I've bartended many years and have been drinking after work many years. One morning I woke up with incredible pain in my right big toe. It was gout. Too much alcohol and rich food. I took the drugs, slowed the intake of alcohol and bad foods and it went away. I recently came back from a long vacation, which included a lot of drinking and rich food. Woke up a couple mornings after I got back - had gout again. This time I drank cherry juice...a lot of cherry juice. It worked. The gout was gone a couple days later. COMMENTARY SOURCES: GOUT - GOUTY ARTHRITIS Gout is a kind of arthritis. It can cause an attack of sudden burning pain, stiffness, and swelling in a joint, usually a big toe. These attacks can happen over and over unless gout is treated. Over time, they can harm your joints, tendons, and other tissues. Gout is most common in men. Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. Most of the time, having too much uric acid isn't harmful. Many people with high levels in their blood never get gout. But when uric acid levels in your blood are too high, the uric acid may form hard crystals in your joints. Your chances of getting gout are higher if you are overweight, drink too much alcohol, or eat too much meat and fish that are high in chemicals called purines. Some medicines, such as water pills (diuretics), can also bring on gout. Arthritis is caused by the consumption of grains and dairy that cause leaky gut syndrome and inflammation of the joints. The Gut Connection to Rheumatoid Arthritis The purpose of the gastrointestinal tract (gut) is multi-fold. 1. I haven't had one in over a year and I can only think it is due to recent diet and exercise regimen that I had one happen. Anyways, here is what I do that seems to help and sometimes can solve a minor gout attack over night. This remedy is NOT for those that need to watch their salt intake due to health problems as baking soda has a lot of sodium which you will be consuming by doing this remedy. It works for me but might not work for you. I do not take medicine for gout (allopurinol, etc...) as when I was first prescribed allopurinol by my former doctor (wonder why), he did so while I was having practically the worst gout attack years ago and it made it ten times worse (think cane and basically crawling on the floor to get to the bathroom, across the house, etc...all of this in my 30s). Also, in my opinion, the medicine is no good for your kidneys. By losing weight, I did not have a gout attack for over a year and just had one recently. Again, consult your doctor before trying this.
