http://simply-healthy.com I spoke with someone with a bronchitis infection and asked how she was feeling. She said, "Great! I'm on a Z-pac!" If you've ever been on a Z-pac or any antibiotic, you know that they do work. What we often don't know is that while the antibiotic is taking out the bad bacteria that is making us feel bad, it's also taking out the good bacteria which our body needs. Heard of the phrase, "there's a fungus among us?" This is very true. We are made of bacteria and fungus. Our body is constantly trying to maintain the balance of both. I'm discussing today how to restore the good bacteria in your body after taking antibiotics. 1) Eat yogurt with active live cultures -- must say this on the label 2) Take a probiotic supplement 3) Drink a probiotic beverage such as kefir, lasso, or Kombucha 4) Eat fermented foods such as sauerkraut and pickled vegetables Doing this will build your immune system to help fight off future infections, strengthen your digestive sysem, and give you more energy. **FREE TELESEMINAR** Every Monday at 7:30 pm (CST) Kick Sugar Without Feeling Deprived - Sign up here: http://simply-healthy.com/kicksugarcall **FREE 3 DAY SUGAR DETOX** Download your copy here -- http://simply-healthy.com/3daysugardetox **SPOTS AVAILABLE IN MY SIGNATURE COACHING PROGRAM** Details here: http://simply-healthy.com/health-coaching Warmly, Elaine King Certified Holistic Health Coach

Many of these bacteria are harmless (or even helpful!), but there are a few strains of ‘super bacteria’ that are pretty nasty -- and they’re growing resistant to our antibiotics. Why is this happening? Kevin Wu details the evolution of this problem that presents a big challenge for the future of medicine. Lesson by Kevin Wu, animation by Brett Underhill.

Is it a smart move to consider taking a probiotic formulation at the same time as you would take an antibiotic? Not really, let me explain why this is so in a little more detail... The question today is: Can I take probiotics with antibiotics?î Of course, you can do that, but why would you want to do that? Why would you want to expose yourself to the risk of killing off beneficial bacteria with a drug that's designed to be antibiosis or anti-life? It doesn't make sense to me. You're better off finishing off the course of antibiotics and then going onto probiotics. But why would you want to take an antibiotic in the first place? Many people I see take them for crazy reasons. Crazy reasons. And then they take them again and again and again. Over the course of the last 31 years of the many tens of thousands of people I've seen in my clinic, I've noticed that a very large percentage of people who have never been well since on antibiotics. They take them again and again and again. Why would they take them? A recurring theme is for facial acne. A recurring theme could be for digestive discomfort. Some people actually take them as a precaution, which his crazy. Why would you want to do that? Taking a probiotic alongside an antibiotic doesn't really make much sense. You really want to finish the course first and then take the probiotic. When you take the probiotic, please make sure that you take foods in your diet that support the encouragement and development of beneficial bacteria. These are prebiotic foods. Try not to fall for the hype of prebiotic crap inside capsules or powders because a lot of prebiotics actually support bad bacterial fermentation. You can get farting and bloating by having prebiotics. I'm very careful to avoid prebiotics. I just attended a show in Las Vegas where I was very excited to find a particular prebiotic, which I am going to incorporate into one of my products. After a lot of research into it, I think it's going to hold the key and it's going to be put in a very special capsule that releases the prebiotic in a different part of the gut than the probiotic. So it's a very clever and ingenious way to make sure that we've got targeted delivery of the pre and the pro. Please make sure you eat the right foods if you're taking probiotics. There's no point in taking a probiotic capsule and swallowing it down with a mouth full of vodka or beer or coca cola. Doesn't really make sense. There's no point in taking probiotics if you eat pizzas or if you eat crap food. There's point is there? Please support probiotics after antibiotics with no alcohol in your diet and a very good intake of the correct foods that build this health. What kind of foods are we talking about? Healthy foods. Green, leafy vegetables, in particular, the brassicas like broccoli and cauliflower. When I say that, you don't need a whole plate full of broccoli. You might have a small amount to start with or you could get a bit of bloating and gas. Spinach, green beans, asparagus, lettuce. The list goes on and on. You can read more about these foods on yeastinfection.org. I've done YouTube videos on them. You can go to EricBakker.com. I've got a lot of papers written on these particular foods. I won't go into too much detail about that. But just to reiterate. Finish your course of antibiotics. Take the probiotics. How long should you take probiotics? How long is a piece of rope? You need to take them for a long time until you feel that they've really benefited your gut and got you to a very good state of health. Check out CanXida Restore for that reason. I created that product to restore the gut and it's really effective after antibiotics because it also contains enzymes that allow the proper fermentation of food and then six types of probiotics that encourage the beneficial bacteria to come back again. It's designed to hit the spot exactly where you want those bacteria in the small intestine, in the large intestine, and it won't get affected by bile or stomach acid. Check it out. Thanks for tuning in.

“How to recover from antibiotics.” – What does that mean? If you’ve been treated with a course of antibiotics for a long or a short time, or if you’ve been using food that has antibiotics in it, without you knowing, or if you’ve been misusing antibiotics in any way, you might start to have health problems. You might suffer from certain complaints that will make your life a little bit more difficult. Side Effects of Antibiotics Let me discuss the complaints that you might have from use of antibiotics. The most affected organs would probably be your intestines. That’s because the antibiotics are going to kill the bacterial flora, which is the friendly bacteria in your intestines that is responsible for digestion and making vitamin K, which is important for you. So, you will notice that you’re having trouble in your gut, so, you will start to have bloating, gas, irregular bowel movement, so, you will have constipation, then diarrhea and then bloating again and so on. You might also suffer from heartburn and feeling generally unwell. You might also start to notice bleeding from the gums or from the nose. That’s also related to the lack of vitamin K. You might also suffer from yeast infections, which is a fungal infection that can be anywhere on your body, either on your skin or in your mouth or in the genital area. All that is because your bacteria flora – the friendly bacteria in the gut – has been affected by the antibiotics. So, what we need to do now is correct the level of bacterial flora in your gut. How do we do that? First of, you will need to lead a healthy lifestyle. So, you drink a lot of water. Avoid bad foods. Bad foods are rich in sugar, carbohydrates that are unhealthy, like pasta, packed foods, processed foods – these are all unhealthy foods. Instead of that you should eat vegetables, fruits, grains, healthy fats (that’s vegetable oils mainly). Probiotics and Prebiotics You can also use probiotics. These are very healthy foods that are fermented, so that helps the growth of the good bacteria in the gut. Probiotics are mainly: yogurt, kefir and yeast. If you are suffering from any problems with kefir or yeast, I would suggest that you take it slowly. So you start with very small amounts, like one spoon a day, and then increase it gradually. If you go to the shop and want to buy probiotics, look for the name lactobacillus on it – that’s the good bacteria for you. You can also use foods that are called prebiotics. Prebiotics are foods that help the growth of bacteria, because they don’t get absorbed in the body, they stay for a long time in the intestines. Like, leeks (garlic, onions), honey, bananas, these are all very good foods for your bacteria flora. You can also try fermented fresh vegetables. That means, pickles that are pickled in a healthy way. So, you can try to pickle at home. So, try for example the ginger, to pickle it at home, or maybe cucumbers, also are healthy. But don’t add too much salt. So, pickled vegetables are very good for your gut flora. If you’re a fan of soups you can try bone broth or gelatin soups. You can buy bones from the butcher, and what’s inside – the broth – you can make soups with it, and that’s very good for your gut flora. You can also add onions to it, or any vegetables of your choice. It’s very important to know that your gut flora affects the function of your intestines, and healthy intestines affect the whole body. So it’s very important to replace the gut flora that has been affected by your antibiotic abuse. I wish you all the best! While they may give your temporary relief, in the long run, they can cause irreversible damage to your body. Here are a few: They increase the risk of obesity. According to studies, industrial raised animals are given low doses of antibiotics to make them fatter, which could also occur in humans. Can cause type I diabetes. Since antibiotics kill the beneficial bacteria in the intestines, they play havoc with your immune system. If you consume a large dose of them since an early age, it can cause your immune system to attack the pancreas, thus affecting your insulin-making process, causing diabetes. They can destroy bacteria like H. pylori. Though a bad bacteria, it is the reason which protects people from asthma. Killing it can lead to asthma. Resistant to infections. The biggest disadvantage of taking antibiotics on a regular basis is that it increases the risk of antibiotic resistant infections.

H PYLORI How to Completely Eradicate Them Off Your Gut. 7 natural treatments for H. pylori infection Many in vivo and in vitro studies on natural H. pylori treatments have been done. Most treatments reduced the number of bacteria in the stomach but failed to permanently eradicate them. Be sure to talk with your doctor before beginning a natural treatment regimen. You shouldn’t replace your recommend treatment for H. pylori with natural remedies. With your doctor’s approval, you can use natural treatments as adjuvant therapy. This may increase the effects of conventional drugs. Probiotics Probiotics help maintain the balance between good and bad gut bacteria. According to a 2012 study, taking probiotics before or after standard H. pylori treatment may improve eradication rates. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria in your stomach. Probiotics help replenish good bacteria. They may also reduce your risk of developing yeast overgrowth. Researchers found evidence to suggest that the bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus delivers the best results. Green tea A 2009 study on mice showed that green tea may help kill and slow the growth of Helicobacter bacteria. The study found that consuming green tea before an infection prevents stomach inflammation. Consuming the tea during an infection reduced the severity of gastritis. Honey Honey has shown antibacterial abilities against H. pylori. Additional research supports this conclusion. No research to date has shown that honey can eradicate the bacteria on its own. Researchers suggest that using honey with standard treatments may shorten treatment time. Raw honey and Manuka honey may have the most antibacterial effects. Olive oil Olive oil may also treat H. pylori bacteria. A 2007 study showed that olive oil has strong antibacterial abilities against eight H. pylori strains. Three of those strains are antibiotic-resistant. Olive oil also remains stable in gastric acid. Licorice root Licorice root is a common natural remedy for stomach ulcers. It may also fight H. pylori. According to a 2009 study, licorice root doesn’t directly kill the bacteria, though it can help prevent it from sticking to cell walls. Broccoli sprouts A compound in broccoli sprouts called sulphoraphane may be effective against H. pylori. Research on mice and humans suggests that it reduces gastric inflammation. It also may lower bacteria colonization and its effects. A study on people with both type 2 diabetes and H. pylori showed that broccoli sprout powder fights the bacteria. It also improved cardiovascular risk factors. Phototherapy Studies show that H. pylori are vulnerable to light. Phototherapy uses ultraviolet light to help eliminate H. pylori in the stomach. Researchers believe phototherapy used within the stomach is safe. It may be most beneficial when antibiotics are not an option.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria kill 23,000 people every year in the United States, and the United Nations estimates that by 2050, more people will die from antibiotic-resistant infections than currently die from cancer. Discovered 100 years ago, bacteriophages—viruses that eat bacteria—might provide an answer. But phage therapy has only been approved for use on humans in the former Soviet Union. Motherboard travels to Georgia to meet the doctors using phage therapy today, and meets with the American scientists trying to normalize phage therapy in the United States. Antibiotics are medicines used to treat bacterial infections. There are different types of antibiotics that work against different strains of bacteria and some types of parasites. When used properly, they either kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause a particular health problem. This in turn helps your natural immune system fight the infection. But antibiotics often have side effects that cause other temporary health issues. Some common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, vaginal yeast infections, allergic reactions and inner ear problems. 1. Eat Probiotic Yogurt When taking antibiotics, it is highly recommended to include yogurt with ‘good bacteria’ in your diet. Eating yogurt that contains ‘live cultures’ (also labeled as probiotic yogurt) helps your body recover from diarrhea, one of the common side effects of antibiotics. These live cultures are gut-friendly bacteria that provide a layer of protection in the intestines and help generate lactic acid to get bacterial toxins out of the body. 2. Eat Fermented Foods or Take a Probiotic Supplement. Apart from yogurt, many fermented foods naturally contain a high amount of probiotics. So, in addition to yogurt, include kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut, pickles, pickled beets, pickled turnips, pickled carrots and kimchi in your diet. 3. Eat Garlic. Garlic is a natural antibiotic that helps kill harmful microbes without the side effects of antibiotic medicines. Also, it contains an important compound known as allicin that protects your kidneys and liver from the potential damage of antibiotics. 4. Take Milk Thistle Supplements. Taking traditional antibiotics can be hard on your liver, which is responsible for breaking down the medications you ingest. To protect your liver from any damage due to a course of antibiotics, the herb milk thistle is very effective. The rich antioxidants in this herb help protect the liver. 5. Sip Ginger Tea Whether you suffer from diarrhea, nausea or vomiting due to prescribed antibiotics, ginger is effective in dealing with these side effects. Ginger’s natural antibiotic property helps prevent and treat many health problems caused by bacteria. Fresh ginger has an antibiotic effect against food-borne pathogens as well as respiratory and periodontal infections. 6. Eat Bland Foods. Some of the most widely reported side effects of antibitoics include diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. To counter these issues, it is advisable that you eat only bland food during and after a cource of antibiotics. These types of food inlcude dry crackers, plain bread, white rice, etc. 7. Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic. Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial properties that help fight harmful bacteria in your body. Also, it is a good remedy for controlling diarrhea, one of the common side effects of antibiotic medicine. 8. Drink Enough Fluids. To counter dry mouth caused by medicines and a mild loss of fluids from diarrhea or vomiting, drink more water. Drinking an ample amount of water throughout the day will keep your body hydrated. For a more-severe loss of water, drink fluids that contain water, sugar and salt to help replace electrolytes that the body needs. 9. Stay Healthy. One way to deal with side effects of antibiotics is to stay healthy so you don’t have to take them for long. Take steps to support your health in the following way. 10. Take Antibiotics as Directed. Last but not least, you must always take your antibiotic medicine as directed by your physician. For instance, some antibiotics should be taken only with water. Others need to be taken with food in order to increase their absorption in the body and ward off an upset stomach, a common side effect of antibiotics. Used properly, antibiotics can save lives. They either kill bacteria or keep them from reproducing. Your body's natural defenses can usually take it from there. Antibiotics do not fight infections caused by viruses, such as • Colds • Flu • Most coughs and bronchitis • Sore throats, unless caused by strep If a virus is making you sick, taking antibiotics may do more harm than good. Each time you take antibiotics, you increase the chances that bacteria in your body will be able to resist them. Later, you could get or spread an infection that those antibiotics cannot cure. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) causes infections that are resistant to several common antibiotics. When you take antibiotics, follow the directions carefully. It is important to finish your medicine even if you feel better. If you stop treatment too soon, some bacteria may survive and re-infect you. Do not save antibiotics for later or use someone else's prescription. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Learn more about these 4 antibiotic essential oils on my website here: https://draxe.com/antibacterial-essential-oils/?utm_campaign=Live-Apr-2017&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=antibioticoils Today, prescription antibiotics are wrecking the health of our country. Thankfully, we have essential oils, which can act as natural antibiotics. Getting rid of bad bacteria is the main goal of antibiotics, but prescriptions kill all bacteria in your body — both good and bad, causing serious health problems. Doctors and researchers say that 70 percent of good bacteria is in your gut (or microbiome). Killing this good bacteria can cause leaky gut or autoimmune disease over time. In this episode of Ancient Medicine Today, I share what I think are the top 4 antibiotic essential oils and how they can help restore your body to health — the natural, gentle way. Antibiotics are a big deal. They treat infections and diseases caused by bacteria. Hospital antibiotics have become one of the most over-prescribed "medicines" today. As a result, people have ruined their digestive systems and ironically, have lowered their natural immunity to all types of infections in the future. Get rid of infections without the digestive destruction, with these 6 powerful natural antibiotics. 1.Garlic Garlic has been used medicinally by cultures around the world for thousands of years. In fact, it was used in the 1700s to ward off the plague. Garlic possesses potent antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties and is able to help protect and facilitate removal of unfriendly bacteria. It is also very high in natural antioxidants that destroy free radicals, which also supports a strong immune system. The active ingredient in garlic, allicin, is the key component to killing and warding off harmful bacteria. Crush it to activate these compounds, and eat it raw, in a warm tea or in lightly cooked food. Primary Uses : Internal, general colds, flu, ear infections, immune system booster. 2. Oil of Oregano Oil of oregano takes care of pathogenic bacteria without disrupting beneficial bacteria. It is also antiviral and antifungal which makes it a powerful, natural antibiotic with a three-in-one combination that rivals pharmaceuticals while not encouraging antibiotic resistance. The key antimicrobial ingredient in oregano oil is carvacrol. You should ensure that your source is at least 70 percent carvacrol content in order to be effective. Primary Uses : Skin infections, foot & nail fungus, sinus infections. 3.Manuka Honey Among its many other health benefits, manuka honey has a powerful infection-fighting punch. Unlike normal raw honey, manuka honey is made from bees that pollinate the manuka bush. The result is a honey rich in naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide, methylglyoxal, and dihydroxyacetone. This trifecta of substances is responsible for the potent antimicrobial properties of Manuka honey. Studies have even found that manuka honey can kill off staph infections, an antibiotic-resistant superbug. Primary Uses: Skin or oral infections. 4.Cinnamon Cinnamon is one of the world’s oldest and most common spices. Adding cinnamon to your morning coffee is a great preventative against common infections like acne, urinary tract infection, and gum disease. Superfoodly says it is important to buy Ceylon cinnamon, as the more common cassia variety can be toxic to the liver. 5.Ginger Ginger is another promising natural antibiotic. That’s because ginger contains natural compounds that can • Fight infections • Soothe digestive issues & discomfort • Relieve nausea • Reduce inflammation • Increases stomach acid to calm digestion after a meal These properties are the reason why raw ginger is always served with raw foods like sushi. 6.Colloidal silver Colloidal silver has been known as an effective antibiotic for centuries. The main advantage was that it was rapidly fatal to microbes without toxic action on its host. Recent research has also stated that colloidal silver can destroy antibiotic resistant microbes like MRSA (Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), the bird flu, and SARS (Severe acute respiratory syndrome). Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge: http://bit.ly/MMASurgeEp1 Mary Poffenroth, an adjunct professor of biology, discusses the differences between good and bad bacteri. Poffenroth discusses how both types of bacteria exist in abundance throughout the world. Without bacteria, humankind would cease to exist. Bacteria are not always bad, as good bacteria exist within the body and are critical in keeping the body healthy and functional. Bacteria are prokaryotic organisms, which do not have nuclei.http://www.biology4kids.com/files/micro_prokaryote.html Bacteria exist everywhere on the planet, and thrive in various conditions. They are necessary for an ecosystem to flourish and humankind would not be able to survive without bacteria.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IekdfJ-7Zyk Whether bacteria are considered "good" or "bad" is often determined by their potential harm to the environment and/or humankind. Harmful bacteria are called pathogenic bacteria, or pathogens, which either assume the form of an endotoxin or an exotoxin, and pose a threat to humans by creating bacterial infections within the body.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IekdfJ-7Zyk Examples of these pathogens include E.coli and streptococcus. These bacterial infections can then be treated with antibiotics. Some bacterial infections, such as meningitis and pneumonia, will ultimately result in death if the use of antibiotics is neglected.http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/bacterialinfections.html Benefits of Good Bacteria --------------------------------------------------------------------- Foods with bacteria called probiotics can aid in digestion and ease digestive upset, by making the good bacteria that resides within the human colon multiply and flourish. Probiotics can be purchased over the counter in supplement form to add to various drinks or snacks, or can often be found in foods such as yogurt and miso.http://www.medicinenet.com/probiotics/article.htm Good bacteria which reside within the human body also helps to expedite the production of essential vitamins, which keep the body healthy and fully functional.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IekdfJ-7Zyk Bacteria is also beneficial to the environment as it helps to recycle nutrients. Every healthy ecosystem relies on bacteria to maintain balance.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IekdfJ-7Zyk Antibiotic Resistance --------------------------------------------------------------------- The overuse of antibiotics in treating infections can be harmful to individuals and the environment. Antibiotics can kill off the good bacteria which resides within the body that can allow bad bacteria to grow in its place. The misuse of antibiotics can actually cause other bacteria in the body to mutate and grow resistant to antibiotics in the future.http://www.cdc.gov/drugresistance/about.htmlSome viral infections can be confused with bacterial infections; since viral strains of infections cannot be cured with antibiotics, the misused antibiotics can actually cause other bacteria in the body to mutate and grow resistant to antibiotics in the future. The bacteria known as MRSA ("Staphylococcus aureus"), which is most often transmitted in hospitals or health care locations, has become drug resistant in recent years, and poses a significant health risk to certain individuals.http://www.cdc.gov/drugresistance/about.html Read more by visiting our page at: http://www.mahalo.com/good-bacteria-vs-bad-bacteria/

http://www.jaredsprobiotics.com – What's the difference between probiotics and antibiotics? The difference between antibiotics and probiotics is knowing which one supports a healthy, living gut, and which one believes no bacteria is the key to better health. #################### KEY HIGHLIGHTS ############### After watching the video, here are the 5 takeaways: 1. What is the reason most people take antibiotics? 2. Although antibiotics can destroy the toxins that compromise your immune system, it can also destroy these things that support your body as well. 3. What is the #1 thing people do that actually works against them when taking antibiotics, and why it would create future problems? 4. The easiest way to understand what antibiotics do and don't do is how a mayor of a small town would solve a string of burglaries and vandalism. 5. What is the most important thing you can do when taking antibiotics? #################### VIDEO SUMMARY ############### What is an antibiotic and why take one? Generally, it's because you have a weak immune system and are sick. So people take antibiotics, and although it kills the toxins, it kills the good things as well. This is important because the way that your body works is actually through supporting a strong gut and immune system through healthy, living bacteria. If you are sick, though, generally that means the bad bacteria are overpowering the good bacteria. So people take antibiotics, and it "wipes the slate clean". In theory, that sounds great, wipe out everything and start over from square one. But the lifestyle of most people does not allow them to do that. They'll just get right back into the routine of doing things that can break down their immune system Pretend that you are a small-town mayor of a peaceful community, and suddenly there's a rash of burglaries, vandalism, or robbery. What do you do as mayor? You ask questions, take notes, talk to witnesses. Then after gathering intel, you make a decision which might be throwing in jail one or more people. But what would happen if, after the burglaries, you decided to throw everyone in jail? You may have solved the problem because everyone is in jail. That's what happens when you take an antibiotic; you throw the bad ones and the good ones in jail But ultimately it leaves your immune system more susceptible to future problems because there are no good bacteria to fight the bad. The end result is that when you have a sickness or illness and have been recommended to take antibiotics, consider replenishing your gut with good bacteria at the same time so you can kill or destroy future invaders. How? Make sure that you take cultured foods or probiotics and strengthen that gut so that it can destroy those bad bacteria. #################### WHY THESE POINTS ARE IMPORTANT ############### I believe digestion and gut health will be the new frontier of health. If you want additional information about probiotics, digestion, foods, fermentation, or anything related to better gut health, make sure you head over and check out my website - http://www.jaredsprobiotics.com While on my website, you can read, comment, download, or share any of the articles I've written, podcasts I've participated in, or the press I've received about the importance between mental health, optimal nutrition, and your gut. Patients often come to the doctor’s office expecting to leave with an antibiotic, but doctors say if taken incorrectly antibiotics can cause more harm than good. Dr. Martin Sherman, a pediatrician with Lee Health, says antibiotics are a way of jump starting your immune system. “Antibiotics are designed to kill a type of germ. Those germs are bacteria that you can see under a microscope. But far more common than bacteria are the viruses.” Viruses like the common cold, the flu, or stomach virus, are different than bacterial infections and typically don’t spread to antibiotics. “There are many, many diseases that antibiotics are going to have no role in and getting them could possibly make it worse by getting a secondary complication from the antibiotic,” said Dr. Sherman. Bacterial infections like ear infections, impetigo, urinary tract infections, and strep throat, are typically treated with antibiotics. “Strep is still sensitive to group A penicillin. We treat that for two reasons. We treat that to make our patients feel better a little quicker because actually most strep throats will clear up on their own. But we treat it for a bigger reason something that we don’t see very much anymore and that is to prevent a secondary complication of that which is called rheumatic fever,” said Dr. Sherman. Antibiotics are a class of drugs designed to kill a particular organism. If a patient is prescribed an antibiotic, the dose is measured to be enough to kill the bacteria. “If you start taking an antibiotic and say it’s designed for ten days, because research has shown that you eradicate the infection in ten days, and you stop at 5 days. You might get better but you might select out more resistant germs. The stronger germs aren’t killed in five days. You killed the easy ones. You killed the weak ones if you would. But the strong ones are there and you stop it and then you set up a potential for a more difficult infection to treat,” said Dr. Sherman. Doctors say it’s important to only take an antibiotic if your doctor prescribes it and to finish the entire dose of antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor. We usually think of bacteria as being bad. The truth is, many bacteria are good, but antibiotics kill them all, which can lead to overgrowth of genuinely bad bacteria. This is especially true of bacteria found in the digestive tract, where an overgrowth of C Diff-- Clostridium difficile -- can cause severe diarrhea. A new study finds taking probiotics – which are extra doses of good bacteria -- can help prevent this antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Your Health Matters with Dr. Sandra Fryhofer is a weekly series offering useful and timely information on health and well-being. Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, MD, MACP, FRCP is a board certified doctor of internal medicine in Atlanta and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. How to perform douche: https://youtu.be/mIxA5ECCTG8 When the odor is BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) Watch this: https://youtu.be/AaRinLuefmA Why not take an antibiotic? A common scenario is when a woman gets a BV infection, then takes a broad spectrum antibiotic that kills ALL bacteria- good and bad. This “cures” the BV, but since the beneficial bacteria are wiped out, yeast can grow out of control. You then take an antifungal medication, which cures the yeast, but since nothing has been done to replenish the healthy vaginal bacteria, some bad ones start to multiply again, resulting in another bacterial infection. The cycle repeats itself, and can be very hard to break. For more literature and resources supporting and advocating the use of L. Acidophilus douche to treat BV see links below: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/17532736/ https://patient.info/forums/discuss/how-i-cured-my-bv--259878 https://www.earthclinic.com/mobile/bacterial-vaginosis/acidophilus.html http://www.cycleharmony.com/remedies/vaginal-discharge-or-infections/how-to-cure-bacteria-vaginosis-bv Chef Mama Rosa also has wonderful ideas similar regarding BV-https://youtu.be/yjYznXXnYH8 (however I have not tried these but I thought it could be helpful) 1.Please do not use the douche if you have reason to believe you are pregnant or have an STD. 2. If you are uncomfortable douching you can use a L. Acidophilus dipped tampon for 7 days as an alternative to treat the bacteria. 3.Do not use the douche if you have a birth control implant. There is conflicting information regarding the safety of douching with a birth control implant. So to err on the side of safety don’t recommend this before speaking with your doctor. 4. I am not a health care professional of any sort. I only share with you my experiences and what I found has worked for me individually. 5. If you are a minor please get permission from your parent/guardian before performing. 6. To perform, please fill douche halfway with water then the rest with the acidophilus powder of 3-5 probiotic capsules. 7. Eat probiotic rich foods. I teach you how to make homemade yogurt here: https://youtu.be/mUZow3Qg1mk 8.Only perform the douche 1 x a day for 7 days. 9. Use 2 cups of Bragg’s ACV in your bath water and soak for at LEAST 30 min for 7 days 10. Please consult a physician if you have never used essential oils before. Typically if you have plant allergies then you are allergic to essential oils. 11. Please do a skin test on the essential oils on you inner wrist before using in your bath. If it irritates your skin, do not use it. 12. Please choose a quality probiotic that does not contain any “other ingredients” aside from that of the vegetable capsule. Milk, insulin, etc...should not be used in your vagina. 13. If you do not have access to a bathtub, use a diaper rag (you can pick up from Walmart) soak in apple cider vinegar and a drop of each essential oil and hold on your vagina for 30 min. Antibiotics side effects | antibiotics good or bad A new research shows that the body's microbes are effective in maintaining immune cells and killing certain oral infections. A team of researchers at Case Western Reserve University found that antibiotics actually kill the "good" bacteria, keeping infection and inflammation at bay. Scientists have long known that overuse of antibiotics can do more harm than good. For example, overuse can cause antibiotic resistance. But research into this phenomenon in oral health was uncharted territory. Researchers examined "resident" bacteria, their fatty acids and their effect on certain types of white blood cells that combat infections in the mouth. Specifically, they looked at the "short-term maintenance" of Tregs and Th-17 cells in fighting fungal infections, such as Candida, in a laboratory setting. They found that those natural defenses were very effective in reducing infection and unwanted inflammation and antibiotics can prevent such natural defenses. "We set out to find out what happens when you don't have bacteria to fight a fungal infection," said Pushpa Pandiyan, a researcher. "What we found was that antibiotics can kill short-chain fatty acids produced by body's own good bacteria. We have good bacteria doing good work every day, why kill them. As is the case with many infections, if you leave them alone, they will leave on their own." Pandiyan said that the study could have broader implications on the protective effects of "resident microbiota" in other types of infections. The findings appeared in the Journal of Frontiers in Microbiology. https://www.aninews.in/news/health/antibiotics-do-more-harm-than-good201809260510150001/
