Gilly's Brain Cancer Recovery : Aug 2017 : NAGALASE BLOOD TEST SUCCESS!
Hey guys! I got some really good news today I want to share with you regarding my cancer! Since I started chemotherapy last March (2016), I have been doing a cancer marker test every few months. The test is called the Nagalase Blood test. Nagalase is an enzyme which is secreted into the blood only by virus and cancer cells. Cancer cells use the enzyme to effectively hide the cancer cells from the immune system's "macrophages" - these are cells designed to detect harmful cells like cancer in the body and get rid of them. But when the cancer cells secrete Nagalase, the macrophages can no longer detect the cancer cells which means they do not kill them like they would if they were still detectable and not hidden by the nagalase enzymes. I hope that is clear and understandable! Now, the optimum Nagalase level to have in your blood to indicate NO to LOW cancer cell activity is [0.50-0.95] nMol/ml/min - the unit of measurement is pronounced "mols". The healthy level of Nagalase in your blood is reportedly [0.65] nMol/ml/min. I started chemo at the beginning of March 2016 and I had my first Nagalase blood test on the 12th March. The reading came back as 0.90. By the 5th round of chemo I took a second Nagalase test and the result came back as 0.60. This was a good indicator that the chemotherapy was indeed working! I finished chemo at the end of July 2016 and had another Nagalase test done at the start of September but I forgot to collect that result. At the end of 2016 I was preoccupied with my aunt's brain cancer diagnosis from which she eventually passed away just 2 months later in November. The new year came around and I was reminded by my nutritionist to take the Nagalase test again to check my levels. I got around to it by February 17th 2017 which is when I realised I had never collected the result from the September 2016 test! I reminded the lab when I went to have the new test done, and I received both results a few weeks later. I was depressed to learn that the September reading was 1.09 and now the Feb 2017 reading was 1.67 - Both readings were scarily above the safe range which indicates HIGH cancer cell activity! Naturally I did have a mini-breakdown which led me to throw myself back into all the reading and I thought hard about what I could do to improve my odds and lower that Nagalase level back down again. I did not want to have to go on chemo again to bring it down! No way! These are the changes I decided to make: I reverted back to eating (organic grass-fed) meat again in small quantities, after reading so much new nutritional research on the importance of vital vitamins and essential fats you get from (organic grass-fed) meats and organs like liver, kidneys and sweetbreads. Alongside that, I also put a much greater emphasis on consuming many more cruciferous vegetables on a daily basis. I began reading up a lot about what foods were most beneficial for the brain and these just so happen to align with eating extremely nutritiously! The knock-on effect being better functioning body and its organs as a whole, increased energy and well-being. Win win, really! I already knew that cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. So I also started Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in April, the first month was 3-4 days a week and now I continue on a maintenance program of 2 days a week. Since February I also greatly increased my exercise routine - again to increase oxygen levels in my cells. From 2-3 times a week, I began to exercise at least 5 days a week - mostly a mix of rebounding, playing squash and yin yoga. I also researched herbs which could help regulate my blood sugar levels. This is because when your blood sugar spikes, there is an inflammatory effect in your cells. When you have cancer, you want to avoid anything that promotes inflammation. From the reading I did, I found that this includes most types of grains, even the "healthy" wholegrains, and of course anything containing sugar which spikes your blood sugar very quickly. I also found 2 herbs which help control your blood sugar, one is even used as a natural alternative to a pharmaceutical diabetic medication called Metformin. So I really believe and attribute all of these lifestyle changes to the significant drop in my Nagalase test result which is now [0.66] nMol/ml/min!! That's only JUST over the ideal healthy level!!! Chemotherapy achieved it last year, and this year I have achieved the same through purely lifestyle changes! It is amazing just what the body is capable of if we just give it the right food and environment! This all motivates me to stay on track and continue this amazing journey back to optimum health even more! Thanks for watching if you could bear to watch the video!!! Haha! LOVE GILLY XOXO

====================================================== SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL PLEASE.... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWDyU5Z3SKdlZ0tL8WLsvRw?sub_confirmation=1 ===================================================== How to Get a Blood Test Doctors order blood tests for a variety of reasons. This is because there is almost no better indicator of overall health than the number of levels and other factors that can be measured through a blood test. Unfortunately, for many people taking a blood test is a very nerve racking and uncomfortable thing to do. Not only is someone sticking a needle into your veins and causing you pain, but they’re extracting blood (sometimes in large quantities) from you before your eyes. Thankfully, having your blood taken is a relatively short event. It’ll be over quickly, and afterwards you’ll be able to rest assured knowing that your doctor will have important information about your health. Talk to your doctor. The best person to determine if your signs or symptoms demand a blood test is your doctor. If you need one, she will prescribe it and provide you with a blood work order.Discuss blood work with a nutritionist. You might need your blood work ordered for non-medical purposes. Discuss blood work with a nutritionist. You might need your blood work ordered for non-medical purposes. Talk about potential blood work with a sports medicine doctor. If you're an athlete, suffer from certain muscular problems, or have suffered some sort of muscular injury, your sports medicine doctor might also order blood work.Consult with your naturopathic specialist about blood work. Naturopathic specialists or doctors combine natural remedies and medical science to treat an array of afflictions. Have your blood tested without a medical professional. Today, many labs are increasingly allowing individuals to have their blood drawn and tested without an order or prescription from a medical professional.Prepare for your blood test. Depending on the type of blood work your doctor or other medical professional has ordered, there are a number of things you need to do to prepare for the test. Take your prescription to a hospital or lab. After your doctor has evaluated whether you need blood work or not, take your prescription to a hospital or lab. Provide the phlebotomists with information. When you are called in at the lab or hospital, a phlebotomist (a person trained to extract blood from patients) will sit you down and may ask you questions.Let the phlebotomist draw your blood. After you relax your arm, the phlebotomist will then draw your blood. Ultimately, this is the moment you've been waiting for. The actual blood being drawn won't take too long, so relax.Avoid making yourself anxious. As the phlebotomist is drawing your blood, try to avoid doing things that might cause you anxiety, and push negative thoughts aside. If the sight of blood makes you feel faint, don’t look at the blood being drawn out of your arm. Test your blood for various non-life threatening reasons. Pregnancy Test & Testicular Cancer
Since the late 1970s women have been home testing to find out if they're pregnant. The telltale marker speaks volumes. "Pregnancy tests work by picking up BETA HCG, which is a hormone made by women during pregnancy," says Dr. Frank Rodriguez, oncologist on Lee Memorial Health System medical staff. Meant for female use, the test has implications beyond what you'd expect for men. In fact, it's possible that a man can test positive- but the results have nothing to do with a baby. "BETA HCG is not normally made up by men, however with testicular cancer there can be a development of cells that are not normally growing or active in normal men. But as those cells become malignant they may revert back to some of the more primitive functions and they may make BETA HCG. So you can certainly have a positive pregnancy test as a man if you have testicular cancer that has HCG," says Dr. Rodriguez. There have been cases, as recent as last fall, when a man discovered his testicular cancer after taking a pregnancy test as a joke. "At the hospital a lot of times if I have a testicular cancer patient I'll order BETA HCG and they'll run a pregnancy test and it will come back positive," says Dr. Rodriguez. While it may be positive indicator, using a pregnancy test as a cancer screener is getting negative reviews. "If you're a man and you're between the ages of 17 and 35 it's probably not a bad idea to do self testicular exams and if you find an abnormality or nodule certainly bring it up with your primary care doctor. Which I think, is a much more effective way of screening for cancer then buying pregnancy tests," says Dr. Rodriguez. How is the PSA Test Used to Diagnose Prostate Cancer?
Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, is a protein produced in the prostate gland. The PSA test is used to measure the amount of that protein in a man's blood. PSA levels in men with prostate cancer are generally high. Doctors use this test along with other data to help diagnose prostate cancer in men. Dr. Richard Bevan-Thomas explains how that is done in this video. 5 Colon Cancer Symptoms that are Easy to Overlook
5 Colon Cancer Symptoms that are Easy to Overlook Colon and rectal cancer, together known as colorectal cancers, are the third most common type of cancer in men and women, resulting in nearly 50,000 deaths per year. Colon cancer is more common than people might think, which can cause the warning signs to be overlooked. The signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer depend on the location of the cancer, how advanced it is and how it affects the organs and tissue. One sign or symptom alone may not be enough to determine the cause, but if several symptoms are present, a doctor can get a better idea of the potential cause. At times, symptoms of colorectal cancer may not show up until the cancer has advanced. Because symptoms can go unnoticed during the early stages of the disease, guidelines recommend colon cancer screenings begin at age 50. Statistics show that regular screenings could prevent over 60 percent of deaths from colon cancer. 1. Unexplained Weight Loss Sudden weight loss is often a symptom of several types of cancer, including colon cancer. Unintentional weight loss is the loss of 10 pounds or more in six months or less without knowing the reason. Colorectal cancer can lead to unexplained weight loss in a variety of ways. Cancer cells use up a lot of the body’s energy supply, and the immune system also uses energy as it works hard to fight the disease. Cancer cells can release substances into the body that change the way food is converted to energy, which can cause weight loss. Additionally, if a tumor in the colon gets large enough, it could block the colon. This blockage can affect a person’s bowel habits, which can then lead to unexplained weight loss. 2. Fatigue and Weakness It can be easy to confuse fatigue with simply being tired. Between work and personal obligations, everyone can feel run down at times. If the exhaustion does not go away with rest, it could be fatigue. In addition to colorectal cancer, fatigue and weakness could also be symptoms of diabetes, anemia and heart disease. Fatigue Causes Similar to unexplained weight loss, cancer cells can cause fatigue as they use up the body’s energy. Sometimes colon cancer can cause fatigue due to internal blood loss from the disease. In many cases, the symptoms of colon cancer are connected. Other colon cancer symptoms, such as unintentional weight loss and a change in bowel habits, can increase the feeling of weakness. Fatigue Symptoms Fatigue is typically a symptom of an underlying condition. Fatigue is a constant state of weakness and exhaustion with no apparent cause. If you feel what could be fatigue, it’s important to visit your doctor to determine the cause. 3. Abdominal Cramps Many people have abdominal pain at some point in their lives, and like many symptoms, it can seem minor. It is a common symptom of noncancerous conditions, such as hemorrhoids and irritable bowel syndrome. However, abdominal pain that began recently and is severe and long-lasting can be a sign of cancer. Colon cancer occurs in the large intestine, which can affect bowel habits. This change in bowel habits can lead to cramping, bloating and abdominal pain and could be an indicator of colon cancer. 4. Blood in Stool A warning sign for colon or rectal cancer is blood in the stool. Sometimes you may notice bright red spots, and other times it may not be visible to the naked eye. The severity of symptoms depends on the advancement and location of the disease. Stool could also appear very dark or black, signifying the presence of dried blood. If you see any sign of blood in your stool, you should consult your doctor. A fecal occult test can detect whether there is blood in the stool, and additional examinations can help your doctor determine the source of the blood and the proper course of treatment. Rectal bleeding Rectal bleeding usually comes from bleeding in the lower colon or rectum and is a common symptom of colorectal cancer. Bright red blood on the toilet paper after a bowel movement or red or pink water in the toilet bowl can be signs of rectal bleeding. People often attribute rectal bleeding to hemorrhoids, which can prevent an early cancer diagnosis. Anyone experiencing bleeding from the rectum should see a doctor immediately. If you are over 40, a physician will likely recommend tests such as a colonoscopy to rule out cancer. 5. Change in Bowel Habits A colon polyp, a small clump of cells on the lining of the colon, can develop into cancer over time. Once the polyp turns into cancer, the slow growth of the tumor often affects bowel habits, which can produce symptoms. If you’ve noticed your stool becoming thinner or a change in the frequency of bowel movements, it could be a sign of colorectal cancer. Prostate cancer expert takes on contradictory advice about PSA testing
Conflicting recommendations on prostate cancer screening have left some men confused about PSA tests. In this Expert's Corner video, UMass Medical School urologist Jennifer Yates, MD, discusses what men and their doctors should consider when deciding whether to test. http://www.umassmed.edu/news/2013/community/prostate-cancer-expert-advice-about-PSA-testing.aspx "The patient needs to be educated about 'What is a PSA?' and 'What is it going to indicate?'" said Dr. Yates, assistant professor of urology and director of minimally invasive urologic surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center. "Understanding the PSA test is not the greatest test for prostate cancer is the first step." PSA test results can be misleading. It's possible for PSA levels to be elevated when cancer isn't present, and not elevated when it is. Findings of elevated levels may be followed by a biopsy, an invasive procedure which causes pain, lost time from daily activities and risk of infection. Even when cancer is present, it may be so slow-growing that it will never require treatment. Despite this, many men will choose treatment over uncertainty. The inherent uncertainty of PSA tests may explain why recommendations from reputable medical organizations vary in terms of who to test and when. For example, the United States Preventive Services Task Force says no men should undergo routine PSA testing because the risks outweigh the benefits. The American Urological Association's recommends all men between the ages of 55 and 70 consider, in consultation with their doctors, commencing an ongoing PSA screening program. However, the AUA advises against PSA screening for men who are older than 70, or have less than a 10- to 15-year life expectancy. All this still doesn't mean that younger men should never be tested with the PSA test. "If they have a strong family history of prostate cancer, if they have some sort of symptoms or signs or any other evidence that makes us suspicious, it doesn't mean we're prohibited from doing a PSA on these patients," Yates noted. In addition to a man's age, other factors to consider when deciding for or against PSA testing is family history of prostate cancer, evidence of prostate gland enlargement or inflammation, and any emotional and lifestyle concerns. The takeaway from all the recommendations, according to Yates, is that, "Men between the ages of 55 and 69 are the ones who stand to benefit the most from PSA screening." And even then, a decision needs to be made based on each individual's risk factors and personal preferences "The most important aspect we can emphasize is that we don't just check PSA as a routine," Yates said.

In this video I'll explain you the differences of the two blood tests and which one is truly healthier. For those that don't know why they should listen to me : I'm certified in plant-based nutrition and fitness training. I've transitioned from a heavy meat eating diet to a vegan diet since 3+ years, plus I manage a fitness center with 1000+ members. In this video I'll explain you the differences of the two dietary styles and how it can impact your blood work. A lot of people think that the vegan diet simply can not be healthy. One part of being healthy is feeling healthy. How you feel during the day. Another part is having healthy blood work. Our blood work is important as it can give us insights into how our body is truly performing. Because our brain is like a king in a castle, far away from a village that it governs. Only key messengers can enter the castle, only few substances or neurotransmitters can enter the blood-brain barrier. Which means there are silent diseases, which can leave you terminally ill within weeks. But are getting built up months and even years before and could be detected by a proper blood test. Let's compare the results of Shawn Baker and Ryan from Happy Healthy Vegan: Fasting glucose – while Shawn Baker has a fasting glucose of 127 mg/dl , happy healthy vegan got a fasting glucose of 85. This is extremely fascinating, as shawn baker has little to no carbs in his diet. But what few people don't know is that animal fat can clog the entrance to the cells, for glucose, which is the main fuel for cells in the first place. Fasting glucose is not healthy, because it can indicate that our cells are not getting fed properly. A fasting glucose of over 125 is considered diabetic. Doesn't look good for our meat boy. Hemoglobin A1c – even the A1c levels put Shawn Baker on the pre-diabetic scale. The Hemoglobin - A1C is the percentage of the glucose carrier that every hemoglobin molecule takes with them. The higher the percentage, the more glucose seems to be in your blood stream. Again, also an indicator how well your body uses the fuel it has on it's hand. This is a long-term measure, as it reflects glucose levels over the last 2-3 months, compared to fasting glucose which is changed pretty rapidly. But again, Shawn is barely scraping by. While happy healthy vegan has A1c levels completely healthy. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) – Again, mr. baker is getting far through the roof. 29 mg per dl. This may indicate that shawn is simply eating a lot of protein. But it also can be traced back to impaired kidney functions. So high blood urea nitrogen levels are truly not optimal. Mr. vegan has 11mg per dl, again in the healthy range. Total Cholesterol – 205mg/dl for the carnivore guy, 195mg/dl for the vegan guy. Again pretty fascinating, surprisingly this this time not because of shawn. Because high cholesterol was basically expected in his case. But the vegan guy, as he had way more total cholesterol than expected. Ryan's explanation is that he ate vegan Ben Jerrys days before. Sounds about right. Total Testosterone – Now this is where it gets really exciting. The manly carnivore guy has a total testosterone of 237 nanograms per dl. This is so low, that he would be deficient even for a 100 year old guy. This is so low, that he should start hormone replacement therapy yesterday. This is so low, that he should ask for a ballsack prosthesis, because his own badboys are clearly not functioning. Vitamin D – Again, a pretty interesting finding. The doctor got base Vitamin D levels of 30, which is lower than the vegan, which apparently isn't supplementing with Vitamin D. I still recommend supplementing this supplementthough. While Shawn Baker can talk and talk and talk. Numbers don't lie. Blood tests don't lie. These findings are important because our nutritional choices can impact our physical health drastically. Overall I must conclude that Shawn Baker is probably pretty close to getting diabetes or scurvy in the near future. Not because I'm biased in my nutritional education and experience, but because of the numbers of the blood test in black and white. Scripps researchers develop blood test to predict heart attack
Originally published on January 10, 2014 A novel blood test developed by a team at the Scripps Research Institute may help diagnose patients at high risk for heart attacks. The new test, called HD-CEC Assay, detects for endothelial cells in circulation as an indicator for risk of heart attack. Being able to "measure and characterize [endothelial cells] in the blood of specific patient populations is a beautiful way of diagnosing disease and early intervention," said study co-author Peter Kuhn in a Live Science report. When plaque ruptures, it dislodges surrounding endothelial cells into circulation. The ruptured plaque circulates the bloodstream and causes a heart attack when it lodges into a coronary artery, cutting off blood flow and nutrients to heart muscles. To diagnose for risk for heart attacks, a blood sample is collected from the patient. Antibodies are used to detect endothelial cells that may have been released into circulation from ruptured plaque. Presence of these cells point to a high risk of heart attack. Data from the team's study suggests that healthy individuals have fewer than one endothelial cell in every millimeter of blood, in contrast to patients who are sampled immediately after a heart attack, with "more than 20 [endothelial cells] in a millimeter of blood," Kuhn said in the Live Science report. The turnaround time for this test is currently several hours but is expected to be shortened, Kuhn said. -------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. What Factors Cause An Increase In PSA Levels?
Often the concern that many men have when they’re informed that their PSA levels are elevated is whether they are at risk for developing prostate cancer. A PSA test is designed to measure the level of a protein in your blood called prostatic specific antigen. While prostate cancer will of course increase the levels of PSA in your blood stream, this increase isn’t always an indication of prostate cancer. There are number of things that can elevate your PSA levels that are not related to prostate cancer. In a majority of cases an elevated PSA may be an indicator of another disorder entirely that is affecting the prostate gland. Let’s take a look at some of the most common factors that can cause an increase in PSA levels. Causes for the increase in PSA Prostatitis: Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland due to a bacterial infection. The condition is treated with antibiotics and affects mostly males below the age of 50. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): Benign prostatic hyperplasia is an enlargement of the prostate gland which can cause difficulty with urination or increased frequency of urination. The condition itself is non-cancerous and primarily affects men over the age of 50. A digital rectal exam (DRE) is also conducted to properly diagnose BPH or other prostate related issues. Age: Age is one factor we simply have no control over. As men age PSA levels will gradually rise. For example, men with a PSA of 2.5 by the age of 40 is considered normal. A man who reaches the age of 60 will have a normal level of 4.5, what’s ironic however is that a younger man with a PSA score of 4.5 could potentially be at greater risk for prostate cancer. Sex (Ejaculation): Ejaculation during sexual intercourse can slightly raise PSA levels. They will generally return to normal within 48 hours. This slight increase however isn’t enough to make a significant difference unless your PSA level is borderline above normal. Before having a PSA test done ask your doctor if you should avoid sexual activity. Above all else it’s important that you don’t panic and closely examine all the factors relevant to you that may be causing an increase in your PSA. Get all the information you can and speak with your doctor before considering a biopsy to accurately determine if you do in fact have prostate cancer.
