Antibiotics, Do you need them?: A guide to viral infections with Dr. Alan Christianson http://drchristianson.com/blog Do you need to take an antibiotic? Life comes at us fast, with ous schedules we can’t afford to be sick. We become desperate! Let’s get to the question. Our four vulnerable areas are ears, throat, lungs and sinuses. Multiple symptoms in those areas equal a virus. Let’s talk about the illusions of viral infections. Symptoms last from seven to ten days. It goes from not bad to awful in this time. In the latter stages you will start questioning if you need an antibiotic. Then you say, “Hey, I am done with this. This has gone on for too long, and I just need this gone!” This is day seven or eight. The next two days, you magically get better. An important fact is viruses are typically a 10 day issue. It often feels as if the antibiotic fixed the issue. Really, it did not, as the symptoms would have gone away in that time frame anyway. In some moments however antibiotics are need. Let’s take a look: The throat: Strep throat benefits from antibiotic treatment. In most cases, strep throat is just a bad, painful throat without a runny nose, ear pressure or a cough. The ears: Although it isn’t as common for adults, some get complicated ear infections. If they do, they will not commonly have a runny nose or a sore throat. The symptoms will be more localized in the ears, along with fever and some pain. The lungs: If you have a very productive cough, fever and fatigue (probably without a sore throat, a runny nose or ear pressure), you could have pneumonia. It does take a chest X-ray to confirm. Listening to the lungs is not perfect in most cases. If you are listening closely, you might notice I didn’t address one area: the sinuses. In many levels of my training, I was taught sinus infections take a long time to get rid of, so patients probably need two courses of antibiotics. Sinus infections take about three weeks to go away. Antibiotics or not sinuses will take three weeks. If you do take an antibiotic, your odds of having more sinuses infections that year are 50% higher than if you did not. So, if you do take an antibiotic for a sinus infection, it won’t go away faster, but you have a good chance of getting sick sooner than you would otherwise. I am not against antibiotics, but by very conventional guidelines, Antibiotics are not much help with a mixture of symptoms like bronchitis and flu. One note about the flu: There is a treatment, called Tamiflu, which is kind of like an antibiotic against influenza. The data says it isn’t helpful. Here’s a trick to treating viruses. Viruses shed themselves by sweating more than anything. When kids get sick, they get high fever, and then are done. As adults, we do not have that kind of vitality. Here’s how we do it: At bedtime, prepare some ginger tea. Fill the bathtub with water that is as hot as tolerable. Put extra blankets on your bed and wear sweat clothes. A silly amount of clothes. Jump in the tub for about fifteen minutes, while drinking some warm to hot ginger tea. Ginger is a diaphoretic warming you up internally. Once you have cooked yourself pretty good in the tub, wear the sweat clothes in bed with blankets, while you sleep. After a few hours of sweat, throw off the clothes and go back to sleep. you will awaken and will have kicked the virus! You will have have broken the cycle. This method is a stronger antibiotic for most, common, respiratory infections and has no side effects! Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can cause mild to severe illness in people of all ages. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports it is the leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years of age worldwide. Globally, pneumonia kills nearly 1 million children in this age group each year. Pneumonia isn't just a public health issue in developing countries, each year in the United States about 1 million people have to seek hospital care due to pneumonia and approximately 50,000 people die from the condition. Interestingly, most of the people affected by pneumonia in the United States are adults according to the CDC. In the United States, common causes of viral pneumonia are influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and a common cause of bacterial pneumonia is Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). However, clinicians are not always able to determine which germ caused someone to get sick. Fortunately, many of these infections can often be prevented with vaccines and can usually be treated with antibiotics, antiviral drugs (such as Tamiflu) or specific drug therapies. When someone develops pneumonia in the community (not in a hospital), it's called community-acquired pneumonia. Pneumonia developed during or following a stay in a healthcare facility (like hospitals, long-term care facilities, and dialysis centers) is called healthcare-associated pneumonia, which includes hospital-acquired pneumonia and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Common signs of pneumonia include cough, fever and difficulty breathing. Certain people are more likely to become ill with pneumonia, including: • Adults 65 years or older • Children younger than 5 years old • People who have underlying medical conditions (like asthma, diabetes or heart disease) • People who smoke cigarettes We can all help prevent pneumonia by following good hygiene practices, such as washing hands regularly and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. These are just a few things to know about pneumonia and protecting your lungs. The World Health Organization and the CDC class Tamiflu as an essential drug and many countries have stockpiled the drug at great expense. However, in a recent article in the Public Library of Science, this premise is being challenged. Roche Pharmaceuticals has refused to release the scientific research related to this question. The public is paying for stock piling but has no data proving that Tamiflu prevents pneumonia or saves lives. The data we do have shows that Tamiflu shortens the course of the illness by 1/2 - 1 day. The drug company provided no convincing reasons for withholding the research data. Donald Rumsfeld and some of his friends own stock in Tamiflu...they have been instrumental for its tremendous sales. There are also a myriad of side effects that include symptoms like the flu that include nausea, vomition, diarrhea, anaphylaxis, hemorrhagic colitis, neurological problems, hallucinations, and suicides. Highlights: - The latest updated Cochrane Review: Neuraminidase inhibitors for preventing and treating influenza in healthy adults and children, is based on full internal reports of 20 Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and 26 Relenza (zanamivir) trials. These trials involved more than 24,000 people and the findings challenge the historical assumption that neuraminidase inhibitors are effective in combating influenza. The evidence also suggests there are insufficient grounds to support the use of Tamiflu in preventing person-to-person spread of influenza. This raises further questions about the most effective way to support drug regulation and public health policy decision-making. Claims about the effectiveness of Tamiflu against complications were a key factor in decisions made by governments around the world to stockpile these drugs in case of a pandemic. The US has spent more than $1.3 billion buying a strategic reserve of antivirals, while in the UK the government has spent almost £424 million for a stockpile of about 40 million doses*. - Compared with a placebo, taking Tamiflu led to a quicker alleviation of influenza-like symptoms of just half a day (from 7 days to 6.3 days) in adults, but the effect in children was more uncertain. There was no evidence of a reduction in hospitalisations or serious influenza complications; confirmed pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis or ear infection in either adults or children. Tamiflu also increased the risk of nausea and vomiting in adults by around 4 percent and in children by 5 percent. There was a reported increased risk of psychiatric events of around 1 percent when Tamiflu was used to prevent influenza. Evidence also suggests that Tamiflu prevented some people from producing sufficient numbers of their own antibodies to fight infection. * April 2014 Cochrane Review - http://healthresearchreport.me/2014/04/11/tamiflu-relenza-almost-totally-ineffective-yet-deadly-side-effects-out-of-46-trials-of-24000-people/

Tamiflu's Effectiveness Questioned in New Study. The antiviral solution Tamiflu may not be any more compelling than different strategies for treating flu, or influenza infections, as indicated by another investigation distributed in the diary BMJ. More from Time.com: There isn't solid confirmation to help amassing the items in national crisis tranquilize terminals in the event of a pandemic, the scientists say. The two medications—Tamiflu is the brand name for oseltamivir and Relenza is the brand name zanamivir—are intended to prevent the flu infection from spreading in a tainted individual, and claim to decrease the seriousness of influenza side effects and to what extent individuals are wiped out. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps the medications in its store for use in both occasional and pandemic influenza circumstances, and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization likewise prescribe the drugs for treating influenza. The creators of the present audit found, be that as it may, that on account of the European endorsements specifically, administrative offices depended on outlines of concentrates instead of a thorough examination of crude information, known as clinical investigation reports, which can raced to more than 1,000 pages and detail strategies, conventions and factual investigations. Following a four-year push to acquire this information from both the producers and the EMA, the creators report in the diary BMJ that those trials don't bolster guarantees that the medications bring down the danger of entanglements from influenza, for example, pneumonia, or that the advantages of the medications exceed their dangers, which incorporate queasiness, regurgitating, migraines and kidney issue. The creators point to not only one disappointment during the time spent supporting these drugs, yet a feeble administrative framework in which the examinations are altogether directed by makers, and in which the trials thought about the prescriptions against fake treatment instead of to existing influenza medicines. Roche pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Tamiflu, has refused for 3 years to release key data from their Tamiflu research trial that "justifies" its use in influenza to the prestigious Cochrane Review. What are they trying to hide? Why has the FDA, CDC, and WHO endorsed using Tamiflu within the first 48 hours of symptoms of the flu when the data shows it only shortens symptoms of influenza by 1/2 to 1 day? There is no data showing that it lowers the risk for developing pneumonia or of mortality. WHO recommends that countries stockpile this drug in case there is a pandemic from influenza that causes severe morbidity and mortality. It was recommended for the Swine flu in 2009-10 when there wasn't even a usual number of deaths from the flu. For more information please visit www.doctorsaputo.com

The flu is running rampant this year in the US, especially in big cities like NYC. Do you know what you should do if you end up getting the flu? Dr. Dean Mitchell, clinical Immunologist and holistic practitioner in NYC, discusses the typical flu symptoms, how to get diagnosed with the flu, and the different treatment options for the flu. How do you know if you have the flu? Typical flu symptoms are sometimes similar to a regular virus and can include: sore throat, cough, high fever and muscle aches. If you have a high fever over 101 degrees for more than 2 days it is very likely that you have the flu. How to get diagnosed with the flu? If you think you have the flu see your doctor to get assessed. You can also get a rapid nasal flu test to see if you have the flu. This year is especially difficult when it comes to the flu because of the H3N2 virus which is very similar to the old Hong Kong flu that was around 20 years ago. What to do if you have the flu? Once diagnosed with the flu use Tamiflu, an anti-viral medication which if started within 72 hours of contracting the flu can help ameliorate and decrease flu symptoms. Tamiflu is a great option for both children and adults. Holistic treatment for the flu includes: rest, avoiding contact with other people, hydrating (especially with teas and soups with salt), eating lighter meals so your body can focusing on healing and taking vitamins. Taking medicine like Advil and Tylenol is ok if you have a high fever but is not recommended with a low-grade fever. Should I take antibiotics if I have the flu? Most people think they need antibiotics when they have the flu but it's actually bad to take them because they don't actually fight the flu. Antibiotics are good if you get complications from the flu such as pneumonia. Make sure to keep an eye for Dr. Dean Mitchell's new book coming out this year on immunology entitled ImmunoLife. Expert: Dr. Dean Mitchell, M.D. Contact: http://www.mitchellmedicalgroup.com Location: NYC & Long Island Bio: For over 25 years, Dr. Mitchell has specialized in leaky gut, candida and immunology in NYC. I REPORTED TAMIFLU DANGEROUS 3 MONTHS AGO! MEDIA CATCHES UP- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8rYtgJppz8 They still get their money though don't they. Nice little earner that wasn't it. Tamiflu was NOT safe all along and the media and government should be held accountable. Too late shutting the gate now when the horse has bolted! How do you sleep at night knowing children and adults have actually died as a result of miss-diagnose of meningitis, kidney failure, pneumonia. You are all part of the same team and you have been proven wrong. I suggest you start to report the dangers of the vaccine and Jane Burgermeister's evidence and charges. Before you too are charged. Children should not be given the anti-viral drug Tamiflu because its harms outweigh any benefits, researchers have said. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090810/tuk-swine-flu-drug-harmful-to-young-6323e80.html

I had the flu-B a month ago and I had medical care treated with tamiflu! But I had been no better for long days after that with the obstinate cough, bloody sputum and a gouty pain in my right foot! At last I coughed up pretty much blood during work, so I couldn't help but retire from my work and went to a big city hospital to be inspected! The doctor told me that it was strongly suspected of lung cancer which grew up to be 2&1/3 inches after CT scan inspection!! I got a little surprised but I was feeling calm with no shock and no fear at all! I was able to accept my death in some months, a year or... smoothly! I was living with my loved gospel music and with going to hitting golf balls with my loved gears thinking may have been my last shots in this world really though unhealthy! I'd had pulmonary camera inspection and PET inspection before I was noticed that it was not a malignancy! Calm as always! Bacterial pneumonia?! I may be a no Gods and Buddha debater basically, of course I don't make light of Gods and Buddha at all, I should thank Them now! " I'm gonna serve the Lord"! Speaking of "I'm gonna serve the Lord", I can remember the version of "Rev. Robert Blair & The Violinaires Of Detroit" in Checker, 1966! "The Dolphus Singers" had recorded the song for Avant, Tx. in prob. 1959! My channel is to reserve my records especially for myself! So not for others! I am looking forward to Tiger's revival in near feature! P.S. "Jeanne Dolphus" is "Dr. M. Jeanne Dolphus Cotton" who was a leader & a lead singer of "Jeanne & The Darlings" on Stax, Volt label, I hear! I didn't know this funky female soul group till I uploaded this video and googled "Dolphus Singers" and Jeanne!

(KLTV) - It is the beginning of the peak flu months, and some recent information suggests the most popular flu drugs don't work. The information is not referring to flu vaccines; those, doctors said, are reliable. The study shows the actual drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza, used to treat the flu, are not all that effective. Thousands of Americans die from the flu each year and, according to a study by the Cochran Collaboration, an independent medical research group, the drugs to treat it aren't helping. 24,000 patients who used Tamiflu were reviewed. The drug did decrease symptoms, just slightly, by 17 hours - from seven days to 6.3 days. Tyler area pharmacist David Davis said, in his experience, the findings sound about right. “If you catch the flu and you are going to be sick for seven days maybe you're only sick for six days,” he explained. The study also found the drug didn't prevent pneumonia, a common secondary symptom to the flu, that often lands patients in the emergency room. “Somebody that catches the flu that would've ended up in the hospital anyway; the drug is probably not going to prevent that from the evidence that I have seen,” Davis said. The study also found no reduced risk of death. But Trinity Mother Frances pharmacist James Tyler disagreed. “They work best when given early on,” Tyler explained. He said if given at the first sign of flu Tamiflu and related drugs can help you feel better. “They would reduce the severity, so the body aches, the fever, the general feeling of just feeling terrible all over,” he said. But, if given too late he questioned whether those drugs would help at all. “I think it's not as clear. In general I would say probably not.” Roche, the makers of Tamiflu, issued this statement saying, “The company fundamentally disagrees with the overall conclusions,” and cited a study they funded last year, which “showed the drug was associated with a reduction in the risk of death by 19 percent.” The Centers for Disease control still lists anti-viral drugs like Tamiflu as the recommended treatment for flu. Still, medical experts said the flu vaccine is the best defense. So, if you have not gotten your flu vaccine yet, you are encouraged to go get it. We are told there is no serious shortage of any vaccine in the East Texas area, although the four strain vaccine recommended for elderly has been going fastest.

Flu season is just around the corner and health experts are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, including pregnant mothers. Dr. Melissa Lee, a gynecologist at Lee Memorial Health System, says no matter what stage of pregnancy it’s important to get a flu vaccine. “They are considered a higher risk category so we actually recommend every pregnant female get the flu vaccine.” The flu shot will protect both mother and baby throughout the entire pregnancy. “Not only does it protect the mom during pregnancy but it also transfers some immunity to the baby during pregnancy, and if you’re breast feeding, also after pregnancy,” said Dr. Lee. The vaccine helps the pregnant mother develop antibodies, protecting them from anyone who may have the flu. But some mothers worry about what the vaccine does to the baby. Dr. Lee says the vaccine will protect the baby too. “Everybody is always concerned about the thimerosal and the additive that are in it. Actually, thimerosal has not been associated with any autism issues and that’s usually the big red flag that everybody gets concerned about,” said Dr. Lee. If a pregnant mother gets the flu, it puts her and the baby at risk. “The risk of complications during pregnancy with the flu is much higher because your immune system is a little bit more compromised and your respiratory system also isn’t as good at clearing things,” said Dr. Lee. A pregnant mother who tests positive for the flu is at risk for pneumonia, hospitalization, even preterm labor. “A lot of symptoms they have are fever, chills, coughing, runny nose,” said Dr. Lee. Fortunately, pregnant mothers can take Tamiflu during pregnancy to help get rid of the symptoms. http://www.drguinand.com - Best Medicine For Flu Dr. Richard Guinand talks about the best medicine for Influenza. The Flu is a viral pneumonia, and like other pneumonias it is a serious illness! Anti-viral medications such as Tamiflu and Relenza can be highly effective if you start them within 48 hours of symptoms - the earlier you start them the more effective. You MUST SEE a doctor to obtain them, it can be dangerous for a doctor to phone them in without verifying you do indeed have the flu. Recovering quicker also means you are less like to pass the Flu to others. (side note: a viral illness with vomiting and diarrhea is often called "the flu" or "stomach flu". It is not the same as Influenza) I hope this helps you learn about Influenza. I hope this helps you recover! CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Public health experts in both northern Kentucky and Cincinnati said the tri-state is following a national trend. The flu and several other viruses are now at epidemic proportions. That also raises the risk for hospitalizations and deaths so there are some things people need to know to try and get the right treatment. Dr. Scott Woods of Bethesda Family Practice said, "Just lots of viruses going around, several of them causing pneumonia. Viral pneumonia is quite common right now." Viruses that cause colds and other illnesses tend to come on gradually and tend to have general respiratory symptoms. The flu tends to strike suddenly and usually includes respiratory symptoms but also body aches and a high fever. It's hard at times to tell the difference though. To find out if people have the flu they can get a quick check at their doctor's office or a walk in-clinic. If people do have the flu an antiviral agent such as Tamiflu in the first few days may help shorten how long people are sick. It can also make symptoms less severe. If people don't have the flu, hydration and taking over-the-counter medicines to ease a few aches is generally recommended. Hand washing and avoiding people who are sick is the best defense. If people do get sick they can lower the risk they'll cause harm to others by staying away from babies under six months. Especially stay away from babies under three months because if they spike a fever they are going to get a sepsis workup according to Dr. Woods. It's also better if people avoid visiting people in the hospital or at home if they are older or have compromised immunity due to breathing problems or heart conditions. Flu: treatment, and prevention Treatments for flu As flu is caused by a virus, antibiotics cannot help, unless the flu has led to another illness caused by bacteria. Antivirals, such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza), may be prescribed in some circumstances. Painkillers can alleviate some of the symptoms, such as headache and body pains. Some painkillers, such as aspirin, should not be given to children under 12. Individuals with flu should: stay at home avoid contact with other people where possible keep warm and rest consume plenty of liquids avoid alcohol stop smoking eat if possible It is a good idea for people that live alone to tell a relative, friend, or neighbor that they have flu and make sure someone can check in on them. Should people with flu tell their doctor? A doctor should only be informed if: the individual is frail or elderly their temperature remains high after 4-5 days symptoms worsen the individual feels seriously ill they become short of breath and/or develop chest pain If worried, a phone call to the doctor may be a better solution than making an appointment. Flu risks and complications In the majority of cases, flu is not serious - it is just unpleasant. For some people, however, there can be severe complications. This is more likely in very young children, in the elderly, and for individuals with other longstanding illness that can undermine their immune system. The risk of experiencing severe flu complications is higher for certain people: adults over 65 babies or young children pregnant women individuals with heart or cardiovascular disease those with chest problems, such as asthma or bronchitis individuals with kidney disease people with diabetes people taking steroids individuals undergoing treatment for cancer those with longstanding diseases that reduce immune system function Some of the complications caused by influenza may include bacterial pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes. Children may develop sinus problems and ear infections. Flu prevention Flu vaccination Flu vaccination is the best protection against flu. Over 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications each year, and about 36,000 people are estimated to die as a result of flu. It is estimated that, globally, 250,000-500,000 people die each year as a result of flu. In industrialized countries, the majority of deaths occur among people over the age of 65. A flu epidemic - where a large number of people in one country are infected - can last several weeks. Health experts and government agencies throughout the world say that the single best way to protect oneself from catching flu is to get vaccinated every year. There are two types of vaccinations, the flu shot and the nasal-spray flu vaccine. The flu shot is administered with a needle, usually in the arm - it is approved for anyone older than 6 months, including healthy people and those with chronic medical conditions. The nasal-spray flu vaccine is a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause illness. Seasonal flu shot A flu vaccine will contain three influenza viruses: influenza (H3N2) virus influenza (H1N2) virus one B virus As viruses adapt and change, so do those contained within the vaccines - what is included in them is based on international surveillance and scientists' calculations about which virus types and strains will circulate in a given year. Protection begins about 2 weeks after receiving the vaccination. Seasonal flu vaccinations should start in September or as soon as the vaccine is on hand, and continue throughout the flu season, into January, and beyond. This is because the timing and duration of influenza seasons are never the same. Flu outbreaks usually peak at around January, but they can happen as early as October. Seasonal flu shots are not suitable for some people Certain individuals should check with their doctor before deciding to have the flu vaccine, including: Individuals with a severe allergy to chicken eggs. Individuals who have had a severe reaction to a flu vaccination in the past. Individuals who developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome within 6 weeks of receiving a flu vaccine. Children under 6 months old. Individuals experiencing a fever with a moderate-to-severe illness should wait until they recover before being vaccinated. Flu virus types Three types of flu viruses exist - influenza A, influenza B, and influenza C. Types A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics that hit the United States and Europe virtually every winter. The type C influenza virus causes mild respiratory illness and is not responsible for outbreaks.

You wanted to know if your friend should be taking Tamiflu, because her husband has been diagnosed with influenza, and she's 36 weeks along. And the best advice I have for your friend is to call her doctor and ask them if they think she should be taking Tamiflu or any other antiviral medications. Based on their knowledge of her circumstances, they'll be able to give her the best advice. Generally speaking, the current recommendation is that women who are in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters should get a form of antiviral medication to help fight the flu if they are exposed to someone who has influenza. In the 1st trimester, though, this medication should not be given. These types of medications are in pregnancy category C. And that means, basically in this situation, that they haven't been proven to be safe during pregnancy, because, ethically, we can't study their effects on a pregnant woman and her baby. But they have been given to pregnant women, and we haven't seen any adverse effects for a woman or her baby that was exposed in utero during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. We do know that, in the 1st trimester, there can be problems. And if a pregnant woman gets the flu, it's more likely to be serious as the pregnancy progresses. So in the 3rd trimester, she's most at risk. In the 1st trimester, the baby is most at risk to getting medication. So again, that's why a woman in the 2nd or 3rd trimester should get medication, but not those that are in the 1st. So again, the doctor knows the most about her situation and will be able to give her the best advice. Really, the best way to prevent the spread of illness is good hand-washing. Encourage your friend to wash her hands frequently, and to have her husband wash his hands frequently, and to decontaminate commonly-touched surfaces in the home, and just keep her distance until he's all better. And if she's gotten a flu shot during her pregnancy (which pregnant women should get at any point in the pregnancy), that will also offer her protection. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Kim Kardashian has revealed her son Saint was hospitalized with pneumonia last week - but he is now 'all better'.Praising her 'resilient' two-year-old boy on Tuesday, the reality star revealed he rode an ambulance to a hospital in Los Angeles, where he was hooked up to an oxygen machine and multiple IV drips.'My precious baby boy is so strong! After spending three nights in the hospital & seeing my baby get multiple IV’s and hooked up to oxygen machines, our end of year was challenging,' the 37-year-old TV star said on Instagram.'Pneumonia is so scary. I just want to thanks every nurse & doctor out there who works so hard around the clock. We are so grateful for you all! He’s home and all better. He’s so resilient I’m sure he will still say the ambulance ride was cool! My strong Saint.'According to TMZ, Kim and her husband Kanye West took turns in staying by their son's bedside, sharing overnight duties until he was released from the hospital on Saturday.Within minutes of Kim posting her news on Instagram, Google searches for 'pneumonia' had sky-rocketed.Here, we explain how pneumonia affects children, why it can be so hard to spot, and how it can be treated.WHY IS PNEUMONIA HARD TO SPOT IN KIDS?It is common for a child's pneumonia infection to be severe by the time it is spotted.Pneumonia, an infection that causes inflamed and fluid-filled lungs, can be is life-threatening for children, since their immune systems are not yet fully developed. However, while children have a higher risk of pneumonia, their symptoms tend to be more subtle.Adults tend to display clear symptoms of a dry cough and high fever.Children, meanwhile, may experience a headache, fatigue, and a low-grade fever.Once it progresses past the 'mild' stage to 'moderate', symptoms include a sore throat, a blocked nose, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lack of energy.Severe pneumonia, the far more serious stage, is typified by wheezing, sweating or chills and blue lips, and this requires hospitalization. The risk is higher for kids who have asthma or haven't received all their vaccinations, but all children are susceptible since their immune systems are underdeveloped.HOW IS IT TREATED?A doctor's course of action depends on the type of pneumonia - whether it was contracted from a virus or bacteria. The doctor will perform a test to determine which one it is.If it is bacterial pneumonia, it can be treated with antibiotics in hospital, sometimes delivered intravenously. In the case of viral pneumonia, the patient will often be sent home, ordered to take Tamiflu, rest up, and drink lots of water.Other types of pneumonia include fungal pneumonia, which is treated with antifungal medication, and aspiration pneumonia, when stomach contents are inhaled into the lungs. This may require a surgical procedure.Saint West was also treated with an oxygen machine, since the infection can impair the lungs and make independent breathing strained or difficult.PARENTS URGED TO BE ON THE LOOK-OUT THIS DEADLY AutoNews- Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-5229923/Explained-Saint-Kardashian-Wests-pneumonia.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

http://jtpharmacy.e-trusted.com/product.php?prod=Tamiflu What is swine flu? Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen. Swine flu viruses have been reported to spread from person-to-person, but in the past, this transmission was limited and not sustained beyond three people. Are there human infections with swine flu in the U.S.? In late March and early April 2009, cases of human infection with swine influenza A (H1N1) viruses were first reported in Southern California and near Guadalupe County, Texas. Other U.S. states have reported cases of swine flu infection in humans and cases have been reported internationally as well. An updated case count of confirmed swine flu infections in the United States is kept at http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/investigation.htm CDC and local and state health agencies are working together to investigate this situation. Is this swine flu virus contagious? CDC has determined that this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. However, at this time, it is not known how easily the virus spreads between people. What are the signs and symptoms of swine flu in people? The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions. How does swine flu spread? Spread of this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is thought to be happening in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose. Can I get swine influenza from eating or preparing pork? No. Swine influenza viruses are not spread by food. You cannot get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe. How can someone with the flu infect someone else? Infected people may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 7 or more days after becoming sick. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. What should I do to keep from getting the flu? First and most important: wash your hands. Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Try not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Are there medicines to treat swine flu? Yes. CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir (tamiflu) for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with these swine influenza viruses. Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines (pills, liquid or an inhaler) that fight against the flu by keeping flu viruses from reproducing in your body. If you get sick, antiviral drugs can make your illness milder and make you feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick (within 2 days of symptoms). For tamiflu orders http://jtpharmacy.e-trusted.com/product.php?prod=Tamiflu

Treatment of swine flu depends on which category of patients. The first category is people with a cold or cough or a blocked nose or a running nose. They are given symptomatic treatment. So, for fever, they will get paracetamol, for cold or cough, decongestants medicines or drops, anti allergic medicines, etc. It is important to breathe from the nose as otherwise, cold air goes to the lungs and the nose cleanses the air.. nnThe next category is when the fever is very high or prolonged. Cough is very severe and the patient is getting tired, not able to stand, walk or eat. These patients are given tamiflu only if they are in the high risk category.. nnTamiflu is an anti viral drug which is available as a capsule or syrup and it works by killing the virus. The next category is patients with severe pneumonia. If you have pneumonia, you will have low oxygen levels, you will not be able to eat and you will be hospitalized. They are given tamiflu and then hospitalized. Tamiflu works best if the treatment is started as early as possible preferably within forty eight hours. It reduces the severity and the duration of disease..

Colloidal Silver Benefits against Antibiotic resistant ZIKA, Viruses, Superbugs, Flu, http://colloidal.n-ergetics.com 580 889 6486 Colloidal silver has been used to address infections due to yeast, viruses, fungi & bacteria (tuberculosis, Lyme disease, bubonic plague, pneumonia, leprosy, gonorrhea, syphilis, scarlet fever, stomach ulcers, cholera, parasites ringworm, malaria pneumonia, herpes, shingles, and warts) for hundreds of years. Unlike penicillin, bacteria are not resistant to silver, while colloidal silver can destroy antibiotic-resistant pathogens, even the dreaded MRSA. The medical world is distraught over the lack of options to battle Superbugs. Colloidal silver does not give the pathogen a chance to mutate as it kills the pathogen on contact at the first exposure. There are no known virus or bacteria that is resistant to colloidal silver. Doctors are once again looking to make colloidal silver a prescription so a huge price can be attached and passed on to the consumer. Natural supplements are the last remedies passed on by a doctor as he or she can make no money on these remedies. Silver eliminates anaerobic pathogens by destroying the enzymes that fend off oxygen molecules, thus oxidizing them to death. The silver particles neutralize the majority of aerobic pathogens by disrupting their ability to use oxygen. Because the silver particles (colloids) have strong positive charges, they are attracted to or attract negatively charged microbes, including viruses. This allows the bodies own immune system to become more effective at removing these residue pathogens, and thereby become more effective at fending off disease. ________________________________ Expert: Dr. Dean Mitchell, M.D. Website: http://www.mitchellmedicalgroup.com Location: NYC & Long Island Bio: For over 25 years, Dr. Mitchell has specialized in leaky gut, candida and immunology in NYC. Nashville, Tenn -- Kay Barry got her flu shot last October at the Green Hills Kroger. Today she feels lucky to still be flu free. This year's flu shot is less effective than years past so many who got it are still getting sick. "My grandchildren are two of em and they did have the flu shot but they got something," said Barry. Here in Nashville that something is spreading strong right now. Hospitals are getting close to their bed limit. Walgreens ranks Nashville 5th in the country for flu activity. Kroger pharmacist Mike Clepper says the orders for Tamiflu have been going strong all week and at times this season too strong. "We've had days where it's run out and it's taken us several days to get some more back in. You run into those issues when all of a sudden the flu hits certain areas of the country," said Clepper. Despite the outbreak, doctors say there are still good reasons to get a flu shot even now. Vanderbilt Medical Center Dr. William Schaffner says the shot may still provide a benefit for people like Barry's grandchildren, who get the flu after getting the vaccine. "Your severity of the illness may well be reduced. It may be briefer and you're much less likely to get the complications of influenza pneumonia, hospitalization and dying," said Schaffner.

It sounds like you had the flu shot before you got pregnant but about two weeks ago you had a case of the flu and you're wondering what if any effects this might have on your baby and if you should tell your doctor. You should bring it up for your OB provider because it's actually recommended for pregnant women who get the flu, sometimes they should be treated with anti-viral medications. The effects of mom's having the flu while they're pregnant, the effects of that on the baby have not been well studied. But it has been documented; there have been babies that have had issues because of it. It does put babies at higher risk for cleft lip, congenital heart defects, and neural tube defects. If the mother has a really high fever while she has the flu that can also cause issues for the baby as well. It's not likely that it's caused an issue but I would definitely talk to your OB provider and decide if they feel like any other investigation or treatment is necessary. Good luck with everything and if you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

__Swine flu and pregnancy__ Swine flu is a highly contagious respiratory disease. Pregnant women are at a higher risk of complications from swine flu, especially during the first and second trimesters because of: • A weakened immune system during pregnancy • Increased pressure on the breathing and lung function on account of the growing fetus thereby, making them more susceptible to secondary infections such as pneumonia Symptoms • Fever (in most cases) • Dry cough • Sore throat • Runny or stuffy nose • Body aches • Headaches • Chills Risk during Pregnancy • Pregnant women with flu have a higher risk of premature delivery or spontaneous abortion • In case of severe infections, the virus could infect the placenta which carries blood to the fetus • If left untreated, swine flu can have severe adverse outcomes including threat to the lives of both mother and the fetus Treatment • Swine flu during pregnancy is treated administering antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu (oseltamivir) or Relenza (zanamivir). The antiviral treatment can be done at any state of pregnancy • Apart from the medicine, supportive care includes: - Getting lots of rest - Drinking plenty of fluids - Isolating the patient to reduce further exposure to the virus/ infection Important Information If the mother is infected with swine flu right before delivery or when the baby is a newborn, a surgical mask should be placed on her (a) during labor and delivery; and (b) during breastfeeding so as not to infect the newborn. When the mother is on antiviral medication, it is considered safe to breastfeed provided she has been on the medication for at least 48 hours beforehand. Prevention • Getting a flu shot is the best method of prevention against swine flu. Note that in case of pregnant women, inactivated vaccine should be administered. Live vaccine is not recommended as the immune system is already suppressed during pregnancy • Avoid contact with infected people. Do not go to crowded places and avoid visiting public places • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth so that infection is not contracted by touching an infected surface • Wash your hands frequently through the day with warm water and soap; or with an alcohol based hand sanitiser • To ensure that you are not spreading the virus, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and dispose it after use Call your doctor 1. As soon as you notice flu-like symptoms. The treatment is more effective if started early 2. If you have come in close contact with someone who has flu or flu-like symptoms Team Ovum Hospitals

Basic health procedures from the World Health Organization. http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/faq/en/index.html#q11 How can I protect myself from getting swine influenza from infected people? In the past, human infection with swine influenza was generally mild but is known to have caused severe illness such as pneumonia For the current outbreaks in the United States and Mexico however, the clinical pictures have been different. None of the confirmed cases in the United States have had the severe form of the disease and the patients recovered from illness without requiring medical care. In Mexico, some patients reportedly had the severe form of the disease. To protect yourself, practice general preventive measures for influenza: •Avoid close contact with people who appear unwell and who have fever and cough. •Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly. •Practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active. If there is an ill person at home: •Try to provide the ill person a separate section in the house. If this is not possible, keep the patient at least 1 meter in distance from others. •Cover mouth and nose when caring for the ill person. Masks can be bought commercially or made using the readily available materials as long as they are disposed of or cleaned properly. •Wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly after each contact with the ill person. •Try to improve the air flow in the area where the ill person stays. Use doors and windows to take advantage of breezes. •Keep the environment clean with readily available household cleaning agents. If you are living in a country where swine influenza has caused disease in humans, follow additional advice from national and local health authorities.

Swine Flu Is Deadly Mix Of Never-Before-Seen Viruses Posted By admin On April 25, 2009 @ 2:39 pm In Featured Stories | 405 Comments Paul Joseph Watson Infowars April 25, 2009 Swine flu panic is spreading in Mexico and soldiers are patrolling the streets after it was confirmed that human to human transmission is occurring and that the virus is a brand new strain which is seemingly affecting young, healthy people the worst, and that the bug is a never-before-seen intercontinental mixture of human, avian and pig viruses from America, Europe and Asia. Clues that the virus may be a synthetic creation are already manifesting. According to reports, the virus is a never-before-seen form of the flu that combines pig, bird and human viruses which consists of an intercontinental mix of viruses from North America, Europe and Asia. CDC officials detected a virus with a unique combination of gene segments that have not been seen in people or pigs before, according to an Associated Press report. This strain of swine influenza thats beencultured in a laboratoryis something thats not been seen anywhere actually in the United States and the world, so this is actually a new strain of influenza thats been identified, said Dr. John Carlo, Dallas Co. Medical Director (video clip here). Alarming reports are now filtering in about people catching the illness who have had no contact with pigs whatsoever. These include a man and his daughter in San Diego County, a 41-year-old woman in Imperial County and two teenagers in San Antonio, Texas. In fact, in all U.S. cases, the victims had no contact with any pigs. Dr. Wilma Wooten, San Diego Countys public health officer, told KPBS We have had person-to-person spread with the father and the daughter, says Wooten, And also with the two teenagers in Texas, they were in the same school. So that also indicates person-to-person transfer. Dr. Wooten says its unclear how people were exposed to swine flu. She says none of the patients have had any contact with pigs, according to the report. Although the situation in the U.S. looks under control, panic is spreading in Mexico, where 800 cases of pneumonia in the capital alone are suspected to be related to the swine flu and the virus has hit young and healthy people, which is very rare with an flu outbreak. Despite the danger of a pandemic, the U.S. border with Mexico remains open. Mexico has shut schools and museums and canceled hundreds of public events in its sprawling, overcrowded capital of 20 million people to try to prevent further infections, reports Reuters. My level of concern is significant, said Dr. Martin Fenstersheib, the health officer for Santa Clara County. We have a novel virus, a brand-new strain thats spreading human to human, and we are also seeing a virulent strain in Mexico that seems to be related. We certainly have concerns for this escalating. The WHO insists that the outbreak has pandemic potential and has been stockpiling supplies of Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, a pill that can both treat flu and prevent infection, according to officials. As we previously highlighted, those that have a stake in the Tamiflu vaccine include top globalists and BIlderberg members like George Shultz, Lodewijk J.R. de Vink and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Indeed, Rumsfeld himself played a key role in hyping an outbreak of swine flu back in the 1976 when he urged the entire country to get vaccinated. Many batches of the vaccine were contaminated, resulting in hundreds of sick people and 52 fatalities. The fact that the properties of the strain are completely new, that the virus is spreading from people to people, and that the young and healthy are being hit worst, has disturbing parallels to the deadly 1918 pandemic that killed millions. It is unclear as to why, if the virus is a brand new strain, that public health officials are so confident programs of mass vaccination, which are already being prepared, would necessarily be effective. It certainly wouldnt be the first time that deadly flu viruses have been concocted in labs and then dispatched with the intention of creating a pandemic. When the story first broke last month, Czech newspapers questioned if the shocking discovery of vaccines contaminated with the deadly avian flu virus which were distributed to 18 countries by the American company Baxter were part of a conspiracy to provoke a pandemic. Since the probability of mixing a live virus biological weapon with vaccine material by accident is virtually impossible, this leaves no other explanation than that the contamination was a deliberate attempt to weaponize the H5N1 virus to its most potent extreme and distribute it via conventional flu vaccines to the population who would then infect others to a devastating degree as the disease went airborne. However, this is not the first time that vaccine companies have been caught distributing vaccines contaminated with deadly viruses.
