An introduction or beginner lesson on addition problems with a missing number - also called "missing addend problems". For example, we consider the problem 1 + ___ = 4, but since children tend to confuse this with 1 + 4, I start out by placing the TOTAL at the top of the visual model (dots on die faces). So, it reads kind of like: 4 1 + __ This positioning is to help children understand better the concept, and not to get a misconception that it means 1 + 4. From that we then transition to the regular way to write the addition horizontally, such as ___ + 2 = 3. Lastly in the lesson we even drop the visual model of dots -- by this time the children can probably think the answers and get them correct! This lesson is meant for early 1st grade or kindergarten. I use very small numbers (from 0 to 5) so that even young children can understand the idea. Check out also my free books and worksheets at http://www.mathmammoth.com/free

DIY Gumball Machine at home?😳 YAY!🍭 Slime Sam is making another vending machine handicraft🤗 Easy tutorial and candy machine party - all in one episode🤩😍 It's no secret that Slime Sam loves two things in life most of all - DIY and sweets. You probably can remember many episodes when he does unbelievable (although entertaining) things to get his slimy hands on candies, chocolate, cookies, donuts, desserts, bubble gum, yummy fruits, and other sweet treats whenever he has a chance. And of course, he can't imagine his life of a kid slime without making all kinds of arts and crafts! He gets upset when Sue is crafting without him and shows their viewers interesting tips and tricks, he can't fell asleep without knowing how to make school supplies and his day always gets better once Sue comes up with easy and simple DIY ideas. So when two of his favorite things come together Slime Sam is over the moon! DIY+candy=DIY candy machine! Sue and Sam have already made a few candy machines using different tools and supplies, even LEGO candy machine! If you remember any of candy machine crafts give at thumbs up! So today our talented YouTubers will show you an easy step-by-step tutorial on how to make a candy machine. And not just any candy machine, but gumball machine! Just like the one you'd see in a shopping mall or in a store. This one is even better, it's small, cute and absolutely free! As for any cardboard craft you will need: - lots of corrugated cardboard (regular cardboard will not make a sturdy construction, the thicker the better); - scissors; - a paper knife or a cutter; - A LOAD of hot glue sticks; - bamboo skewers; - clear plastic to make a transparent dome; - colored paper for decoration; - googly eyes for decor. It's important to make all the cardboard details by the measurements given in the video. They use a metric system and all measurements are in centimeters. - - - 10 random facts about Slime Sam 🤪Sam loves making his cat Fluffy crazy. It's an act of love and the poor cat very rarely has a choice. 😎Sam doesn't really need glasses, his vision is fine. But he feels like this is an important addition to his image. Slime fashion, people. 😏If something is wrong in the house, you gotta know it was Sam. Most likely he won't admit it until caught red-handed. 🤩Sam genuinely loves his channel and subscribers. All funny crafts and simple DIYs help him to accomplish his life mission. He wants all kids in the world to learn useful things, be very smart and educated and develop DIY skills that will help them at school and later in life. 😤Sam can't stand criticism. Sue often has a very hard time trying to get her point across when he is doing something wrong. 😅Sam has a complicated relationship with scotch tape. Although he admits it might be very useful when making crafts, there were multiple occasions when he got himself into very delicate situations involving sticky tape. 😌Slime Sam is a great artist. Crayons, pencils, paints - he does it all. He knows how to draw anything, he gives drawing lessons, teaches an art class and paints in different techniques. Coincidentally Sue is a very talented artist too (do the math). 😇Sam is very kind and gentle inside. Deep inside. Deep-deep-deep inside. 😉Slime Sam doesn't have hands but he has a magic ability to lift and carry different things. 😋Sam has a history with his bath ducky. As young educators, we know that all students learn math differently and that a one-size-fits-all approach is simply ineffective. The idea that the ability to understand mathematics is reserved for a select few did not sit well with us. In addition to sharing free teacher resources (which are teacher created resources) in the form of teacher worksheets, we share new YouTube math videos every week that help math teachers and students to better understand mathematics and the common core. Our lessons can be aligned with the common core standards for common core math and are immensely popular with flipped learning educators and anyone experimenting with flipped classroom learning. As educators, we know what it takes to be a super math teacher and that we can’t always do it alone. In addition to our cool math videos, we share articles, blogs, inspirational quotes, teacher math worksheets, and math worksheets. Whether you teach in the flipped classroom, operate in blended education or online blended learning, or are interested in finding cool math online, MashUp Math will have something for you! Math and Lego, these are two things that come along with one another perfectly because counting with the different Lego pieces is interesting for the kids. This is not just about counting, but it will also take the kids a little bit further with learning to subtract and add. The Lego math lesson should be creative, even if this creativity will only appear in the display. In this math game for kids, the idea is in drawing a street with different blocks scattered all around it. Every single block (or square) drawn on the paper should carry a number on it, this number will help in the game when it starts, it will let the kids know the number which they are supposed to place on every single block. The number of Lego pieces taken every single time will depend on the number appearing on the dice. For example, if the first number the kid receives is 2, he/she will choose to place those Lego pieces in any of the blocks if the number on them is bigger or equal, and in case it is bigger, the next time the kid should make sure to use the number of Lego pieces which are going to fulfill the number of the block they are standing on. Playing with the kids while teaching them something is always one of the methods that would help them to focus on getting the answer and at the same time use their mind to think when it comes to subtraction and addition in order to bring out the right answers at the end. Using the Lego pieces is always a good idea because the kids usually love to play with them in general and create some shapes, so when they are asked to count while they are building their shapes, they will easily do it and when they are asked to add or subtract while they are also building their blocks of Lego, they will find it easier to find the final answer as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdlIHYRnjAg). There are lots of different ideas to use when it comes to math and since we are referring to the methods related to counting then we should say that there are lots of games to be used for such a purpose. Kids could learn to count while making shapes with play-doh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEQQl0u2Muk), they could count with using cheerios or other sweets and be rewarded with them at the end (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rJbXeuhHfY) and they could also learn to count through the ordinary ways of writing the numbers on a piece of paper. When you are playing with your kids and trying to teach them something, always give them the time and freedom to think and do whatever they want because that will give them the time and the chance to think and consider the answer before finally saying it out loud. Don't rush the kids or make them feel that they are late in their answer, this will always ruin everything for them. There are different games and lessons which kids could depend on in order to learn to count correctly, and when we say count then we are also referring to addition and subtraction, and Lego is one of the most effective since it manages to let the kids not only think about counting and making shapes, but it also gives them the chance to consider the size and the colors when they are working out the whole thing, so it gives them the permission to think about the equation from different corners (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLfSeSHWE78). What else do you think could be taught through using the Lego pieces other than counting in the math lessons? We believe that in addition to math and counting, Lego could also be useful when it is used in teaching the kids to become creative by asking them to build their own shapes or castles, this will usually give them the freedom to show you where they could actually reach with their creativity. Lego is also one of the methods used while teaching kids the English alphabet and letting the kids build the letters through the different colorful pieces (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT8ImgjSA-g). Do you want to teach your child how to count? We got it all wrapped as a gift for you! There are different counting methods that parents homeschooling their kids could depend on and this is one that is suitable for the ages between 3 and 6, kindergarten, preschool, ks1, foundation stage and grade 1. Counting is the first step taken in the world of math and sometimes kids learn to count through playing some games, which is the work of the parents and the creative lesson ideas they will manage to get up with. In this educational video, the lesson will be about teaching the kids to count through using their toys. Divide yourself into two groups - the parent as a group and the kid as the second - and bring two huge plastic cups for every single one to use one of them in order to place the objects inside. Every single one will choose the objects that he/she wants or loves the most - in our case it was all about the small characters for James and the Lego blocks for me. Bring a dice and let the kid throw it first and the number that he/she will get is the number of monsters that he/she should throw inside the plastic cup. This will happen in turn between the kid and the parent and the one getting the bigger number at the end of the game will be the winner. For choosing the dice, there are two different options and this will always depend on the child and the level he/she have reached at school, it could be the dice with dots instead of the numbers so that the kid could count them and there is also the one with the numbers written down for those who count recognize the numbers easily (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYmMjMBjMcI). While the kids are placing their objects inside the plastic cup, parents should ask them along the way how many do they have inside to see whether the kids are keeping up with the numbers they are adding up inside the cup or else not and also let the kids learn how to add things up and learn to count (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wvSw8hoXPI). In order to see whether the kids are paying attention to the steps taken throughout the game or else not, you should make a mistake along the way and see what they are going to see and how they will tell you to solve the question - you mind find that they are changing the rules of the game for the mistake you have made! It is also important to ask the kids to count along with you when you are counting your pieces as some kind of help and at the same time to let them practice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roMEZv1OObc). This is one of the different games that kids could learn to count through and one of the different methods that parents homeschooling their children could try and have some fun along the way while teaching their kids some math lessons. There are some other games to try here, we have some links here on our channel to help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3q7imQuRBQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roMEZv1OObc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-YBC4LPOQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsx_YrR9CmE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I0FdpAigpU Such games will give the child more self confidence when they find themselves winning the game and counting correctly and they will be also looking forward to the challenge of winning the game and letting their parents be the losers. Another important thing is to give the child the chance to be the one in control and count along with you when you are counting to give them the chance to practice and at the same time give them the feeling that they are the correct ones to check on what you are doing. Parents should never worry about the time their kids might be taking to learn a new lesson because they will eventually get there and learn everything. Children are not the same when it comes to learning, so some might take longer in a specific lesson than others, but they all get there at the end and learn the lesson delivered to them, they just need a little bit of more practice. Play along with your child while homeschooling him/her and let us know how it all turned at the end, did they enjoy counting their small characters and toys?
