How to Tell Your Dog Has Allergies

01:33
Dog Allergy Symptoms - as part of the series on dogs and pets by GeoBeats. Hello, my name is Dr. Carolyn Quagliata. I am the owner and founder of City Pet Doctor. I am here to talk about the most common allergies in dogs. The first is food allergies. Food allergies in dogs manifest as vomiting, diarrhea and lack of appetite. Dogs are actually allergic to the protein source in the food, so usually it is a specific type of meat whether it be chicken, beef, fish, venison, rabbit: the list goes on. The second is seasonal allergies also known as atopy. These dogs present as having very itchy skin, red skin. A lot of times they will lose their hair and they also get secondary infections. Usually it is a result of certain types of pollen that accumulate in the air at that time. The third is flea allergies. The name speaks for itself but these allergies present very similar to the seasonal allergies or atopy. The important thing to keep in mind is that an allergic dog can have a combination of all the types of allergies that I listed. For example, they can be food allergic and also have atopy. So the important thing is that if your dog is experiencing any chronic symptoms whether it be vomiting, diarrhea, itchy skin or red skin make sure you talk to your Vet and so that your dog can get treated and be much more comfortable.

Todays question is: What's causing my dogs skin allergies and what are the symptoms? Your dog's skin allergies are linked to their compromised immune system, a result of an unnatural commercial pet food diet affecting unnatural outcomes. An outbreak of demodectic mange; constant scratching, even to the point of causing bare patches or open wounds; coat hair that's greasy, dry, brittle or coarse to the touch, or oily to the touch and fusty in odor; some form of dermatitis appearing in flaky skin or dandruff; ears that appear less than perfectly clean, with possible red eczema like skin, waxy or other accumulated particles visible deeper down the ear; excess shedding as hair easily comes away from the body; paw licking to ease that athletes foot type sensation; spotty pimples and other skin eruptions; cracked dry nose and paws; and yellowing of the whites of the eyes. Every one of these outcomes links directly to the pet food you feed your dog every day. The skin is the largest organ of the body (that's true for humans too) and the only one we can easily get a good look at. When problems show up, it's the skin that usually reveals them first. This is the immune system's way of dealing with disease, by keeping the problem as far away from the vital organs as possible and for as long as possible. Eventually chronic or persistent problems drive deeper into the body as the toxic overload proves too much for the immune system to fight off. This can result in failure of major body organs, or worse, the phenomenon of rogue cells turning into full fledged cancer somewhere in the body. So what can you do to stop the problems before it's too late and clear up the allergies quickly? Switch diets from a heavily processed fast food diet in cans and packets to a more gentle fresh food diet, a species appropriate diet that dogs have thrived on for millions of years before modern convenience food found its way into your dog causing their present allergies and quiet suffering. Within weeks of improving your dog's diet and having their teeth thoroughly cleaned, you'll notice that the scratching has stopped, the hair becomes softer and cleaner, the shedding dissipates, the ears return to health and cleanliness, and smelling your dog's coat and breath have become a joy. And, as all this happens, you can celebrate the fact that your dog's immune system is getting stronger by the day. This Dan Scott for Healthy Dog For Life.com http://healthydogforlife.com

Dog Allergy Test!

10:24
Our dog, Bentley has had allergies since he was a puppy. We have tried everything! We've tried multiple foods, from raw to home cooked and we've also had him on Atopica allergy medication daily. Nothing has seemed to help much up to this point. Bentley will scratch to the point of bleeding and scabbing, hence the reason he wears a blue cone/pillow around his neck. We finally decided to bite the bullet and get him allergy tested... we've held off due to him being a french bulldog and having him have a pushed in nose, we've always been told that there are higher risks when these dogs are sedated and put under anesthesia. After this procedure we now know his main allergens and will be working to immunizing him to them, hopefully this will work! Thanks for watching, please subscribe if you haven't already!

Treating My Dog's Allergies | Veterinary Medicine

13:05
It is important to remember that itching is not a disease, or a cause of disease, but rather the result of a disease process. Effectively treating itching requires treating its cause. Not every patient is the same. It is important to work together with your veterinarian to find the best treatment necessary for you and your pet. These are my opinions and I always ALWAYS recommended consulting your veterinarian first. ✔ V E T E R I N A R Y V L O G S https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRSnfSqo-l4we6gZK0mqN_tzM92k2FHym ✔ S T I T C H F I X P L A Y L I S T https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... ✔S I G N U P F O R S T I T C H F I X ! * http://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/8761804/type/dlg/https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/81 ✔ S N A P C H A T vlbirch0429 ✔ I N S T A G R A M https://www.instagram.com/victoriabirch1/ https://www.instagram.com/life_as_alexandra/ ✔ T W I T T E R https://twitter.com/victoriabirch1 ✔ F A C E B O O K https://www.facebook.com/victoriabirch0429 ✔ E M A I L victoriabirch1@gmail.com ✔ W R I T E T O M E H E R E Victoria Birch P.O. Make your pet healthier and allergie free by making their food at home. A good siter for foods NOT to feed your dog http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1659&aid=1030 (((( I am not a vet and you are solely responsible for what you feed your pet )))) As for the recipe: All will depend on the size batch you are making so go by the percentage below. You may alter this according to how you believe you should feed your pet. We use: about 30-40 percent protien (more around 40 right now for the puppy) beef, fish, pork, turkey, chicken. If you dog is itching... just use beef and fish to start with and if they stop or improve add pork next time and see if they are still goog to go. if so try the next protien until you find the one that makes them itch. then don't use that one ever lol. 30 - 40 percent veggies (stear away from corn as it just passes through dogs because their system is to short to absorb it). But if there is a great deal on mixed veggies by all means use it. about 10 percent potatos mixed with sweet potatos or by thereselves. 10 -15 percent jasmine rice. (add about a half a cup extra water and cook slightly longer so the rice is really soft. You can add fruits as well and also veggies like squash and cucumber eggplant etc. Also you can get a multi-vitemin to make sure you are giving them all the vitemins and minerals.

For more details send an email to lyndall.pinchen@gmail.com*** Hi there, Lyndall Pinchen Canine Naturopath from Canine Vitality back again for this week’s blog on my top 5 supplements to help your dog survive ALLERGY season! Yes, if you live in the Southern hemisphere like I do, our Winter has come to an end (yayyy!!) and Spring has sprung. And while I personally love Spring, I know that there are many of you out there that are starting to get heart palpitations just thinking about how your dog is going to make it through yet another allergy season. If you dog suffers from allergies, they can make him or her feel pretty miserable not to mention the stress it creates for you as the owner. And maybe you can relate to this? Does your dog suffer from recurring allergies and you seem to be on a never ending cycle of steroids and antibiotics come Spring? Your dog might tend to scratch all the time especially during the night, keeping you all awake. Skin rashes, lumps, hotspots and yeast infections are common presentations...Or they may have low energy and seem quite depressed. All of this is pretty common in dogs suffering from any sort of chronic allergy problem. So today I wanted to share with you what I believe are the top 5 supplements that can really help your dog during Spring season or really at anytime of the year to combat those allergy problems. Now while I am giving you my top 5, there are numerous supplements that can assist in the natural treatment of allergies and all of these work far better when you have your dog on an appropriate diet, which for me is raw and organic. This is really the first place to start when treating any allergy issue. Remember that all processed foods can lead to a build up of toxins in the body (particularly the gut) and this can actually mimic allergy symptoms so I always work to get a dog off all the processed foods. So with that being said, let’s look at my top 5: 1. Probiotics- there is so much in the media today about the benefits of probiotics and fermented foods for the health of our guts, and the same definitely applies when it come to our dogs. Probiotics (or live beneficial bacteria) are really essential for the health of the gut and immune systems and this is often at the centre of allergy issues. A good quality probiotic added into your dog’s food can help boost up the level of good bacteria already present in the digestive tract and this not only helps keep other less desirable microbes from proliferating but also assists in the treatment of leaky gut syndrome which is often at the root of yeast infections and the development of many allergies. You can read more about leaky gut by going to my blog. It’s important to give your dog a multistrain and dairy free probiotic and add in one that is at 10-20 billion. ***$10.00 OFF ALL SIZES OF HERBAL DETOX MIX FOR SEPTEMBER. Dog Itching, Dog Food Allergies, Cats with IBD: Diet For Cats and Dogs with Allergies

09:14
Is your dog itching and scratching? Does your cat have IBD? Does your cat or dog have chronic UTIs? Diet changes and supplements will help your pets. http://AskAriel.com Allergies affect many pets but some pet owners may not know that allergies are the underlying cause of their pet's health problems. Pets with chronic allergies will often have other symptoms indicating a weakened immune system. Cats and dogs have allergies but they can be affected differently: Cats: --gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g. diarrhea, vomiting, hairballs), respiratory concerns (asthma), less common-- hair and coat issues Dogs:—skin and coat issues, scratching and itching, gastrointestinal issues Allergies are cumulative—they build up over time and with continued exposure (could show a balloon filling up about to burst) Most pets have both environmental and food allergies. Feeding your pet a hypoallergenic, low carbohydrate diet will help reduce symptoms. Common Food Allergens: If your pet is allergic, it is best to avoid treats and pet foods containing the following: __Corn __Gluten (wheat, barley, spelt, oats & other grains) __Chicken (for some pets—all poultry) __Fish (some cats are allergic) __Peanut butter __Dairy (cheese, milk, yogurt) __Soy Allergy Treatments Respond Best Using an Integrative Approach: Medications may provide short-term relief for allergies: Antibiotics, antihistamines, steroids, sprays, shampoos Antigen testing and antigen shots helpful for some pets Holistic care provides short and long-term relief used in conjunction.   Help Your Pet's Allergies Using Holistic Care ___Change Diet __Basic supplements such as Power Probiotic and Notatum for all __Amazing Omegas proven to help allergies but not for pets with IBD __AllerEase, Proaller, Syallgen, Allergy Combination Drops can all help Allergy Symptoms Can Be Exacerbated by Other Issues: __Endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism __Stress and anxiety __Boredom __Other Immune Related Disorders (e.g. cancer) Patience is Essential When Helping Your Pet With Allergies __Allergies take a long time to build up and time Is needed for symptoms to calm down __Using medications in conjunction with supplements will enable your pet to have short and long-term relief if your pet is severely allergic and needs immediate help __Medications, dietary changes and supplements often require some trial and error Next Steps Change your pet's diet to a hypoallergenic, low carbohydrate diet Use supplements to support your pet's digestive and immune health (can show supplements such as Power Probiotic, AllerEase and Amazing Omegas on the slide) Work with your veterinarian to use medications and conventional care as needed

Part 1: HOW TO stop your Dog Canine Beagle Scratching Itching Allergy Flaky Skin.

14:12
This is part one of a series. My dog Bailey (beagle) has skin problems or allergies and she itches like crazy and cant stop scratching. Its so bad, that the fur under her neck is almost all gone and there is very irritated skin. There is nothing I can do to stop it. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This dog shampoo got almost 100% positive reviews: http://amzn.to/2fD5p1y ---- pH balanced for dogs. http://amzn.to/2iivELt --- Dog/cat shampoo for seborrheic dermatitis or DANDRUFF. (Excellent!) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Its an ongoing problem that has lasted almost 5+ years. The vets have no solutions. They keep saying to try different foods, but I have tried 5 different foods with no luck. The only thing that seems to work temporarily is the steroid prednisone, which stops the itch almost instantly, but is only temporary. With prednisone they prescribe an anti-fungal and anti-microbial. But still, after a few weeks, the itch comes back and then the raw skin, etc. In this series, I am going to try and figure the problem out myself and report the progress back to you. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How Accurate is Google Measure?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=982aVPvCv7I -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

According to the veterinarian, they are Dogs With Food Allergy. The dog's body reacts when an allergy appears. And the skin is one of the first to resent. Usually, can develop dermatitis. Other warning signs that alert you of an allergy are vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Therefore, a quick visit to the veterinarian is essential. "Most food allergies are due to certain proteins present in milks, meats and fish, but there are also some dogs with intolerance to food additives." Meats such as veal and lamb, foods like milk and even cereals like wheat are among the foods that most often cause allergic reactions in these pets. How to act with Dogs with Food Allergy: hypoallergenic diet. The first step to identify the food that causes allergy to can, you have to subject the animal to a hypoallergenic diet. These diets typically include a source of hydrolyzed proteins and carbohydrates to which the pet has had little or no previous exposure. If the dog offers some improvement during the hypoallergenic diet, it should be returned to the original diet to confirm that it is the cause of the allergic reaction and more accurately detect which specific ingredient is allergic. In case the allergy arises, remove the last added ingredient and wait for the symptoms to disappear before moving on to the next ingredient. In order to avoid accumulating at home kilos of discarded food to which the pet is allergic, the ideal is to perform these hypoallergenic diets with small containers of dog food. Staph infection Dog/Cat Bacterial and yeast infections Food allergy

03:37
I MUST STRESS THIS IS MERELY MY OPINION I am not a vet Our dog was diagnosed with a staph infection and giving prescription medication, which cleared it up, but as soon as medication was finish it started to come back again, so i am trying this as i don't want to keep giving her antibiotics all the time. Have made these changes to our dogs diet and cleansing her skin for the last 4 weeks, overall after 8 weeks there should be a improvement. I will post after 4 weeks and show progress of our dog. Bacterial and yeast infections Food allergy part 2 follow up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2L23RXVkBA yorkie has these scabs all over her body and these black spots on her stomach. Some of the scabs on her stomach are not scabs yet they look like pimples. The solution I'm about to use will take care of staph, yeast, and pretty much any common bacteria, but doesn't sting or irritate the dog's skin at all. And it's safe if dogs lick the area after cleaning. changed her food and treats she is on dry food , grain free diet, Hypo-allergenic , no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives And no GMO ingredients, it costs more to buy, but at the end of the day it’s worth it for your dog or cat. The treats is the same, we only buy treats that are Hypoallergenic contain no added wheat, wheat gluten, dairy, pork or beef. We give her Dorwest Herbs Evening Primrose Oil Capsules, one a day, it has Fish oils (Omega 6 fatty acids) fish oil is good for dogs skin to prevent yeast and bacteria and is known to hydrate dry, itchy skin and maintain a lustrous, glossy coat. We also give her Sardines in sunflower oil ‘1 piece’ with her food twice a week this is high in omega 3 Bathing her more often is a very good idea as this will help with the itching A hypoallergenic shampoo is what we use. Overall if these suggestions are not helping then I would consider taking them to your vet changing her food to a Hypoallergenic contain no added wheat, wheat gluten, dairy, pork or beef. Treating your dog daily with a povidone iodine wash is the safest way to treat minor secondary infection without racing to the vet for antibiotics that may weaken the immune system. Disinfects staph, yeast, and almost all common bacteria • Doesn’t sting or irritate the dog’s skin at all • Safe if dogs lick the area after cleaning To use: 1. In a small container dilute 10% povidone iodine with warm water. Water it down to the color of iced tea. If it comes up too light, just add a bit more of the iodine. If it’s a bit dark, add more water. Mix only what you’ll need. 2. Soak a clean washcloth in the diluted povidone iodine solution. Gently wipe down the entire body. Pay special attention to sores, bumps, eruptions, flaky areas or areas where yeast is suspected. Treat the healthy skin too to help stop problems before they start. 3. Rinse the washcloth, wring it out well and dip it in the diluted iodine again. Do one more pass just as before. pat your dog dry It is important to do this disinfecting process every day. Twice a day if possible.

Does My Cat Have a Food Allergy?

02:12
Does My Cat Have a Food Allergy? What is a food allergy? In cats with food allergies, certain ingredients can trigger an immune-system response. A food allergy isn’t quite the same thing as a food sensitivity. Food sensitivity usually affects a cat’s digestion (think vomiting and diarrhea); but a food allergy often appears as a skin problem. If your cat seems itchy and you’ve ruled out fleas or reactions to pollen and grass, there’s a chance that something in your pet’s food is causing the trouble. None of this is your fault, by the way. Veterinary studies show that cats can develop allergies even to ingredients they’ve eaten all of their lives without any problems. While food additives are often blamed for causing allergies or sensitivities, there’s not much evidence to support this. Most often, cats are allergic to: Lamb Whitefish Dairy Beef How are food allergies treated in cats? A vet can help you figure out if kitty has a food allergy and may recommend a different type of food. Cat food labeled “grain-free” or “limited ingredient” can be a good choice; it’s often made without the ingredients that cause trouble for some cats. Grain-free cat food contains no wheat, corn or soy, all of which can sometimes cause reactions in cats. Limited-ingredient cat food is often made with alternative or “novel” proteins, such as salmon, turkey or duck. Do remember to read labels carefully. Even a cat food designated “grain-free” or “limited ingredient” may still contain an ingredient that bothers your cat. How do I change my cat’s diet? Transition your cat to a new food by substituting a little of the new stuff for the old stuff in their usual meal. Swap out a little more at the next feeding, and so on, for a week. By the seventh day, your cat should be completely switched over to the new food. Remember to avoid giving your cat treats and people food, which may include some of the allergens you’re trying to avoid. If you notice any new symptoms, talk to your vet.
