Neuropathy Part of the cause of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is damage to the Schwann cells which form the myelin sheath around peripheral nerves. Schwann cell damage probably occurs for metabolic reasons and can lead to areas of demyelination. As part of the function of Schwann cells is to protect and nourish the nerve fibres there will be progressive fibre degeneration. In peripheral nerves the microvascular changes already described are likely to be an additional factor in the development of peripheral neuropathy. Ischaemia of peripheral nerves will lead to hypoxic damage as neurones are very sensitive to oxygen lack. Evidence for this comes from the fact that unmyelinated nerve fibres are affected as well as the myelinated fibres. Initially there will be shrinkage of axons followed by fragmentation. Neuropathy can lead to sensory and motor deficiency in the legs and often presents with tingling and numbness. Sensory neuropathy is the most common presentation resulting is reduced sensation and pain awareness from the feet. This can result in the patient being unaware of developing injuries to the feet. Bladder problems and impotence may also be caused by peripheral nerve defects.

Pat Schulkins is one of the millions of Americans with type 2 diabetes. "Oh I probably have had it around 15 years," says Pat Schulkins. She monitors her glucose, but when it came to the state of her feet, Pat was unfeeling. About half of diabetics have this side effect called neuropathy. "These patients, especially when they get really bad, lose the ability to feel their feet. So they don't know when there's a problem," says Dr. Andrew Belis, foot and ankle surgeon on staff with Lee Memorial Health System. Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage brought on by uncontrolled blood sugar. The feet and toes are most commonly affected. The lack of sensation increases the risk of serious problems when injuries and sores go unnoticed. That's exactly what happened to Schulkins. "It was like a big blister kind of, inward though. It wasn't sticking out like a blister does," says Schulkins. By the time she noticed the ulcer on her foot, it was almost too late to save. "The ulcer was there and it was chronic and resistant to care. And we got to change courses and address the underlining bone structure, so we basically reconstructed her foot so there's not these high pressure spots where the ulcer or the bone would break through the skin," says Dr. Belis. Experts stress the importance of knowing the symptoms, which may include, tingling, burning, pain or numbness in the feet; getting annual foot exams and wearing approved diabetic shoes if needed. "Even simple things like an ingrown nail can get infected; it can get down to the bone and can risk losing the toe. You or I notice a sore or even a small cut on your foot people with diabetes have less feeling they may not notice it until two or three weeks later. By that point it could have erupted into a full blown infection," says Dr. Belis. Although she managed to side step an amputation, Schulkins will never take her feet for granted. "And I know, I never thought it would happen," says Schulkins. Diabetic neuropathy is a nerve disorder caused by diabetes. Symptoms of neuropathy include numbness and sometimes pain in the hands, feet, or legs. Nerve damage caused by diabetes can also lead to problems with internal organs such as the digestive tract, heart, and sexual organs, causing indigestion, diarrhea or constipation, dizziness, bladder infections, and impotence. In some cases, neuropathy can flare up suddenly, causing weakness and weight loss. Depression may follow. While some treatments are available, a great deal of research is still needed to understand how diabetes affects the nerves and to find more effective treatments for this complication. The human nervous system consists of vast network of specialized tissue including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves which connect and control all the organs in the body. The nervous system manages all of the body’s actions and reactions in an environment. This is done through a series of electrical impulses that pass between neurons, or nerve cells, going to and from the brain. These nerves can be either autonomic, sensory, or motor. Autonomic nerves control involuntary activities such as heart beat and digestion. Sensory nerves relay to the brain sensations of touch, temperature, and pain. Motor nerves carry messages from the brain to contract different muscles used in movement. Diabetes is a disorder caused by an excessive amount of glucose, or blood sugar, in the bloodstream. Diabetic neuropathy is a condition that develops when there is impairment or physical damage to the nervous system due to this increase in blood glucose. Increased blood glucose may cause a narrowing of the blood vessels supplying nerves. These damaged blood vessels might leak compounds into the nerves that damage them or fail to provide the nerve with enough oxygen. The extra glucose may stimulate an immune attack on the coating that surrounds the nerve axons, therefore decreasing or damaging the impulses those nerves carry. The symptoms of diabetic neuropathy will vary depending on which nerves have sustained damage. Some symptoms include low blood pressure, constipation, pain, numbness, loss of sensation, and uncontrolled movements. The best prevention or treatment for this condition is through a healthy lifestyle and careful monitoring of glucose levels. By controlling weight, being active, quitting smoking, and most importantly maintaining normal blood sugar levels, a diabetic can lower the chances for developing neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy: Treatment, Symptoms and Causes Peripheral neuropathy refers to a problem with the peripheral nerves. These nerves send messages from the central nervous system, the brain and the spinal cord to the rest of the body. The peripheral nerves tell the body when, for example, the hands are cold. It can lead to tingling, prickling, numbness, and muscle weakness in various parts of the body. Peripheral neuropathy can affect a range of different nerves, so it can impact a variety of locations in different ways. It can affect a single nerve, or several nerves at the same time. It is also associated with a number of different underlying medical conditions. Sometimes there is no identifiable cause. It affects some 20 million people in the United States. Fast facts on peripheral neuropathy: Neuropathy is a common complication of a number of different medical conditions. It can involve the autonomic nerves, the motor nerves, and the sensory nerves. Sometimes it affects a single nerve or nerve set, for example, in Bell's Palsy, which affects a facial nerve. Physical trauma, repetitive injury, infection, metabolic problems, and exposure to toxins and some drugs are all possible causes. People with diabetes have a high risk of neuropathy.

Nerve Pain In Knee, Signs Of Peripheral Neuropathy, Peripheral Neuropathy In Diabetes http://neuropathy-secrets.info-pro.co Fast Facts On Neuropathy Here are some key points about neuropathy. Neuropathy is a complication found in a number of different underlying medical conditions. The term neuropathy is short for peripheral neuropathy, meaning nerve damage in the peripheral nervous system. Three main types of nerve can be involved in peripheral neuropathy; autonomic nerves, motor nerves and sensory nerves. Physical trauma, repetitive injury, infection, metabolic problems and exposure to toxins and some drugs can all lead to peripheral neuropathy. Most cases of neuropathy are found in people who have the metabolic disorder diabetes,2 when it is known simply as diabetic neuropathy. With neuropathy as a complication of diabetes, up to 50% of people affected may be completely asymptomatic. People often describe the pain of neuropathy as being a tingling or burning sensation. They also often describe a loss of sensation similar to what it would be like wearing a thin stocking or glove. Being tested for neuropathy is routine for people with diabetes - guidelines for doctors urge them to look out for the clinical signs of neuropathy the first time a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is made, and five years after a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Whether single or multiple nerves are affected by neuropathy, the underlying cause can often be targeted for treatment, but if the background condition cannot be corrected, treatment takes the form of symptomatic pain relief. For toxic causes, simply removing the exposure to a suspect toxin, or stopping a culprit drug, will halt further nerve damage behind the neuropathy. When neuropathy is caused by compression of a single nerve, treatment is similar whichever nerve is involved, and depends on whether the compression is fixed or transient. Peripheral neuropathy is basically when you have damage to your peripheral nerves from either a trauma or disease. This can cause your hands and/or feet become numb and tingly. I'll focus on the feet/legs for this video. See Doctor Jo’s blog post about this at: http://www.askdoctorjo.com/peripheral-neuropathy-feet-legs Peripheral neuropathy can be caused from diabetes, medications, or even chemotherapy, as well as many other things. Having good flexibility and strength in these areas will help. The first stretch will be a calf stretch. Sit on the ground with your legs straight out in front of you. You can bend the leg you are not stretching towards you. Put a belt, towel, or dog leash around the ball of your foot. Keep your back and knee straight, and relax your ankle. Pull your foot towards you with the strap until you feel a stretch. Hold this for 30 seconds, and do it three times on each side. Next are ankle pumps. With your legs straight out in front of you, place a roll just under your ankle so your heel can move freely. Trying to keep your leg straight and moving only at your ankle, pull your foot up towards you, and then push it down like you are pushing on a peddle. Then you will do ankle circles. Again, try not to move your whole leg. Keep the movement at the ankle. Do ten one direction, and then reverse it and do ten the other direction. Now you will do a simple straight leg raise (SLR). You want to squeeze your muscles tight to lock out the knee and pull your toes towards your head to keep the whole leg straight. This will work your hip flexor muscles when you lift your leg off the ground. Use slow controlled movements to make sure you are using the muscles and not momentum. Start off with ten, and work your way up. Then, you are going to lie on your side. The top leg is going to stay straight and pull your toes up towards you. Keep your body in a straight line as well. This is going to work your hip abductor muscles. Then you are going to work the bottom leg working your hip adductor muscles. Same as above, keep the leg straight. Start with ten of each of these, and do both sides. In standing, you will do a heel/toe raise off the ground. Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart, come up on your toes as high as you can. Try not to lean forward, but bring your body straight up and slowly come back down. Push off as much as you can so your heel leaves the ground. Then lift your toes off the ground, alternating back and forth. Start off with ten and work your way up to 20-25. The last exercise will be a balance series. Stand on one foot, but hold onto something sturdy. Try to balance for 30 seconds to a minute. When that becomes easy, just use one finger one each side. Then just one finger for balance, and finally try balancing without holding on at all. http://www.disabilitydenials.com/blog/proving-neuropathy-long-term-disability-claim-erisa/ In this video Marc Whitehead, Board Certified Disability Insurance Attorney, discusses how to prove diabetic neuropathy qualifies you for Disability Insurance benefits. Almost 26 million children and adults have Type II Diabetics according to the American Diabetes Association and many of these people also suffer from peripheral neuropathy as a result of diabetes related nerve damage. Neuropathy may become increasingly more server over time causing pain, numbness and weakness in the hands, feet and other parts of the body and eventually compromise an individuals ability to work and complete normal daily activities. If neuropathy makes it impossible for you to continue completing your normal functions of your job, you will likely need to apply for Disability Benefits and prove that this disability is legitimately preventing you from working. The following forms of documentation will help you prove your case and receive the benefits that you need to support yourself. 1- Medical Records: The most obvious evidence that you will need is your complete medical history including a neurologist diagnosis or your peripheral neuropathy based on nerve testings such as MRI's, nerve biopsies, Blood tests, nerve conduction tests or spinal tap. 2- Documentation of Treatment: Presenting an initial diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy is generally not enough in a long term Disability Case. You need to prove that you have continued the recommended treatment. If you can't prove that you've received regular treatment from a neurologist or other medical provider, your claim may be denied. In order to prove that you can no longer work in the capacity that you used to you need to prove that your Neuropathy hinders your completion of basic day to day activities. The most straight forward way to do this is by tracking how long it takes you to do certain tasks and what type of pain and other symptoms you experience while completing these daily activities. Things such as showering, dressing and completing household chores. If you write all of this down in an activity log, you can use that log as evidence. Finally get a written statement from a Neurologist. To make your claim even stronger you should have your Neurologist write and sign a detailed statement stating the symptoms you experience, how those symptoms are disabling you and what they recommend for your course of treatment. http://neuropathy-cure.plus101.com Signs Of Peripheral Neuropathy, Nerve Pain In Knee, Peripheral Neuropathy In Diabetes. There are no treatment procedures for neuropathy. In reality the best treatment procedures for peripheral neuropathy do not need to be administered by a doctor. Therefore the doctor is neither motivated to learn them nor teach to the patient. Experience has proven that most family doctors are not even aware of these methods and are not motivated to get involved with this type of patient management; this is because it is too time intensive and not worthwhile financially. Patients must therefore assume the responsibility of learning and implementing the methods of self-treatment. I have created a simple step-by-step program that will teach you these methods which you can get at this link http://neuropathy-cure.plus101.com This is actually a good and positive thing! Significant amounts of money will be saved by the patient taking over their own case and not paying the high professional fees. By reducing these costs, most any person is able to correct their neuropathy problem without the financial burdens that prevent many individuals from getting the care which they otherwise need and deserve. Tingling in the hands and feet seems trivial but it may be an important warning symptom of peripheral neuropathy and diabetes. http://www.theveincarecentre.co.uk/contact Tingling or numbness affecting your feet may seem like a trivial symptom of no real importance. However, in this video, I will explain why this symptom may be very important with regard to your health in general and why you should not ignore it. Tingling hands, feet, or both is an extremely common and bothersome symptom. Such tingling can sometimes be entirely innocent and temporary. For example, it could result from pressure on nerves when your arm is bent under your head as you fall asleep. Or it could be from pressure on nerves when you cross your legs too long. In either case, the "pins and needles" effect -- which is usually painless -- is soon relieved by removing the pressure that caused it. In many cases, however, tingling in the hands, feet, or both can be severe, occurring at irregular times or continuously day and night. It also can accompany other symptoms. such as pain, itching, numbness, and muscle wasting. In such cases, tingling may be a sign of nerve damage. Such nerve damage is known by doctors as peripheral neuropathy because it affects nerves distant from the brain and spinal cord, often in the hands and feet. There are more than 100 different types of peripheral neuropathy. Over time, peripheral neuropathy can worsen, resulting in decreased mobility and even disability. Diabetes is one of the most common causes of peripheral neuropathy, accounting for about a third of cases. In diabetic neuropathy, tingling and other symptoms often first develop in both feet and go up the legs, followed by tingling and other symptoms that affect both hands and go up the arms. About two-thirds of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nerve damage. In many cases, these symptoms are the first signs of diabetes. So here is the main point I want to make, tingling and numbness in the feet may be the first signs that you have a serious peripheral neuropathy and that you may have diabetes. Diabetes puts you at risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and a long list of other serious complications. So that tingling you have could be your only warning sign of a serious complication developing elsewhere in your body. Don’t ignore this symptom and please get a check up.

VISIT: ►► http://neuropathy.natural55.com ◄◄ How To Treat Peripheral Neuropathy Pain In Feet | Peripheral Neuropathy Natural Treatment Peripheral neuropathy is nerve damage caused by chronically high blood sugar and diabetes. It leads to numbness, loss of sensation, and sometimes pain in your feet, legs, or hands. It is the most common complication of diabetes. About 60% to 70% of all people with diabetes will eventually develop peripheral neuropathy, although not all suffer pain. Yet this nerve damage is not inevitable. Studies have shown that people with diabetes can reduce their risk of developing nerve damage by keeping their blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible What causes peripheral neuropathy? Chronically high blood sugar levels damage nerves not only in your extremities but also in other parts of your body. These damaged nerves cannot effectively carry messages between the brain and other parts of the body. This means you may not feel heat, cold, or pain in your feet, legs, or hands. If you get a cut or sore on your foot, you may not know it, which is why it's so important to inspect your feet daily. If a shoe doesn't fit properly, you could even develop a foot ulcer and not know it... There are mainly six types of diabetic foot complications like skin changes, neuropathy, calluses, foot ulcers, poor circulation, and amputation. 1. Skin Changes Diabetes can cause dry and cracked skin. It generates changes in the color of the feet. When the levels of blood glucose become high, the body starts to lose fluid. This happens because the body is transforming the water into urine to surpass additional glucose from the body. The skin becomes dry when the damaged nerves of legs and feet don’t receive a signal to sweat. 2. Neuropathy Neuropathy is widely known as peripheral neuropathy. The main causes of neuropathy are repetitive injury, metabolic problems, physical trauma, and infection. Several drugs and toxins can also be the causes of neuropathy. It damages the walls of the tiny blood vessels of the nerves of the legs. It lowers the ability to feel cold, pain and heat. Various other medical conditions that can lead to neuropathy include kidney disease, liver disease, excessive alcohol intake, cancer, and HIV. 3. Calluses Calluses on the feet refer to the thickened portion of the skin. They are round and format the bony areas just underneath the toes. It often leads to diabetic foot pain that can be caused by too much pressure on the skin. The main causes of calluses are pressure and rubbing. 4. Poor Circulation Poor blood circulation occurs when different parts of the body don’t receive adequate blood flow. In diabetic patients, high blood glucose levels can damage the blood vessels. Many times, plaques form in the blood vessels during this situation and the blood vessels can’t supply sufficient amount of blood to the surrounding cells. 5. Foot ulcer Diabetic foot ulcer is one of the most well-known complications of diabetes mellitus and also one of the most problematic diabetic foot problems. Peripheral artery disease, smoking, diabetic neuropathy, poor glycemic control and ischemia of small blood vessels increase the chance of foot ulcers. 6. Amputation Diabetic people are more prone to be amputated than other people. Amputation is a surgical procedure in which parts of the limb like a foot, toe are removed due to injury, infection, surgery, and disease. In diabetic patients, high blood glucose level can damage the blood vessels. http://34.gs/NervePainSolution - Nautral Neuropathy Treatment! How to Handle Neuropathic Pain in Your Feet! 1. Check your feet every night. Make your spouse inspect your feet each night when get ready for bed. There are also some great mirrors made for checking your feet you can use. 2. See a podiatrist. If your a person living with diabetes, I recommend seeing a podiatrist at the very least annually for an exam or whenever your doctor requests. I would also suggest going in whenever anything seems to have changed with your feet. If you cannot see a podiatrist then make sure your doctor always has a look at your feet at every appointment. 3. Watch your step. Pain is a warning sign that something is wrong. When you have peripheral neuropathy you cannot trust the feeling in your feet, so always make it a point to watch where you are walking. A nail or tack could puncture a shoe and at the same time, your foot. 4. Clear a path. I always make sure there is nothing on the floor or in my way before I go to bed in case I get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. A stubbed toe can get infected quickly, so keeping the floor clear is an easy but important step. 5. Wear closed toe shoes. I do not wear sandals that expose my toes to any harm. I know many people do not feel strongly about this but for me there is no question. The less exposed your feet are the less you need to worry throughout the day. 6. Do not walk around barefoot. Being barefoot feels wonderful, but I don't think it's worth the risk. One day by the pool can be ruined if the cement is too hot and you cannot feel it. Water shoes or even closed toe sandals work well. 7. Trim your toenails carefully. A small cut is all that is needed for an infection to start. An ingrown toenail can also break the skin. Use an emery board to smooth them out when you are done trimming. 8. Buy shoes that fit. A callus or blister can easily become a sore. Make sure the shoes you purchase fit well and offer support. 9. Dry your feet well. Some mornings I am rushing to get out the door and to work on time. Still I always take the time to make sure my feet are completely dry before I put my socks on. Fungus loves to grow in moist places. 10. Exercise. The benefits of exercise are limitless. Better circulation is good for your feet since they are the furthest away from your heart. Staying active and avoiding tobacco are things you can do to improve circulation.Having diabetic peripheral neuropathy does not mean you will lose your feet. The real enemy is infection. Hopefully the tips above can help you avoid infection and keep you and your feet happy and healthy for years to come.

Chronic, intractable nerve pain or neuropathy can be so uncomfortable that getting through a work day will be impossible. Since Social Security defines disability in terms of how your medical problems prevent you from working, neuropathy can be a disabling condition. As I discuss in this video, disability judges expect to see reports from specialists like neurologists, nerve condition study test results and prescriptions for strong nerve pain medications like neurontin. SSD judges also look for causation - what is the source of your nerve pain - is it a disc problem, diabetes, a medication reaction or something else. If causation is clear you may be able to argue that listing 11.14 applies, although in most cases your attorney will present a functional capacity argument - that your nerve pain has so reduced your capacity for work that you would not be reliable at any job. If your peripheral neuropathy cannot be controlled despite your doctor’s best efforts and your compliance with recommended treatment, then your chances at winning SSDI or SSI are good. ===============FREE SURVIVAL KIT==================== Don’t know where to begin?
