On March 16th, 2013, 200 monarch butterflies were released before the Komen Race for the Cure at Girard Park in Lafayette, Louisiana. Rachel was one of many survivors, families and friends coming together to celebrate another beautiful day while supporting the fight to cure breast cancer. The butterflies flew freely over the crowd into a beautiful blue sky. One landed on Rachel. Later, everyone gathered to start the race. There were over 6,000 participants. Rachel and her family were at the start, and guess who came along for the ride....? The butterfly stayed with her through the long race! Eventually, Rachel said goodbye to her race companion, placed the butterfly on a tree in the park and finished the race with her family. The next day, two monarch butterflies visited Rachel's family at their home outside of Lafayette. Rachel had never seen monarch butterflies there prior to the race. http://www.breastcenterofacadiana.org/
