In a speech on Tuesday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said the International Monetary Fund had 'criminal responsibility' for Greece’s financial situation, according to Bloomberg. His comments come as Greece and its lenders remain deadlocked in their debt negotiations. But Dr. Dennis Novy, Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick said there is some truth in Tsipras statement ‘in that Greece was really forced to its knees because of the austerity program imposed by the IMF and European Union Commission.’ Novy pointed out the Greek economy went down by 25% since the last peak and that unemployment also stands at about 25%. ‘These are horrible numbers they are Great Depression level and Greece is in a big mess to some extent because of the imposed austerity. So I can understand there’s a lot of anger on the Greek side,’ said Novy. But he added Greece is also responsible ‘for the mess that they’re in.’ Novy added the financial bleeding of Greece will continue, with the stock market down substantially and more people pulling their money out of Greek bank accounts, creating a serious risk of a liquidity crisis in Greece. ‘Even if Greece does get a new bailout package in the next couple of days, this will continue for years and years, because the Greek economy has to recover,’ said Novy. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the BP oil disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the Macondo blowout) is an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which flowed unabated for three months in 2010, and may be continuing to seep. It is the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry. The spill stemmed from a sea-floor oil gusher that resulted from the 20 April 2010 explosion of Deepwater Horizon, which drilled on the BP-operated Macondo Prospect. The explosion killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others. On 15 July 2010, the gushing wellhead was capped, after it had released about 4.9 million barrels (780,000 m3) of crude oil. An estimated 53,000 barrels per day (8,400 m3/d) escaped from the well just before it was capped. It is believed that the daily flow rate diminished over time, starting at about 62,000 barrels per day (9,900 m3/d) and decreasing as the reservoir of hydrocarbons feeding the gusher was gradually depleted. On 19 September 2010, the relief well process was successfully completed, and the federal government declared the well "effectively dead". In August 2011, oil and oil sheen covering several square miles of water were reported surfacing not far from BP's Macondo well. Scientific analysis confirmed the oil is a chemical match for Macondo 252. The Coast Guard said the oil was too dispersed to recover. In March 2012, a "persistent oil seep" near the Macondo 252 well was reported. The spill caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf's fishing and tourism industries. Skimmer ships, floating containment booms, anchored barriers, sand-filled barricades along shorelines, and dispersants were used in an attempt to protect hundreds of miles of beaches, wetlands, and estuaries from the spreading oil. Scientists also reported immense underwater plumes of dissolved oil not visible at the surface as well as an 80-square-mile (210 km²) "kill zone" surrounding the blown well. In late November 2010, 4,200 square miles (11,000 km²) of the Gulf were re-closed to shrimping after tar balls were found in shrimpers' nets. The amount of Louisiana shoreline affected by oil grew from 287 miles (462 km) in July to 320 miles (510 km) in late November 2010. In January 2011, an oil spill commissioner reported that tar balls continue to wash up, oil sheen trails are seen in the wake of fishing boats, wetlands marsh grass remains fouled and dying, and crude oil lies offshore in deep water and in fine silts and sands onshore. A research team found oil on the bottom of the seafloor in late February 2011 that did not seem to be degrading. On 26 May 2011, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality extended the state of emergency related to the oil spill. By 9 July 2011, roughly 491 miles (790 kilometers) of coastline in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida remained contaminated by BP oil, according to a NOAA spokesperson. In October 2011, a NOAA report stated that dolphins and whales continue to die at twice the normal rate. In April 2012, scientists reported finding alarming numbers of mutated crab, shrimp and fish they believe to be the result of chemicals released during the oil spill. Tar balls continue to wash up along the Gulf coast two years after the spill began. In April 2012, oil was found dotting 200 miles of Louisiana's coast. In October, 2012, the United States Coast Guard confirmed that samples taken from a new oil sheen at the site of the spill were from the Deepwater Horizon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill

(4 Jun 2012) Will Greece be forced out of the Euro, or won't it? That's the question underlying the country's seemingly endless debt crisis. The answer is still unclear but if it does have to re-adopt a national currency what will it mean for its people and for its prospects of recovery? The drachma: just a memory for many Greeks, or, as at this street market in Athens, a collectible. But in the months ahead it - or something like it - could become a currency again; Greece out of the Euro and back to its own devices. For Vassilis Kapsis that's a frightening prospect. He hasn't worked since last September when the shop that employed him closed down. Keeping a roof over the head of his young family is already hard enough; paying utility bills is almost impossible and he believes a return to the drachma would spell disaster, especially for young families like his own. He may be right. This week a Bank of Greece report said a new national currency would be devalued by 65 percent, hitting the lowest paid the hardest. Inflation would rise from 2 percent to 30 percent and unemployment hit 34 percent. Jason Manolopoulos, a hedge-fund manager and author of "Greece's Odious Debt" foresees chaos if the the new currency were introduced concluding "the government effectively would run out of financing." "The food industry can only cater for 52 percent of the internal consumer needs. Who's going to guarantee the additional 48 percent when there isn't going to be a banking sector that will be able to guarantee these transactions?" he said. But wouldn't Greek industry benefit? A devalued national currency could make it more competitive, aiding exports and helping lift Greece out of debt. That's not necessarily the case for lighting companies like Bright, one of Greece's most successful firms. They export to 35 countries but 30 percent of the components for their lights are imported. For managers here the idea of renewed competitiveness is a myth. Every area of Greek life could see severe shortages, at least to begin with. Greece relies on imported medicines for its pharmacies and hospitals. The Athens Chamber of Commerce believes 136,000 businesses will go bust within months if Greece re-adopts a national currency, its President predicting "severe problems" with a return to the drachma. The only sector to gain may be tourism. It's already the country's biggest industry. A low value drachma could see visitor numbers surge. "Case-studies in managing high risk and business continuity for NHS Hospitals projects from MEH Facilities" In the world of building maintenance and refurbishment one of the toughest challenges has to be working within a modern hospital environment where millions of pounds of patient services depend on how building services are delivered. So just how do you go about doing a major refurbishment alongside a busy working NHS hospital where the highest standards of compliance, safety and quality need to be maintained whilst major building works are carried out? One company stands out in this complex high risk environment MEH Facilities Ltd, with a substantial number of years experience working within NHS Estates and with unchallenged experience towards meeting their exacting standards of workmanship and quality whilst maintaining services and medical priority. Here are three areas they always focus on to help assure success and control the risk on complex Hospital projects: Firstly, planning and change control: Preparation and planning is the key to success in sustaining service in any hospital. So MEH Facilities submit CAD working drawings and Technical Submittals before they commence on site. These are backed up by thorough site inspections to verify these plans reflect the actual works. For example record drawings raised for approval and auditing on site before ceilings are closed in. Then MEH Facilities put change controls in place and update as the project progresses. The key to success is ensuring transparency by communicating all changes and variations by using the building database, cross referenced with drawings and with all the planned changes for clarity of audit. Secondly, ensuring end user service and business continuity: Perhaps the biggest challenge is keeping a hospital operational with adequate heating and hot water. MEH Facilities have proven their ability in this field for example, at Mile End Hospital they were able to keep the heating and hot water services operational at all times whilst decentralising the hospitals major boiler room and created a number of smaller boiler houses around the site. And it's not just the boilers that need alternative backup you also need to know how to replace hot and cold water service pipelines whilst maintaining all services as MEH Facilities are currently doing at Kingston Hospitals Esher Block with pipe sizes from 219 mm within this 500 bed block. Finally you need teams of experienced engineers facing these day to day challenges with ISO 9001 processes in place and culture that goes the extra mile to exceed requirements for quality assurance. So if you would like more tips like these visit the series of NHS Hospital case studies on the Healthcare section of our website http:/www.mehltd.co.uk/sector/healthcare/ or if you want help in controlling the risk on complex Hospital or other high risk projects call us on 020 8534 4441 or email us any time on firstname.lastname@example.org

Reverse shot of Clinton talking to ministers during lunch STORYLINE: Ministers from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies began meeting in Singapore on Wednesday to discuss free trade and the global financial crisis. The finance and foreign ministers gathered at this week's annual APEC meeting will be mulling over ways to keep economic recovery going once lavish stimulus spending ebbs. They have warned that signs of recovery in the global economy are merely a respite and future growth hinges on freer trade and improved social safety nets in Asia. Any backsliding on trade liberalisation would be disastrous for a world economy still emerging from economic crisis, said summit host George Yeo, the foreign minister of Singapore. Still, like other leaders, he acknowledged that consensus for a global agreement remained elusive. On Tuesday, Singapore already broached the issue with an ambitious call for an Asia-Pacific free trade area that would comprise about half of global trade. The forum of the ministers culminates this weekend with a summit of heads of state from APEC's 21economies. Among the leaders attending the November 14-15 leaders' summit will be US President Barack Obama, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, who lead the three biggest economies in the world. Fellow APEC leaders will be looking to Obama, visiting Asia for the first time since he took office in January, to map out the US strategy on global trade after a year devoted to crisis control and domestic distractions. With US unemployment at a 26-year high of 10.2 percent, American consumers lack the appetite for the sort of credit-fuelled splurges that kept the last boom afloat. The priority now is to find ways to ensure economies do not relapse once massive stimulus spending has run its course. At the summit, leaders are also expected to tell Myanmar's military junta to hold credible and fair elections in which pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi can participate, according to a document obtained on Wednesday by The Associated Press. The statement was to be issued at the end of the summit, according to officials who prepared the document. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has called for a peace plan for war-torn Yemen that includes humanitarian aid, dialogue and the formation of a broad-based Yemeni government after a proposed cease-fire already rejected by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes in Yemen against the Houthi rebels who control the capital, Sanaa. Zarif in a visit to Madrid Tuesday did not address Saudi claims that Tehran has been giving the Houthis military support. He says no preconditions as to who would run Yemen can be imposed before dialogue begins with the country's different factions, because doing so "will prolong the disaster." http://feeds.foxnews.com/~r/foxnews/world/~3/vlkj-HjED48/ http://www.wochit.com

Ban Ki-moon leaving Inter-American Development Bank Haiti - FILE (date unknown) 11. Various of Haitians in their daily lives STORYLINE US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday urged international donors to provide desperately needed money to Haiti as the Western Hemisphere's poorest country struggles to recover from last year's devastating hurricanes and food riots. Clinton, who is to visit Haiti on Thursday, told a conference of more than 30 donor countries and international organisations that giving Haiti help during a period of global financial turmoil is a "test of resolve and commitment" to those in dire need. The United States, Clinton said, is providing nearly 290 (m) million US dollars in non-emergency aid to Haiti this year. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Haiti is at a critical moment and will either slide backward into deeper poverty and misery or move forward with the help of world donors. The donor plan emerged after political turmoil and natural disasters hit Haiti, which had uncharacteristically enjoyed three consecutive years of economic growth and improved stability, the Inter-American Development Bank said. That progress was interrupted when last April's riots over high food prices overthrew the prime minister. Months later, the country was pummelled by four storms that left nearly 800 people dead, caused 1 (b) billion US dollars in damage and halted economic growth. Australian and Dutch diplomats joined forces to promote a plan for a UN team to secure the crash scene of Malaysia Airlines flight 17, which has been controlled by pro-Russian seperatists. Australia's foreign minister Julie Bishop and her Dutch counterpart Frans Timmermans met with Ukraine's foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin in Kiev on Thursday. Addressing the media after the meeting Klimkin said an agreement had been reached, and now the top priority was to ensure "full access to the crash site... the transparent and effective investigation, and of course to recover all the possible remnants." All 298 people aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 - most of them Dutch citizens - were killed when the plane was downed on July 17. US officials say the Boeing 777 was probably shot down by a missile, most likely by accident. Honeywell helped to restore utilities and rebuild in Lyons, CO after persistent heavy rains caused devastating flooding in September 2013. After the flooding knocked all utility services – water, sewer, gas and electric – off-line, local Honeywell employees work tirelessly until all utilities were restored, specifically helping restore the waste water services to 80 percent of the town residents and businesses within 45 days, unheard of when such devastation hits a community. A year later, Honeywell led a volunteer project to cap off months of recovery work in Lyons, an event organized by Honeywell Hometown Solutions. On November 8, approximately 30 Honeywell employees joined other community volunteers to provide improvements and renovations at the Lyons Town Hall Plaza, working to create a public space outside the Lyons Town Hall that can accommodate outdoor meetings as well as provide a positive outdoor experience for town visitors and staff. Pardon the language as I try to get the badly trimmed plane back on the ground on my first ever R/C flight. Didn't mean to take off. Was just planning on rolling up to take-off speed and power back down but before I realized it, it was up in the air! Just wanted to get it back around and land it safely and almost did a couple of times but ran out of room once and almost hit my wife on the other! :o( It was SO unstable as I fought constantly to try to keep the plane level. The ailerons weren't neutral (found post-crash) and that caused it to slip into three rolls. The first two I recovered from by looping the plane around but on the third I was too close to the ground to recover from it and bounced it off the freshly paved asphalt breaking the prop and jamming the engine back into the Styrofoam nose of the plane breaking the nose and the engine mount. Simulator software was nowhere even close to what it was like ACTUALLY flying the plane ! New parts ordered and lessons learned. It will be back in the air again...

English/Nat Southeast Asian finance ministers said on Saturday they needed more help from the world's wealthy nations - the United States, Japan and Europe - to enable Asia to recover from its worst economic crisis in decades. The ministers, from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, who met in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Saturday, also discussed the possibility of setting up a supervisory body to keep an eye on the region's turbulent economies. The nine members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations came together to discuss ways they could help pull each other out of the regional economic slump which began last year. They are keen to protect and promote trade between ASEAN members which accounts for more than one-hundred-and-50-billion (b) U-S dollars annually. Malaysia has proposed a system which bypasses the dollar and allows goods to be traded between ASEAN nations in local currencies. The Philippines has backed the proposal, but Thailand remains sceptical. No firm decision on the issue was reached on Saturday. Another suggestion raised at the meeting was a plan to create a body which would supervise inflation, lending practices and capital movement around the region. That plan was endorsed during November's APEC meeting, and came a step closer to fruition on Saturday. Despite all the talk of Asian countries aiding other Asian countries, there were also calls for help from the U-S and Europe. The Indonesian Finance Minister Ma'rie Mohammed called on the United States to encourage more investment in the Southeast Asian region and urged U-S banks to open more lines of credit and provide other assistance to troubled Asian countries. He criticised European countries for what he called a protectionist attitude, and for not doing enough to help Southeast Asian countries in difficulty. Ma'rie also pledged that his country would work closely with industrialised nations to speed recovery. SOUNDBITE: (English) "As the other colleagues expressed their concern about Indonesia, we will hand by hand cooperate closely with international agencies - the World Bank, I-M-F, E-D-B and other countries, including G-7 and overcome the situation in the region, including Indonesia." SUPER CAPTION: Ma'rie Mohammed, Indonesian Finance Minister Indonesia's economy has been the worst hit of the ASEAN nations. Stock markets in the country have plummeted in recent months. And with its huge population of over two-hundred million (m), it has had a profound knock-on effect on its neighbours. It is hoped that the 43 billion (b) U-S dollar I-M-F bailout it has received will create favourable conditions for a long-term recovery for the island nation. But the I-M-F loan came attached to conditions stipulating harsh economic reforms in Indonesia, which are bound to be unpopular with local people. Soaring food prices have sparked riots and demonstrations across the country. However, agreements to keep the price of cooking oil and rice low are thought to be having a positive effect. Officials are also hoping to quell the unrest by bolstering the rupiah, which has lost 70 per cent of its value in the past seven months. One immediate remedy could be a currency board, which would fix a value for the rupiah to the dollar. That plan has met widespread international opposition. ASEAN members did not want to comment on the plan, and Ma'rie indicated institution of the scheme could still be a long way off. SOUNDBITE: (English) "To put the currency board into success, needs preparation so that we can build a credible currency bond." SUPER CAPTION: Ma'rie Mohammed, Indonesian Finance Minister SOUNDBITE: (English) Question: "There is a lot of concern about Indonesia backsliding on those issues." The Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveillance aircraft. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical (now part of Northrop Grumman), and known as Tier II+ during development. In role and operational design, the Global Hawk is similar to the Lockheed U-2. The RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas. It can survey as much as 40,000 square miles (100,000 km2) of terrain a day. The Global Hawk is operated by the United States Air Force and U.S. Navy. It is used as a high-altitude platform for surveillance and security. Missions for the Global Hawk cover the spectrum of intelligence collection capability to support forces in worldwide military operations. According to the United States Air Force, the superior surveillance capabilities of the aircraft allow more precise weapons targeting and better protection of friendly forces. Cost overruns have led to the original plan to acquire 63 aircraft being cut to 45, and to a 2013 proposal to mothball the 21 Block 30 signal-intelligence variants. Each aircraft was to cost US$35 million in 2005, but this had risen to $222.7M per aircraft (including development costs) by 2013. The U.S. Navy has developed the Global Hawk into the MQ-4C Triton version for maritime surveillance. This video is targeted to blind users.
