How to use Flash Cards | How to Study | Flashcards Study Tips

05:50
Hello Socratica Friends! We're here to help you be a Great Student. In this episode, we learn about the best way to use FLASH CARDS. Flash cards are a great tool to use anytime you need to memorize facts, fast. They're great for drilling vocabulary terms, learning dates in history...so many uses. The best thing about flash cards is that they help you figure out what you know, and what you don’t know. And although this may be uncomfortable, the best way to master a subject is to focus on what you DON’T know! In this video, we'll show you how we use flash cards, using an important technique known as "spaced repetition." Basically, don't try to cram in all your studying in one go! Make sure you break it up over a couple of days at least, with breaks in between. Try using flashcards following the Pomodoro method! Two fantastic techniques working together to help you be a Great Student. We recommend making flashcards the old fashioned way - with pen and paper, but if you'd like to use an app on your phone, we like Anki. Do you have a different method of studying with flash cards? Why the US doesn’t use metric (even though it does) | Did You Know?

06:51
It's a weighty issue. Watch more from the Did You Know? series ►► https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn2RjxYNpcawct77myxG-2JGptju1-Hx0 Pretty much every country in the world uses the metric system for measurement — having a universal system would be like having a common language across the world, making it easier to communicate, trade and invest. So why doesn’t the US want to commit to the metric system? Technically, it already has — it’s officially the “preferred system of weights and measures for United States trade and commerce”. But the change has never been made compulsory for everyone, so most of the country continues to use the imperial system. 1st Amendment Violation by Roswell, GA Mayor?

03:22
Video Footage by Positively Roswell https://positivelyroswell.org On August 9, the mayor of Roswell announced a 130+ court tennis complex was to be built be on top of a densely wooded green-space called Big Creek - an established, active, and popular park for mountain bikers, hikers, and families. When the news broke, the public was outraged and began protesting to save the park. Despite their success saving the park, there was still lingering outrage over the lack of transparency by the newly elected mayor who ran on a platform of "transparency". At the city hall meeting on August 13, 2018, the protestors (in red shirts) were instructed not to address the Big Creek topic during open-comments. A citizen took the floor and addressed a specific item on the agenda and began to explain why he couldn't support it due to the lack of council and mayoral transparency exhibited in the Big Creek topic. He was not directly addressing the tennis facility - simply explaining why he couldn't support an item on the agenda. Instead of calmly saying "thank you for your feedback", the mayor had him removed by security and scolded the audience. Is this a constitutional violation of the 1st Amendment?

knowledge Idioms | online idiom classes day -5 | English Idioms on knowledge | idioms for ssc

05:25
i have discussed some common idioms based on knowledge 1: Knowledge is power The more someone knows, the more equipped that person is. “Many people enroll in college under the assumption that knowledge is power.” “Knowing that knowledge is power, both generals studied each other.” 2: Know the ropes, learn the ropes This term has a maritime history; sailors adept at their trade knew the various ways to tie knots. Someone who “knows the ropes” is well-acquainted with some topic. “Gertie really knows the ropes when it comes to decorating.” “I can’t work in that industry until I learn the ropes.” 3: Can’t make heads or tails of it Failing to understand or confused about something. “Can you read this? I can’t make heads or tails of it.” “I can’t make heads or tails of Algebra.” 4: Burning the midnight oil, pull an all-nighter Used by students to indicate late night/all night studies. “There’s a test tomorrow, so I’m burning the midnight oil.” “She can’t come with, she’s pulling an all-nighter.” 5: Know something backwards and forwards (or inside out), know the ins and outs To be an expert or intimately familiar with something. “Murray knows horse racing inside out.” “I need to take Bob with; he knows the ins and outs of attending conventions.” 6: Doing your homework While it can be literal, this idiom can also mean studying and researching any topic. “Peggy’s new chickens seem happy; she really did her homework on how to care for them.” “Phil did his homework before he chose a college. It took him a year to pick one.” 7: Under one’s belt Used to refer to an experience, accomplishment, or body of wisdom one has acquired. “I have 40 years of cheeseburgers under my belt, but I never tasted one that good.” “With a lifetime of horse breeding under his belt, he knew the colt could be a champion.” 8: Two heads are better than one, put our heads together The idea that more than one mind working on a problem will solve it faster. “Come help me with this puzzle; two heads are better than one.” “An emergency meeting has been called so we can put our heads together on this issue.” 9: Pick his brain To obtain ideas or information from someone. “I need to pick Bill’s brain about our camping trip.” “Frank really picked my brain–I guess he’s having problems getting his hens to lay.” 10: Great minds think alike In the theory that very intelligent people tend to have the same ideas at the same time, this playful idiom congratulates the other person for being as smart as the speaker. “You are heading to Plainfield, too? Great minds think alike!” “Phyllis and Emma both decided to plant gardens–great minds think alike.” knowledge Idioms | online idiom classes day -4 | English Idioms on knowledge | idioms for ssc https://youtu.be/zb04oWK1Yio

TEDxHonolulu - Sean Briel & Daniel Nash - Changing Perceptions of Math

18:00
Changing Perceptions of Math by Teaching Students to Teach Themselves Sean After growing up in Europe and completing his undergraduate education at Southern Methodist University, Sean accepted an offer from Teach For America (TFA) to be a High School Math teacher in Hawai'i. After finishing his two-year commitment to TFA and his master's degree at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, his passion convinced him to stay on at Waipahu High School despite other opportunities. This passion continues to inspire him as he teams up with Dan Nash to reshape the very perceptions of how people learn. Daniel While studying Mathematics at Michigan State University, Daniel worked on the Undergraduate Mathematics Curriculum Committee, did research for the Biological Mathematics program, and served as a teaching assistant for the Emerging Scholars Mathematics program. As a Math instructor at Waipahu High School, Daniel continues to collaborate with fellow Math teacher Sean Briel on reshaping the way Math is learned and taught. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Homeostasis is the process by which a nearly stable internal environment is maintained in the body so that cellular metabolic functions can proceed at maximum efficiency. While tutoring for the University of Florida, I would act as both a walk-in tutor and a private tutor. My specialization in walk-in tutoring lied in college-level statistics; there were even times graduate-level students would seek out help in statistics during my walk-in tutoring hours. During private hours, I would work with students one-on-one, where I would work out problems with them, encourage them to use critical thinking, and develop study plans to best fit their individual characteristics. I would continue to work as a tutor for my university for the next 2 and a half years. During my time outside of the University of Florida Teaching Center, I would also act as an Organic Chemistry Teaching Assistant for my previous Organic Chemistry professor. As an Organic Chemistry Teaching Assistant, I would assist students who were currently enrolled in the class if they had any questions in regards to the lectures or assignments. Working as an Organic Chemistry Teaching Assistant also facilitated my techniques and knowledge as a private tutor for the Teaching Center. My passion for tutoring and educating others does not just apply to academics as well. During my time at the University of Florida, I also acted as an Emergency Medicine Scribe at an adjacent city. While acting as a scribe for a local emergency department, I was eventually promoted to working as an Emergency Medical Scribe Trainer. As a trainer, I would educate and teach new, in-coming hires about the Emergency Medical Record we used in our department. Further, I educated them about proper clinical documentation as well as how to appropriately enter procedures, consult notes, and discharge summaries. EXTRACURRICULAR INTERESTS I would like to consider myself a goal-oriented individual. Not only do I set a high standard for myself, but I also have a high standards of others. I enjoy reading and exercising regularly; I have recently starting doing my best to monitor my daily nutrition and track my exercise progress. Since graduating I have made a consistent effort in reading each day; some of my favorite books that I have read since graduating include “The Untethered Soul,” “Radiance,” and “The Mindfulness Solution.” I also have a passion for traveling. After graduating, I was meant to go to medical school. However, after realizing that it wasn’t the right time for me to attend professional school, I decided to defer my acceptance. Electrolytic Cell | Chemistry | Chegg Tutors

05:06
An electrolytic cell is an instrument developed to decompose compounds using electrical energy. The most important use of an electrolytic cell is to split water into hydrogen gas and oxygen gas. An electrolytic cell consists of two electrodes (an anode and a cathode) and an electrolyte solution. An electrical charge is applied to the system and ions flow within the electrolyte solution while redox reactions occur at the electrodes. Although it contains very similar components, an electrolytic cell is different from a galvanic cell or battery. In fact, an electrolytic cell can be thought of as the opposite of a galvanic cell, in which chemical energy is converted into electrical energy. ---------- Chemistry tutoring on Chegg Tutors Learn about Chemistry terms like Electrolytic Cell on Chegg Tutors. Instead, I became TEFL-certified and intend on traveling to Spain, where I will be teaching English as a foreign language. Want to book a private lesson with Scott K.? Naegele's Rule Example with Practice Questions for Maternity Nursing NCLEX Review (Nagele's Rule)

07:38
Naegele's rule example with practice questions for maternity nursing NCLEX review. This maternity lecture will help you learn how to calculate an estimated delivery date (EDD) using Nagele's Rule. Naegele's rule works best for women who have a 28 day cycle and is based on the typical 280 day gestation (40 weeks) period. The date calculated with Naegele's Rule is just an estimate for expected delivery date. When solving for an EDD with Nagele's Rule it is important to remember the months that have 30 (thirty) days vs. 31 (thirty-one) days, and of course, February has 28 days. Always give February 28 days (regardless of leap year) to avoid confusion. The months with 30 days are September, April, June, and November while the other months are 31 days. Don't forget to take the practice quizzes that will test you on Nagele's Rule. Math Rap...Auston and Noah GMS 6th grade math project

02:11
This Rap Is....Math Let's do a rap 'bout some plus and minus, Cover up math like a blanket of Linus. 2 plus 2 always equals four, Sounds like quarts, in which you pour. How long will it take a train, Travelin' 80 from here to Maine? Let's multiply to get the number, Not like a 2 by 4 on the lumber. One day I'll know ge-ome-try, But now I'll stick to 5 plus 3. Square roots and long di-vi-sion, Ain't got time, I'm watchin' television. 3 to the 5 and subtract the seven, That leaves one and I'm in Heaven. I can't stop countin' 'cause I don't play, Teacher gonna see that I need an A. Always remember to choose the right path Things won't add up if you don't know math The human race would eventually die If they found they couldn't multiply How could you set things aside If you don't know how to divide How could things be taken back If you never learn how to subtract If you know a half is one over two Four over eight shouldn't fool you If you know a quarter is one over four To get a dollar, you'd know you need more If mathematical formulas make you want to sigh Just remember this - you can't eat Pi You don't want to be the one to go "duh" when your friends bring up Al-ge-bra. Who wants to be the one to mangle the formula for that obtuse angle Who wants to wake up at dawn trying to figure out the area of a cone Do you know how you would fare if asked to find the area of a square 90 degrees and I'm in the corner, Watch the trajectory of a long ball homer. Thinkin' now of a real prime number, As I drift into a mathematic slumber.

2018 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Artificial Intelligence

02:02:21
Isaac Asimov’s famous Three Laws of Robotics might be seen as early safeguards for our reliance on artificial intelligence, but as Alexa guides our homes and automated cars replace human drivers, are those Three Laws enough? Neil deGrasse Tyson, Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium, hosts and moderates a lively discussion about how A.I. is opening doors to limitless possibilities, and if we’re ready for them. The 2018 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate took place at the Museum on February, 13, 2018. For a full transcript of this debate, visit: https://www.amnh.org/explore/amnh.tv Listen to a podcast version on our blog: https://www.amnh.org/explore/news-blogs/podcasts/2018-isaac-asimov-memorial-debate-artificial-intelligence Or search for Science@AMNH on iTunes, Soundcloud, or wherever you get your podcasts. 2018 Asimov Panelists: John Giannandrea Senior Vice President of Engineering, Google Helen Greiner Co-Founder, iRobot; Founder, CyPhy Works Ruchir Puri Chief Architect, IBM Watson Max Tegmark Professor of Physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; President, Future of Life Institute Michael P.
