Clonazepam vs. Xanax Is There a Difference. Overview: Anxiety disorders can cause emotional and physical symptoms that can disrupt your everyday life. Emotional symptoms of anxiety disorders include feelings of fear, apprehension, and irritability. Among the physical symptoms are: *pounding heartbeat. *shortness of breath. *stomach and digestive problems. *headaches. *tremors and twitching. *numbness or tingling of the hands and feet. *sleep problems and fatigue. Anxiety disorders can be treated, though. Treatment usually requires a combination of methods, including medication. To treat your anxiety, your doctor may recommend clonazepam or Xanax. How they work: Clonazepam is a generic drug. It’s also sold as the brand-name drug Klonopin. Xanax, on the other hand, is a brand-name version of the drug alprazolam. Both clonazepam and Xanax are central nervous system (CNS) depressants and are classified as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines affect gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a key chemical messenger in your brain. These drugs cause nerve impulses throughout your body to slow down, leading to a calming effect. What they treat: Both drugs treat anxiety disorders, including panic attacks in adults. Clonazepam also treats seizures in adults and children. The effectiveness and safety of Xanax has not been established in children, on the other hand. Cost: How much you’ll pay for a prescription drug can vary depending on where you live, your pharmacy, and your health insurance plan. Generally speaking, generic versions are significantly less expensive than brand name versions. That means clonazepam will likely be cheaper than Xanax. Side effects: There are a lot of potential side effects of benzodiazepines, but you’re unlikely to have more than a few. For most people, the side effects are mild and tolerable. They usually occur early on and subside as your body gets used to the drug. The most common side effects are light-headedness and drowsiness. These can impair your ability to drive. If you feel lightheaded or sleepy while taking either of these drugs, don’t drive or operate dangerous equipment. It’s possible to have an allergic reaction to both clonazepam and Xanax. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, itching, or skin rash. If you develop swelling of the face, tongue, or throat or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately. Interactions: Taking other CNS depressants with clonazepam or Xanax can intensify their intended effects. Mixing these substances is dangerous and can cause loss of consciousness. In some cases, it can be fatal. Other CNS depressants include: *sedatives and sleeping pills. *tranquilizers and mood stabilizers. *muscle relaxants. *seizure medications. *prescription pain medications. *alcohol. *marijuana. *antihistamines. You can find detailed lists of interacting substances for both drugs in the interactions for Xanax and clonazepam. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the medications you take, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, and ask about potentially dangerous interactions. If you get even one prescription of a benzodiazepine medication like klonopin (clonazepam), valium (diazepam), xanax (alprazolam), and ativan (lorazepam), etc. your brain will likely become physically dependent on them after a few weeks use and you could end up like me here or worse. You could end up with countless pill bottles of something that might be helping for a couple weeks, but then it stops working as well and you then up the dose. You get your dose high enough to where your breathing starts to become too depressed. Then you decide you want to come off the meds. But guess what, you can't just stop them. No, you are in for what is going to likely be over a year of trying to taper off your medication because even the smallest cut in dose is going to bring complete hell of withdrawal side effects. These meds change the gaba properties in your brain, the chemical that helps calm your nervous system. When you start cutting the benzo medication out, your brain takes it harshly and takes a long time to adjust back to controlling gaba on its own again. Please trust me when I say do not touch a benzo unless its your last hope. You may end up like me, or countless other people duped by their doctors into getting hooked on something that you are given no warning about its effects both during use and the complete hell of trying to come off of them.

http://w-bad.org ► Are you or someone you know or love taking (or thinking about starting) a benzodiazepine or Z-drug? Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium, Librium, and others) as well as Z-drugs (Ambien, Lunesta and others), which are similar, have the most debilitating withdrawal reactions in all of medicine. This happens in regular, everyday people who are taking the medications exactly as their doctor prescribed. It also happens to people on what they think are “low doses” and is not just a “high dose” problem. This happens because the prescribing guidelines for this class of drug recommend short-term (less than 2-4 weeks) use only, yet doctors are prescribing them for much longer. Even worse, these unsuspecting patients are given no warning (or informed consent) by their doctor about these risks and dangers before taking the prescription past the recommended timeline. The patients think the drugs are “safe” because they are prescribed when they are actually quite dangerous medications that are capable of inflicting sometimes severe and life-threatening withdrawal syndromes which are known, for some people, to persist for many years. Experts and studies estimate that as many as sixty percent of people taking benzodiazepines (such as Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium) and/or Z-drugs (aka nonbenzodiazepines, like Ambien) for more than the recommended 2-4 week time period will develop physical dependence, adverse effects, and withdrawal? 60% is actually a conservative percentage, as some other sources indicate that "50-80% of people regularly taking benzodiazepines (even in ‘low dose’) for longer than a few months will develop a physical tolerance to the drug and become dependent, resulting in difficulty stopping benzodiazepines because of withdrawal symptoms". 30% of long-term users will experience severe withdrawal or adverse effects which may include seizures, hallucinations, psychosis, akathisia, and sometimes suicide or death (people are especially at risk for severe withdrawal if they over-rapidly taper or cold-turkey their benzodiazepine/Z-drug). The tapers to discontinue these medications, once you’ve taken them past 2-4 weeks and depending on dose, can last many months or years (please see http://w-bad.org/slow-tapering-protocols/ for slow tapering protocol guidance). About 10-15% of people who withdraw will develop a protracted withdrawal syndrome which can potentially persist for many years (there are anecdotal reports of it persisting up to five, seven, and even ten years post-cessation.). Others, even after a slow, gradual reduction of the benzodiazepine or Z-drug will experience withdrawal that lasts for up to 18 months post-cessation. Physical dependence is a physical condition, a state of adaptation in the body caused by chronic use of a tolerance forming drug, in which abrupt or gradual drug withdrawal causes withdrawal. When someone becomes physically dependent to benzodiazepines (or Z-drugs), they are also at risk for developing tolerance. With benzodiazepines/Z-drugs, specifically, when the receptors in the brain become adapted or accustomed to the action of the original dose of BZ, more of the drug is needed in order for the desired therapeutic effect (or the original effect at the original dose) to be achieved. This means that the drug loses its effectiveness and the person taking it can begin to experience withdrawal symptoms while still taking the prescribed dose of the drug. Some common symptoms of tolerance include increasing anxiety, panic attacks, development of agoraphobia for the first time, interdose withdrawal (withdrawal symptoms emerging in between doses), as well as a plethora of other physical/neurological/psychological symptoms. This professional and powerful video features the words and voices of real, actual victims of these medications and their families and gives a firsthand look at the devastation caused by the irresponsible prescription of benzodiazepines. This video offers vital information on the risks of benzodiazepine prescription past the recommended 2-4 week guidelines, which is a worldwide epidemic. By spreading the word about taken-as-prescribed benzodiazepine risks, harms, and dangers, we at W-BAD (World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day) hope to bring awareness to the general public and the medical community about this problem before more people are needlessly harmed. Please help share this video with everyone you know and, together, we can prevent more victims of iatrogenic (caused by medicine) dependence, withdrawal, and injury from prescribed benzodiazepines and Z-drugs.Find out more or join us in raising awareness with W-BAD on July 11th at http://w-bad.org Note: W-BAD does not seek to restrict access to these drugs for those who feel that they may benefit from them, nor does it seek to force anyone to stop or reduce against their own will. ►Find W-BAD on Social Media: Facebook ► @WorldBenzoDay Twitter ► @WorldBenzoDay

I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 5 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor. I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

So, I pulled out the antianxiety herbal remedies that I keep in my medicine cabinet. This is posted to help people who may be suffering from Benzo withdrawals such as; Valium, Ativan, Klonopin and Xanax, etc. Benzodiazepine is a class of drugs that suppress the central nervous system and with prolonged use and abuse could cause major withdrawal systems where an atrocious state of being is an understatement. These herbs may also be used to combat anxiety for anyone that suffers from anxiety. It is especially beneficial for those that wish to escape the pharmaceutical dangers of psychoactive drugs. I have personally been prescribed this class of drugs, have taken them for anxiety and I find these herbs; isolated or in a blend to be effective.

Benzodiazepines are commonly used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep disorders. They are thought to exert their effects in the brain by acting at receptors for the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. In this video, I cover the the mechanism of action for benzodiazepines. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to 2 minute neuroscience, where I explain neuroscience topics in 2 minutes or less. In this installment I will discuss benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are a class of drugs named for their chemical structure that are commonly used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep-related disorders. They include well-known drugs like valium, xanax, and klonopin. There are dozens of drugs in the benzodiazepine class, but the mechanism by which they all exert their effects is thought to be similar. The sedating and anxiety-reducing effects of benzodiazepines are believed to be attributable to the drugs’ actions at receptors for the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyic acid, or GABA. In particular, benzodiazepines act at a subtype of GABA receptors called the GABAa receptor; GABAa receptors that also bind benzodiazepines are sometimes called benzodiazepine receptors. When benzodiazepines bind, or attach, to the GABA receptor, they bind at a location separate from where GABA itself binds, and exert an influence over GABA binding. This type of action is called an allosteric effect, and in the case of benzodiazepines it results in increased action at the GABA receptor. There is not complete consensus on exactly how benzodiazepine binding affects activity at the GABA receptor but there is evidence to suggest that it increases the likelihood that GABA binding will activate the receptor and/or increases the effect that GABA has when it binds to the receptor. That effect is to open an ion channel and allow the passage of negatively charged chloride ions into the neuron. This influx of negatively charged ions pushes the membrane potential further from zero, or hyperpolarizes it, and makes it less likely the neuron will fire an action potential. This type of neural inhibition is the basis for the effects of benzodiazepines, for by inhibiting the activity of neurons that make up networks involved with anxiety and arousal, the drugs are able to produce calming effects. The Tranquilliser Trap Sunday 13 May 2001 Shelley Jofre investigates the spectre of tranquilliser dependency, and questions why, despite strict guidelines on their prescription, people in Britain are still prescribed them long-term. Seventeen and a half million benzodiazepine tranquilliser prescriptions were issued by GPs in 1999 and it is estimated that around one million patients are now hooked on the drugs. Panorama reveals that most patients are on repeat prescriptions and that many of them have been prescribed them for years rather than the recommended 4-week maximum. The drugs used in the short-term are beneficial for a range of symptoms. But it is widely accepted that if these drugs are prescribed beyond the 4-week maximum, they can in fact be harmful to health. This was the warning that was given to the nation's GP's by the government thirteen years ago - not to prescribe these drugs, including Valium and Mogadon, for more than four weeks, and not to provde them on repeat prescriptions. Shelley Jofre asks why GPs and psychiatrists have routinely ignored warnings about side effects and addiction. Benzodiazepines are being prescribed to all ages, from teenagers to elderly patients, across the UK. But there is little or no provision for those who want to come off the drugs. Savage Klonopin, Ativan and Poly-Drug Withdrawal footage, Benzodiazepines (benzos), from Death by Medicine a film by Gary Null.. ***Trigger Warning*** This is Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome (BWS) and this happens to too many people.. Death By Medicine takes a hard examination at the dominant medical paradigm contributing to America’s health crisis. Based on Gary Null’s ground breaking book on the hundreds of thousands of injuries and deaths caused by conventional medicine, the documentary looks at the medical industrial complex, the pharmaceutical industry’s usurpation of the nation’s medical schools, research, falsified drug clinical trials, peer reviewed scientific journals, and the complicity of federal health agencies to permit this to happen. The result is a medical system unfounded on sound science. Why is there a lack of oversight by government regulatory agencies and private interest lobbyists call the shots for national healthcare? From FDA and FBI raids on cherry and dairy farmers to the halls of Congress, we witness the hostile attack on the natural health industry. We witness what happens when a mercenary healthcare system and the failures of a just and fair healthcare policy leaves the US as the 37th healthcare system in the world. The result is the American medical system is broken and corrupted by money rather than scientific fact, and the answer is to create a new medical paradigm that addresses the health of people rather than raising of stock prices, careers and reputations. Benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome—often abbreviated to benzo withdrawal—is the cluster of symptoms that emerge when a person who has taken benzodiazepines, either medically or recreationally, and has developed a physical dependence undergoes dosage reduction or discontinuation. Development of physical dependence and/or addiction and the resulting withdrawal symptoms, some of which may last for years, may result from either drug-seeking behaviors or from taking the medication as prescribed. Benzodiazepine withdrawal is characterized by sleep disturbance, irritability, increased tension and anxiety, panic attacks, hand tremor, sweating, difficulty with concentration, confusion and cognitive difficulty, memory problems, dry retching and nausea, weight loss, palpitations, headache, muscular pain and stiffness, a host of perceptual changes, hallucinations, seizures, psychosis, and suicide (see "Signs and Symptoms" section below for full list). Further, these symptoms are notable for the manner in which they wax and wane and vary in severity from day to day or week by week instead of steadily decreasing in a straightforward monotonic manner. It is a potentially serious condition, and is complex and often protracted in time course. Long-term use, defined as daily use for at least three months, is not desirable because of the associated increased risk of dependence, dose escalation, loss of efficacy, increased risk of accidents and falls, particularly for the elderly, as well as cognitive, neurological, and intellectual impairments. Use of short-acting hypnotics, while being effective at initiating sleep, worsen the second half of sleep due to withdrawal effects. Nevertheless, long-term users of benzodiazepines should not be forced to withdraw against their will. Benzodiazepine withdrawal can be severe and can provoke life-threatening withdrawal symptoms, such as seizures, particularly with abrupt or overly rapid dosage reduction from high doses or long time users. A severe withdrawal response can nevertheless occur despite gradual dose reduction, or from relatively low doses in short time users, even after a single large dose in animal models. A minority of individuals will experience a protracted withdrawal syndrome whose symptoms may persist at a sub-acute level for months, or years after cessation of benzodiazepines. The likelihood of developing a protracted withdrawal syndrome can be minimized by a slow, gradual reduction in dosage. Chronic exposure to benzodiazepines causes neural adaptations that counteract the drug's effects, leading to tolerance and dependence. Despite taking a constant therapeutic dose, long-term use of benzodiazepines may lead to the emergence of withdrawal-like symptoms, particularly between doses. When the drug is discontinued or the dosage reduced, withdrawal symptoms may appear and remain until the body reverses the physiological adaptations. These rebound symptoms may be identical to the symptoms for which the drug was initially taken, or may be part of discontinuation symptoms. In severe cases, the withdrawal reaction may exacerbate or resemble serious psychiatric and medical conditions, such as mania, schizophrenia, and, especially at high doses, seizure disorders. Failure to recognize discontinuation symptoms can lead to false evidence for the need to take benzodiazepines, which in turn leads to withdrawal failure and reinstatement of benzodiazepines, often to higher doses. Awareness of the withdrawal reactions, individualized taper strategies according to withdrawal severity, the addition of alternative strategies such as reassurance and referral to benzodiazepine withdrawal support groups, all increase the success rate of withdrawal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzodiazepine_withdrawal_syndrome https://books.google.com/books?id=t9-vA3jzMhYC&pg=PA211&lpg=PA211&dq=ada+vs+ativan&source=bl&ots=ZM5nt_T0bg&sig=tJAIfPgOu8RRQfXiL5xCqZ9mgn0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjM1tCftJvXAhXl44MKHZx1BgUQ6AEIRjAF#v=onepage&q=ada%20vs%20ativan&f=false https://www.benzoinfo.com/
