How much dose of an antibiotic is sufficient for Strep Throat? - Dr. Sriram Nathan
Amoxicillin is oral penicillin group of antibiotics, which was previously used in the treatment of streptococcal infection or throat infection. In any case we have seen that any infection of the nose, throat, where we see current signs of infection. The best treatment is something to do as culture and sensitivity. Culture and sensitivity means that the culture of bacteria which is there is identified and the proper antibiotic is identified after the proper strain of the bacteria is identified. Amoxicillin which was used previously in the dosage of 500 mg for three times a day for a period of 5 to 7 days is recently not found to be that effective in the recent times. We now use a combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, which is more effective but in any case if you have a streptococcal infection, the best thing is to go for a culture and sensitivity, get the bacteria and get confirmed that it is streptococcal infection, see the sensitivity of that particular antibiotic in concurrence with your ENT doctor and start the proper treatment.

Preparing Ampicillin and Gentamicin for Injection - Newborn Care Series
By Global Health Media Project. Download link: http://globalhealthmedia.org/videos/ Young infants, less than 2 months old, who have any sign of critical illness should be referred to a hospital urgently. Infection progresses rapidly in young babies. Be sure to give the first doses of ampicillin and gentamicin before the family leaves. This video shows how to prepare and draw up ampicillin and gentamicin for injection. The intended audience is frontline health workers in the developing world. Copyright © 2016, Global Health Media Project Script follows: Preparing Ampicillin and Gentamicin for Injection Young infants, less than 2 months old, who have any sign of critical illness should be referred to a hospital urgently. Infection progresses rapidly in young babies. Be sure to give the first doses of ampicillin and gentamicin before the family leaves. This can save the baby’s life. This video will show how to prepare and draw up ampicillin and gentamicin for injection. Doses for babies are based on the baby’s weight. Start by getting an accurate weight. The baby weighs 3.2 kilos. Wash your hands. Then, gather your supplies: gentamicin, ampicillin and sterile water for injection, a sterile syringe and needle for mixing the ampicillin, cotton balls, and 2 smaller sterile needles and syringes to give the injections. Check that the medicines have not expired. Gentamicin is available in several strengths. Be sure to double check the concentration before you draw up the dose. There is no need to dilute any of the products. The 80 milligrams per 2 milliliter concentration is preferred. The smaller volume is less painful for the baby. The dosage chart shows that our 3.2 kilo baby needs 0.4 milliliters of this concentration. A 1-milliliter syringe will help your accuracy with the small dose. Now draw up the medicine. First draw air into the syringe equal to the dose you need. Then, inject the air into the vial. Turn it upside down keeping the tip of the needle in the fluid. If you’ve drawn bubbles into the syringe push the plunger back and forth to return them to the vial. Drawing up your dose is easy because the air you added to the vial counteracts the vacuum. Now tap the syringe to let any remaining bubbles rise to the top and gently push the plunger to clear them. Check that you have the right dose of 0.4 milliliters. Cap the needle with the one-handed method to avoid a finger prick. If you’re using an ampule instead of a vial, wrap the neck in gauze to protect your hand and snap off the top. Put the needle carefully into the opening to draw up the medicine. Now prepare ampicillin: follow the directions on the bottle to prepare the medicine. Draw up 1.8 milliliters of sterile water and add it to the 500 milligram bottle of ampicillin. Shake the bottle to mix the powder and water until it’s completely dissolved. The baby will need 0.6 milliliters of ampicillin. Draw 0.6 milliliters of air into the syringe. Then, inject it into the vial. Turn it upside down. Keeping the needle in the fluid, draw up your dose. Notice the bubbles being returned back to the vial before removing the syringe. Now tap the syringe to clear the remaining bubbles and gently push the plunger to remove the air. There’s your dose of 0.6 milliliters. Remember: An accurate weight will ensure an accurate dose for the sick baby. Use a dosage chart to save time and reduce math errors. Follow the 5 rights of medicine usage: give the right medicine at the right dose by the right route at the right time, to the right baby.

Iodine dosages
Dr. Mark Sircus explains the differences in dosing with Nascent and Lugol's iodine in adults and children and iodine's use in bringing up deficient levels as well as in treating infections, cancers and other ilnesses. http://drsircus.com/medicine/iodine/iodine-dosages ***Transcription*** The dosages depend on how you use it and the substance type – there is Lugol which has been around for 150 years, which is now in a lower concentration in United States because of certain laws that were passed, but you can get 2% Iodine, Lugol´s Iodine you can get 7% and you can even get as high as 15%. Whenever you use Iodine, no matter what Iodine you use – transdermally, painting in the skin – you have to be a little sensitive that sometimes it can burn the skin. Most often it does not, but you have to watch for skin reactions, drying out of the skin. I recommend for women with breast cancer to paint their breasts with Iodine. Oral dosages vary depending on where you live, your age, your size. Today in the northern hemisphere we do have a problem with radioactive iodine, if your thyroid is empty, running deficient on Iodine it will be a sponge for the radioactive type so it is really important today to supplement with Iodine, it is essential. If you live in the interior, away from the sea, also is very important, you have less iodine, exposed to less iodine in the environment. With the Nascent Iodine I recommend, which is in the atomic form, which is the form that the thyroid needs to create the thyroid hormones, it does not have to break down the molecular iodine which is Lugols or the pill forms, solid forms of Iodine. With the Nascent Iodine, in the bottle it says 3 drops to 5 drops, I believe 3 times a day. For my 3 years old I have given up to 15 to 20 drops at a time. You can take Iodine, start out with, if it is a child with an infection, instead of antibiotics, the Iodine is always going to be safer than an antibiotic. Iodine will not destroy and kill the healthy bacteria in the intestines. The only reaction normally is a detoxification, if a person is very, very toxic and very, very deficient. So with children and basically for basic supplementation and a minimal level in the northern hemisphere today I probably would be talking about 30 drops a day of the Nascent. Depending on the Lugol, maybe the same. Some Lugols, depending on the concentration, you will be taking less Lugol than Nascent. In treatment of cancer, patients usually go for 25mg up to 50mg and as high as a 100mg a day. This is what these Iodine doctors are suggesting. A hundred years ago the doctors used to go even higher, much higher, actually. So we are still in a very comfortable range. With children I would not hesitate when a child has a high fever and has an infection to do 10 or 15 drops of Nascent Iodine every 2 or 3 hours. The more you break up the dosage the more you can actually take orally in a very comfortable way for the body. In the cancer protocol we are talking about dosing with all the different items every 2 or 3 hours.

CURE CHRONIC UTIs Naturally - For Kids & Adults

Anybody with any health complaints should seek the care and consultation of an appropriately licensed health care practitioner. No attempt should be made to use any information provided here as a form of treatment for any specific condition without approval and guidance of a medical professional. ******************************************************** My poor daughter already had numerous UTIs years previously and we finally had to put her on a 6-month, low dose antibiotic (MUCH to my dismay) just to get rid of them! The antibiotic did get rid of the UTIs, but it caused a whole host of other equally serious problems. So when her UTIs started coming back, I was bound and determined to find another cure for them. And I did! (Check out Dr. Scott’s UTI cures video linked below). I learned that chronic Urinary Tract Infections might be caused by biofilms. Biofilms are a protective coating that surrounds the virus and protects it from allowing your immune system to destroy it! OUR PROTOCOL Keep in mind that this protocol I developed by SLOWLY easing my daughter into each supplement as described in the video above to make sure she had no contraindications along the way. I SLOWLY increased the dosage – one pill at a time – to make sure that she was okay with every dose along the way and to determine the lowest yet most effective dosage for her. IF YOU CHOOSE TO FOLLOW THIS SAME PROTOCOL BE SURE TO:  Consult your naturopathic doctor  Start with the lowest dosage and increase SLOWLY  Take with food to avoid nausea for high doses 1. REMOVE ALL SUGAR FROM DIET This is usually the most difficult part to do, but sugar feeds infection, so if you want to get rid of an infection, you MUST get rid of the sugar. This includes fruit, processed foods (such as ketchup and white breads, which convert into sugar in the body). Everybody is different, so play with what works, but if you want to get serious about getting rid of the infection, you need to eliminate sugar. 2. 5g of D-MANNOSE 1x per day Often times, D-Mannose alone will kill the infection once sugar is taken out of the equation. But if you want to kill it fast or not wait to see if your UTI is due to biofilms, I have found that the next two supplements are essential. 3. 600mg of TURMERIC 2-3x per day Make sure the supplement you purchase has the highest percentage of CURCUMIN possible (the one I use has 95%). Curcumin is the powerhouse in this supplement. This amazing little root strips down those biofilms that sometimes coat the infection and make it nearly impossible for it to be destroyed. Once the biofilms are stripped away, your immune system can come in and obliterate that nasty UTI. 4. 430mg Olive Leaf Extract + 370mg Organic Olive Leaf Make sure the supplement you purchase has the highest percentage of OLEUROPEIN possible (the one I use has 18%). Oleuropein is the powerhouse in this supplement. The one I purchase has both the extract and regular olive leaf. Others don’t. What is important is the Oleuropein. Many supplements have very little to none, so check this carefully. The olive leaf is a natural antibiotic that will go in and destroy your urinary tract infection. 5. CONTINUE FOR 3 DAYS AFTER ALL PAIN IS GONE This means NO SUGAR and continuing to take the pills for 3 full days after you no longer experience any pain (which should be within 2-8 hours from first dosage). Your body may be different, but anything less than 3 full days always results in a relapse for my daughter. Get to know your own body. Maybe you can get away with fewer days or maybe you’ll need more. Best of luck! I truly hope that his remedy will help those who are suffering from chronic UTIs! I know all too well how despairing it can be. It’s great to finally have a cure! SPECIAL THANKS to Dr. Scott for this incredible information!! Although I have modified the remedy as he suggested in the video linked below, without the information about biofilms and the powerhouse remedies of Turmeric and Olive Leaf Extract, we would still be battling these chronic UTIs and would have had to go to drastic measures to get rid of the one UTI she had for an entire month! Thank you, Dr. Scott for such valuable information!! PLEASE CHECK OUT HIS VIDEOS HERE FOR MORE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRjMuvHvvcU

This app should prove invaluable to all general practitioners, physicians, junior doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other medical staff and healthcare professionals working within primary care. It contains up-to-date antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal and other antimicrobial management guidelines for the infections commonly encountered in adults and children. GP Antibiotics includes guidance for central nervous system, genital tract, gastro-intestinal, HIV, immunocompromised, lower respiratory tract, skin/ soft tissue, tropical, upper respiratory tract and urinary tract infections in adults and children. Doses, frequencies, durations of treatment, first-line, second-line and penicillin allergic options are provided. Our aim is to improve the provision of healthcare. Our app collects anonymous usage data to help us improve the guidelines and the app. We are also interested on the global usage of antibiotics and the relationship with antibiotic resistance. If you do not want the app to collect anonymous usage data, this can be easily disabled within the app's preferences. GP Antibiotics is an official collaboration between: - Dr Andrew Seaton, infectious diseases consultant at the NHS Glasgow Brownlee Centre for Infectious and Communicable Diseases, and the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde prescribing team WITH - Dr Samuel Leighton, a foundation junior doctor with an interest in app development, and Mr Michael Park, professional software developer both at the independent Scottish medical app developers Polwarth Limited

How to Use Ear Drops Properly
MEDICATION USAGE INSTRUCTIONS 1. Wash your hands well with soap and water. 2. Warm the eardrop bottle by holding it in the palm of your hand for a few minutes. This will make the eardrops more comfortable to instill. 3. If instructed by your pharmacist or doctor, gently shake the bottle for 10 seconds. 4. Remove the cap or dropper from the ear drop bottle. Make sure nothing touches it or the tip of the container. 5a. Tilt your head to one side, or lie down with the affected ear facing up. 5b. For adults or children over three, gently pull the top of the ear upward and backward. 5c. For children under three, gently pull the bottom of the ear back and down. This will straighten the ear canal. 6. Instill the correct number of drops in your ear, as instructed on your prescription label. Ensure the dropper or the tip of the container does not touch the ear or other surfaces, to avoid contamination. 7. Keep your ear tilted up for three to five minutes. 8. Replace and tighten the cap or dropper right away. Make sure not to touch the tip of the container or the dropper. 9. Wash your hands to remove any medication. 10. If you are instilling drops into both ears, wait 5-10 minutes between ears to allow the ear drops to run into the ear canal. *Always follow the directions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. These instructions are meant to be a general guideline. Check with your pharmacist if you have any questions.

But if you’re stuck with the old-fashioned, bad-tasting kind, here’s how to make the medicine go down. Step 1: Measure out medicine Have the correct measured dose of medicine ready in an eyedropper or medicine syringe. Tip Some bunny owners like to coat the filled eyedropper or syringe with mashed banana or applesauce once it’s filled. This means a nice taste for the bunny—on the outside of the syringe, at least! Step 2: Prepare after-medication treat Stash an after-medication treat, like a raisin or a small piece of apple, in a convenient spot so you can get to it as soon as you’re done. Tip Many pet medications must be shaken before they’re used. Check the label on the bottle to be sure. Step 3: Arrange your seat Arrange your chair, bench, or stool in the place you plan to dose Bun-bun. Tip Since you’ll probably need to give your rabbit her medicine over the course of several days, leave the chair in place so she won’t get suspicious every time she sees you setting up. Step 4: Pick up rabbit Pick up the bunny as calmly as you can, speaking soothingly while you do. Wrap her tightly in the towel—think 'bunny burrito'—so that she can’t get her legs free to kick or scramble around. Step 5: Take a seat Take a seat, both of you! Sit down on the chair, stool, or bench with the bunny held firmly on your lap. Step 6: Hold rabbit firmly Tucking the rabbit firmly under one arm, hold her against your body. If you’re right-handed, use your left arm. If you’re left-handed, use your right arm. Step 7: Grip rabbit’s head With the hand that’s holding the bunny, grip her head. Use your thumb to pry her lips open. Keep holding her against your body so she won’t be able to back away from the medicine. Tip Continue speaking soothingly throughout the procedure. At least it may help calm you down. Step 8: Insert eyedropper or syringe in rabbit’s mouth Still, gripping the bunny’s head and holding open her lips, use your other hand to slide the filled eyedropper or syringe into her mouth. Always slide it in from the side, where a rabbit’s teeth won’t get in the way. Step 9: Squirt medicine Squirt the medicine as far back into the bunny’s throat as you can. Hold her mouth closed for a few seconds. Step 10: Expose treat Show the rabbit her treat before you place her carefully on the floor and remove the towel. If she’s too mad to stick around, leave the treat on the floor—she’ll come back for it. Step 11: Take heart It would be great if rabbits knew you were doing this all for their own good, but take heart. The treatments will soon be over, and after a few days your bunny won’t remember what you put her through. Did You Know? A five-pound rabbit drinks as much water as a twenty-pound dog.
