The most important factor that affects both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is diet, and a well-planned diet can work effectively in maintaining blood glucose at healthy levels. Here we have a list of top 10 worst foods that every diabetics should avoid. White rice White rice can affect your blood sugar levels. According to a newly study published by Harvard researchers, those who ate the highest amounts of white rice had a 27% higher risk of diabetes than those who ate the least. Potatoes Potatoes are not a good food choice for diabetics due to a relatively low nutrient density and high levels of quickly absorbed carbohydrates. It has a high glycemic index value, which means that the carbohydrate in them is quickly converted to glucose when digested, and can cause blood sugar and insulin levels to rise. It is also associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Cakes and Pastries. Cakes and pastries are not good for diabetics as they are loaded with sugar, sodium, junky white flour and preservatives. Their dangerous combo of sugar and refined flour spikes blood sugar and promotes inflammation, which interferes with insulin’s ability to function properly. Soft Drinks and Energy Drinks. Comment, like, share this story. Do you LOVE junk food? Tons of people do - especially when we're kids, it's everywhere. And so, getting addicted to sugar is easy. Do you kind of HATE healthy foods like vegetables and fruit? You're not alone. Jamie, up until a few years ago, ate nothing but junk food - all the time - chips, soda, candy, anything she could find that had lots and lots of sugar, or was fried, or processed, or just plain bad for you. It was all she craved. Even though her Mom told her not to eat all that junk food, and tried to get her to eat better healthier foods, she just ignored her and went on eating whatever she wanted. And this went on for a few years, until, Jamie started having trouble hearing. She didn't think much of it, but it got bad enough so that her Mom ended up taking her to the hospital. After the nurse tested her blood sugar - which Jamie hated since she hates blood and needles - she came back with bad news. Jamie had diabetes! It was a diagnosis she did not expect nor a disease she wanted. Her Mom was concerned, but Jamie was just totally confused - she had to learn all about it fast, AND, she had to take medicine - insulin - every single day. So, with a serious fear of needles and shots, Jamie found out that she had to give herself the shots, and monitor and test her blood sugar levels on her own. It was scary, and people would look at her when she had to do it and make her feel different and uncomfortable. But the hardest part of all was that she had to stop eating all of the junk food and sugar and start eating healthy foods. As a diabetic, She had to totally change her diet. And eventually, she got used to her new diet and at making healthier choices for eating and snacking. She even got used to the shots and is really living a normal life - but she does have to take care of herself a little more carefully than most kids her age and manage her diabetes. Unfortunately, this is partly true and sadly, most of the information is completely misguided and wrong. WIth that said, let’s get right to the point and discuss today’s topic - the #1 food you should be eating with ALL of your meals, to help reduce your blood sugar, prevent and even reverse diabetes. So let’s get started: What you need to do is eat some FAT with all of your meals. However, the problem here is that people are either Eating NO fats, because they’ve been misled and brainwashed thinking it’s bad for them and it’ll make them fat. They eat the WRONG types of fats and thus, it’s making things worse and is actually the CAUSE for getting them fat and making them diabetic. So let’s discuss both of these quickly. Problem 1 - Eating NO Fats If you don’t have some fat with your meals, the carbohydrates you eat will quickly shoot up your blood sugar and thus, your insulin levels. This is NOT what you want because over time, your insulin receptors become “insensitive” and thus, your body needs to produce even MORE insulin to get the same “blood sugar lowering” effects and you eventually become diabetic. The benefit is that if you eat some healthy fats with all of your meals, you will quickly BLUNT the blood sugar spikes. This is because fat slows digestion. Thus, you’ll lower the glycemic index and load of the meal. The end result is lower blood sugar after your meals better energy levels and healthier insulin receptors Problem 2 - Eating The WRONG Fats The second problem is those who do eat fats with their meals, they eat the WRONG types of fats. So in the movie “Forks over Knives”, Dr. Greger1 states that “fat makes you insulin resistant”. This is based on studies performed in the 1930s where a group of participants ate a “fat-rich diet… in vegetable oils, butter, mayonnaise, and cream.” I’m not going to get into all the details. However, I mention this because these are NOT healthy fats. These are crappy fats. These are manmade fats. They’re fake. Not natural. These fats are treated, heated, hydrogenated and are trans-fats. YES, these fats are bad for you and will cause diabetes, in addition to dozens of other diseases and health problems. What you want to eat is some healthy fats: Raw nuts and seeds (hemp, flax, etc.) Avocados Coconut oil Extra virgin Macadamia nut and Olive oil Omega and fish oils Don’t heat your oils because it changes the structure of the molecule. And if you’re going to cook, stick with Coconut oil and macadamia nut oil. Also, fats create and improve your hormones, which is the KEY to a healthier body. By the way, you don’t need much fat with your meals. If your next meal seems hours away, choose one of these diabetic snacks to ease those hunger pains. Selecting smart between-meal munchies is simple if you're satisfied with a basic banana or apple. But sometimes our taste buds scream for something a little more fun and flavorful. This delicious recipe that will put the fun back into diabetic friendly meals. To prepare this diabetic friendly snack we need: Soaked Bengal Gram 1 Cup Finely chopped cabbage 1/2 Cup Basin flour 1/4 Cup Chopped green chili 1 Tablespoon Chopped mint leaves 2 Tablespoon Chopped spinach leaves 2 Tablespoon Turmeric powder 1 Pinch Coriander powder 1 ½ Teaspoon Low fat curd 2 Tablespoon Oil 2 Teaspoon Salt Firstly take a blender, add soaked Bengal gram, green chili and 2 tablespoons of water. Blend into coarse paste. MAKING 1. Take this coarse paste into a bowl and add cabbage, mint leaves, spinach leaves, turmeric, coriander powder, curd, salt, and basin. 2. Mix all the ingredients well and divide the mixture into 5-6 equal parts. Shape them into flat round tiki. 3. Grease a non-stick griddle with 2 teaspoon of oil, place the tiki’s and cook each over low flame using teaspoon of oil until golden brown on both sides. That’s it your delicious diabetics friendly snack is ready to consume. Serve immediately when it is hot, you can consume it with green chutney which makes your snack more delicious and yummy. Tip to Remember: Make the mixture just before cooking them and shape them one by one and directly cook them on a griddle and also do not shape the tikkis in advance. Eating bread, bagels and other refined-flour foods has been shown to significantly increase blood sugar levels in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Another study found that a meal containing a high-carb bagel not only raised blood sugar but also decreased brain function in people with type 2 diabetes and mental deficits. 2. Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Sugary beverages are the worst drink choice for someone with diabetes. Sodas and sweet drinks are high in carbs, which increase blood sugar. The primary cause of the parallel increases in obesity and diabetes is the nutrient-depleted American diet. Here is Top 5 Food To Avoid With Diabetes — the foods that elevate blood sugar, reduce insulin sensitivity and increase type 2 diabetes risk—are the foods that are most common in the standard American diet. 1. Added sugars Since diabetes is characterized by abnormally elevated blood glucose levels, of course it is wise to avoid the foods that cause dangerously high spikes in blood glucose—primarily refined foods such as sugar-sweetened beverages, devoid of fiber to slow the absorption of glucose into the blood. Fruit juices and sugary processed foods and desserts have similar effects. These foods promote hyperglycemia and insulin resistance, and promote the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the body: AGEs alter the normal, healthy function of cellular proteins, stiffen the blood vessels, accelerate aging, and promote diabetes complications. 2. Fried foods Potato chips, French fries, doughnuts and other fried starches start with a high-glycemic food, and then pile on a huge number of low-nutrient calories in the form of oil. The combination of glycemic carbs and oil is particularly potent at stimulating fat storage hormones. Plus, like other cooked starches, fried foods contain AGEs. 3. Red and processed meats Many diabetics have come to believe that if sugar and refined grains and other high-glycemic foods raise blood sugar and triglycerides, they should avoid them and eat more animal protein to keep their blood glucose levels in check. However, several studies have now confirmed that high intake of meat increases the risk of diabetes. 4. Trans fats (margarine, shortening, fast food, processed baked goods) Diabetes accelerates cardiovascular disease; because the vast majority of diabetics (more than 80 percent) die from cardiovascular disease, any food that increases cardiovascular risk will be especially problematic for those with diabetes. Trans fat intake is a strong dietary risk factor for heart disease; even a small amount of trans fat intake increases risk. 5. Refined grains (white rice and white flour products) Refined carbohydrates like white rice, white pasta, and white bread are missing the fiber from the original grain, so they raise blood glucose higher and faster than their intact, unprocessed counterparts. In a 6-year study of 65,000 women, those with diets high in refined carbohydrates from white bread, white rice, and pasta were 2.5 times as likely to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes compared to those who ate lower-GL foods such as intact whole grains and whole wheat bread. An analysis of four prospective studies on white rice consumption and diabetes found that each daily serving of white rice increased the risk of diabetes by 11%. In addition to the glucose-raising effects, cooked starchy foods also contain AGEs, which promote aging and diabetes complications.

This increases both the amount of fluid surrounding cells and the volume of blood in the bloodstream. Increased blood volume means more work for the heart and more pressure on blood vessels. Over time, the extra work and pressure can stiffen blood vessels, leading to high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. It can also lead to heart failure. There is also some evidence that too much salt can damage the heart, aorta, and kidneys without increasing blood pressure, and that it may be bad for bones, too. This product may be delicious and cheap but you should avoid it for good especially if you want to preserve your heart and overall health. South Korea is familiar by the high number of instant noodle consumers in the world. A research conveyed in this country showed that in 11,000 individuals those who consumed more instant noodles were more prone to diabetes, stroke and metabolic syndrome. Shrimp for Calorie Control Because shrimp contains relatively high amounts of cholesterol compared with other kinds of seafood, many people with diabetes who are also trying to avoid high cholesterol might skip it. But eating a healthy serving of shrimp once a week or once every two weeks won't hurt your heart or diabetes diet, especially if your overall diet is low in fat. 4. Sardines for Flavor Canned sardines are a healthy choice when you have diabetes. They're cheap and flavorful on their own - with available varieties including mustard-dill and hot pepper - or added to other dishes. Sardines are very high in calcium and vitamin D, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. This makes them an excellent food to include as part of your diabetes diet and your bone health program, as long as you read labels to find brands low in salt. They have so much flavor that you can use them sparingly as a flavoring in other dishes like soups and stews. 5. Tilapia for Protein Tilapia is a low-fat, high-protein fish that is fairly easy to find as both a fresh and frozen fillet, and it's even easier to prepare. Tilapia fillets are often thin, so they cook easily this way. A healthy prep method when you have diabetes is to use a good nonstick pan with just a little cooking spray and maybe a touch of white wine or stock. Serve fillets with a few healthy sides, like steamed or roasted veggies and brown rice or a whole-wheat roll. 6. Cod for Grilling Cod is a white fish, but it makes a slightly firmer fillet that can withstand more aggressive cooking methods such as grilling, as well as bolder seasoning. Consider marinating cod before cooking, giving it time to absorb flavors. But pay attention to the ingredients in any store-bought marinades, and skip those high in salt or sugar. 7. Other Shellfish for Portion Control The challenge of having to work to get the meat out of succulent shellfish such as crab and lobster shells makes it hard to overindulge on shellfish in your diabetes diet. Plus, shellfish is simple and healthful to prepare. Try a bay leaf seasoning in the cooking water for extra zest rather than salting the cooking liquid, and don't let diabetes keep you from getting creative - use cooked seafood in recipes from cold salads to pasta, rice dishes, and soups.
