MD Anderson hosted a news conference with Nobel Prize winner Jim Allison, Ph.D. Allison was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for launching an effective new way to attack cancer by treating the immune system rather than the tumor. Allison is the first MD Anderson scientist to receive the world’s most preeminent award for outstanding discoveries in the fields of life sciences and medicine. “I’m honored and humbled to receive this prestigious recognition,” Allison said. “A driving motivation for scientists is simply to push the frontiers of knowledge. I didn’t set out to study cancer, but to understand the biology of T cells, these incredible cells that travel our bodies and work to protect us.” Allison started his career at MD Anderson in 1977, arriving as one of the first employees of a new basic science research center located in Smithville, Texas. He was recruited back to MD Anderson in November 2012 to lead the Immunology Department and to establish an immunotherapy research platform for MD Anderson’s Moon Shots Program. The prize recognizes Allison’s basic science discoveries on the biology of T cells, the adaptive immune system’s soldiers, and his invention of immune checkpoint blockade to treat cancer. Allison’s crucial insight was to block a protein on T cells that acts as a brake on their activation, freeing the T cells to attack cancer. He developed an antibody to block the checkpoint protein CTLA-4 and demonstrated the success of the approach in experimental models. His work led to development of the first immune checkpoint inhibitor drug. Ipilimumab was approved for late-stage melanoma by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011. His drug, known commercially as Yervoy, became the first to extend the survival of patients with late-stage melanoma. Follow-up studies show 20 percent of those treated live for at least three years with many living for 10 years and beyond, unprecedented results. Subsequent research has extended this approach to new immune regulatory targets, most prominently PD-1 and PD-L1, with drugs approved to treat certain types and stages of melanoma, lung, kidney, bladder, gastric, liver, cervical, colorectal, and head and neck cancers and Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Clinical trials are underway in many other cancer types. Conducting cancer research in the microgravity environment of the International Space Station offers unique insight into the genetic and cellular processes that can’t be duplicated on Earth. Luis Zea, a research associate at BioServe Space Technologies, explains that cells grown in space arrange themselves into three-dimensional groupings, or aggregates, which more closely resemble what happens in the body. Such research could help scientists pinpoint the cellular changes that cause cancer, potentially leading to new treatments that enhance the quality of life for patients or potentially develop preventive measures. By Dr. Mercola Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski received much deserved publicity with the release of the 2011 film, Burzynski—The Movie. Eric Merola's award-winning documentary showcased Dr. Burzynski's remarkable cancer discovery for all the world to see, and explained how he won the largest and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battles against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in American history. Dr. Burzynski's story now continues in the compelling follow-up film: Burzynski—Cancer Is Serious Business, Part II. This second film details his continued struggles and victories, and explores the current status of Antineoplastons' clinical testing—now (finally) sanctioned by the FDA. Dr. Burzynski's Cancer Treatment Dr. Burzynski, trained as both a biochemist and a physician, has spent the last 35+ years developing and successfully treating cancer patients suffering with some of the most lethal forms of cancer at his clinic in Houston, Texas. The treatment he developed involves a gene-targeted approach using non-toxic peptides and amino acids, known as Antineoplastons. I personally interviewed Dr. Burzynski about his treatment in the summer of 2011. He coined the term "antineoplastons" and defines them as peptides and derivatives of amino acids that act as molecular switches. However, as genome research blossomed and science progressed, Dr. Burzynski discovered that antineoplastons also work as genetic switches. They actually turn off the genes that cause cancer (oncogenes), and turn on or activate tumor suppressor genes—genes that fight cancer. His treatment strategy, which he refers to as "Personalized Gene Targeted Cancer Therapy," includes mapping the patient's entire cancer genome. This involves analyzing some 24,000 genes in order to identify the abnormal genes. Once they've determined which genes are involved in the cancer, drugs and supplements are identified to target those specific genes. Antineoplastons work on approximately 100 cancer-causing genes, but traditional oncology agents (including chemotherapy) may also be used, typically in combination with antineoplastons. This expanded direction of "personalized gene-targeted treatment" has permitted people who would otherwise be denied access to the still-unapproved antineoplastons to benefit from his treatment. Armed with National Cancer Institute funding, Cecilia Williams, an assistant professor in the University of Houston's Biology and Biochemistry Department, is leading single-cell level research aimed at better preventing and treating colon cancer and two types of breast cancer. Williams is studying estrogen hormones and the mechanics of regulatory molecules called nuclear receptors. Williams believes estrogen can help combat inflammation in colon cells and 'turn off' cancer-promoting genes. "Estrogen receptor beta is the one that appears protective against colon cancer," said Williams. "So, if you can activate that one (nuclear receptor), specifically in the colon, then we could prevent or delay colon cancer development." Williams is currently working to better understand exactly how this is able to happen and is testing a hypothesis.

If "they" didn't want people to get cancer, they would be focusing more on finding and eliminating the causes and educating people rather than coming up with more expensive, toxic drugs that often time cause more problems than they cure. Nearly a million people die a year at the hands of the medical cartel. Why is this not on the lame-stream news?

More: http://www.burzynskimovie.com/ About the director: http://merolaproductions.com/eric-merola-bio/ A 2016 updated version of this story: http://estore.burzynskimovie.com/ More info http://www.burzynskimovie.com Directed by Eric Merola http://www.ericmerola.com Learn more about the director: http://merolaproductions.com/eric-merola-bio Burzynski, the Movie is an internationally award-winning documentary originally released in 2010 (with an Extended Edition released in 2011) that tells the true story of a medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist named Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski who won the largest, and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battle against the Food & Drug Administration in American history. His victorious battles with the United States government were centered around Dr. Burzynski's gene-targeted cancer medicines he discovered in the 1970's called Antineoplastons, which have currently completed Phase II FDA-supervised clinical trials in 2009 and has been given permission by the FDA to begin the final phase of FDA testing--randomized controlled clinical trials. When Antineoplastons are approved, it will mark the first time in history a single scientist, not a pharmaceutical company, will hold the exclusive patent and distribution rights on a paradigm-shifting medical breakthrough. Antineoplastons are responsible for curing some of the most incurable forms of terminal cancer. Various cancer survivors are presented in the film who chose these medicines instead of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation - with full disclosure of medical records to support their diagnosis and recovery - as well as systematic (non-anecdotal) FDA-supervised clinical trial data comparing Antineoplastons to other available treatments—which is published within the peer-reviewed medical literature. One form of cancer - diffuse, intrinsic, childhood brainstem glioma has never before been cured in any scientifically controlled clinical trial in the history of medicine. Antineoplastons hold the first cures in history - dozens of them. [ Read completely Phase 2 clinical trial reports and other pee-reviewed data on Antineoplastons: http://burzynskimovie.com/index.php/component/content/article/166 ] This documentary takes the audience through the treacherous, yet victorious, 14-year journey both Dr. Burzynski and his patients have had to endure in order to obtain FDA-approved clinical trials of Antineoplastons. Dr. Burzynski resides and practices medicine in Houston, Texas. He was able to initially produce and administer his discovery without FDA-approval from 1977-1995 because the state of Texas at this time did not require that Texas physicians be required to adhere to Federal law in this situation. This law has since been changed. As with anything that changes current-day paradigms, Burzynski's ability to successfully treat incurable cancer with such consistency has baffled the industry. Ironically, this fact had prompted numerous investigations by the Texas Medical Board, who relentlessly took Dr. Burzynski as high as the state supreme court in their failed attempt to halt his practices. Likewise, the Food and Drug Administration engaged in four Federal Grand Juries spanning over a decade attempting to indict Dr. Burzynski, all of which ended in no finding of fault on his behalf. Finally, Dr. Burzynski was indicted in their 5th Grand Jury in 1995, resulting in two federal trials and two sets of jurors finding him not guilty of any wrongdoing. If convicted, Dr. Burzynski would have faced a maximum of 290 years in a federal prison and $18.5 million in fines. However, what was revealed a few years after Dr. Burzynski won his freedom, helps to paint a more coherent picture regarding the true motivation of the United States government's relentless persecution of Stanislaw Burzynski, M.D., Ph.D. Note: When Antineoplastons are approved for public use, it will allow a single scientist to hold an exclusive right to manufacture and sell these medicines on the open market—potentially leaving the pharmaceutical industry absent in profiting from the most effective gene-targeted cancer treatment the world has ever seen.

Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in January 2000 was a terrifying déjà vu for 38-year-old Joann Harkins. She had watched her mother die from the disease at age 43 and feared she would suffer the same fate. Her fears gave way to hope when she arrived at MD Anderson. Harkins found herself under the care of Robert C. Bast, M.D., vice president for Translational Research and professor of Experimental Therapeutics, and advance practice nurse Mary Hernandez. They launched a strategic attack against Harkins' condition: stage 3B inflammatory breast cancer with lymph node involvement. Harkins learned that hers is the deadliest type of breast cancer, with a survival rate of only 15% with standard treatment. She quickly entered a research protocol treatment that increased her survival rate to 45%. Today Harkins is cancer-free. Having grown up in Central Texas, Harkins was aware of the Cattlemen for Cancer Research, an organization founded by a group of compassionate and generous Central Texans. Cattlemen for Cancer Research is dedicated to supporting cancer research at MD Anderson's Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research near Bastrop. Harkins began supporting the organization's annual fundraising auction and in 2007 was named the Cattlemen for Cancer Research Honorary Cancer Survivor. Harkins never forgot her lifesaving treatment at MD Anderson or the staff who stood by her side. When she heard about the Cattlemen for Cancer Research Hero Award, established in 2010 to honor an MD Anderson clinician or scientist for outstanding contributions to the care of patients from Central Texas, Harkins followed her heart and nominated Bast, also recognizing Hernandez as part of an "awesome team." "They were always very kind and caring," says Harkins. Bast is humble when asked about the honor and insists on sharing it with Hernandez. "Mary and I are deeply grateful to the Cattlemen for Cancer Research," he says. "But in truth, our patients are the heroes and heroines. Their courage, endurance, equanimity and good humor inspire us every day."

The Grand Prix of Houston, Oct. 4-6 at Reliant Park, revved up MD Anderson's mission to eradicate cancer by generating more than $160,000 for cancer research and patient care initiatives. The institution was the 2013 event sponsor of the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston presented by the Greater Houston Honda Dealers. It was also the primary beneficiary of action-packed opportunities created by Grand Prix Charities of Houston, a 501c3 organization, enabling spectators to have fun while helping speed the search for a cure. In addition, 2012 IndyCar Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay presented $100,000 to the MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital's ON to Life pediatric nutrition research program through Racing for Cancer, a nonprofit organization he co-founded with Tom Vossman. Flags Over MD Anderson Cancer Center Speedway generated sales of more than 100 commemorative, personalized flags that lined the 1.7-mile course. Flags purchased at the $1,000 level were autographed by champions of the weekend's two IndyCar races. Supporters of a celebrity go-kart race, on an indoor track sponsored by MSR Houston, also helped accelerate the fight against cancer. With Craig Roberts of News 92 FM as master of ceremonies, go-kart teams consisting of a designated celebrity and a sponsor representative entertained hundreds gathered for the fast-paced fun. Celebrity participants included former Houston Astros manager Phil Garner, Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson, former Astros pitcher Brandon Backe, KTRK-TV anchor Ilona Carson, KPRC-TV meteorologist Khambrel Marshall, musician Lyle Lovett, Sports 790's Doug Pike and Charlie Pallilo, NASCAR champion Brad Coleman, pro golfer Fuzzy Zoeller and Hunter-Reay's wife, Beccy Hunter-Reay. Team sponsors included Kirby Black, Cisco, Energy Quest II, ERG Resources, Russell Gordy, Jason's Deli, IBM, Love Advertising, Racing for Cancer and Joe Rubbo. The flag sales and celebrity go-kart race netted $60,000 for MD Anderson's Moon Shots Program. MSR Houston continued its support throughout the "Three-Day Festival of Speed," offering go-kart rides for spectators and donating a portion of ticket sales totaling more than $1,800.
