The CVS pharmacy chain fills more prescriptions at more drugstores than any other drugstore operator. With about 7,000 drugstores under the CVS and Longs Drug banners, the company is the nation's largest pharmacy chain (ahead of archrival Walgreen) as a result of a string of acquisitions that included the Eckerd chain, stores from Albertsons, and most recently Longs Drug Stores (2008). In 2007 CVS purchased prescription benefits management (PBM) firm Caremark Rx for about $26.5 billion. Caremark was combined with CVS's PBM and specialty pharmacy unit PharmaCare Management Services to form Caremark Pharmacy Services.

CVS paying $10.4B in cash for drugs distributor Omnicare

00:23
(AP) -- CVS Health will pay more than 0 billion for pharmaceutical distributor Omnicare in a deal primed to feed its fast-growing specialty drug business and tap a lucrative and growing market: care for the elderly. The acquisition announced Thursday will give one of the biggest U.S. pharmacy benefits managers national reach in dispensing prescription drugs to assisted living and skilled nursing homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals and other care providers. Omnicare's long-term care business operates in 47 states and the District of Columbia. The deal also will bring in more business doling out specialty drugs. These complex and expensive medications for cancer, hepatitis C and other conditions can represent treatment breakthroughs but are raising growing concerns over cost. Insurers and other bill payers want help containing that expense.Specialty drug revenue soared 46 percent for CVS Health in the first quarter, helping the company trump analyst expectations and make up for a sales hit from its decision to stop selling tobacco products last year in its drugstores. CVS Health also runs the nation's second largest drugstore chain, trailing only Wagreens Boots Alliance Inc.Cincinnati-based Omnicare's core business involves distributing drugs and providing pharmacy services to long-term care providers, a market CVS Health doesn't currently serve.CVS Health CEO Larry Merlo told analysts that represents a "substantial growth opportunity" for his company, with the U.S. population aging.U.S. Census Bureau researchers have predicted that the population age 65 and older will approach 84 million people by 2050, nearly double its total in 2012, due largely to the aging baby-boom generation.Merlo noted that older people are more likely to take several medications and can have trouble making sure their prescriptions follow them as they move from their own home to long-term care or other settings. He believes his company can help ease these transitions."Omnicare significantly expands our business and provides us with access into a new pharmacy dispensing channel," Merlo said.CVS Health said Thursday that it would spend 8 in cash for each Omnicare share. The total value of the deal, expected to close later this year, is 2.7 billion counting about .3 billion in debt.Omnicare has shelled out millions of dollars in recent years to settle federal lawsuits over kickback allegations.Last June, it agreed to pay more than 24 million to settle lawsuits alleging it gave kickbacks to some facilities so they would keep the company as their drug provider for elderly Medicare and Medicaid recipients. Omnicare said it settled the case to end litigation and committed no wrongdoing. In 2009, Omnicare said it would pay 8 million to settle allegations that it solicited or paid a variety of kickbacks. That included an accusation that it received kickbacks from Johnson Johnson for recommending that doctors prescribe to nursing home patients the antipsychotic Risperdal, which can hasten death in elderly people with dementia. In December, the U.S. Department of Justice filed another lawsuit against Omnicare alleging that it received millions of dollars in kickbacks from Abbott Laboratories in exchange for buying and recommending the prescription anti-seizure drug Depakote for controlling behavior problems in nursing home patients with dementia.CVS Health spokeswoman Carolyn Castel said in an email that these cases amounted to "legacy issues," and Omnicare management has worked "diligently over the past few years to create a new foundation around regulatory and compliance matters."An Omnicare representative did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press seeking comment about the litigation.Shares of Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based CVS Health Corp. climbed 2.2 percent, or .21, to 03.48 in Thursday afternoon trading, while broader indexes edged up slightly. Omnicare Inc. shares advanced .63 to 6.26. 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. A female “Pharmacist,” and Illegals’ Mafia-Member, denies Patient’s Own Info, to Patient

02:13
Luisa Oyarzun, an elderly, disable, chronically ill citizen who is in tremendous pain from a CHRONIC URINARY TRACK INFECTION, is obliged, by a pharmacist [on 45 Ludlow Street; Yonkers, NY 10705] to come to the pharmacy to get information about her own prescription. This “pharmacist” and her husband belong to the Illegal Aliens’ Traffickers of Citizens’ Identities and Government Benefits-Mafia. They do ALL types of “transactions” there, for the said mafia, and even tried to help the mafia falsely arrest one of the mafia’s victims. This female pharmacist attempted to do this by lying about the said elderly, disable, chronically ill citizen’s caretaker and saying that this caretaker called her on the phone and “threatened her.” In view of the above mentioned, the said caretaker informed her that she had been recording the entire conversation [which she always does], precisely because she knows that the said Illegals’ Mafia usually has its victims falsely arrested by the “policed officers” who are placed to work as “police officers” in exchange of welfare benefits, (for which they do not qualify) and having the job that they have (for which they do not qualify either). After the said female, mafia-member-pharmacist realized that she was going to be reported, is she had the said caretaker falsely arrested, she did not go on with her lie. The government benefits given to the said “police officers” are given to them with other names and identities (from other citizens who truly need these benefits and for which they qualify). Sometimes these “police officers” [and other mafia members] get them with other addresses in the different counties. This is because counties – or their computers -- do not seem to “communicate” with each other in regards to welfare benefits; so, if police officers-mafia members live in Westchester County and have another address in New York City, they can get welfare benefits in NYC and their pay-checks with the addressed they have at the Police-payroll-offices. Similarly, if they have addresses in NYC, New Jersey, and CT or any other states and counties, they can get welfare benefits from each of them, in addition to their paychecks]. This is what the illegals’ mafia members do. They have many identities and names (from citizens who qualify for the benefits) in each of the different counties and states and, thus, get welfare benefits at each of the different states and counties. The result, though, is that the citizens who truly need, and qualify for, these benefits [elderly, veterans, and anyone from who the said mafia can steal] end up dying for lock of them. Sort of like the American Veterans who died a little while ago, for lock of medical treatment, while the illegals [laughingly] had lots of medical insurances and lots of medical treatment [belonging to citizens who truly needed them and qualified for them]. The following should be “noted:” the said pharmacists (husband and wife) created their business, and have expensive properties, with the money stolen from the Tax-Payers’ money. This money is given to them by members of the Illegals’ Mafia who are given government jobs (in exchange for doing “jobs” for the mafia – like killing Americans by denying them medication and/or having them, or their advocates, falsely arrested). One of the said mafia members-government employees is Mr. Kevin M. McGuire (the current Commissioner of Westchester County Dept. of Social Services), who gives the aforementioned mafia members lot of TENF [welfare in cash] and other government benefits for which they do not qualify.

Because I'm in pain I'm a criminal abuser?

09:34
Exactly my point, when one is diagnosed and told they will probably be in pain for the rest of their life unless there is a "breaktherough" in pain treatment soon. They still will not eve mention medical marijuana, instead they treat one like a criminal and force one to sign a contract promising to be "normal". Great video on the subject of pain and patients.

Dr. Grinstead Urges You To Support the Florida's FFPCA's Fight Against The War On Pain Patients

03:37
http://www.drstevegrinstead.com -- Today Dr. Grinstead is reaching out to you to help make a difference in a tangible way in fighting the ongoing war against pain management. This past weekend Donna Ratliff the Executive Director of the Fight For Pain Care Action Network (FFPCAN) contacted Dr. Grinstead and asked for his support in helping find motivation and funding for their planned journey to the Florida State Capitol to challenge lawmakers about the deplorable treatment of pain patients in Florida. Please join them if you can on September 12, 2012 and help them fight for freedom from oppression and suffering. Below is posted some of the information she provided to Dr. Grinstead as well as this link. http://www.ffpcani.com/ to their non-profit association's website so you can learn more and even donate to help them arrange for buses so they can take as many as 200 people with them to speak out. Currently this group has funding for only 38-40 people and this is one instance where more is definitely better. Information from the FFPCAN: Several patients in Florida have already lost their jobs due to having to suffer through withdrawal and not being able to function because of their under-treated chronic pain. They are in so much pain along with the symptoms of withdrawal that they can't work anymore. There have been reports of suicides, and heart attack victims because of the stress, and withdrawals. People are not able to fill their medications in Florida. Pharmacies are denying patients with board certified doctor prescriptions. They are discriminated against and profiled by all pharmacies, (I mean ALL), basically being judged as if they look like they really need the medications. Pharmacy chain stores are not receiving enough medications to fill prescriptions. The state is not allowing enough meds to enter the state to meet the needs of patients. Currently in Florida we have a population of 19,057,542 . We Estimate that there are 6 million chronic pain patients due to the large retiree population of 65% of senior citizens in FL. Small mom pop pharmacies do have some medications but they selling the meds to the highest payer. They are refusing insurance as payment for these meds. Oxycodone pills are being price gouged and charged for generic from $6 to $15 dollars pill for this medication. Since this has happened with this med. All pain medications are being price gouged. Estimates for these: Dilaudid is $4 to $6 dollars each, methadone is $ 4 to $6 dollars a pill. Long acting meds can be found but extremely limited. Ms. Ratliff states that she has been contacted by Bob Twillman AAPM (American Academy of Pain Medicine), that he gets contacted from Pharma-Perdue because patients can't find OxyContin. Then Bob calls me to see where they can possibly be found. I have no idea anymore where to send anyone. So all long acting medicines are still very hard find and prices for those are gouged from small pharmacies. Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, grocery stores all say they have no pain medicines and don't carry them anymore. Learn more or please donate at http://www.ffpcani.com/

United Healthcare & EcoMedia Support Garden; GlaxoSmithKline Drug Trial- Health Min10/11/12

01:52
A new survey by CVS Caremark of more than 2,400 of its retail pharmacists concludes that 62 percent of Americans believe the high cost of drugs is the biggest reason why as many as three out of four don't take medications as prescribed. Non-adherence results in an estimated $300 billion a year in additional U.S. health care spending. United Healthcare is supporting an innovative new Edible Landscape Garden in Green Bay, Wisconsin to provide healthy, affordable vegetables for the local community. Working through CBS EcoMedia's WellnessAd program that connects advertisers with health and wellness projects in communities across the country, United Healthcare funding and volunteers have helped prepare the garden for planting next spring. GlaxoSmithKline has announced that the Phase III study comparing the effectiveness and safety of its drug to treat renal cell carcinoma has resulted in a statistically significant outcome in its favor for 11 of the 14 domains from four Quality of Life categories. The drug, pazopanib, was first approved by the FDA in October 2009 and has received conditional marketing authorization in the E.U. in 2010. The Persecution of The Chronically Ill

09:03
What more can I say about this series? Yes, opioid overdoses are a problem. No, it is still not an epidemic. I dream about one day living in a world where people are willing to see the chronically ill as human beings just trying to live their best life, instead of as addicts out to game the system. My goal with these "Slow Death of Compassion" videos was to tell the other side of the opioid crisis narrative, a side that is *still* woefully underreported on mainstream media outlets. The problems of addiction and chronic pain cannot be solved by blanket legislation that introduces more complications into the lives of people whose lives are hard enough as it is.
