pointing to the safety and efficacy of fish oils, we have to be careful with making a decision to drop the fish oils out from our diet. Especially considering the fact that there is tons of scientific evidence pointing to the positive effects of fish oils in regards to insulin sensitivity, brain function, joint function, fat burning, hormonal production, etc. Also keep in mind that every single food you consume (and supplement) probably has a study out there that may link it to some sort of disease. Heck, you can even link breathing air to cancer but I don't think any of us will stop to breathe any time soon. Thus, always weigh out the various studies and the benefit that a food or supplement will offer you. If the positive outweighs the negatives keep it in your diet. When it comes to fish oils I certainly feel that the benefits completely outweigh the results of this one statistical correlational study. 6 Foods For Prostate Health

Follow us on Twitter: @foods4health1 Recipes4Health: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2bZhXBHIb51n1fE3VWPmcQ/videos To learn more about the health benefits of food, visit: http://www.benefitsoffood.blogspot.com The prostate serves several functions in the body and is an integral part of the male reproductive system. As men age, it is important that prostate health is maintained, especially since prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. Eating a balanced diet can help to maintain overall health as we age, and more importantly, may also help to promote a health prostate. Lets discuss some foods that can help to boost the health of your prostate and enhance its overall functioning. 1. First, we have discussed the importance of antioxidants and how they can promote your overall health a number of different ways in many videos. This makes berries, such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries especially important when it comes to the health of your prostate. They are loaded with health promoting antioxidants and are a great source of vitamin C. These healthy berries work to eliminate free radicals in the body and help to prevent any damage caused by them. This helps to maintain the health of our cells and also ease symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, a more common prostate condition. As well, they can promote urination and reduce swelling. 2. Brazil nuts are also great for our prostate. They are a very good source of vitamin E, selenium and calcium. They are also packed with healthy fats that can lower cholesterol and keep our bodies healthy and functioning properly. Some initial studies suggest that the selenium found in brazil nuts can be beneficial for the health of our prostate, and may even help with prostate cancer. Try not to over eat brazil nuts however since they are high in calories and just one brazil nut has over 100 percent of the daily recommended value of selenium. 3. Fatty fish such as salmon can also help with prostate health. This is largely due to the presence of omega-3 fatty acids which is found in salmon. Unlike other fats, such as saturated and trans fats, omega-3s have been shown to actually help increase the health of the prostate and promote its proper functioning. As well, omega-3 fatty acids may even help to lower the risk of prostate cancer, likely due to the anti-inflammatory effects they contain. 4. Beans are not only a healthy alternative to processed meats and loaded with many different nutrients, but they are also beneficial for prostate health. It isn’t just the wide range of nutrients found in many types of beans that make them great for prostate health, but also their high amounts of fibre. Adequate fibre intake has been linked to prostate health promotion. As well, they are loaded with protein and make an excellent addition for anyone looking to eat a more balanced and healthy diet. 5. You can also try pomegranate juice to boost the overall health of your prostate. Like strawberries and blueberries, pomegranate is an excellent source of antioxidants and has even been described as a “miracle fruit” due to its ability to help fight oxidative stress. Preliminary research has found pomegranate to help reduce the risk of cancer, such as prostate cancer, while also promoting the health of our cells. 6. Lastly, often thought of as a refreshing fruit in the summer months, watermelon may actually be abel to help boost the overall health of the prostate. This is because it is an excellent source of both vitamin A and vitamin C. Perhaps even more important for prostate health, watermelon is a great source of lycopene, a great antioxidants that may help to lower the risk of prostate cancer. Due to these health promoting effects of lycopene, other foods such as tomatoes and pink grapefruit may also be healthy for our prostate. When it comes to prostate health and prostate cancer treatment and prevention, always discuss with your medical practitioner for further treatment and prevention plans. Prostate Cancer - Fish Oil Prevents Prostate Cancer or It Is a Hype

05:46
http://www.nutritionforest.com/omega-3-fish-oil.html http://www.nutritionforest.com Nutrition Forest Enteric Coated Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg Deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids makes our body susceptible to the risk of many diseases. Omega 3 fatty acids provide myriad benefits to us which we can’t absorb by consumption of our staple food only. Many people have fish to recover the deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids. But unfortunately they become prey to several other diseases because maximum fish are affected by industrial toxics. Knowing deep about the importance of Omega 3 fatty acids for health, Nutrition Forest provides Enteric Coated Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg softgel. Each softgel are enteric coated because it helps to inhibit its dissolution and disintegration in the gastric environment. They pass undissolved through the stomach into the intestinal tract where they get broken down. This way these softgels don’t leave fishy taste in mouth unlike uncoated fish oil softgel. Enteric Coated Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg has several benefits. These softgels help toprevent cardiovascular disease, support normal blood pressure, prevent skin inflammation, improve brain function and many more. Enteric Coated Omega Fish Oil softgels contain the finest oil. Molecular distillation method is used to remove all toxins and other impurities. This method is better than all other methods of eliminating impurities from fish oil because it ensures the quality of fish oil and guarantees that no Trans Fats are created. Why Take Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg There are many benefits of fish oil, but there are the top 5 most scientifically proven effects. 1. ADHD – The University of South Australia has determined that a combination of fish oil and evening primrose oil capsules can help reduce common symptoms of ADHD: inattention, hyperactivity, restlessness and impulsive behavior. According to the researchers, “Fish oil is believed to work via its effects on brain function. 60% of the brain is composed of fats, with the most important being polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These must be obtained through diet and can be found in dark leafy vegetables, walnuts, linseeds and oily fish.” 2. Anxiety – The European Journal of Neuroscience recently published a study earlier this year showing that fish oil reversed all anxiety-like and depression-like behavior changes induced in rats. This is an interesting study because it stresses the importance of supplementing with fish oil at “critical periods of brain development,” which is why we should give it to our kids from early on to help them so that they will not develop anxiety or depression later in life! 3. Arthritis – An 18-month long study was published this year, which evaluated how borage seed oil – rich in GLA – and fish oil rich fared up against each other in treating patients with rheumatoid arthritis. It was discovered that all three groups (1 taking fish oil, 1 taking borage seed, and 1 taking a combination of the two) “exhibited significant reductions” in disease activity and no therapy outperformed the others. This is critical to emphasize because taking too many supplements are simply a waste of money. 4. Alzheimer’s Disease – For several years now, the fish oil and Alzheimer’s Disease connection has been studied with consistent results: the essential fatty acids vital for brain function that are found in fish oil can not only slow cognitive decline, it can help prevent bran atrophy in older adults. 5. Cancer – Fish oil has been found to help kill various cancers including colon, prostate and breast. Not only has research proven that it makes conventional cancer drugs more effective, it’s also an effective standalone therapy! fish oil benefits cod liver oil benefits benefits of fish oil fish oil side effects fish oil dosage omegas fish oil weight loss epa and dha side effects of fish oil oil fish is fish oil good for you epa fish oil benefits of fish oil pills fish oil benefit fish oil capsules benefits fish oil benefits for women fish oil pills benefits benefits of taking fish oil health benefits of fish oil what are the benefits of fish oil what is fish oil benefit of fish oil benefits of fish oil supplements fish oil reviews fish oil health benefits how much fish oil fish oil and weight loss epa fatty acid

[TRUTH] Fish Oil And Prostate Cancer - Does Fish Oil Cause or Is Linked to Prostate Cancer Risk?

06:14
http://selectfishoil.com The Truth About The Study That Claimed Taking Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements Cause Prostate Cancer In Men.... If you are keeping up with the current news, you may be aware that an article came out recently that suggests there is link between elevated plasma omega-3 fatty acid levels and an increased risk of prostate cancer (Journal of the National Cancer Institute - July 2013). Naturally, the media circulated many headlines telling the general public that "fish oils may raise prostate cancer risks, study confirms." Allow me to clarify a few important notes for you regarding this study. You know me well enough by now to know that health has to make common sense! So does research... a) One might assume that this study occurred to evaluate the risk of prostate cancer in men taking fish oil supplements. It did not. In fact, the study didn't even look at fish oil supplements in any of their participants! The initial intended treatments were Selenium and Vitamin E. There is no documentation of fish oil or dietary fish intake at the beginning, middle, or end of the study. One cannot draw conclusions about supplement use when the question was never even asked or documented. b) Also of concern were the comments made by the lead researcher in a press release quoted as saying "We've shown once again that use of nutritional supplements may be harmful," hinting at a strong bias of the researchers themselves. c) The measure taken of omega 3's in the blood was done by "plasma phospholipid levels" which are not a good long term marker of omega 3 levels at all - the levels can vary dramatically within a 48 hour period based on meal or supplement consumption. In my office, I would rarely use this type of test because it's too narrow. It views one moment in time. I order the "erythrocyte" method of testing because it gives a better long-term picture. d) The increased prostate cancer risks they ascribe to men who consume large amounts of omega-3 is based on a level of 4.66% in the cancer group, versus a level of 4.48% in the control group. Formulating nutritional products of the highest efficacy requires impeccable solid research. It seems clear the researchers from this study extrapolated the findings far beyond what the data could support and failed to supply adequate context around their findings. dha and prostate cancer does dha cause prostate cancer does fish oil cause prostate cancer does omega 3 cause prostate cance fish oil and prostate cancer fish oil and prostate cancer risk fish oil and prostate cancer risk study fish oil and prostate cancer study fish oil cause prostate cancer fish oil linked to prostate cancer fish oil prostate fish oil prostate cancer omega 3 aggressive prostate cancer omega 3 fatty acids prostate cancer risk prostate cancer and omega 3 fatty acids Thousands of legitimate studies over the past 30 years have been published supporting the many benefits of omega-3's. Fish Oil and Prostate Cancer Risk

02:08
A recent study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute revealed that men with prostate cancer had a higher level of omega 3 fatty acids in their blood compared to men with out cancer. The study did not look at diet intake or supplement use in these men and does not prove that high omega 3 levels or fish oil intake causes the cancer. Bottom line... if you and your doctor have determined that taking fish oil is good for your health then keep taking it.

Fish Oil Gives You Cancer OR Is It Healthy?

01:19
Fish Oil Gives You Cancer OR Is It Healthy? Read below for more info http://www.timescolonist.com/life/fis... SEATTLE — Taking fish-oil supplements or even eating too much fatty fish may be linked to an increased risk for prostate cancer, according to a new study from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. The result confirms findings from an earlier study by the same team, but they are puzzling, given fish oil's supposed anti-inflammatory effect, which would protect against cancer. Researchers could not offer a biological reason for the link, and called for more study. The study analyzed levels of omega-3 fatty acids — the type of oil found in some fish — in the blood of 834 men who developed prostate cancer race- and age-matched with 1,393 men who did not. Men who had the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids had a 43 per cent increase in risk for prostate cancer and 71 per cent increase in risk for the high-grade prostate cancer that is the most likely to be fatal. These results were published online Wednesday by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Researchers affiliated with institutions including the University of Washington, the National Cancer Institute and Cleveland Clinic were also involved. An initial 2011 study, which found similar results in a different group of men, surprised epidemiology professor Alan Kristal's team at the Seattle research centre. "To be honest, I didn't believe it," Kristal said last week. "It was striking enough to get it into the literature just to see if anyone would repeat it." The team's most recent study — and another European study — confirmed the earlier findings. The newest data come from a study whose initial goal, when it began in 2001, was investigating the roles of selenium and vitamin E in prostate cancer. Researchers collected blood samples from study subjects, who were not given dietary instructions for omega-3 intake. The highest blood levels of three omega-3 fatty acids — EPA, DPA and DHA — were consistent with taking fish-oil supplements or eating at least three servings of fish per week. Those men with the highest levels were the most likely to eventually be diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, Kristal notes that different people can have somewhat different levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood despite similar intake. The link between prostate cancer and eating fatty fish or taking fish-oil supplements is far from clear. Other studies have found a protective effect, though a large analysis of many studies found that fish oil had no compelling effect on cancer risk in general Edward Giovannucci of the Harvard School of Public Health, who was not involved in the study, noted in an email that this study looked at diagnosis but not patient outcomes. Prostate cancers can lie dormant for decades, and the risk factors for developing a tumour may not be the same as those that cause a tumour to become fatal. The researchers conceded they did not know of a biological mechanism to explain their findings. "If there were a compelling mechanism, that would make the findings more worrisome," added Giovannucci. Nevertheless, Kristal said his study should make men think twice about taking fish-oil supplements or eating more than two servings of fish per week. Omega-3 fatty-acid supplements and enriched foods account for more than $5 billion in sales every year, according to a market-research report from Packaged Facts. Kristal emphasizes that his study casts doubt on the health effect of dietary supplements such as fish oil and vitamins. In the same study, researchers had previously found that vitamin E was also linked to increased risk for prostate cancer. "Humans are designed for a certain level of micronutrients, and huge doses may not be good," Kristal said. "More micronutrients does not mean better health and sometimes means worse."

Eat These 7 Foods to Help Prevent Prostate Cancer

03:58
Prostate cancer affects men more than any other kind of cancer. Almost 15% of men in the US suffer from it—a disproportionate number that could be significantly reduced. Some of the symptoms that accompany prostate cancer include: loss of bladder control, blood present in urine, and a burning sensation during urination. Studies show that a diet high in saturated fats, as well as being overweight increase the risk of prostate cancer. In fact, more and more doctors are learning that a definite link exists between the foods we eat and the risk of cancer. These foods can be beneficial to anyone with a high risk of cancer: 1. Fresh Fish 2. Greens 3. Tomatoes 4. Coffee 5. Nuts 6. Pomegranates 7. Orange Vegetables Eating these foods can cut down on the risk of prostate cancer, but they can also have a positive effect on both a man’s waistline and his overall quality of life. PROSTATE CANCER Natural Ways To Kill Prostate Cancer

11:40
PROSTATE CANCER Natural Ways To Kill Prostate Cancer. There are some incredibly powerful natural cures for prostate cancer and prostatitis, including the use of various medicinal herbs. Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne pepper is actually considered a fruit more than a herb or spice, but regardless, it's one heck of a powerful prostate cancer killer! An article published in Reuters back in 2006 confirms this... "Capsaicin (contained in cayenne pepper) had a profound anti-proliferative effect on human prostate cancer cells in culture. It caused 80% of the prostate cancer cells growing in mice to commit suicide in a process known as apoptosis". By Dr Soren Lehmann of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr Lehmann is not alone in his findings either. Japanese researchers have also found that cayenne pepper significantly slows the development of prostate cancer cells in vitro. Vitamin D is one of the most remarkable natural cures for prostate cancer yet discovered. Find out why you need plenty of the "sunshine vitamin" if you really want to beat this disease... Omega-3's are exceptional natural cures for prostate cancer. A Swedish study has found a strong connection between omega-3 consumption from fish oil and flaxseed's, and a reduced risk of both the incidence and death rate of prostate cancer. The results of the study were presented at the annual meeting for the American Association for Cancer Research..

HealthAlert: Fish Oil Linked to Prostate Cancer???

04:06
The media and health circles are abuzz with a recently published study that reportedly links intake of fish oil and a higher risk of prostate cancer. Before we ignore years of clinical research and a mountain of studies supporting the remarkable health benefits (including anti-cancer properties) of Omega-3 and fish oil, let's look more closely. As a leading health researcher and author of three books on diet, nutrition, and performance, I've learned that healthy skepticism is important when analyzing medical studies and evaluating the subsequent reporting in the news.

Dr. David Samadi - Prevent Prostate Cancer With Prostate Friendly Food

02:49
According to Dr. David Samadi, millions of men are taking multivitamins & prostate health supplements daily. However, natural food, fruits & vegetables is still the best available option. In this video Dr. Samadi explores the top food for prostate cancer prevention. • Tomatoes Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes, may be beneficial in the prevention of prostate cancer and reducing tumor growth among men with prostate cancer. Studies have found that men who ate a lot of raw tomato and cooked tomato products were less likely to develop prostate cancer compared with men who rarely ate such foods. • Broccoli Several studies have demonstrated a lower chance of developing prostate cancer among men who eat large amounts of broccoli or other cruciferous vegetables. Could be due to one of the phytochemicals found in these vegetables, called sulforaphane, selectively targets and kills cancer cells while leaving normal prostate cells healthy and unaffected.Green tea • Green Tea Components of green tea such as catechin, EGCG and epicatechin are all being studied for their effects on health. There is some evidence to support that these polyphenolic compounds may prevent the development of prostate cancer. • Soybean Legumes such as beans, peanuts and lentils all contain biologically active plant compounds known as phytoestrogens. Isoflavones, a phytoestrogen, may contain cancer-fighting properties, which suppress tumor growth in prostate cancer cells. • Pomegranate Much like red wine or green tea, pomegranate is a rich source of antioxidants. In a small study investigators found that drinking 8oz of pomegranate juice delayed the rise in PSA levels and increased the doubling time from 15 months to 54 months. Compounds in pomegranate fruit may exclusively target the prostate cancer cells and destroy them. • Salmon Polyunsaturated fats, like omega-3s and omega-6s, are essential fatty acids found exclusively in the diet and not synthesized by the body. Having a balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may help prevent the development and progression of prostate cancer. Unfortunately, the traditional Western diet has lot of omega-6 fatty acids, but minimal omega-3s. In a Swedish study which followed men for over 30 years, researchers reported that those men who ate no fish were two to three times more likely to develop prostate cancer than men who consumed large amounts of fish in their diet. To increase your omega-3 intake, try eating fatty fish found in cold waters such as salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines or trout. _________________________________________________________________ Dr. David Samadi is the Chairman of Urology & Robotics Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. Foods High In Omega 3 - Fish oil Prevents Prostate Cancer - Study Says

07:01
http://www.nutritionforest.com/omega-3-fish-oil.html http://www.nutritionforest.com Nutrition Forest Enteric Coated Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000mg Deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids makes our body susceptible to the risk of many diseases.

In July of 2013, a "scientifically weak" study was released, concluding that omega 3 fatty acids may cause prostate cancer. Researchers even said: "consuming fish itself may be dangerous." Media right around the world reported on the study, swallowing it hook, line, and sinker, and sparking concern amongst the world population. Dayne Hudson from Fit'n'Flexed speaks to Dr Anthony Victor D'Amico, head of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School, to debunk the myths that have arisen in response to this poorly designed study.

9 NATURAL CURES for PROSTATE CANCER! HOW to Prevent PROSTATE CANCER? Miracle Cures For Cancer in Man

10:41
9 Foods That Help Prevent Prostate Cancer! NATURAL CURES for PROSTATE CANCER in Men. If you want to do all you can to prevent prostate cancer, your first stop should be the grocery store, a top expert says. “There are foods that contain nutrients which have been found to help prevent prostate cancer so what you eat may help make a difference,” Dr. Edward Gheiler said. Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in men. According to the American Cancer Society, about 161,360 men will develop prostate cancer this year, and the disease will result in about 26,730 deaths. Eating a healthy diet that contains foods that reduce prostate cancer also pays off in helping to prevent cardiovascular disease – heart disease and stroke – which is the biggest killer of men in the U.S., Gheiler notes. “Any diet that is good for your heart is good for your prostate, so you can help prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer at the same time,” adds Gheiler, an urologist at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Fla. He also advises patients to eat a diet that is low in fat, which is a culprit in cardiovascular disease and plays a role in cancer development as well. There is also evidence of a dietary connection between cancer and diet found in the differing rates of the disease in certain cultures, Gheiler says. “The Japanese have low rates of prostate cancer, but when they move to the U.S., the rate in their offspring doubles,” he notes. The Japanese diet is high in green tea, soy, vegetables, and fish. Whole, fresh foods, as compared to supplements, are better for prostate cancer prevention as they contain an array of flavonoids and antioxidants, which may work together to provide more cancer-fighting power, says Gheiler. “But even though these foods are healthy, people should avoid eating them in large quantities. A healthy, balanced diet is best,” he says. Here are Gheiler's top picks for nine foods that may prevent prostate cancer: Broccoli: Research finds men who eat a diet rich in vegetables generally have a reduced prostate cancer risk, but cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, may have an edge. They are rich in contain sulforaphane, a compound that target human cancer cells and slows them down. Don’t like broccoli? Brussels sprouts, kale, and cauliflower contain it too. Brazil Nuts: Selenium helps prevent the cellular damage that leads to cancer. Brazil nuts contain the most of it of any food by far, but smaller amounts of this trace element are also found in yellow fin tuna, halibut, and sardines. Tomatoes: Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes, could explain why studies show foods made with tomatoes reduce prostate cancer risk. “This cancer-fighting effect is found only in cooked tomatoes, so choose tomato sauce over raw tomatoes,” says Gheiler. Salmon: A cold-water fish, salmon is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated fats that have been shown to reduce prostate cancer risk. Coffee: Studies find that drinking multiple cups of coffee daily – at least three – may reduce prostate cancer risk. “The effect may be due to stepped up metabolism,” says Gheiler. If you prefer green tea, research finds it also may help protect against prostate cancer. Carrots: While all vegetables may help prevent prostate cancer, a small study published in the Journal of European Nutrition found that men who ate carrots three times a week cut their prostate cancer risk by nearly 20 percent. Oranges: Citrus fruits contain vitamin C, which some studies find is toxic to cancer cells. Coconut Oil: This popular oil may help prevent prostate cancer. “It’s also good for the brain and it takes away food cravings,” says Gheiler. Berries: Berries, particularly raspberries, have been linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. The natural pigments that give berries its color denote their high antioxidant content.

Fish Oil Causes Cancer???!

More than meets the eye to recent controversy over omega-3 levels and prostate cancer risk—Lets take a closer look Hector Lopez, MD, CSCS, FAAPMR A large-scale prospective case-cohort study evaluating plasma fatty acid levels and prostate cancer risk, published in JNCI (Journal of the National Cancer Institute) online ahead of print on July 10th, 2013 has created quite the stir amongst media, health care professionals, nutrition researchers, and the dietary supplement industry...Again! To quote the great Yogi Berra, "It's like déjà vu, all over again." This recent study was led by Drs. Alan Kristal from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Theodore Brasky of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in the USA as a follow up to their 2011 study. This new study analyzed data and blood plasma phospholipid status from men who participated in the SELECT (Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial) trial from 427 participating sites across Europe, USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. Blood was analyzed for 834 "cases" diagnosed with prostate cancer (156 of which were high-grade), and an age-matched subcohort, comparison group of 1,393 all of which were selected from the 35,533 participants. Without going into an in depth review of the study (beyond the scope or goal of this post), the men with the highest blood plasma levels of the long-chain omega-3 PUFAs (EPA, DPA, and DHA) were associated with increased risk for low-grade, high-grade and total prostate cancer (44%, 71% and 43% increased risk, respectively). Intriguingly, a higher omega-6 level (Linoleic acid) was associated with reduced risk of low-grade and total prostate cancer, but there was no dose response relationship. The totality of evidence suggests there is no significant relationship (positive or negative) between omega-6 status and prostate health. What are the Signs and Symptoms of Prostate Cancer?

02:34
Find out the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer from Cancer Research UK. Learn how prostate cancer is diagnosed and the tests needed to find out. http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/prostate-cancer/symptoms In the video, Dr. Vincent Gnanapragasm from Cambridge University talks us through prostate cancer symptoms, signs and types: "As the most common cancer in men understanding Prostate Cancer is vital. So I’ve come to Cambridge University hospital to speak with Dr. Vincent Gnanapragasam to find out how they go about diagnosing this common cancer. Well Vincent, Prostate Cancer is notoriously difficult to diagnose isn’t it. Indeed, in fact Prostate Cancer most often has no symptoms. A man might go to his GP because he has notice a change in his urinary symptoms, getting up at night maybe or having difficulty passing water. And most often that’s due to a normal enlargement of the prostate as he gets older. In fact prostate cancer doesn’t cause any symptoms unless it is very advanced. In which case it might mimic some of those symptoms of an obstructed or large prostate. But if there are any concerns the first step is to go and see your GP who can then investigate further. What would your GP do? - Take a history - Do a physical examination - PSA blood test So what would your GP do? Most often they’ll take a history from you, do an examination of the prostate and do a PSA blood test. What is a PSA test? So PSA stand for Prostate Specific Antigene. It’s produced by the prostate gland and it’s a marker for the presence of Prostate Cancer. However it can also be raised by other conditions so it’s not a very specific marker but it’s the first test that we can do to see whether we should proceed to further investigations. What is a PSA test? A blood test that measures the amount of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. So what happens if you get sent to the hospital for an examination? The specialist will see you, again take a history and an examination and then most often what they will do is arrange a prostate biopsy. Increasingly they might recommend a scan to be done first, an MRI scan and then discuss with you what the best way to do a biopsy is. What is a Biopsy? The removal of a small sample of tissue for examination to determine the presence or extent of a disease. And if it is cancer tell us what happens then, tell us about some of the tests. Well, a discussion then starts. The first step is to make sure we know exactly what kind of Cancer it is and that might involve other types of scans, for example a CT scan or a bone scan. The kind of Cancer is determined by the size of it or the stage of a cancer. And once the specialist puts all that information together with what the biopsy has shown then they start to discuss with you what the treatments are."

Gary Shultz spends his free time as a bass fishing guide at Lake of the Ozarks. He never imagined retirement would also include a battle with prostate cancer. “I felt fine. I was coaching and fishing. I had an active lifestyle. Nothing was bothering me, and bam, I’ve got it,” Shultz said. Like Shultz, one in nine American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Manage Your PSA Naturally (Prostrate Cancer)

06:02
A short video that describes how I manage and have actually lowered my PSA. Additional products used or protocols tried not noted in video: Baking Soda Protocol (staying Alkaline through diet or other is key!!!), LiPH Solutions Ultimate PH Balance, Impower ER AHCC extended release, Avemar (Metatrol) fermented wheatgerm extract. Also, the Apricot Seeds should be: raw/bitter. Aside from diet, exercise/strength-training is very important. I can't emphasize enough to try things I've suggested in stages and make sure if you are taking other medications that you consult with your doctor first. This is by no means something that should be used in place of conventional treatment, but should be considered to augment it to ensure the best possible outcome. It is also vital to get second opinions and do your own research so you can have a good dialogue with your doctor, but keep in mind that some doctors may put immense pressure on you to follow a certain course of action with your treatment which may or may not be in your best interest and talk down alternative approaches. Do not let stats scare you - in my experience stats tend to be outdated and do not always factor in new advances in treatment, which is always improving. Best to you and stay strong! Note: I misspoke when I stated hormone treatment is to manage pain - actually when the cancer has spread into the bone it can be very painful and hormone treatment will get it to abate some, but it is my understanding that it is not a cure and over time cancer will become resistant and return. Hormone treatment blocks testosterone which can cause an obvious host of issues, so I'm opting to forgo that for now. Recent update: I have decided to go to a different Oncologist who is part of UCLA and feel I'm in very good hands. I had a follow-up bone scan which showed no notable change and my PSA remains at 10. This is wonderful news and makes me confident that I can stall this insidious disease and hopefully reverse it using a natural approach.
