Here are some quick tips for new ESL teachers. This video focuses on developing a workable lesson plan, in this case, I present a plan for what I found to be a fairly successful introductory lesson for both elementary and middle school. At first, you might be tempted to write out elaborate and detailed plans for your ESL classes, where the lesson plan almost becomes a script to be read, rather than a rough guide. This kind of lesson plan is nearly certain to fail miserably. Flexibility is critical to a good lesson plan. Repetition and variation is needed to help the students retain the information covered in class. Try to design a lesson plan in modules, with each chunk being 5-25 minutes. The most important one should come first, and, with a flexible modular design, if the important lesson runs long, one of the latter modules can be eliminated, or covered during the next class. And remember: languages are not learned by listening to a lecture given in that language; language is acquired by engaging with it, by actively using it. If you only remember one thing, remember this: Your students should be talking far more than you are. ~Kyle Clements

It's the most important skill we learn in our early years and becomes the foundation for all other math concepts. Once we can count, we can add, subtract, and measure the world around us. Shortly thereafter, we can learn about place values, plots, graphs, time, money, and shapes. These early math skills are presented in this subject's tutorials in a straightforward, understandable, and (dare we say it) fun way! Want a virtual coach for Early Math? In this portion of the IPA, students are interviewing each other about activities and collecting data. Students have completed one semester of high school French (French 1). Video starts with scenes of the teacher modeling and giving directions, demonstrating that instruction occurs in French, even at the earliest levels. Then video switches to scenes of students interviewing each other. Two different periods of French 1 were recorded and the video includes segments from both.

This is an example of an effective ESL class in South Korea. The teacher was awarded an excellence in teaching certificate by the Busan Office of Education for her series of classes demonstrated in front of administrators and both Korean and foreign teachers. At the time, there were foreign GETs at all levels of the public school system: elementary, middle, and high school. She beat out a very large number of teachers to win this award. These classes are typically planned and practiced prior to being presented, and the material and lesson ideas would be very useful in any ESL program in any country. We make animated math videos and educational songs for kids that bring joy back into math class and make it cool again! Up until today, we have created nearly 30 animated music videos that cover mathematical concepts for 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade; concepts like, Rounding Numbers, Ordering Decimals, Subtraction, 3D Shapes, Types of Angles and much more! We're curious to see how our teaching resource will be used now that we have shared them with a broader audience. Thanks for your interest. How did NUMBEROCK begin? When you look at the entertainment that’s being produced for kids in games and movies, it’s no wonder that kids are starting to zone out in school. During the last 7 years as an elementary public school teacher, I’ve always tried to find new ways to capture my students’ full attention, especially for that one subject that gets such a notoriously bad rap in elementary school – math. One day I brought my guitar in to school to play a song I’d written about Long Division that was accompanied by some simple animations I’d made. While not all my students liked the folk rock genre, I could tell I had everyone’s attention. Soon I began writing songs in genres that my students actually listened to: rap, rock, pop, country, you name it. Parents would tell me that their kids were singing the songs in the car, at dinner, even teaching them to their siblings. Almost in disbelief that kids were singing my math songs for fun outside of school, I felt encouraged and inspired to keep writing. Then, three years ago, I had one of those ‘AHA!’ moments: to write a song with a simple animation for every math concept I had to teach. Altogether, from 2008 to now, I’ve written songs for nearly 50 concepts, 30 of which are now professionally animated. Lesson materials to help maximize learning for those 30 songs are available at "Teachers Pay Teachers", a website where teachers, homeschoolers, and parents can buy high quality learning materials. I hope your student(s) will find a renewed passion for math as they access the NUMBEROCK method.

This PowerPoint, with activities, and lesson plans are available @: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Mr-Raymond-Civics-And-Social-Studies-Academy This lesson teaches students about the French and Indian War, with a focus on causes and consequences. Students will review how European competition for colonies, fueled by the economic theory of mercantilism, set the stage for a showdown between France and Great Britain over North America. Comparisons are provided of how the differing missions of these two nations in the way they settled North America demonstrate Native Americans likely willingness to help the French succeed: French fur trappers with a small population and trading alliances with the Natives - English settlement of the 13 Colonies with a hunger for land for agricultural use. Students will learn about the involvement of the following major players in the conflict: George Washington, General Wolfe, and William Pitt. The following events and content are also covered: Fort Duquesne, Fort Necessity, Albany Congress & Plan of Union, Siege of Louisburg, capture of Quebec, the Treaty of Paris, Pontiac’s War, and the Proclamation Act of 1763. The consequences of the conflict are a focus of this lesson. Students will learn about how losing the French as an ally led to Pontiac’s War / Rebellion. How the Albany Congress would set the tone for colonial cooperation in rising revolutionary calls against the British. And most importantly how the taxes placed on the colonies as a result of England’s debt would lead to the “Road to the American Revolution.” Like most of the videos on Mr. Raymond’s Civics and Social Studies Academy’s lessons, this video ends with a review “quiz.” Remember that the PowerPoint in this video as well as a variety of lesson plans, worksheets, smartboard files and activities, are available at Teachers Pay Teachers. As a social studies teacher, I have often looked for good YouTube video clips to show my students. I hope these videos will serve as a supplement to lessons for civics teachers, US history teachers, US government teachers and their students. I have also thought that these videos could help those who are going to take the naturalization test to become US Citizens. How are educators adapting Language Arts curricula to reflect literacy in 2017? In May of 2016, EECD launched a new literacy strategy for Nova Scotia. A key component of this strategy is to instill strong multimedia skills in students from Grades Primary to 12. Being literate in 2017 means being able to use technology to communicate and convey ideas. Here’s how Becky Himmelman, a Grade Primary French Immersion teacher at Chebucto Heights is using technology to engage her students in learning basic literacy skills, as well as simple coding.
