Child Care Marketing Solutions http://www.childcare-marketing.com/?p=2085 Childcare Marketing would like to send out their condolences to the people in Oklahoma affected by the tornadoes. We know it's been a tough time and we'd like to send our thoughts and prayers to those going through this difficult tragedy. These events present a time to reflect on unforeseen circumstances that can strike at our businesses and what we can do to prepare and protect ourselves. It's important for you as a child care business owner to have a plan, train your staff on the plan, and communicate the plan to parents. No business is insulated from the possibilities of disaster and having an emergency plan that you can communicate to parents gives you an advantage. This not only makes your child care business better equipped, but it can also be a great selling point! The emergency plan lets the parent know you are prepared and that you truly care about the security and safety of their children. It also lets them know they can trust you. Take some time to think about different emergency situations that could emerge at your business. There are various possibilities to think about during a general assessment -- the children, employees, facilities, security breaches, data backup, and more. It's helpful to get employees involved with this process and ask them of situations that they think could arise. They can take some time to do this during children's naps. Part of this general assessment also includes finding gaps in your emergency plan and taking the necessary steps to fix them! Write your emergency plan based on the different situations you have identified. Involve your staff in this as well. The more involved they are in the process, the more ownership they will take with the plan and the better trained they will be on the plan. You could also offer an incentive, such as a team building retreat, once the process of building an initial emergency plan is completed. Train your staff on the plans. This shouldn't be done only once. Set yourself a reminder to sit down with your staff and go over the safety plans on a routine basis. Every staff member needs to be empowered on what to do in an emergency situation, in case you aren't there. Most importantly, communicate the plan with parents! Most parents don't exactly know what they are looking for in a child care center. When giving tours, you have the opportunity to bring up not only the fact that you have a state of the art, secure facility but also that you have a great disaster team in your employees and written plans of action in the case of an emergency. You can even pull out the plan and show them, while also letting them know that every member of your staff has been trained on it. This will give parents just another reason to choose your facility over your competition! They sometimes provide emergency medical services, for example. The fire service, or fire and rescue service, also known in some countries as the fire brigade or fire department, is one of the main emergency services. Firefighting and firefighters have become ubiquitous around the world, from wildland areas to urban areas, and aboard ships. According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, the English word "firefighter" has been used since 1903. In recent decades it has become the preferred term, replacing the older "fireman", since many women serve as firefighters, and also because the term "fireman" can have other meanings, including someone who sets or stokes fires -- the opposite of the firefighting role. In many countries, firefighters may be employed as full-time workers and paid a salary. Additionally, there are volunteer firefighters (who are theoretically unpaid) and retained firefighters (or auxiliary firefighters, who are paid for the specific time they are on duty, i.e. permanent part-time career firefighters) on call as required. In such countries as the United Kingdom, the use of additional retained firefighters is standard. In Portugal, for example, the use of volunteer firefighters is standard, along with career firefighters. In Australia there are volunteer brigades which are mostly unpaid rural services, although traditionally they are paid by their employers if called out during usual working hours. The goals of firefighting are (in order of priority): personal safety, saving victims' lives, saving property, and protecting the environment... Firefighters work closely with other emergency response agencies, most particularly local and state police departments. As every fire scene is technically a crime scene until deemed otherwise by a qualified investigator, there is often overlap between the responsibilities of responding firefighters and police officers such as evidence and scene protection, initial observations of first respondents, and chain of evidence issues... Fire fighting has some basic skills: prevention, self-preservation, rescue, preservation of property, and fire control. Firefighting is further broken down into skills which include size-up, extinguishing, ventilation, salvage and overhaul. Wildland firefighting includes size up, containment, extiguishment, and mop up. Search and Rescue, which has already been mentioned, is performed early in any fire scenario and many times is in unison with extinguishing and ventilation... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_officer A police officer (also known as a policeman, cop, policewoman, and constable in some forces, particularly in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations) is a warranted employee of a police force. In the United States, "officer" is the formal name of the lowest police rank. In many other countries, "officer" is a generic term not specifying a particular rank, and the lowest rank is often "constable". In many other countries there is no such title as "police officer", as the use of the rank "officer" is legally reserved for military personnel only and thus not applicable. Police officers are generally charged with the apprehension of criminals and the prevention and detection of crime, and the maintenance of public order. Police officers may be sworn to an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time, along with other duties and powers. Some police officers may also be trained in special duties, such as counter-terrorism, surveillance, child protection, VIP protection, and investigation techniques into major crime, including fraud, rape, murder and drug trafficking...

When natural resources like timber, water and mineral deposits can be extracted from ecosystems, they become assets with dollar values that can be bought and sold internationally and enable developing countries to grow and participate in the global economy. If growth is the key to emerging from poverty, then this might seem like a good thing. But what if these same resources being sold to richer nations come from an ecosystem that people depend on for their livelihood? What if new growth is actually proportional to the creation of new poverty? The cult of 'growth' has dictated policy for decades. But if well-being, not growth, is our goal, selling resources that bring long term wellbeing to communities for short term gain is a very bad deal. Hard as it may be for the West to understand, protecting the ecological resources of communities might be more important than GDP figures. BRIDGMAN, Mich. -- A local festival that's been going strong for years had some major problems this past weekend. By Jenny Dolph By Judi Lykowski firstname.lastname@example.org Story Created: Jul 16, 2012 at 5:00 PM EDT Story Updated: Jul 16, 2012 at 9:16 PM EDT We learned there were several thefts, car break-ins, and even an assault. We went to Lake Street in Bridgman where the festival clean-up wrapped up Monday afternoon. A man who works for the city didn't want to go on camera, but he did allow us to interview him by using his voice. He said, "The Street Dance seems to be getting more and more out of hand. There's more and more underage drinking going on and their (the fire department's) job is to push as much alcohol through people as they can." He said he wasn't surprised to hear about the assault that happened outside the Speedway Gas Station around 11:40 Saturday night, about a 1/2 block away from the festival. He told ABC 57, "they had a big fight last year and this year they had another big fight." Ted Post the Bridgman Police Chief said, "unfortunately when you have a beer tent, people tend to drink too much and we feel a lot of this was due to the excessive drinking by the parties involved." Chief Post said 18-year-old Jordan Smith from Stevensville, and his friend ended up assaulting a total stranger in the Speedway parking lot. Smith is now housed in the Berrien County Jail on assault charges, as for his friend, police are still looking for him and his name. Chief Post said, the stranger that Smith assaulted just walked away from being in a verbal argument with his girl friend. Post said, the man who is 28-year-old and from St. Joseph, walked onto the Speedway property and that's when Smith and his friend physically attacked him. According to Chief Post the man and his girl friend admit they were both drinking heavily at the Street Dance tent party and he was walking to Speedway to catch a cab he called. "Upon arrival, officers found the subject assaulted, laying on the ground and he appeared to have head injuries," said Chief Post. The Bridgman Assistant Fire Chief Joel Buist said the festival is the department's only money maker all year. "We usually go through 50 kegs, usually we have good turn out and good luck," he said. Meanwhile Bridgman resident Julie Pyburn said she is worried about the festival violence because her car was parked down the street while she and her sister were having a blast inside the tent. Pyburn said, "we park down there and I don't want my car broken into." 24 year old Phillip Beltz attended the festival and said he heard about the fight taking place on Saturday night. He enjoyed the festival because he said, "it's like a high school reunion for a lot of people, because you don't see everyone every year." Buist told ABC 57 the Fire Department and the city plan the festival each year, and they contract is the Bridgman Police Department and they also bring in the Berrien County Reserve Unit as well. The officers ID people at the tents entrance to make sure they are 21 and they get a wrist band to wear that shows bartenders they are 21 years of age. Buist said, "we are already talking about how we can make it better and help out for next year."

After-hours and Emergency Care In an emergency, you need care right away. Emergencies might include broken bones, heart attack or choking. When determining whether your condition is an emergency, we use the “prudent layperson” test. If a prudent layperson, who has average knowledge of medicine, would believe that your condition would result in serious harm if you don’t get care right away, we consider the condition an emergency. If you have an emergency at home or away, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest doctor or emergency department, calling an ambulance if necessary. You don’t need Prior Approval for emergency care. If an out-of-area hospital admits you, call us as soon as reasonably possible. We can help you get the additional care you need in the most appropriate location.

This 4th Cumbria Green Build Festival raises awareness of the opportunities for all of us to create a more sustainable future in Cumbria through the clever use of our buildings, through prudent energy use and low carbon energy generation. The event aims to show the public, business and communities what has already been achieved within the county, and inspire them to make changes themselves. The Festival celebrates the many local businesses, services, organisations and products which are enabling these essential changes to happen, and provides a chance to visit a wide range of buildings and venues to see at first hand how the products perform in situ, supported by presentations by local practitioners and experts. The 2 week Festival has started with a Home Energy Fair staged in Penrith by PACT.

When it comes to planning events, we are responsible for hundreds, if not thousands of elements and decisions that are all subject to failure. Everything can fail. This is events - are things going crazy, and you can’t quite find a solution for every single problem that’s coming up? Purgatory Everything is nice, the last guest just went home, what a wonderful feeling because let’s be perfectly honest, anytime that is not specifically spent at the end of your event, and your event being over, is kind of spent in Event Hell. Everything went well, your guests were happy, clients were happy, all is good. Level 1 The Limbo – You’re in a massive general session room, 2,000 people attending, and half of them are asleep. As you look up at the screen, you realize that you forgot to check the slides, which happen to be formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of a 16:9.Those black bars are going to be staring at you for eternity. But, no one’s complaining, everything seems peaceful, things are alright. Level 2 The power goes out, yet the air conditioning is still blaring. We’re looking at those environmental conditions, those things that might make your attendees feel uncomfortable. If it’s too cold in the room, they’re going to leave. If they’re physically uncomfortable, they’re going to be distracted. Level 3 Catering Chaos – catering may be the spark of chaos’ fire. When you have a mislabeled allergy label, or non-vegan vegan meals, things can go insane. Level 4 For the Greedy and Ignorant – This level looks a lot like the Fyre Festival. When you put together an event and you’re being a little ignorant, you don’t really know what goes into producing a large scale program, yet you’re willing to ask your attendees to spend a ton of money, and not put that money back into the event, that’s greed and you’re not going to want to be on that level. Level 5 Having to Have “That Call” With a Client – Did you make a mistake, is something blowing your budget, just any bad news that you have to share with them, well that’s here at this level. Honesty is always going to be your best bet but if you can provide them a solution at the same time that you’re presenting them with this bad news, it lets them know that you’re already thinking ahead towards that solution. Level 6 Here, you are starting to see your attendance levels drop. People are not coming at your event because there are new events and they want to check out these other opportunities. Be innovative, creative and engaging with your content, so your attendees stick around. Level 7 It’s that level where you say everything is going to be fine, your emergency plans have been submitted but you’ve just copied and pasted them off a template that you found online. You need to dedicate both time and resources to create a safety plan. Don’t put those lives at risk. Level 8 We are talking about the fraudulent service providers and the vendors that are charging $35 on Groupon because they’re awful. The service they provide isn’t going to be what you’re looking for, you’re going to be disappointed. Level 9 The center of Event Hell. For me, it’s non floor length linens, 7:30 AM start times, rustic barn themes, make your own sandwich buffets. What is yours? Leave us a comment below and tell us.

Produced for http://www.YoughalOnline.com - Film & Edit: Kieran McCarthy - Reporter: Shane Supple - Voices: Tara O Connell & Eoin Coyne. From September 2011 the HSE plan to remove the Youghal Ambulance full-time from the town. They plan to replace it with a solo paramedic response car. This means that if a medical emergency happens anywhere within the town or surrounding areas including Ardmore, Killeagh, Castlemartyr, Ballycotton, Knockanore and further afield the casualty will have to wait for AT LEAST 20 mins before an ambulance from Midleton, Dungarvan, Fermoy or even Cork City arrives to take them to hospital (this could take up to an hour!). This makes it impossible for a casualty to make it to an A+E Department within the recommended 'golden hour' and greatly reduces their chances of survival. This decision has to be reversed or else lives will be lost! - Please suggest this page to all of your friends as it may effect any one of your friends and family. - Please also sign local petitions (details to follow) - We will be asking you to write to the HSE and government soon also to voice your concerns and more details on how to do this will follow. Below are just some of the comments on the Save Youghal Ambulance facebook page: Tara O Connell I think the petition might not be enough to change this decision, I think its time Youghal stood up and was counted, we have stayed quiet for long enough, lets take to the streets and stand up for our town, get camera crews and newspapers down and let them all know that we will not take this, and we do not want lives put at risk!!! Anne Marguerite Graf It is ludicrous to discontinue with the Ambulance Service. Upon a person sustaining a stroke or heart attack, the ambulance where I live in Nürnberg Germany is on the scene within 7 minutes. It is absolutely detrimental to be without an ambulance. Anthony Mullane got a spin off ye guys 6 years ago, and could not praise ye highly enough, patrick mc hung on awhile in the hospital, and was a great comfort to me and helen, i hope i wont need ye for awhile, but it would be nice to know ye were there, the people of youghal need and depend on this service, regards to all Michaela Bailey Maybe whoever made this decsion In the government should sit in the ambulance when the paramedics are doin the fantastic work they do in Youghal every day... And then see if the town doesn't need an ambulance... The Youghal paramedics were amazing when my grandad was sick, and to this day I will thank them from the bottom of my heart. I'm sure the town will do whatever we can to save the ambulance in Youghal!
