This video was shared at the 2015 Boston Investment Conference, benefiting Boston CHildren's Hospital. Each year, conference proceeds benefit a new research initiative. This year, funds will establish the Laboratory for Molecular Pediatric Pathology (LaMPP), reshaping the future of children with cancer. Through the creation of a molecular profiling lab, pathologists will pinpoint the molecular drivers in each child’s tumor, and use that information to perfect diagnosis and treatment. Families will receive quicker, more accurate diagnoses, treatments will be targeted for better outcomes, and children will be spared devastating side effects. As the #1 cancer care facility backed by an unmatched research program, Boston Children’s is poised to lead this new paradigm in pediatrics.

A little girl called Roxanne recently expressed to us a wish to make a film to help other children undergoing treatment for cancer. So we invited a small group of Momentum children to get together for a special ‘Circle Time’. We asked them to share some of their experiences whilst they were ill. We hope it will be useful for both sick children, or their friends and family members, to understand what it is like to be diagnosed with cancer and the ‘journey’ to recovery.

Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. Globally there are more than 250,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year. Let's raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer and the fact that it only gets 4% of cancer research funding. I have no rights to the music but it has a good message for those children who are fighting against cancer.

Halloween is for kids and cancer patients! There is a joy that overflows from a child when asked, “What do you want to be for Halloween”. With its endless possibilities to express who they want to become, who they idolize. As a cancer patient, the opportunity returns. It is a time to embrace the changes, the baldness, the scars. A time to laugh at the hand you have been dealt. It is a day off from taking CANCER seriously. It is a time to take charge of YOUR identity, even if it is just for a day. Halloween 2014 -a week after my double mastectomy- there was no party but there was an appointment to remove my final drain bag. Circumstance made my costume…I was the Bride of Frankenstein, cut up and put back together. My amazing husband dressed as Dr. Frankenstein to support my crazy. It brought joy to what could have been an otherwise traumatizing situation. I had not seen my bare chest until that appointment and when I did my first thought was “What a FUCKING badass”. It set the tone for my journey to follow. Did you dress up during your treatment? Share what you were. Comment below.
