A learning organization encourages personal mastery and cultivates open feedback to see problems and opportunities on all levels. Some argue that learning organizations attract and retain more talents. Others say that there is a competitive advantage for an organization whose people learn faster than the people of other organizations. Here are 6 characteristics most have in common: They Cherish: An Open Culture. Learning organizations encourage everyone to share information, admit to mistakes and practice giving and taking constructive criticism. Once the problem is found, they try to understand its root cause and fix it. To achieve such a culture: walls are removed, information is shared and leaders show their human sides. They Design and Implement: Feedback Loops Some establish 360 degrees surveys, in which people assess themselves, their peers and their bosses. Employees at 5-star hotels ask guests for their opinions. Top schools may videotape teachers so they can later study themselves. Some even make feedback a team effort. Before any new project, they all get together to kick things off. After the project they meet again to share and reflect on what has happened. They Promote: Personal Mastery Employees try to achieve personal mastery in their fields. Once they become experts, they feel proud of their work, they are motivated intrinsically and they can create positive change wherever they are. For example, a cleaner might come up with an idea on how to save water and an accountant on how to save bank fees. The job of the boss is to connect all experts and give directions. They Plan for: Intelligent Fast Failure. When they build something new, they don’t spend time to make assumptions on paper. Instead, they create what’s called Minimum Viable Product, a simple prototype with only the core functions. This is then presented to users as early as possible to test what they think. Because it is imperfect, even friends give their honest opinions. The goal: fail fast, but collect intelligent information so you can improve while going forward. They Steal: Best Practices Picasso apparently said that "good artists borrow, great artists steal". Learning organizations study others, steal best practices and then implement them fast. The newspaper The Economists took advice from George Orwell; its editors never use jargon if everyday English works. Printing manufacturers stole the razor-and-blades business model from Gillette, selling printers cheap but ink expensive. They Cultivate: A Common Vision A learning organization prospers when all members share a common vision. That way employees can understand the importance of their role, connect the dots and develop systems thinking. When goals are clear, regulations can be reduced and people can create their own personal benchmarks of success. This reduces bureaucracy, authority and corruption. Salesmen and author Zig Ziglar once wrote: "the only thing worse than training people and having them leave, is not training them and having them stay." At a learning organization education happens as a side-product of working together, as everybody learns from each other to adapt to whatever the future might bring.

Peter Senge is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Sustainability at the MIT Sloan School of Management. The Journal of Business Strategy (September/October 1999) named Senge one of the 24 people who has had the greatest influence on business strategy over the last 100 years. The Financial Times (2000) named him one of the world’s top management gurus, andBusinessWeek (October 2001) rated Senge one of the top 10 management gurus. Senge has lectured extensively throughout the world, translating the abstract ideas of systems theory into tools for better understanding of economic and organizational change. He studies decentralizing the role of leadership in organizations so as to enhance the ability of employees to work productively toward common goals, and the managerial and institutional changes needed to build more sustainable enterprises—those businesses that foster social and natural as well as economic well-being. Senge’s work articulates a cornerstone position of human values in the workplace: namely, that vision, purpose, reflectiveness, and systems thinking are essential if organizations are to realize their potential. He has worked with leaders in business, education, civil society, healthcare, and government. Senge is the founding chair of the Society for Organizational Learning (SoL), a global community of corporations, researchers, and consultants dedicated to the “interdependent development of people and their institutions.” He is the author of the widely acclaimed book, The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of The Learning Organization (1990). With colleagues Charlotte Roberts, Rick Ross, Bryan Smith, and Art Kleiner, he is the co-author of The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook: Strategies and Tools for Building a Learning Organization (1994) and a second fieldbook The Dance of Change: The Challenges to Sustaining Momentum in Learning Organizations (March 1999), co-authored by George Roth. In September 2000, Senge co-authored a fieldbook on education, the award-winning Schools That Learn: A Fifth Discipline Fieldbook for Educators, Parents, and Everyone Who Cares About Education (2000). The Fifth Discipline hit a nerve within the business and education communities by introducing the theory of learning organizations. Since its publication, more than one million copies have been sold worldwide. In 1997, Harvard Business Review identified it as one of the seminal management books of the past 75 years. The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook was developed in response to questions from readers of The Fifth Discipline who wanted more help with tools, methods, and practical experiences in developing enhanced learning capabilities within their own companies. The Dance of Change is based on more recent experiences of companies developing learning capabilities over many years, and the strategies leaders develop to deal with the many challenges this work entails. He also has authored many articles published in both academic journals and the business press on systems thinking in management, and has co-authored Presence: Human Purpose and the Field of the Future. Senge holds a BS in engineering from Stanford University as well as an SM in social systems modeling and a PhD in management from MIT. #DESCRIPTION Peter Senge answers the question by first suggesting that “we jettison the jargon” and work on organizations where everyone works together successfully. He discusses how there are only two dominant factors within an organization: control or learning and the question is which one is dominant. He lays out the major factors that need to be present in order for an organization to be centered in learning. While not all of them are implemented at once (thank goodness!), I write all of them down (both ideas and projects that are currently being implemented) so I know what's going on at any given time. In this video, I show you my rainbow sticky note white board in my office that I use to track and manage all of the projects for Alejandra.tv. We call it our "Tetris Board" because, well, it kind of looks like a Tetris board if you stand back and look at it. I absolutely love this board because it's visual (I can SEE what's going on) and it's color-coded (I love things that are color-coded if you didn't know ;). FTC Disclaimer: The above link to the product is an affiliate link. The whiteboard shown in the video was given to me by the retailer after I asked them if I could do a video on their cool product after learning about it in 2009. The post-it notes I bought on my own (with the exception of the red and light pink ones (those came with the board!).

Self-management and self-organization are important themes in Agile software development, but what do they actually look like? We pontificate about worker empowerment, but then we revert to command-and-control: our product owners mandate project scope and deadlines, and our Scrum Masters assign tasks to team members. Why can’t we let teams be self-organized and workers be self-managed? These activity-based learning activities are kinesthetic learning games. Players learn by playing fun, physical games of movement. These games create a social atmosphere and a full body and mind experience that make it easy and fun to learn. We’ll play five games, including Line Up, 60 Paces, Triangles, Human Knot, and a special surprise game. In this session, we explore and experience self-management and self-organization via Agile games. You will leave with a deep internalized understanding of self-management and self-organization and an appreciation of how they work better than command-and-control. You’ll be able to share these games with your coworkers. Speakers:Richard Kasperowski, With Great People

Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high quality care to their Medicare patients. The goal of coordinated care is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors. When an ACO succeeds in both delivering high-quality care and spending health care dollars more wisely, it will create shared savings for the health system, health plans and patients. UCLA Health ACO has been recognized in the Becker's Hospital Review list of "100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know," which features some of the most advanced ACOs in the country. It’s spring cleaning here at the SBI Sales and Marketing Podcast, so today we’re joined by B2B sales wizard Tony Capucille, of Heartland Payment Systems, to discuss the pros and cons of the seven dominant sales organization models so you can get started planning your organizational structure and get on the path to hitting your numbers. There’s no one-size-fits-all model when it comes to organizational structure, so in addition to evaluating the pros & cons of each organizational development model, we’re also going to look at what types of organizations they’re best tailored to. For example, maybe you have some clear high priority accounts. If so, perhaps the stratification model, where you segment your accounts by earning and assign talent and resources accordingly, would fit you best. Perhaps you’d be better served by the hunter/farmer organizational structure, where you have a team dedicated to new business and one dedicated to growing your current accounts. Are you a company that focuses in B2B sales in a specific geographic area? The geographic model might be your ticket to success. Then there’s always the benefits of adopting a hybrid approach, like the organizational model, which offsets the strengths of one organizational structure with the strengths of another. Chances are, you’ll likely experiment with a few of these organizational development models before you find the one that best suits you, so what better place to start than here? Learn from the experience of one of the top B2B sales leaders out there to get started on finding the organizational structure that’ll get you to the numbers you need to hit. Ready to Make Your Number? If you want a copy of the workbook mentioned in this video, go to SalesBenchmarkIndex.com/2016-report to see the details of our six step revenue growth method, which covers market research, corporate strategy, product strategy, marketing strategy, sales strategy and talent strategy. If you have followed me on Instagram for a while, chances are you have heard me refer to my "Block Schedule System" many times. How to study effectively with 6 essential skills. Boost your study performance with strategies recommended by science - The ANSWER Method. These tips are for high school or university students preparing for exams or wanting to learn more effectively. For free downloadable posters about these six strategies for effective learning, click this link - https://www.dropbox.com/s/sofzb2m3sqzwvlv/6%20Strategies%20for%20Effective%20Learning.pdf?dl=1 This video is a collaboration between The Learning Scientists (http://www.learningscientists.org/) and Memorize Academy (https://www.memorize.academy). EXAMPLES of specific Elaboration questions from MATH You're studying calculus. The topic is “derivatives”. How do derivatives work? Well, they are the rate of the change. How does that work? You take a look at one point, then you take a look at a prior point, over some interval. And then you take the difference divided by the interval. As that interval approaches zero, you have the instantaneous rate of change. Why does this happen? Because “instantaneous” means that the interval is nothing. SCIENCE Imagine you are studying neural communication, maybe in a biology, neuroscience, or psychology class. How does neural communication work? If we look at one neuron, the dendrites receive messages from many other neurons, and then the messages converge in the soma. If there is enough of a positive charge within the soma, then an action potential will occur, and an electrical signal goes down the axon. When the signal reaches the terminal buttons, neurotransmitters release into the synapse where they communicate with the dendrites of the next neuron. Why does this happen? The neurotransmitters are chemicals that allow neurons to communicate with one another. The pattern of activation among different neurons (which neurons fire, how quickly, what neurotransmitters they release) determines the message in your brain. You might then ask, how does the axon work? The axon is a long tail-like structure that produces the electrical signal. How does the signal travel? The axon is covered in myelin sheath, a fatty substance that insulates the axon. The myelin sheath works like the rubber around the cord of an electrical appliance, and it serves to make the electricity travel faster. Why have myelin sheath? Because we need our neurons to be able to send signals fast, since we need to be able to react, make decisions, move quickly, perceive feeling in our skin instantly, etc. Make sure to compare ideas to learn how they are similar and different. For example, an axon and terminal buttons are both parts of a neuron; but, the axon sends an electrical signal while the terminal buttons release chemicals. Both Schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease are related to the neurotransmitter dopamine, but Schizophrenia is the result of too much dopamine while Parkinson’s disease is the result of too little dopamine. Also, try to make connections to your own memories or experiences, and compare ideas to learn how they are similar and different. We already made the connection from myelin sheath on axons to the rubber on cords to electrical appliances. Here is another example: a family member or close friend who suffers from Schizophrenia disease is suffering from too much dopamine. This means that too much dopamine is being released, by the terminal buttons, into the synapse. A doctor could give them a drug to reduce the dopamine in their brain, called a dopamine antagonist. If too much of this drug is used, the patient might begin developing symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. How would a dopamine antagonist work? … continue asking yourself elaborative questions! HISTORY Imagine you’re studying World War II, and the attack on Pearl Harbor. You could ask yourself, how did this attack happen? On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. The attack included Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes. Why did this happen? The Japanese intended to destroy the United States’ Pacific Fleet so that it could not interfere with Japanese operations. Here you could also ask another type of question: What was the result of this historic event? Well, Japanese casualties were light, while they damaged eight U.S. Navy battleships. The Arizona was among those that the Japanese sunk, and was not raised from the shallow water. U.S. aircrafts were also destroyed, and 2,403 Americans were killed (1,178 were injured). Why is this event important? The day after the attack, Roosevelt delivered his Infamy Speech, the United States declared war on Japan, and Japanese-Americans were then relocated to internment camps. You could then go on: how did the U.S. enter the war? How did the Pearl Harbor attack lead up to the release of the atomic bomb? How did the war end? And so on. There are so many ways to explain the idea and add details!

Let's learn about some tools and techniques of plan human resource management process in this PMP project management tutorial. First we will look into project Organization Charts and Position Descriptions. Various formats exist to document team member roles and responsibilities. Most of the formats fall into one of three types: hierarchical, matrix, or text-oriented. Regardless of the method utilized, the objective is to ensure that each work package has an unambiguous owner and that all team members have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. First we will look into the hierarchical model. In this model, The traditional organization chart structure can be used to show positions and relationships in a graphical, top-down format. the organizational breakdown structure (O BS) is arranged according to an organization’s existing departments, units, or teams with the project activities or work packages listed under each department. As shown in the example, the project organization is split into 3 reporting groups named, Hardware leader, software leader and product leader and the other reporting relationships are portrayed at below these roles. Next will look into RACI matrix. It is a grid that shows the project resources assigned to each work package. It is used to illustrate the connections between work packages or activities and project team members. In the example, R indicates responsible, A indicates accountable, C indicates consulted and I indicates informed. In some of the projects, simple text formats are used which has the details of roles, responsibilities, authority etc. Here a sample for that. let's move on to some interesting organizational theories. First we will look at McGregor’s Theory of X and Y. according to this theory, all the workers are fit into two categories. First one is theory X which states that, People should be watched every minute. People avoid work whenever possible. second theory is Theory Y which states that, People are willing to work without supervision , nd they want to achieve something. Next theory is maslows hierarchy of needs. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology, comprising a five tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. There are totally five levels and One must satisfy lower level deficit needs ,before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs. Here are the five levels from bottom of the pyramid to top. physiological, safety, love and belonging , esteem and self actualization. Next we will look into Herzberg theory. - This heory calls satisfiers as motivators and the dissatisfiers as hygiene factors - Using the term ""hygiene"" in the sense that they are considered maintenance factors that are necessary to avoid dissatisfaction but that by themselves do not provide satisfaction. As per this theory the hygine factors are, - Company policy - Supervision - Relationship with Boss - Work conditions - Salary - Relationship with Peers And motivators are, - Achievement - Recognition - Work itself - Responsibility - Advancement - Growth
