Alprazolam is a common benzodiazepine in medical settings that is also taken for recreational purposes. It's normally used for anxiety and panic disorder, though it has antidepressant properties. The drug's recreational effects include anxiolysis, disinhibition, and euphoria. It was the top benzodiazepine in the US within a few years of its introduction. The substance has remained one of the most common psychoactive medicines. Clonazolam is a research chemical (RC) benzodiazepine. Though it was synthesized in the 1970s, it was never brought to market and it has only been used as an RC since the mid-2000s. It's a very potent substance, surpassing most benzodiazepines. Due to its potency and strength, it's often been associated with amnesia and unconsciousness. Those risks exist with all drugs in the class, but the way people use clonazolam makes it more likely they'll encounter a problem. Many of the issues with the drug can be blamed on inappropriate dosing. Users believe the common dose is higher than it is and vendors sell products that are too strong. If you stick to a true light/common dose, most of the major concerns won't apply. Benzodiazepines are commonly used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep disorders. They are thought to exert their effects in the brain by acting at receptors for the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. In this video, I cover the the mechanism of action for benzodiazepines. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to 2 minute neuroscience, where I explain neuroscience topics in 2 minutes or less. In this installment I will discuss benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are a class of drugs named for their chemical structure that are commonly used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep-related disorders. They include well-known drugs like valium, xanax, and klonopin. There are dozens of drugs in the benzodiazepine class, but the mechanism by which they all exert their effects is thought to be similar. The sedating and anxiety-reducing effects of benzodiazepines are believed to be attributable to the drugs’ actions at receptors for the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyic acid, or GABA. In particular, benzodiazepines act at a subtype of GABA receptors called the GABAa receptor; GABAa receptors that also bind benzodiazepines are sometimes called benzodiazepine receptors. When benzodiazepines bind, or attach, to the GABA receptor, they bind at a location separate from where GABA itself binds, and exert an influence over GABA binding. This type of action is called an allosteric effect, and in the case of benzodiazepines it results in increased action at the GABA receptor. There is not complete consensus on exactly how benzodiazepine binding affects activity at the GABA receptor but there is evidence to suggest that it increases the likelihood that GABA binding will activate the receptor and/or increases the effect that GABA has when it binds to the receptor. That effect is to open an ion channel and allow the passage of negatively charged chloride ions into the neuron. This influx of negatively charged ions pushes the membrane potential further from zero, or hyperpolarizes it, and makes it less likely the neuron will fire an action potential. This type of neural inhibition is the basis for the effects of benzodiazepines, for by inhibiting the activity of neurons that make up networks involved with anxiety and arousal, the drugs are able to produce calming effects. Support us on Patreon and get FREE downloads and other great rewards: patreon.com/AlilaMedicalMedia Gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA, is the primary INHIBITORY neurotransmitter in the mature brain. It REDUCES neuronal activity of target cells through its binding to GABA receptors present on the cell surface. Nearly half of all synapses of the brain express some kind of GABA receptor and are thus responsive to GABA. There are at least 3 types of GABA receptors: GABA-A, GABA-B and GABA-C. GABA-A and GABA-C are ligand-gated chloride channels. Upon transmitter binding, they open and allow chloride ions to flow into the neuron, making it more NEGATIVE, or HYPER-polarized, and thus LESS likely to generate action potentials. GABA-B acts through a G-protein to activate potassium channels, which allow positively-charged potassium to flow OUT of the cell, again resulting in membrane HYPER-polarization and a subsequent decrease in neuron responsiveness. GABA is believed to play a major role in controlling neuronal hyperactivity associated with fear, anxiety and convulsions. GABA-A receptor is composed of 5 protein subunits. In addition to binding sites for GABA, it has allosteric binding sites for other substances known as GABA modulators. These are molecules that can INCREASE or DECREASE the action of GABA, but have no effect in the absence of GABA. For example, benzodiazepines, a class of drugs used to treat anxiety, bind to GABA-A receptor and facilitate its binding to GABA, thus potentiating GABA inhibitory effect. Other positive modulators include barbiturates, alcohol, propofol, among others. Examples of negative modulators are convulsants, such as Flumazenil. Flumazenil reverses the effects of benzodiazepines by competing with them at the same binding site on GABA-A. September 25, 2017 I am putting this on both channels. Daughter and Heir and TamsTwoCents. If anyone wants to comment, I ask that the comments go on the TamsTwoCents so that the move there is easier for me. A couple things I should have mentioned in yesterday's video, but I forgot to mention it in this video: I had very serious chest pains the other night and did not take my nitroglycerin that my cardiologist gave to me because how I'm figuring things is if I'm going to die, I'm going to die. If it's my time, it's my time. My surgeon is going to be signing my DNR papers for the house on the 2nd of October. Also, I am not suicidal or anything like that, however I don't want to suffer any longer. So, if I die at the hands of this current who is taking away my medication, my friends and Disability Advocate know his name and contact information to hold him accountable for what I'm going through. A couple of them specifically asked for pertinent information in case I do die. Also, the disability Advocate was here today and spent about an hour with me and I gave her all of the paperwork including letters like from my mother to the doctor, the therapist to the doctor, Etc. That went to this doctor who is tapering me so fast. I will go to be with the Lord while he will have to stand to give an answer to what he has done. Now, my hope is that he would repent and do the right thing, but if that doesn't happen, then there's nothing I can do about it. Also what I didn't mention is about my weight. I had said in this video that I am losing weight. This happened in 2010, also. I went from over 200 lb to just about 100 lb in such a short time that even my menstrual cycle completely stopped. My body started shutting down and it's just horrible. I watched the video over and thought... People are going to think ... wow well you're fat anyway! It's time to lose some weight! Yes, I realize I am fat. I am considered obese. And that is partly to do with this medication and partly to do with the hydrocortisone I have to be on because of the Addison's disease. Prior to all of this, I was a very thin woman and I mean so thin that I couldn't even gain weight. My metabolism was fantastic! It was very difficult for me to gain weight... So much of this has to do with the medication. If anyone would like to judge me, that's between you and God. As far as I'm concerned, I am totally fine with who I am and how I am. The problem with losing weight on benzodiazepine withdrawal is that it is messing with the endocrine system so much that it is a rapid loss of weight which is dangerous. Also, a person doesn't want to lose weight because of their suffering. They want to lose weight and should want to lose weight because that's what they want to do. Not because someone tells them to nor because of a withdrawal of a medication which is so very dangerous. I'm going to make it so that there are no comments on the Daughter and Heir Channel. So go ahead and move over to the TamsTwoCents if you would like to make a comment. I appreciate you all! Tam XO

You may have heard Xanax is a good drug to use for anxiety and other disorders. That much is true. However, most doctors will not readily hand out prescriptions for this drug because it does come with some problems. Therefore, you will need to convince your doctor that you actually need the drug, mainly by showing that you have an anxiety disorder. ---------------------------------------------------- Image Attributions------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-1-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/c/c0/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-1-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:35, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-2-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/a/a4/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-2-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:35, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-3-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/c/c8/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-3-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:35, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-4-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/6/62/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-4-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:36, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-5-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/6/6b/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-5-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:36, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Image: Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-6-Version-3 | By:Wikivisual0 - Link:https://www.wikihow.com/images/7/72/Get-Prescribed-Xanax-Step-6-Version-3.jpg - licensed by Creative Commons - cc-by-sa-nc-3.0-self ---- https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ -Last updated:21:36, 9 December 2016 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Website---------------------------------https://www.wikihow.com------------------- ---------------------------------------------- -------------------------References--------------------- ---http://www.clinicaladvisor.com/features/separating-anxiety-from-physical-illness/article/117767/ ---http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/anxiety-disorders/index.shtml ---http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/anxiety-disorders/index.shtml ---http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/anxiety-disorders/index.shtml ---http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/anxiety-disorders/index.shtml ---http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/anxiety/basics/symptoms/con-20026282 ---http://www.helpguide.org/articles/anxiety/anxiety-attacks-and-anxiety-disorders.htm ---http://www.helpguide.org/articles/anxiety/anxiety-attacks-and-anxiety-disorders.htm ---http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/anxiety/basics/treatment/con-20026282 ---http://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/alprazolam-oral-route/description/drg-20061040 ---http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0008896/ ---http://www.clinicaladvisor.com/features/separating-anxiety-from-physical-illness/article/117767/ ---https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/fighting-fear/201206/the-use-the-minor-tranquilizers-xanax-ativan-klonopin-and-valium ---http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a684001.html ---http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/14/us/in-louisville-a-centers-doctors-cut-off-xanax-prescriptions.html?_r=1&.emc=eta1 ---http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a684001.html

Healing From Psychiatry: The Artist's Perspective Video by Alison Zielin Page and Christopher Zielin Page // Editing by Ally Nugent Music: The Avalanche by Sufjan Stevens Website: http://alisonzpage.wix.com/recoveryartbook Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/healingfrompsychiatry/?fref=ts GoFundMe Page: https://www.gofundme.com/recoveryartbook Update: The book is finally here!! I will be shipping out to people who donated $25 or more over the next several weeks. If you would like to purchase a copy, you can visit the book's website. Feel free to share this link with family and friends. http://alisonzpage.wix.com/recoveryartbook The book came out beautifully, and I've received really positive responses so far. I am hoping that this book will inform people about the potential dangers of psychiatric drugs and treatments and for those already affected, that this book will bring you hope and help your family understand. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the book, donated, and supported this project. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What is this Book About? Healing from Psychiatry: The Artist's Perspective is a compilation art book featuring the art and personal stories of 60 people from around the world. Each contributor was harmed by the institution of psychiatry in some way, whether by psychiatric medications, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), forced inpatient stays, or harmful and restrictive diagnostic labels. There is currently no medical support for people who end up harmed by psychiatric treatments. Many who are harmed end up receiving no acknowledgement from their doctors, friends, or families, and many are disabled by these treatments and without support. It is imperative that we raise awareness about this population of people so they can receive support while they heal. My hope is that this book will help raise awareness, even if only in a very small way, and that this book will be a useful tool for people currently going through recovery from psychiatric drugs and treatment. This book touches upon the struggle of recovering from psychiatry, but highlights the strength, creativitiy, and perseverence the journey can evoke. It also highlights many stories of people who have walked the path to recovery and come out the other side. Why Did I Compile this Book? I had a severe and disabling reaction to a drug called lorazapem (generic Ativan), a benzodiazepine, which was prescribed by my doctor during a time of stress and anxiety. In early recovery, my life became very small. I wasn't able to do many things that I once took for granted. Reading a book was one of them- Since my cognition and ability to concentrate suffered, reading novels became impossible. But, I could still appreciate art and read in short bursts. Having a book of art made by others on the same path would have been a comforting, distracting, and useful resource. Highlights of the Book This book features short essays, poems, paintings, photographs, mixed media, and more. Each contributor used art as a method to distract from and heal from the harm and injury caused by psychiatric treatment and/or psychiatric medications. You will see the art and hear the personal stories of the contributors, and hopefully, begin to re-examine our culture's tendency to go for the quick fix of medications and aggressive medical treatments. This book shows the true strength of the human spirit and the ability to use art and creativity as a healing force. The book has been endorsed by Doctor Heather Ashton, Robert Whitaker, Matt Samet, and Baylissa Frederick. Foreword by Doctor Heather Ashton, Matt Samet, and Patty Hicks. Conclusion by Laura Delano.

Dr. C. Heather Ashton is the leading expert on benzodiazepines and benzodiazepine withdrawal. In this clip, Dr. Ashton discusses her method of tapering off benzodiazepines. To order the DVD, visit PMAG's website: http://www.psychmedaware.org Dr. Ashton, DR, FRCP, is an Emeritus Professor of Clinical Psycho-pharmacology at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Dr. Ashton is an expert researcher and clinician in the area of addictive psychotropic drugs. She was the director of a benzodiazepine withdrawal clinic for 12 years and has developed the "gold standard" protocol for withdrawal from benzodiazepines and sleeping pills. She has written over 250 academic papers in professional journals and books, and is a frequent international lecturer on benzodiazepines and sleeping pills. For many years she has taught medical and pharmacology students, physicians, nurses and other health care workers about benzodiazepines and their effects, including the clinical management of withdrawal. In March and April 2006, Dr. Ashton gave lectures on Benzodiazepine Dependence and Withdrawal Methods to heath care providers in Victoria and Vancouver, B.C. She also addressed physicians at an addictions conference at Parksville, B.C. The Psychiatric Medication Awareness Group (PMAG) produced a 90-minute DVD of Dr. Ashton's April 4, 2006, Vancouver lecture. Dr. Ashton spoke on: * how benzodiazepines and hypnotics (i.e., tranquillizers and sleeping pills) affect the brain and body * symptoms of dependence * the personal/social costs of benzodiazepine dependence * benzodiazepine use and other substances such as street drugs * withdrawal * effective tapering plans * outcomes and longer-term symptoms * best practices The DVD is a useful educational tool for benzodiazepine users, those withdrawing from benzodiazepines, physicians and other health care professionals, and non-profit organizations. It provides an excellent overview of Dr. Ashton's protocol, expertise and wisdom. Read Dennis' full interview below: "Hi, this is Dennis Hansen with New Beginnings Recovery Center. Today the topic is benzodiazepine dependency and coming off of benzodiazepines. And I have Joy, our Director of Nursing at our clinics and she’s got a couple of questions. Joy? Joy: Good afternoon Dennis. Why did my doctor prescribe me such an addictive drug? Very good question. Joy asked why her doctor prescribed this. Benzodiazepines are used primarily as a depressant; they are used to control anxiety, they are used to control panic disorder, and some of them are used for sleep. Depending on the market aim, each one of these drugs are designed a little bit different, they’re all basically the same exact drug. The problem lies in the fact that this is a drug that was meant to be used for about two weeks and if you look at the manufacturer’s label, you will see that this drug, in fact is designed for that brief period. The problem is that most doctors continue to prescribe this medication for a number of different reasons. One is, it’s self-serving: as long as you are coming back for this medication, you are paying for office visits, and the other reason is they work tremendously for anxiety. There is no other class of drugs that exists that manages anxiety, that handles panic disorder and makes you sleep quite as good as benzodiazepines. The problem is these drugs have a diminished effect. Basically, that means that over the course of time, they lose their effectiveness. Now to achieve the same result, one would add additional benzodiazepines. So, over the course of time doctors will increase dosages to achieve the same result and the problem with that is that you can never get the initial effect that you had in the beginning and ultimately patients are left in a state of anxiety that cannot be curbed regardless of how much benzodiazepine is taken. So patients end up being dependent on this drug. So it becomes difficult to come off of this drug. Joy: Thank you. I’ve been on Xanax and Clonazepam for ten years. I’ve been switched, lowered, and raised. Can I ever get well? That’s a good question. Many of the patients that we treat in our clinics have a similar situation, where they have tried every conceivable method to try and come off of this class of drug and have failed and ultimately, end up with damaged receptor sites, extreme tolerance withdrawal and guilt, shame and some severe physical effects ranging from staying in a chronic state of seizure risk, to insomnia, tremendous anxiety, we see patients come in that have numbness, ringing in their ears, hallucinations; on our website we list about 150 tolerance withdrawal symptoms. Those that have suffered with a benzodiazepine class of drugs can relate to just how horrible this can be. Modern medicine today doesn’t offer any easy ways to come off of this drug. So the prospect of coming off is very good if you use the Ashton protocol which is the method that we use. Essentially, we migrate whichever benzo you happen to be on, we will migrate it to a longer-acting benzodiazepine and there’s a couple of options we can use but we use the longer lasting drug and stabilize the level of blood concentration of benzodiazepine and titrate upward until the patients symptoms dissipate, and once they’ve dissipated, we can do a gradual downward taper, and the patients will ultimately get better as the brain heals along the way. Almost universally, this solution works. There are very few doctors that are willing to do this, but we are. So if you’re interested in talking about this solution for you and you’re struggling with this, you’ll have a compassionate ear with myself and our staff. We are more than willing to take the time that is necessary to talk about your particular set of symptoms that you are struggling with. You can contact our office at 561-790-4177 and further information can be had at newbeginningsdetox.com. If you email us, at email@example.com and explain your situation, we will be happy to respond. On our benzodiazepine webpage, there is a link that you can click to fill out some particular information and we can do an assessment by email at no cost to you and see if this is the right level of care for you. This is an outpatient clinic and we have patients that fly into our clinic from around the world because we offer a solution that works. Final word is this is not a quick solution, but it is a sure solution. So thanks for your time and have a good day." It doesn't have to be this way! September 24, 2017 Hi friends, I am much too sick to type out much at all. It's all in the video. Actually, I'll just type it with my voice. I don't know what to do because I don't have enough medication to titrate down properly. This right here what you see is exactly what my doctor has ordered for me. To go from from 4mg of Klonopin in 1 month to 3 mg the next month and then to 2mg the next month. It is much too fast and I will not be able to make it through this. He pretty much just laughed at me when I gave him the paperwork from Doctor Heather Ashton. I only gave him like 4 pages which was basic information on how to withdraw a person safely so that they do not die. And the dangers of doing it too fast, etc. Not the entire manual. He first told me he would not read it and that it is his decision to do this to me. Then I asked once the appointment was over if he would please come up please read what I gave him. He said in front of the social worker that he would read. Would appreciate prayers and any advice about how to get a doctor to get me stabilized back at the 4 mg where I was doing just fine. Thank you, Tam XO

October 11th, 2017 I did this video yesterday, so October 10th, 2017. I had to increase my 3mg to 3.25 mg because I couldn't handle the sudden drop of 1 mg as you can see in my last video which is Vid 5 and shows me shaking really bad. If you look at Vid 5, you'll see the tapering schedule and dates in the description box. Adding to that, is that I went up to 3.25 mg to stabilize on October 1, 2017. So, by the time I made this video, I had done that .25 mg increase for 10 days. I believe tomorrow I may try 3 mg to see how that goes because and just a couple of weeks my doctor will drop me all the way down to 2mg. So, I'm trying to prepare my body. Thank you all who are praying for me and asking Christ to intervene. Love, Tam xo

My new family doctor at the time had begun to give me a quick and fast taper schedule off of the anxiety med clonazepam/klonopin. Problem is, you aren't supposed to taper straight from it anyways. You are supposed to integrate over to the only safe benzo class drug in america, to taper from - diazepam/valium. I was also tapering too large amount and too fast (doctor's recommendation, which backfired and I had to deal with the consequences). Lookup benzo long term effects and withdrawal symptoms for reference. My brain went on overload b/c too much of the med was being taken away (let alone not being switched over to the proper taper med), and I almost went crazy and when I was in the emergency room, I started calling out for help uncontrollably and felt like my brain was going to explode and that I was going to have a major chemical reaction and just snap and do something psychotic. Before I even made it to the ER, my brain was both sped up too fast, and I was having symptoms that were slowing me down at the same time, literally freezing me. I couldn't even do something as simple as putting a sock on. Much more explained in vid. As of Late July 2012, I am now on the correct med and since switching to it, have managed two taper downs with way less side effects, just like it's supposed to work.

September 19, 2017 Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to follow this journey to see what is happening as I taper down or contact an attorney about medical malpractice. I am not a doctor and cannot take responsibility for anyone watching my videos about my own hell with benzodiazepines. Please seek medical help if you find that you need it. This is my story, not meant to be advice for others. I decided to start a new channel dedicated just for this topic of benzodiazepines, benzodiazepine use, benzodiazepine withdrawal, what doctors know and don't know about benzodiazepines, the differences between Ativan, Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Psychiatry, psychology, etc. I have studied benzodiazepines for many years as I have been on them for 24 years now. Yes, ridiculous, isn't it? But, because I am at the mercy of doctors now that my body is completely addicted to this medication, it is not right for doctors to want to again try to taper me down when I am completely stable on it and take it properly. I am very ill with cancer biopsies that have just happened and are going to happen. I do not need the stress of coming off of Klonopin like my current doctor is ordering. He wants me to go down by 2 mg in two months time! If anyone knows anything about benzodiazepines, you know that is basically a death wish. He knows this because we discussed it. Twice. Once in front of a worker who is like my social worker or disability advocate type person. I show in the video the pictures of me when I was dying in 2010 the last time this happened to me. I don't have the strength to deal with court and whatnot, and this is only the fourth day I've been able to sit up after a surgery, so when you see me looking well like in this video, that I am almost fully bedridden, and if my makeup and hair is done, it's because it took me a very, very long time to be able to do it. My other Channel shows me very unwell if anyone has questions about my illnesses. I have Addison's disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, my liver is now at 20.7 CM, I have a large cystic and solid nodule in my thyroid and had a fine needle aspiration done on it with the findings of possible cancer, but I have not yet been able to have it removed. I also have degenerative disc disease in my neck, arthritis in my spine and osteoarthritis in my knees. I'm supposed to be getting shots in my neck, back, and knees, but I can't even make it to the pain clinic for that. Somehow, I'm going to have to get a ride there and have it done, though. The pain is excruciating at times. I have bilateral weakness in my legs, left arm weakness, and I'm supposed to go for another cancer biopsy soon. Along with all of that, I am to get an EMG done for the neurologist, and they are looking at possible small bowel carcinoid cancer or pancreatic carcinoid cancer because one of my test results came back positive for it. This is not the time to taper off someone who is very ill off of a benzodiazepine. You'll see the pictures in the video. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. And thank you to those who subscribe. God's peace.

Hey everyone, my book is now available on Amazon. Uses therapeutic techniques to address withdrawal, and covers every topic you could ask for on the process of benzo recovery: http://a.co/d/glhaocZ :::WEAR HEADPHONES::: My first attempt at an ASMR benzodiazepine recovery sleep aid. I'm still learning the process, bare with me, please. If you're not familiar with ASMR then this video is likely to seem a little strange at first. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a term used for an experience characterised by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. ASMR has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia. ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin". It is most commonly triggered by specific acoustic or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control. In short, ASMR could be used to enhance positive feelings, strengthen positive psychosomatic connection, promote positive thinking/perception, and increase sleep for individuals in benzo recovery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :::NEW::: I will be releasing a book soon on my method of recovery, called 'The Powers Manual: A Guide to Benzo Recovery.' http://www.PanicAttacksCure.org Panic disorder is different from the normal fear and anxiety reactions to stressful events in our lives. Panic disorder is a serious condition that strikes without reason or warning. Symptoms of panic disorder include sudden attacks of fear and nervousness, as well as physical symptoms such as sweating and a racing heart. During a panic attack, the fear response is out of proportion for the situation, which often is not threatening. Over time, a person with panic disorder develops a constant fear of having another panic attack, which can affect daily functioning and general quality of life. Panic disorder often occurs along with other serious conditions, such as depression, alcoholism, or drug abuse. What Are the Symptoms of Panic Disorder? Symptoms of a panic attack, which often last about 10 minutes, include: Difficulty breathing. Pounding heart or chest pain. Intense feeling of dread.Sensation of choking or smothering. Dizziness or feeling faint. Trembling or shaking. Sweating. Nausea or stomachache. Tingling or numbness in the fingers and toes. Chills or hot flashes. A fear that you are losing control or are about to die. Beyond the panic attacks themselves, a key symptom of panic disorder is the persistent fear of having future panic attacks. What Causes Panic Disorder? Although the exact cause of panic disorder is not fully understood, studies have shown that a combination of factors, including biological and environmental, may be involved. Abnormalities in the brain. Substance abuse. Abuse of drugs and alcohol can contribute to panic disorder. Major life stress. Stressful events and major life transitions, such as the death of a loved one, can trigger panic disorder. Panic disorder most often begins during late adolescence and early adulthood. It is twice as common in women as in men.How Is Panic Disorder Diagnosed? If symptoms of panic disorder are present, the doctor will begin an evaluation by performing a complete medical history and physical exam. Although there are no lab tests to specifically diagnose panic disorder, the doctor may use various tests to look for physical illness as the cause of symptoms. If no physical illness is found, you may be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist, mental health professionals who are specially trained to diagnose and treat mental illnesses. Psychiatrists and psychologists use specially designed interview and assessment tools to evaluate a person for panic disorder. The doctor bases his or her diagnosis on reported intensity and duration of symptoms, including the frequency of panic attacks, and the doctor's observation of the patient's attitude and behavior. The doctor then determines if the symptoms and degree of dysfunction suggest panic disorder. A combination of the following therapies is often used to treat panic disorder. Psychotherapy (a type of counseling) addresses the emotional response to mental illness. It is a process in which trained mental health professionals help people by talking through strategies for understanding and dealing with their disorder. Therapy that helps a person learn to recognize and change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to troublesome feelings. Therapy also aims to identify possibly triggers for panic attacks. Medication . The anti-depressant drugs Paxil and Zoloft and anti-anxiety medications such as Xanax, Ativan, or Klonopin are used to treat panic disorders. Sometimes, heart medications (such as beta blockers) are used to help with anxiety. Relaxation techniques. When panic attacks continue after treatment has stopped, additional treatment may still help control and reduce panic attacks. In addition, relaxation techniques, such as breathing retraining and positive visualization, may help a person during an attack. Panic disorder can be successfully treated, and sufferers can go on to lead full and satisfying lives. With appropriate treatment, nearly 90% of people with panic disorder can find relief. Without treatment, panic disorder can have serious consequences and can severely impair quality of life. Complications of untreated panic disorder include. Avoidance. A person may discontinue any activities that seem to trigger a panic attack. This can make a normal work and home life nearly impossible. Anticipatory anxiety. This refers to anxiety that is triggered merely by thinking about the possibility of having an anxiety attack. Agoraphobia. This is the fear of being in places or situations in which an attack may occur, or from which escape would be difficult or highly embarrassing. This fear can drive people to avoid public places and crowds, and may even progress to the point that the person will not leave his or her home. About one-third of people with panic disorder develop agoraphobia. Claustrophobia.
