Antibiotics for a Tooth Infection, Dental Implant, Bone Grafts

http://www.burbankdentalimplants.com/antibiotics-for-a-tooth-infection-dental-implant-bone-graft-do-i-need-them/ *****please post your comments to the above website rather than to YouTube for a quicker reply*** In this short, but highly informative video, I review some of the common truths and misconceptions about antibiotics in relationship to tooth infections, dental implants and bone grafting. Use of antibiotics should be judicious and carefully thought out. Just because you have an “infection” in your tooth, it does not mean you need an antibiotic. Also, not all “infections” are actually infections. Not all infections can be cured by antibiotics alone. Antibiotics are commonly needed for procedures that involved cutting through bone or addition of bone graft materials. There is a limited supply of new blood vessels that can get your natural immune system’s protection in the first few days following a significant procedures such as a surgical extraction, a bone graft, sinus graft, apicoectomy and dental implants. Antibiotics are extremely helpful in many situations. I also discussed common questions such as antibiotic resistance and what happens with common stomach issues and what to do about them. I think you will find this video helpful. Please feel free to ask questions below. Ramsey A. Amin, D.D.S. My throat is inflamed and sore and I have had conjunctivitis for about a month, so, as it was the weekend, I decided to start taking the clarithromycin again, just for a week to see if I can get these two infections back under control. If it doesn't work, I'll go to the doctor and see what they say.

Tooth Abscess, Pus Pocket Incised. Incision and Drainage of Infected Gum (Gingiva)

07:24
This nice gentleman comes into the clinic with a swollen left cheek. He has a hx of a "cracked" tooth around this area. No complaints of pain to teeth. no fever or chills. Upon exam, I notices the mandibular gum line was fluctuant (soft and bouncy). I numbed the area with q-tips soaked in viscous lidocaine. Then I locally injected lidocaine with epi. I then used an 18g needle to puncture the area twice. When I saw the pus, I realized I may need to open the area, so I used a 10 blade to perform a stab incision. He will be placed on antibiotics and antiseptic rinse. Dr. Mike www.michaellewismd.com (new book 2017) www.willowmedicalcenter.com (concierge medicine)

This Antibiotic Can Be Deadly

People with heart disease need to be careful about using the common antibiotic clarithromycin, the Food and Drug Administration said Thursday. Heart disease patients who take the drug, sold under the brand name Biaxin, can die years later, the FDA said. The FDA said it does not know how clarithromycin might cause heart problems or death, but it’s been warning about the problem since 2005. “FDA is advising caution before prescribing the antibiotic clarithromycin (Biaxin) to patients with heart disease because of a potential increased risk of heart problems or death that can occur years later,” the FDA said in a statement. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/heart-health/watch-antibiotic-if-you-have-heart-disease-fda-says-n850416?cid=public-rss_20180223 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Incision and drainage of a submandibular abscess

01:05
This is the management of an extensive right submandibular abscess under general anesthesia. Submandibular abscess develops beneath the tissues in the floor of the mouth. Pus collects under the tongue, pushing it upwards and toward the back of the throat, which can cause breathing and swallowing problems. An abscess formation usually happens secondary to dental or odontogenic infection. Inflammation caused by dental caries leads to edema and hypoxia of the dental pulp resulting in pulp necrosis. This environment allows for easy bacterial invasion of the bone tissue. Spread of infection within the bone occurs in all directions until a cortical plate is encountered. If infection perforates the bone above the mylohyoid, fascial space involvement occurs. Spread of infection through fascial planes into deep neck spaces, such as the submandibular space, can result in local abscess formation. Extension of odontogenic infection into the deep neck spaces and massive abscess formation is an unusual, but potentially life threatening. Examination findings included moderate to severe trismus and marked right submandibular swelling. Treatment involves maintenance of airway patency, surgical incision and drainage of the abscess, and antibiotics to cover both oral anaerobes and aerobes (eg, clindamycin, ampicillin/sulbactam, high-dose penicillin).

How to treat a dental Fistula

02:07
In medical terms, a fistula is defined as a non-natural or non pre-existing tube connecting the inflammation centre or an organ with the interior body parts and/ or exterior surface of the body. When inflammation persists at a particular site inside the body for a long period, it creates puss and may eventually lead to the formation of a puss corridor. This puss corridor then reaches the surface and causes a gum boil. The puss is released temporarily through the gum boil but the inflammation is still not controlled and the puss corridor gets lined with a special type of cells while the body tries to isolate this segment. Thus a fistula is formed. Parulis fistula also called as gum boils are not extremely painful and hence may fail to seek the immediate attention of the patient to approach a dentist. In due course of time, the infection tends to grow more and damages the teeth bone further and further. Hence, the bone defect grows larger in the case of Parulis fistulae. Treating dental abscesses may involve root canal treatments or in more severe cases be followed with root tip resection. In this procedure, dental abscesses are operated and the root tip is removed along with the fistula corridor formed due to the infection. Fistula corridors in dental abscesses tend to heal naturally when the cause has been removed. Watch this video to find out more about how a gum boil is formed and how it can be treated. http://www.checkdent.com

Antibiotic Prophylaxis Regimens

08:32
In this video, I will be discussing about various "Antibiotic Prophylaxis Regimens" recommended by American Heart Association (AHA) meant to prevent Bacterial Endocarditis.
Why Antibiotics are Harmful for Your Health | Top 10 Home Remedies

08:53
Doctors prescribe antibiotics to treat infections or diseases caused by bacteria, such as some respiratory tract infections, skin infections and infected wounds. The drugs block vital processes in bacteria to either kill them or stop them from multiplying. This helps your natural immune system fight the infection.Different antibiotics work differently against bacteria. For example, penicillin destroys the bacterial cell walls, whereas erythromycin stops protein building in bacteria. While appropriate use of antibiotics is important in timely treatment of various infections, they may have side effects that cause other temporary health issues. Some may even be linked to more serious diseases. Here are 10 things to watch for while taking antibiotics.1. DiarrheaDiarrhea is a common adverse effect of antibiotic use. Antibiotics can upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut by killing the good microbes along with infection-causing bacteria. This leads to antibiotic-associated diarrhea causing watery stools. Some of the antibiotics most commonly linked to antibiotic-associated diarrhea are Cephalosporins, Clindamycin, Penicillin and Fluoroquinolones.A 2012 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concludes that probiotic use is effective in the prevention and treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. To prevent or treat this side effect of antibiotics, add some probiotic yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or miso to your diet.2. Nausea and VomitingWhile taking antibiotics like penicillin and metronidazole, many people experience nausea and vomiting. These symptoms occur when antibiotics kill off some of the good bacteria living in your intestine. This leads to problems like bloating, nausea and vomiting, which are usually mild and transient. If you have nausea from an antibiotic treatment, you can eat some probiotic yogurt and drink ginger tea. 3. Vaginal Yeast InfectionsCandida and other germs living inside the vagina are harmless when present in a natural balance. However, antibiotics used to treat a variety of infections may change the natural balance of these bacteria and increase the number of candida yeast, which may lead to a vaginal yeast infection.Symptoms of a yeast infection include a thick, white vaginal discharge as well as burning and itching. Some of the antibiotics that can change the bacterial balance in the body include clindamycin and tetracycline. If you are taking either of these antibiotics, daily eat at least 1 cup of Greek yogurt with active and live cultures to prevent a yeast infection. You can also ask your doctor to prescribe some probiotic supplement.4. Allergic ReactionsSome people are allergic to antibiotics like penicillin and cephalosporins. What Is a "Flesh-Eating" MRSA Bacterial Infection? Part 2

08:43
http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/ http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/ellagica.html http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/products.html What Is Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)? MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria. This organism is known for causing skin infections in addition to many other types of infections. There are other designations in the scientific literature for these bacteria according to where the bacteria are acquired by patients, such as community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA or CMRSA), hospital-acquired or health-care-acquired MRSA (HA-MRSA or HMRSA), or epidemic MRSA (EMRSA). Statistical data suggest that as many as 19,000 people per year die from MRSA in the U.S.; current data suggest this number has declined by about 25%-35% in recent years, in part, because of prevention practices at hospitals and home care. Although S. aureus has been causing infections (Staph infections) probably as long as the human race has existed, MRSA has a relatively short history. MRSA was first noted in 1961, about two years after the antibiotic methicillin was initially used to treat S. aureus and other infectious bacteria. The resistance to methicillin was due to a penicillin-binding protein coded for by a mobile genetic element termed the methicillin-resistant gene (mecA). In recent years, the gene has continued to evolve so that many MRSA strains are currently resistant to several different antibiotics such as penicillin, oxacillin, and amoxicillin (Amoxil, Dispermox, Trimox). HA-MRSA are often also resistant to tetracycline (Sumycin), erythromycin (E-Mycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab, PCE, Pediazole, Ilosone), and clindamycin (Cleocin). http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/blog/ http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com/Liver-GallBladder-Chemical-Detoxification.html

#2 Cat losing balance, falling over, head bobbing (degenerative neurologic disease)

00:40
My 5-year old cat Churro is suffering from an undiagnosed degenerative neurologic disease. He started developing balance problems when he was only 2 ½ years old by miscalculating distances when he tried to jump. At 3 ½ years, he was losing his ability to jump at all; his gait started to change into a high-stepped, deliberate gait; and he was having a harder time coordinating his steps to run. He also started having periodic seizures where his body would freeze up for several seconds (I call these episodes "seizures" for lack of another word, but the vets tell me they're not seizures because his body isn't convulsing, he isn't foaming at the mouth, etc.) These symptoms kept progressing, and now at 5 years old, he: • Can't run or jump at all; • Falls over when he walks (see other video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIx7YJRxqCk, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KTy5GTH_OI&feature=youtu.be); • Has difficulty walking and controlling his legs (it's like he's losing the ability to control where his legs go and his back legs are atrophying); • Is losing the ability to perceive distance because his nose bumps into things when he sniffs them; • Has a hard time focusing and his head will bob a little bit sometimes when he's trying to focus (you can see a little bit of his head bob in THIS VIDEO at 18 seconds); And look how his body wobbles when he walks between the couch and the wall in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxK9S7pHUDg&feature=youtu.be; • Has seizure episodes where his whole body tenses up, his legs stick straight out, his head pulls back, and his eye go wide and blank for about 5-10 seconds. His whole body turns rock solid and every muscle tenses up. Here is a seizure caught on video (but it's slightly blurry: http://youtu.be/wpV-FchJxeA). There is also a slight example of his body freezing up in this video at 16 seconds(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svnlg2SJo6Q); • Drops his head straight down to the ground after he looks up or backwards, and when he's coming out of his seizures. (you can see an example of his head dropping down to the ground after looking backwards at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNEMBY3feMY); and • Muscles twitch a lot when he's lying down (see this video at 3, 8, 18, 21, and 27 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf0ywEMkZxQ). Despite all of this, Churro is still the same ornery and fun-loving cat he has always been, which is why it's so incredibly sad and painful to watch him deteriorate from this undiagnosed neurologic disease. TREATMENT: Churro has been to three different neurologists (one at a vet school), and several internists to try to figure out what's going on. He's had a slew of tests and has been on every antibiotic imaginable in case it was a brain infection, but the tests were inconclusive and no drugs helped him. The final diagnosis was simply that he has degenerative brain disease (degenerative cerebellar abiotrophy?). I'd be really interested to see if anyone has any thoughts or ideas. TESTS/PROCEDURES: 1. Ear infection (April '12): treated and cured w/ DMSO drops. 2. CT scan (May '12) showed large mass in left nasal sinus and septum deviated to right. 3. Rhinoscopy (May '12) to clear out mass. Biopsy showed chronic rhinitis. 4. Cryptococcus test: normal 5. Toxoplasmosis test: normal 6. Thyroid test: normal 7. UPenn genetic testing: normal 8. MRI and CSF Spinal tap (August 8th, 2012): Brain normal, fluid normal. ANTIBIOTICS/DRUGS: Zeniquen, Chloramphenicol, Cefpodoxime, Levofloxacin, Doxycycline, Clindamycin, SMZ/TMP (sulfa-methoxazole trimethoprim), prednisone.

Cat falling over, losing balance (new video) (neurologic disease)

01:27
This is recent video (March 2014) of my 5-year old cat losing his balance from undiagnosed neurologic disease. The videos referenced below are from late 2013, so you can see the progression of the disease. His balance is getting worse and worse, but he doesn't seem to be in pain, his appetite is normal, and he still likes to play. And as you can see, he gets up and keeps going each time he falls. Antibiotic...when to use them

00:43
Antibiotics are important medications. It would be difficult to overstate the benefits of penicillin and other antibiotics in treating bacterial infections, preventing the spread of disease and reducing serious complications of disease. he reality is the illness you have may not necessarily be related to a bacterial infection. If you have sinusitis [inflammation of nasal sinuses] for 10 days, but it may actually be related to a viral problem, not a bacterial issue. We would not want to use antibiotics in a case like that. #dentalimplants, #youtubedentist, #tooth implants, #holistic dentist, #mercury dental fillings Medications that used to be standard treatments for bacterial infections are now less effective or don't work at all. Be careful when taking antibiotics, follow instruction indicated for you and make sure not to share your medications.

How safe are antibiotics in 1st trimester of pregnancy? - Dr. Phani Madhuri

03:39
Antibiotics are a group of drugs that are used to combat bacterial infections in various conditions. They could also be used in pregnancy. When it comes to regency, all the expectant mothers are worried whether they can use certain antibiotic in pregnancy or not. These group of drugs comes in various categories staring from A, B , C and X. So each drug in o particular category is either safe or unsafe. Category A and B drugs are mostly safe in pregnancy and can be used without any problem. But C and D drugs are having a little deleterious effects on the fetus compared to the other A and B drugs and it had to be very carefully used when it comes to pregnancy. Only then the potential benefits the drugs oppose to the growing fetus and the mother. Category X drugs are definitely dangerous to the fetus and they have to be avoided as they are teratogenic in the terms of causing abnormalities in the development of various organs. Coming to antibiotics in early pregnancy, the week number 8 – 10 or 7 – 11 is mostly the stage of organogenesis where all the organs are developing in a beautiful way in the fetus. So all the drugs which are in this period can have effect on the growing fetus to various degrees. So we try and avoid any drugs as much as possible, but if it is inevitable, like infections or any condition which si posing threat to the mother’s health, it is advised to use drugs in the safe categories, that is the A, B and sometimes C category drugs. Antibiotics do not affect the fetal growth, especially in the early pregnancy. It can be harmful to the organogenesis to the development of the fetus. So growth parameters are not affected in the early pregnancy , But there are a group of drugs that can cause teratogenic effects , that is abnormal effects on the fetus, that is warfarin, phenytoin, lithium, isotretinoin etc. So these drugs are to be avoided in pregnancy as far as possible. There are many antibiotics which can be used safely in pregnancy like penicillins, erythromycins, cephalosporins, metronidazole, clindamycin and various other drugs. But of course only after your gynecologist says okay with these drugs.
#4 Cat, head dropping (degenerative neurologic disease)

00:10
This video shows my 5-yr old cat's head dropping down to the ground after he's been looking up. (It's one of many symptoms of his degenerative neurologic disease). He also started having periodic seizures where his body would freeze up for several seconds (I call these episodes "seizures" for lack of another word, but the vets tell me they're not seizures because his body isn't convulsing, he isn't foaming at the mouth, etc.) These symptoms kept progressing, and now at 5 years old, he: • Can't run or jump at all; • Falls over when he walks (see other videos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIx7YJRxqCk; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KTy5GTH_OI&feature=youtu.be); and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=metywqDtjkA.); • Has difficulty walking and controlling his legs (it's like he's losing the ability to control where his legs go and his back legs are atrophying); • Is losing the ability to perceive distance because his nose bumps into things when he sniffs them; • Has a hard time focusing and his head will bob a little bit sometimes when he's trying to focus (you can see a little bit of his head bob in this video at 18 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=metywqDtjkA); And look how his body wobbles when he walks between the couch and the wall in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxK9S7pHUDg&feature=youtu.be; • Has seizure episodes where his whole body tenses up, his legs stick straight out, his head pulls back, and his eye go wide and blank for about 5-10 seconds. (THIS VIDEO) and • Muscles twitch a lot when he's lying down (see this video at 3, 8, 18, 21, and 27 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf0ywEMkZxQ).
