Kanisha talks about her experience with birth control and the importance of advocating for reproductive rights. "When I turned 18 I saw something about IUDs and thought, years without thinking about my birth control? That's definitely something that I want." Your stories help ensure that we will continue to be there for the women, men, and teens who rely on Planned Parenthood for everything from birth control, prenatal care, HIV testing, cancer screenings, and comprehensive sexuality education to legislative advocacy and more. Has Planned Parenthood been there for you at some point in your life? Share your story today at http://plannedparenthood.org/get-involved/share-your-story/. We’d love to hear from you. SCRIPT: Kanisha: I first learned about Planned Parenthood when I was in high school. I really needed somewhere to turn to for birth control and I couldn’t really talk to my parents and school didn’t really help much. There was absolutely no judgment. They listened and that was the most important thing for me, and just having an adult there who did listen to me and validate things that were happening in my life, and treated me with respect. I first started on the pill, which I think most people do when they go on birth control. When I turned 18, I saw, something about IUDs and I figured “Yea, years without having to think about my birth control that’s something I definitely want.” My health insurance did not cover an IUD. This was before the Affordable Care Act, and when I was at Planned Parenthood I think the cost was about 100 dollars, I would not have been able to afford it had it not been for Planned Parenthood. Now, luckily because of the Affordable Care Act, women have the freedom in choosing what works best for them. Title card: Today, the average cost of an IUD ranges from $500-$1,000. Kanisha: When I was a patient at Planned Parenthood I had such a great experience that I decided when I was in college in Boston that I wanted to get involved with Planned Parenthood as a volunteer. I’ve been interning there for about a year now and the experience is incredible. I have been able to take a lot of my past experience with advocacy and use it towards issues that I care about a lot. Planned Parenthood is very unique as an organization because not only do they advocacy, but they actually work with patients on a day-to-day basis and I think that because we have that unique perspective on what the needs are of our patients, it’s so incredibly important for us to advocate for them and that’s what keeps us motivated and going with the work that we do and that’s why it’s so important for people to get involved. A lot of my generation, especially, hasn’t had to work for the rights that we have now, but there’s a huge backlash going on. The struggles that are happening on a state-by-state basis are incredibly frustrating. I just wish that politicians could have the chance that Planned Parenthood does and see the patients that we see everyday and the women that we work with everyday and work for and that might- hopefully- paint a picture as to like what they’re trying to take away from these women, it’s not just taking away their access to abortion it’s taking away a chance at a future for them.

"Planned Parenthood Arizona filed a lawsuit on Monday against a newly signed law that would prevent Medicaid patients in the state from choosing Planned Parenthood as their health provider because some of its clinics offer abortions. The Whole Woman's Health Funding Priority Act (HB 2800), signed by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) May 5, bans Planned Parenthood from seeking reimbursements for its low-income patients through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the state Medicaid program. Planned Parenthood's legal team is arguing that the bill violates federal Medicaid rules, which say that states cannot limit a Medicaid patient's ability to choose a family planning provider based on the scope of the other services that provider offers." Wanted to share the two experiences that I personally had with planned parenthood. My birth control was free because its currently free in the US. Again, check with your local center to see what insurances are accepted. This is a personal experience video, and please talk to a doctor before making a decision on birth control methods. What works for some people may not work for others. Do research! There are many types of birth control and it is usually trial and error with them (will have a video on the different types soon too!). But you have to take it every day, so use an alarm or app to help you remember. And the pill doesn't prevent the spread of STDs, so use condoms along with the pill to help protect yourself from both pregnancy and STDs. Like other medications, the pill has possible side effects, but they usually go away in the first few months. It has lots of benefits too. The pill can clear up acne, ease cramps, and make your periods lighter and more regular. Want to get on the pill? Your nearest Planned Parenthood health center can hook you up.

I called 3 offices in Southern California: Upland, Santa Ana and San Bernandino offices. Planned Parenthood says in their advertisements and previous speaches they provide prenatal care, which they do not. They offer abortions up tp 22.5 weeks which if you dont uave insurance, you can apply for either state medicaid/emergency MediCal... basically, it's temporary insurance for 30 days to cover the time during the abortion... Medi-Cal is government insurance that is ran by taxpayer money. Planned Parenthood says they dont use taxpayer money for abprtions, which in the video states otherwise.

Learn all about the pill and why you might want to consider this birth control option. Get more information at http://ppmns.org or by calling 1.800.230.PLAN. Transcript: Birth control pills are a really common method of birth control. When people think about birth control, they often first think about the pill. There are two different types—there's a kind that has both hormones progesterone and estrogen in it, and that's most commonly what people think of as the pill. And then there's a kind that just has progesterone in it—different women choose that pill for different reasons. Both of them are very effective. Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant every year taking the pill. It just does have to be taken every day at around the same time. Most women don't notice any real difference when they start the pill other than the shorter, lighter periods. Some women do experience some stomach upset or nausea when they first start it. Some women will experience irregular bleeding for the first month or two on the pill. Some women get some breast tenderness or kind of feel like they're getting their period when they first start on the pill. Usually by the first three months of being on the pill, everything is normal. The estrogens in the pills are the same, but the progesterones are all different and they can have different effects for people. Whether you have insurance or are concerned about the cost of care, you can see if you're eligible for any of the programs that help pay for birth control and preventative care visits at our website at ppmns.org.

Birth control pills, also known as the pill, are a form of oral contraception taken daily that contain hormones to help prevent pregnancy. Birth control pills keep a woman's body from releasing eggs -- ovulation. Birth control pills also thicken a women's cervical mucus to prevent pregnancy. The mucus blocks sperm and keeps it from joining with an egg. This form of contraception does not prevent against STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), so please use a condom in addition to the birth control pills if this is a concern for you and your partner. To learn more about birth control pills, contact your local Planned Parenthood health center at http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=birth-control-pills-as-a-form-of-birth-control or our website at http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/birth-control-pill-4228.htm?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=birth-control-pills ©2010 Planned Parenthood® Federation of America "BIRTH CONTROL PILLS" - PLANNED PARENTHOOD VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Are you looking for a birth control method with a long history of helping women prevent pregnancy. The pill is the most common form of reversible birth control in the United States. It's a safe, easy to take, daily medication that has been around for more than forty (40) years. Just one a day, and the pill has got you covered. Fewer than one (1) in one hundred (100) women will get pregnant each year if they take the pill everyday as directed. And if you occasionally miss a pill, your chance of getting pregnant is still pretty slim. Only about eight (8) out of one hundred (100) women who are on the pill but forget to take it every day will get pregnant in a year. Not bad. Not only is the pill great at preventing pregnancy, some women take it to make their periods lighter and easier to deal with. You can even use the pill to decide when or if you'll have a period. How does it work? Well, it's a hormonal contraceptive. That means it has hormones that prevent your body from releasing an egg. They also thicken the mucus of the cervix to make it harder for sperm to enter the uterus. The pill doesn't provide any protection against sexually transmitted infections. Use condoms if you're concerned about preventing STDs. Like other medications, the pill may have some side effects and it's only available with a prescription. If you're interested in learning about this method, check out the info on http://www.plannedparenthood.org/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=birth-control-pills. You can even find the nearest health center to set up an appointment.

A doctor inserts a little IUD into your uterus, and then you’re protected from pregnancy for years. IUDs are super convenient and mistake-proof: you get it and forget it. Your IUD can be removed any time you want, and your ability to get pregnant quickly returns. But IUDs don't prevent the spread of STDs, so use condoms along with the IUD to help protect yourself. There are a few kinds of IUDs. The ParaGard IUD is hormone-free — it uses copper to prevent pregnancy and lasts for up to 12 years. The copper IUD also works really well as emergency contraception — it can prevent pregnancy if inserted up to 5 days after unprotected sex. Hormonal IUDs like Mirena, Kyleena, Skyla and Liletta use a hormone called progestin to prevent pregnancy. They last 3-6 years, depending on which one you get. Doctor Washington is the Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, where she oversees 18 health centers. Her personal health care decisions, and having been a patient at Planned Parenthood, help her to be more compassionate with her patients, having been through it herself. "There’s a certain solidarity amongst patients when they see that I'm pregnant." This is her story of care. Transcript: Because we have 18 health centers — I rotate between a lot of the different health centers. I go where I'm needed. Obviously, I'm pregnant. I actually feel like there's a certain solidarity amongst patients when they see that I'm pregnant. Often patients will congratulate me or ask me if it's a girl or a boy. It's an acknowledgement that as women, we have these complicated choices. When I was a third year medical student, I was on birth control pills and I missed a pill - as so many women do and I had an unplanned pregnancy. I remember feeling like a ton of bricks had been dropped on my shoulders and wondering how am I going to get through this last year of medical school — it's one of the most challenging years — and then go on to be a mother. How am I going to achieve my career goals… and I went to Planned Parenthood to have my abortion. I do remember very vividly the doctor who took care of me and she was great and very compassionate. Having experienced an abortion allows me to be just a little bit more compassionate and a little bit more gentle. I can empathize with the patients a lot more having been through it myself.

Emily: "Hi, how can I help you?" Patient: "Hi, I'm here for my annual." Emily: "Ok, do you have an ID with you?" The Planned Parenthood clinic in Apple Valley is very warm and welcoming. We love our patients. We have patient privacy and confidentiality in mind at all times. The staff at Planned Parenthood are truly specialists in reproductive health care. Some of our nurse practitioners have upwards of 30 years of experience here. All of them go through specialized training about birth control methods, so they can definitely sit down with the patient and find something that's the best choice for them. Nurse: "Riley?" Patient: "Yep!" Nurse: "Come on back!" A lot of our patients come in having tried a lot of different methods, and they haven't been happy with them. So, they come in and our nurse practitioners really take the time to figure out what the best method for that person is—they know the upsides and the downsides of all these different types of methods, and some patients get put on a method that they didn't even know existed before they came to Planned Parenthood. "...a device that goes into your arm, and so this..." I think all of our patients would say that we're very nonjudgmental. We're here to listen to you; not judge you for why you're here, and I think we're very good at making our patients feel comfortable talking about birth control and other sexual health issues. At the Planned Parenthood in Apple Valley you can typically get an appointment within a day or two, and sometimes even same day appointments. To set up an appointment you can call, you can make an appointment online, of you can walk into the clinic and we'd be happy to set up an appointment for you. Planned Parenthood accepts insurance. We do have payment plans for patients as well, and we do provide low- and no-cost services to patients who qualify. We are committed to giving you the care that you need regardless of your ability to pay, and our staff is committed to giving men and women expert, quality, nonjudgmental care. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Over 540,000 people sent comments to the Department of Health and Human Services expressing their outrage that Trump and his cronies would attack access to birth control coverage. Planned Parenthood, online help, online access, sexual health, online STI screening, STD testing, birth control options, online consultation Description: 24-year-old Lummy virtually connects to a Planned Parenthood nurse practitioner in Seattle using her computer or cell phone. This is her story of care. Planned Parenthood Direct™ and Planned Parenthood Care™ are available through the iTunes Appstore and Google Play store. See how you can get quality health care, affordable birth control, and STD screenings when you want it, where you want it. Learn more and find out if Planned Parenthood Direct™ and Planned Parenthood Care™ are available in your area: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/get-care/online/video-visit#sthash.NCgrGj6c.dpuf Transcript: Nurse Practitioner Kelly: Hi Lummy. Lummy: Hi Kelly. Good to meet you. Nurse Practitioner Kelly: Good to meet you. Welcome to Planned Parenthood. I’m happy to see you today. Lummy: Thank you. Nurse Practitioner Kelly: How can I help you? Lummy: So I am really interested in the birth control options that Planned Parenthood offers. Growing up in Chinese culture, my family is pretty conservative. So we didn’t really have any discussions about sex or sexual health. Nurse Practitioner Kelly: I’ve had people ask me, “How do patients talk to you, and how do people talk to you? You’re not even in the same room with them.” And I think that’s a fair question. Sometimes being behind a camera, people have actually told me they feel a little bit safer, they feel like they can open up. Lummy: Another thing that I’m really excited about is just seeing all the great technological inventions and the amazing things that could facilitate interaction between us. I just thought that’s really, really neat. Nurse Practitioner Kelly: People can connect with us from outside any of our health centers — and they can connect on a cell phone, they can connect via any device. — and we talk to them about birth control methods, we talk about and do STI screening for chlamydia and gonorrhea. I feel like for most of the teenagers and maybe women and men in their 20s, they don’t get how impressive this is. It’s women who are maybe in their 30s or 40s that say, “Where was this 20 years ago?” Text: Planned Parenthood Direct™ and Planned Parenthood Care™ are now available through iTunes Appstore and Google Playstore.

Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion chain, committing over 320,000 abortions per year, 887 abortions per day. And yet every year, Planned Parenthood gets over half a billion of our taxpayer dollars from state and federal governments, which averages to over 1.5 million dollars per day. In an attempt to defend themselves, Planned Parenthood repeats over and over again their talking point that according to the Hyde Amendment, federal taxpayer dollars cannot pay for abortions in most cases. But keep in mind that the Hyde amendment only covers federal funding of abortion, not state funding of abortion. 17 states, covering about 40% of the American population , use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions through programs such as Medicaid. So a portion of Planned Parenthood’s half a billion in government revenue comes directly from state taxpayer funded abortions. But federal taxpayer dollars also pay for abortions. Under the federal program Title X, your federal taxpayer dollars directly pay for potentially abortion causing emergency contraception, such as Plan B and the Morning After Pill. Additionally, the Hyde amendment is insufficient to stop federal funding from paying for Planned Parenthood’s abortion business because money is fungible. The concept of fungibility works like this: Let’s say 16-year-old Stacy wants to buy a big screen TV that costs $1,000. Stacy has $1,000 but she needs to spend $500 to fix her car. Her Mom comes along and says, “I’ll give you $500 to fix the car, but it is ONLY for the car. No way am I giving you money to buy a TV! In fact, I’m only going to reimburse you after you pay to get the car fixed.” Obviously, because of Mom, Stacy now has enough money to fix her car and buy the TV. Fungibility means that even though Mom restricted her money from directly paying for the TV, she still helped Stacy pay for it by freeing up Stacy’s other money. The same is true for Planned Parenthood. They do things like abortions, birth control, STD testing and treatment, and marketing and lobbying. And they fund these operations with hundreds of millions of dollars in income and donations. So when the government comes along and gives Planned Parenthood hundreds of millions of our taxpayer dollars a year, even though it is technically restricted from, it frees up plenty of that income and donation money to pay for their abortion operations, including the procedures, facilities, staffing, building costs, and other abortion related overhead expenses. So, when taxpayer money does fund abortion facilitators, and does fund abortion facilities, how can anyone make the claim that federal taxpayer money does not fund abortions? Planned Parenthood says that defunding them will deprive many people from basic health care. But that’s completely up to Planned Parenthood. Understand, Planned Parenthood always has the option of keeping their half a billion dollars in taxpayer money—if they shut down their abortion business, but Planned Parenthood has refused this option. Even though Planned Parenthood says abortion is a small part of what they do, they give it such high priority that they are willing to stop giving other patients health care. This is why right now, there is a massive and increasing demand from the American people to defund Planned Parenthood. Getting a well-woman exam may make you a little nervous, but that's totally normal. It's an important and routine female check-up to make sure everything is okay with your body. So, what is included in a well-woman exam? You can expect to discuss your medical history, possibly have a pelvic exam and/or breast exam, and follow-up with any questions, tests, etc. Remember, your information is entirely confidential. If you have questions or concerns, Planned Parenthood is here to help. To learn more about well-woman exams, visit: http://p.ppfa.org/18u4F1r To make an appointment at your local Planned Parenthood Health Center, call 1-800-230-PLAN or visit: http://p.ppfa.org/ZI8n0O ©2013 Planned Parenthood® Federation of America "WHAT IS A WELL-WOMAN VISIT? - PLANNED PARENTHOOD" - VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: NARRATOR: When was the last time you went to see a doctor or nurse, not because you were sick, but just to make sure everything's okay? It's what's called a well-woman visit. Many people feel a little nervous or scared about them. That's totally normal. First, call a health center to make an appointment. Tell us if you have insurance or need help paying for the visit and we'll estimate the cost so you don't have any surprises. Once you've arrived, you'll fill out some paperwork. If you need help, please ask us. Next, a medical assistant will ask you a few questions about your health, your family's health, and your sex life. Don't worry, it's 100% confidential and we only ask because it helps us know what you need. Tell her if you want more information about birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, or anything else. You can ask us any question you might have-- nothing is off-limits. After that, we'll give you some privacy to change into a gown. Now you might feel uncomfortable about being partially naked, but that's completely normal. We are here to help you. And if there's anything that you're worried about, let us know and we can talk more about it. We want to answer your questions. What'll happen next will depend on your age, medical history, and when you last saw a doctor or nurse. If you need a breast exam, the doctor or nurse will ask you to lower your gown so she can check your breasts while you are sitting up and then lying down. It won't hurt. If you need a pelvic exam, she'll ask you to lie back on the table and will guide your feet into the foot rests. This position may feel weird, but it will make the exam more comfortable for you. If you feel nervous or tense, try taking a few deep breaths or imagine yourself somewhere peaceful and relaxing. During the exam, we'll tell you exactly what we're doing. The exam should not hurt, but if you want to stop, just let us know. You are in control. And the whole thing takes just a few minutes. After the exam, we will talk to you about any questions you might have, any more tests or exams you might need, and when you should come back. And remember, your information is completely private. We won't share it with anyone - , NOT your partners, your friends, or even your parents. Well-woman visits are important. It's how we work together to keep you healthy. No matter what, we're here for you. You are always welcome at Planned Parenthood.
