What is VASOCONSTRICTION? What does VASOCONSTRICTION mean? VASOCONSTRICTION meaning - VASOCONSTRICTION definition - VASOCONSTRICTION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Vasoconstriction is the narrowing of the blood vessels resulting from contraction of the muscular wall of the vessels, in particular the large arteries and small arterioles. The process is the opposite of vasodilation, the widening of blood vessels. The process is particularly important in staunching hemorrhage and acute blood loss. When blood vessels constrict, the flow of blood is restricted or decreased, thus retaining body heat or increasing vascular resistance. This makes the skin turn paler because less blood reaches the surface, reducing the radiation of heat. On a larger level, vasoconstriction is one mechanism by which the body regulates and maintains mean arterial pressure. Medications causing vasoconstriction, also known as vasoconstrictors, are one type of medicine used to raise blood pressure. Generalized vasoconstriction usually results in an increase in systemic blood pressure, but it may also occur in specific tissues, causing a localized reduction in blood flow. The extent of vasoconstriction may be slight or severe depending on the substance or circumstance. Many vasoconstrictors also cause pupil dilation. Medications that cause vasoconstriction include: antihistamines, decongestants, and stimulants. Severe vasoconstriction may result in symptoms of intermittent claudication. The mechanism that leads to vasoconstriction results from the increased concentration of calcium (Ca2+ ions) within vascular smooth muscle cells. However, the specific mechanisms for generating an increased intracellular concentration of calcium depends on the vasoconstrictor. Smooth muscle cells are capable of generating action potentials, but this mechanism is rarely utilized for contraction in the vasculature. Hormonal or pharmokinetic components are more physiologically relevant. Two common stimuli for eliciting smooth muscle contraction are circulating epinephrine and activation of the sympathetic nervous system (through release of norepinephrine) that directly innervates the muscle. These compounds interact with cell surface adrenergic receptors. Such stimuli result in a signal transduction cascade that leads to increased intracellular calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum through IP3-mediated calcium release, as well as enhanced calcium entry across the sarcolemma through calcium channels. The rise in intracellular calcium complexes with calmodulin, which in turn activates myosin light-chain kinase. This enzyme is responsible for phosphorylating the light chain of myosin to stimulate cross-bridge cycling. Once elevated, the intracellular calcium concentration is returned to its basal level through a variety of protein pumps and calcium exchangers located on the plasma membrane and sarcoplasmic reticulum. This reduction in calcium removes the stimulus necessary for contraction, allowing for a return to baseline. Factors that trigger vasoconstriction can be of exogenous or endogenous origin. Ambient temperature is an example of the former. Cutaneous vasoconstriction will occur because of the body's exposure to the severe cold. Examples of endogenous factors include the autonomic nervous system, circulating hormones, and intrinsic mechanisms inherent to the vasculature itself (also referred to as the myogenic response).

Now, anti-histamines, they are one of the most safest medicines which are available in the market and most of them are quite safe. Patients have been using it for years together without causing much of side effects. But any tablet, for a matter, even a simple paracetamol can cause side effects. So you have to be really careful when you are using it, and you should do it only under the guidance or the supervision of an ENT doctor or a doctor who has given you those anti-histamines. In any case most of the anti-histamines have side effects which are categorized into acute and chronic. The acute side effect can be sedation, you have loss of concentration and you feel little weak and tired. Usually you get used to it in a couple of days. There can also be little dryness, you feel itching in the throat and stuff like that, that’s very common. The chronic side effects can range from dryness in the throat, you may end up with weight loss or sometimes even weight gain, you may end up with constipation, drowsiness which may even prolong. http://www.rxwiki.com/articles/news_story Ask a pharmacist your questions now! http://www.rxwiki.com/askrx/questions Most people turn towards over-the counter decongestants when they have a stuffy nose or congestion. Unfortunately, if you have high blood pressure you should avoid these products. That is because decongestants work to relieve congestion by shrinking blood vessels in the nasal membranes of the nose and air passages. These changes may affect blood vessels in locations other than the nose resulting in increased blood pressure. Decongestant examples are pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, and oxymetazoline. Decongestants in oral and nasal form can affect your blood pressure so it is recommended to try alternative options. Saline nasal spray is a great option to flush your sinuses. Drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, and getting rest are also important steps to helping your congestion. If you still experience bothersome nasal congestion, talk to your pharmacist or doctor for advice.

Increased capillary permeability accompanies capillary dilatation, producing an outward passage of plasma protein and fluid into the extracellular spaces, an increase in lymph flow and protein content, and the formation of edema. In addition, histamine has a direct stimulant action on smooth muscle, producing contraction or mostly relaxation if H 2-receptors are activated. Also in humans, the stimulant effect of histamine may cause contraction of the intestinal muscle. However, little effect is noticed on the uterus, bladder, or gallbladder. Histamine has some stimulant effect on duodenal, salivary, pancreatic, bronchial, and lacrimal glands. The benefits of moringa include the following: Edema: Moringa extracts are beneficial in the treatment of edema. Research studies have confirmed that treatment with moringa oleifera root extract, which possesses anti-inflammatory qualities, has been significantly effective in inhibiting the development of edema. Moreover, the studies suggest that the efficacy of moringa herb stands equal with the potent anti-inflammatory medicine indomethacin in the treatment of such painful conditions. Liver Protection: Moringa extracts exert a hepatoprotective effect on the liver. Research studies have validated the effectiveness of moringa leaves against the liver damage caused by anti-tubercular drugs as well as its stimulating effects in speeding up the recovery process. Antiboitics do not help colds or allergies and may make them worse. In this video I'm going to discuss over the counter solutions for nasal congestion. Decongestants may help your symptoms of nasal congestion by making the blood vessels in the lining of your nose smaller. This vasoconstrictive effect reduces swelling ,inflammation and mucus formation in the nasal passages and makes it easier to breath. The bad part about many decongestants is that they don't only make the vessels in your nasal passages smaller but they affect the vessels in your entire body as well which can lead to an elevated blood pressure. For Americans that already have high blood pressure, this could be dangerous. Common decongestants are Phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine. Sometimes these medications are kept behind the pharmacy counter. They are not prescription medications so you just need to ask your pharmacist for them. Many of the multisymptom cold and flu concoctions available on the market today have one of these decongestants in them. It's important to look at the ingredients and understand what you are taking so that you don't overdose and so that you know how your body responds to certain ingredients. Decongestants can make some people feel jittery or have trouble sleeping. Those with high blood pressure may want to steer clear of oral decongestants. You should only treat the symptoms you have. Any and all medications carry with them possible risks and side effects. That being said, if you don't treat some cold symptoms they may worsen. Thick Germy secretions that sit in your sinuses for a prolonged period of time can become bacterially infected and this is what we are trying to prevent. So it's a balancing act. Be aware that many medications combine different types of ingredients into one product. Many antihistamines have decongestants with them. Usually they will have a D attached to the name. Some common combinations are Allegra-D, Claritin-D, and Zyrtec-D. This is why I'm trying to get you familiar with the generic names of drugs and looking at the ingredients in everything you buy. It can all become very confusing, overwhelming and expensive!! Instead of an oral decongestant you could also try a nasal decongestant such as Afrin (oxymetazoline), Nasal decongestants especially can start making your symptoms worse if used longer than 3 days. It's very important to use these medications correctly. Other nasal sprays that are now on the market as otc options include nasocort and flonase. These are nasal steroids. They too work by reducing swelling and mucus in the nasal passageways and they are safer to use for longer periods. A nasal spray with xylitol has been shown to be effective with keeping the nasal cavity moisturized. If you are going to use nasal sprays then you should know how to administer them correctly. You should blow your nose prior to using them. A common mistake is to spray the septum of your nose which separates your two nostrils. If you do this it may cause bleeding. That is not a side effect of the medication. It's improper administration. Instead you should gently tilt your head forward pointing your nose toward your toes and spray the medication in your nostril but aimed straight back or a little towards your ear. Gently breath in or sniff the medication while spraying it so that it doesn't drip back out but be careful not to sharply inhale it or it will just go down the back of your throat. Nasal irrigation works wonders to clean out your sinus cavities and remove contaminants and irritants directly. It's cheap and it's available over the counter.

“The Race for Brineura” is a short film that takes viewers behind the scenes of the first therapy approved to treat the underlying cause of CLN2 disease, a form of Batten disease. The film follows the families, advocates, physicians and company that came together to make treatment a reality for patients affected by this ultra-rare, rapidly progressive fatal brain condition. Indication Brineura™ (cerliponase alfa) injection for intraventricular use is indicated to slow the loss of ambulation in symptomatic pediatric patients 3 years of age and older with late infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2 (CLN2), also known as tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1) deficiency. Important Safety Information Brineura is a prescription medicine. Before treatment with Brineura, it is important to discuss your child’s medical history with their doctor. Tell the doctor if they are sick or taking any medication and if they are allergic to any medicines. Your child’s doctor will decide if Brineura is right for them. If you have questions or would like more information about Brineura, contact your child’s doctor. Brineura is only given by infusion into the fluid of the brain (known as an intraventricular injection) and using sterile technique to reduce the risk of infection. An intraventricular access device or port must be in place at least 5 to 7 days prior to the first infusion. Intraventricular access device-related infections were observed with Brineura treatment. If any signs of infection occur, contact your child’s doctor immediately. Your child’s intraventricular access device may need to be replaced over time. Brineura should not be used in patients with active intraventricular access device-related complications (e.g., leakage, device failure, or device-related infection) and with shunts used to drain extra fluid around the brain. Low blood pressure and/or slow heart rate may occur during and following the Brineura infusion. Contact your child’s doctor immediately if these reactions occur. Undesirable or hypersensitivity reactions related to Brineura treatment, including fever, vomiting, and irritability, may occur during treatment and as late as 24 hours after infusion. Your child may receive medication such as antihistamines before Brineura infusions to reduce the risk of reactions. Serious and severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur. If a reaction occurs, the infusion will be stopped and your child may be given additional medication. If a severe reaction occurs, the infusion will be stopped and your child will receive appropriate medical treatment. If any signs of anaphylaxis occur, immediately seek medical care. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below 3 years of age have not been established. The most common side effects reported during Brineura infusions included fever, problems with the electrical activity of the heart, decreased or increased protein in the fluid of the brain, vomiting, seizures, hypersensitivity, collection of blood outside of blood vessels (hematoma), headache, irritability, and increased white blood cell count in the fluid of the brain, device-related infection, slow heart rate, feeling jittery, and low blood pressure. Intraventricular device-related side effects included infection, delivery system-related complications, and increased white blood cell count in fluid of the brain. These are not all of the possible side effects with Brineura. Talk to your child’s doctor if they have any symptoms that bother them or that do not go away. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Please see Important Safety Information www.brineura.com. Top 10 Tips To Feel More Energetic (Part 2) https://goo.gl/UBK4Ql Do you struggle to get out of bed, feel constantly drained and rely on pick-me-ups such as protein bars, coffee and sugary treats to get you through the day? If so, you’re far from alone. Here are the Top 10 Tips To Feel More Energetic throughout the day. 1. Rule Out Existing Health Problems Fatigue is a common symptom of many illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and thyroid disease. If you are constantly tired, the first step is to talk to your doctor to rule out any possible existing health problems which could be causing it. Many medications can also contribute to fatigue. These include blood pressure medicines, antihistamines, diuretics, and other drugs. If you begin to experience fatigue after starting a new medication, tell your doctor so you can find something more suitable to you. 2. Key Nutrients We all have increasingly busy lives, so it’s essential to provide the body with enough vitamins and key nutrients to get through the day. Iron - Many people have low enough iron levels to be anaemic but a blood test will pick up any iron problems you may have. Regardless of your iron levels, it’s a good idea to include plenty of iron-rich foods in your diet such as dried fruit and dark green vegetables like Spinach. B-vitamins - B vitamins are particularly vital as they’re required by the body to convert the food you eat into energy. They are most commonly found in grains such as brown rice, barley and oats, as well as lean proteins such as oily fish and turkey. Protein - Avoiding protein will leave you exhausted, as it’s a vital energy giver. Protein provides slow burning energy, so it’s great for fighting fatigue for the whole day. Good protein sources are meat, fish, cheese, tofu, beans, lentils, yogurt, nuts and seeds. 3. Physical Activity It might be the last thing you feel like, but avoiding exercise because you’re tired actually makes you feel worse. Exercise has consistently been linked to improved vigour and overall quality of life. This is because regular exercise makes your heart and lungs work more efficiently, delivering oxygen and vital nutrients around the body. That’s the equivalent of improving the fuel efficiency of a car. It gives you more energy for any kind of activity. 4. Yoga & Meditation Although almost any exercise is good, yoga and other meditative exercises may be especially effective for boosting energy. After just six weeks of once-a-week yoga classes, volunteers in a British study reported improvements in clear-mindedness, energy, and confidence. It’s never too late to try, either. Many elderly people who struggle with chronic fatigue turn to these gentle and light exercises and stretching routines. Use this, combined with controlled abdominal breathing and you will feel more alert than ever once your body adjusts. 5. Drink Plenty Of Water Dehydration zaps energy and impairs physical performance. It has also been shown to decrease alertness and concentration. The easiest way to tell if you’re drinking enough water or not is to check the colour of your urine. Urine should be pale yellow or straw coloured when you are hydrated enough. If it’s darker than that, you need to drink more water. Losing as little as 2% of your body’s normal water content can take its toll on your energy levels, so make sure you’re constantly sipping on a cup of water. If you find water too boring by itself, add mint, basil, lemon or cucumber to liven up the flavor. https://www.facebook.com/toptruths/ https://www.toptruths.com https://www.advexon.tv LIKE / SHARE / SUBSCRIBE Playlists: TOP Educational: http://bit.ly/TTEducational TOP 10: http://bit.ly/TOPTruthsTop10 TOP Cotroversial: http://bit.ly/TOPTruthsControversial TOP Science & Tech: http://bit.ly/TOPTruthsScTech Powered by Advexon: http://advexon.tv/

Out of despondency, huge numbers of us have turned to sleeping pills and with half of the American populace experiencing a sleeping disorder or poor rest, it’s no big surprise. However, here’s the thing: dozing pills can’t offer you some assistance for the long term. They give a transient fix. The larger part of sleeping pills are a particular kind of medication that actuates and looks after rest. They’ve delegated something many refer to as calming hypnotics. Among other narcotic entrancing medications are benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Benzodiazepines—like Xanax and Valium—can be addictive and are utilized to treat uneasiness issue by expanding languor. Barbiturates discourage the focal sensory system are utilized as soporifics and tranquilizers. Similarly as with all medications, there’s a rundown of symptoms that go with sleeping pills. Beside the likeliness of them being propensity shaping, they can bring about below-given issues-: Difficulty focusing and remembering Constipation Stomach pain Parasomnias (Doing things without realizing it) Dizziness Weakness Uncontrollable shaking Sometimes these sleeping pills lead to slow down of breathing rhythm and significantly lighten. You many suffer from the lung disease like asthma, COPD, thus these sleeping pills dangerous and even fatal. How Sleep Deprivation Affects the Body? Getting under eight hours of sleep is terrible for your body. At the point when your body doesn’t get enough rest, for the most part under eight hours, it endures. Subjective capacity—your long-and-short memory—is truly influenced. Have you ever attempted to concentrate on an assignment while running on zero fuel? it’s close incomprehensible. Preparing even the most straightforward things appears to be testing and your enthusiastic reactions to things turn out to be completely skewed. The scariest part is that lack of sleep has been connected to genuine wellbeing issues including diabetes, obesity, and cancer. It’s essential to make sense of why you’re not sleeping the way you used to and take a shot at settling it. So, just go for this incredible tea which smells good and even tastes better than your regular tea. Enjoy the drink and have a full resting night with sound sleep.

She Boils Bananas Before Bed and Drinks the Liquid, You Won’t Believe What Happens to Her Sleep She cooks bananas in front of the bed and drinks the liquid, you do not believe what is happening to her sleep. We had all these restless nights of throwing and twisting and staring at the ceiling, unable to get more than a few hours of shuteye. The more you worry, do not sleep, the more your mind race, and the next thing you know is the sun peeking through the window. I spent a too many nights and had to end up with my bad sleep patterns. I came across this delicious tea concept and it completely improved my cycle. Irregular sleep patterns or even sleep disorders can come from several different things like depression, stress and anxiety. Almost every night, I would get to bed and my mind would race. Whether I thought about work, family or simply the things I needed the next day, I could not allow myself to relax. If your mind is active, chances are that you will not fall asleep. Certain medications can also cause insomnia. Painkillers, antihistamines and heart and blood pressure medicines are among the many that contribute to sleep loss. Yes, some medications could actually make you sleepy at first, but they can also trigger frequent bath trips or anxiety that can further disrupt your rest. Whether it is one of these questions or perhaps it is that you are addicted to your phone when you should sleep, something needs to change. banana tea With just a few items that are probably already in your kitchen, you can whip together a banana tea in no time! This organic, banana-infused sleeping pills works wonders and tastes so good. How does it work? Bananas, especially the shells, are loaded with potassium and magnesium. While magnesium helps to prevent sleep disturbances, both magnesium and potassium work together to relax the muscles. In fact, magnesium is one of the best minerals for relaxation! Remember this recipe calls for 100% organic bananas. Bananas that are not organic are contaminated with harmful pesticides, and as we encourage you to eat the boiled dish, it must be chemically free. This tea takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed every night before sleeping. Ingredients: 1 organic banana. 1 small pot with water. A shot of cinnamon (optional) All you have to do is cut off both ends of the banana and place them, peel and all, in boiling water. Cook it for about 10 minutes. Using a sieve, pour the water into a beaker. If you are adventurous, sprinkle the cinnamon into the tea. Drink it an hour before sleeping. If you are worried that you are lavish, you have never had a boiled banana before! After the banana has been cooked, sprinkle some cinnamon over it. The food of the warm, gooey fruit and its peel together with the tea increases its soothing effects ... Not to mention it makes a delicious dessert! I hope these tips can help you. https://youtu.be/cF7lHwav9NI

This lesson discusses responding to distributive shock. The three types of distributive shock discussed are septic, anaphylactic and neurogenic. The approaches are different, according to the type of distributive shock, and those differences are highlighted within the lesson. There is also information given about the administration of medicines and broader evaluation. "The initial management of distributive shock is to increase intravascular volume. The intent is to provide enough volume to overcome the inappropriate redistribution of existing volume. To do so, administer 20 mL/kg of fluid as a bolus over 5 to 10 minutes and repeat as needed. Beyond initial management, therapy is tailored to the cause of the distributive shock. In septic shock, aggressive fluid management is generally necessary. Broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics are a key intervention and should be administered as soon as possible. In addition, a stress dose of hydrocortisone (especially with adrenal insufficiency) and vasopressors may be needed to support blood pressure. After fluid resuscitation, vasopressors are given if needed and according to the type of septic shock. Normotensive individuals are usually given dopamine; warm shock is treated with norepinephrine; and cold shock is treated with epinephrine. Transfusing packed red blood cells to bring hemoglobin above 10 g/dL treats decreased oxygen carrying capacity. As blood cultures return, focus antibiotic therapy to the particular microbe and its resistance patterns. For anaphylactic shock, intramuscular epinephrine is the first and most important treatment. In severe cases, a second dose of epinephrine may be needed or intravenous administration may be required. Crystalloid fluid can be administered judiciously. Remember that in anaphylactic shock, capillary permeability may increase considerably. Thus, while it is important to support blood pressure overall, there is significant likelihood that third spacing and pulmonary edema will occur. Antihistamines and corticosteroids can also blunt the anaphylactic response. If breathing challenges arise, consider albuterol use to achieve bronchodilation. In very severe cases of anaphylactic shock, a continuous epinephrine infusion in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU, or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, or PICU, may be required. Neurogenic shock is clinically challenging because often there is limited ability to correct the insult. Injury to the autonomic pathways in the spinal cord results in decreased systemic vascular resistance and hypotension. An inappropriately low pulse or bradycardia is a clinical sign of neurogenic shock. Therefore, treatment is focused on fluids first. Administer 20 mL/kg bolus over 5 to 10 minutes; then reassess the individual for a response. If hypotension does not respond to fluid resuscitation, vasopressors are needed. This resuscitation should be done in conjunction with a broader neurological evaluation and treatment plan."
