Hence China is investing heavily in all aspects of information technology, from quantum computing to chip design. Multiple initiatives have also been launched, including China building the $2.1 billion AI Technology Park in Beijing’s western suburbs. Compare this with America’s total spending on unclassified AI programs in 2016 of $1.2 billion. Though specifics of China’s AI-powered arms remain secret, they include autonomous tanks and other land vehicles, submarines and surface warships, as well as aircraft including bombers, fighters and drones. In May, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the government’s seriousness on developing AI applications for defense forces and said this could be effective in aerial, land-based and naval platforms for multiple tasks including guarding borders, cyber, securing outer space, and monitoring chemical and nuclear environment. The AI Task Force submitted its final report to government in July, recommending policy and institutional interventions that are required to regulate and encourage robust AI-based technologies for the defense sector, and, considering that most AI work is happening in the private sector, work with startups and the commercial industry to field AI applications in defense. On March 29, 2018 a chapter of Indian Navy’s flying prowess as part of its aviation arm, took a farewell bow as eight Tu-142MR (Tuploev) planes of the Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 312 were decommissioned after proudly serving the Indian Navy for 29 long years. A poignant ceremonial fly past was held at INS Rajali, India’s premiere Naval Air Station in Arakkonam, as Tu-142s made their last flights. At the expense of repetition, it needs reiteration that submarines form a vital part in the inventory of any large Navy’s three-dimensional ‘Order of Battle’ (ORBAT).A conventional diesel powered submarine has less visibility in peace, because it is essentially a vehicle for war constantly working up when not in refit or self maintenance period (SMP), and executing arduous ‘war patrols’ fully armed with lethal torpedoes and missiles loaded in congested spaces with long periods under water.

Lockheed Martin’s Greenville facility gears up for major projects in 2018 Since 1984, Lockheed Martin, a Maryland-based aerospace and defense company, has provided modification, maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for both military and civil aircraft from its 16-hangar facility at the S.C. Technology and Aviation Center in southern Greenville County. Now the company’s local operation is gearing up for another busy year. Lockheed has been awarded a $7.6 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to perform “supply chain management, repair, and technical support services” on two C-5M Super Galaxies. The project will be managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, but some of the work will be performed at Lockheed’s Greenville facility. Leslie Farmer, a spokesperson for Lockheed’s Greenville operations, said crews would spend several months installing upgraded communication and navigation systems in the two aircraft. The work is expected to last through July. It won’t, however, create any jobs. “The support contracts we receive for the C-5 don’t have a tremendous impact on our bottom line, but they keep our workforce stable and showcase our capabilities with large aircraft,” said Don Erickson, site director for Lockheed’s Greenville operations. Refurbished recently with more powerful engines and enhanced cockpit computers, the C-5Ms are the only U.S. transport planes that can make a nonstop transcontinental flight while carrying military cargo and personnel. The Air Force currently operates 52 C-5Ms, which are stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and Travis Air Force Base in California. Erickson said the upcoming work at Lockheed’s facility in Greenville is part of the Air Force’s plan to bring eight C-5Ms out of retirement. In 2015, senior officials grounded the planes and placed them in the service’s “backup inventory” to save $60 million in operating costs. But now they want to return the aircraft to active duty by the end of 2021. “We’re going to buy back two a year for four years, if we’re able to have a predictable budget to get the fleet back to a higher quality,” Lt. Gen. Jerry Harris, the Air Force deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and requirements, told the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces subcommittee during a Congressional hearing in May 2017. The Air Force’s budget for 2018 includes a combination of transportation working capital funds and operations and maintenance funds to upgrade two C-5Ms, according to a news release from the Department of Defense. When modifications to the aircraft are complete, Lockheed’s pilots in Greenville will perform check flights and deliver them to Travis Air Force Base. Erickson said Lockheed’s facility in Greenville would likely conduct future contract work on the remaining C-5Ms. “Our crews have proven themselves to the Air Force time and time again. Military equipment or PHILIPPINES LOOKS TO GREATLY EXPAND AIRPOWER CAPABILITIES As part of Flight Plan 2028, the Philippine Air Force is looking to expand its airpower capabilities through the acquisition of another 36 Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) FA-50 Golden Eagle lightweight fighters to add to its existing force of 12 aircraft (IHS Jane’s). Speaking to IHS Jane’s, a Philippine Air Force official described the additional FA-50 purchase as a means to build the force’s capacity to mitigate threats along its exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Philippines will also examine its multi-role fighter options; a requirement Saab is hopeful to secure with its Gripen. At this stage, the notion of another 36 KAI FA-50s is interesting. As noted in an earlier article on Quwa, the FA-50 is essentially a lightweight fighter, one comparable to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Tejas, Saab JAS-39C/D Gripen, and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and CATIC JF-17 Thunder. This may sound a bit disingenuous if taken in light of the KAI T-50 Golden Eagle, the lead-in fighter trainer (LIFT) derivative of the FA-50, but one need only examine the platform’s subsystems and physical parameters. The Golden Eagle platform is powered by the General Electric F404 turbofan, which is also utilized by the Tejas and Gripen C/D. The FA-50’s payload comes in at 3,700 kg distributed across seven hardpoints, which is markedly close to the JF-17’s payload and weapons carriage capacity. Its onboard sensor suite is built on the Elta Systems EL/M-2032 mechanically-steered pulse-Doppler radar, which is also found on the HAL Tejas. A fully functional electronic warfare (EW) and electronic countermeasures (ECM) suite as well as tactical data-link (TDL) system basically renders the FA-50 as a fully capable fighter solution. There are several key aspects to consider: First, the Philippines’ plan to build-up its air defence capabilities through the FA-50. A fleet of close to 50 such lightweight fighters is a credible force in own right, though the actual impact, especially on the region’s defence and security dynamics, can best be measured by the air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions the Philippines pursues and secures for its FA-50s. Fortunately for Manilla, the potential scope may be relatively wide considering that Israel, a major vendor of modern EW and ECM equipment, sensors, and a wide range of munitions, is seeking to expand its defence ties with the Philippines. The provision of the Elbit Display and Sight Helmet System (DASH), the Rafael Python 5 high off-boresight (HOBS) AAM, Derby BVRAAM, and SPICE precision-guided bomb (PGB) kit would certainly be welcome additions to the Philippine Air Force inventory. Second, the defence industry environment in the Philippines is beginning to take a certain shape. Seeing Manilla fully commit to the FA-50 platform, it is clear that KAI will maintain a very strong footprint in the country. Inversely, the Philippines could leverage its comparatively lucrative fighter requirement to call for commercial offsets and some measure of technology transfer, which could support the Government Arsenal Defense Industrial Estate (GADIE) initiative, which aims to nurture a defence industry base in the Philippines. KAI’s willingness to engage in such activities (which is plausible considering its partnership to co-develop its next-generation fighter with Indonesia’s PTDI) will confer the company a strong client-user relationship in the country, which could have an impact on the Philippines’ future acquisitions. Saab’s decision to open a marketing office in Manilla is a major move in terms of indicating its seriousness to sell the JAS-39 Gripen to the Philippines. However, from a cost standpoint, the Philippines should be able to build-out a credible and – at worst, marginally inferior – solution through FA-50s configured with Israeli air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions. While the Philippines Air Force stated that the multi-role fighter is a long-term factor, it should be noted that the capability delta likely expected from this platform is also substantively higher than that of the FA-50. It would be surprising if the Philippine Air Force does not contemplate the procurement of a medium-weight platform for its multi-role fighter requirement. In this respect, Saab’s JAS-39E/F would be a very compelling solution. However, KAI’s current opportunity to build a very strong client-vendor relationship in the Philippines could generate competition for the Gripen Next Generation (NG), namely from KAI’s next-generation fighter platform, the KFX. Aggregate expenditure, AE, is total spending in the economy: the sum of consumption, planned investment, government purchases, and net exports. The aggregate expenditure model is a macroeconomic model that focuses on the short-run relationship between total spending and real GDP, assuming that the price level is constant. The key idea of the model is that in any particular year, the level of GDP is determined mainly by the level of aggregate expenditure. In 1936, John Maynard Keynes published The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money, a book that analyzed the relationship between changes in aggregate expenditure and changes in GDP. For the economy as a whole, macroeconomic equilibrium occurs where aggregate expenditure equals total production, or GDP. Keep your attention focused on the difference between GDP and AE, because the measurement is different only in respect to Actual Investment, in GDP, versus Planned Investment in AE. We focus on Planned Investments in the economy as it relates to the Business Cycle, periods of expansion, and contraction.

As you know Amazon is a renowned online shopping store. Only in the United States, Amazon has recently made an experiment of a robot for sending parcels in the USA, naming Amazon Drone. It is a robot that has been designed by Amazon to send parcels. The credit goes to the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. He says that its implementation may take a few years because an advanced technology has been used in this shipping drone. Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S prevented Amazon to launch this drone in the USA, so Amazon selected an international location for making an experiment. There are a few technical and legal problems at its launch as well, i.e. Air Traffic Safety is in danger. Homeland Security and Privacy may affect. Accidents can occur. The delivery is impossible in the No Fly Zone like Washington DC. Overnight delivery is not good. The FAA plans to devise a set of rules about Amazon Drone next year. It can allow Amazon for a 55 pounds package delivery through a drone. It is no doubt a great advancement in the eCommerce field.
