How to Pressurise a Jayco Swan - Stop Dust Getting inside a Caravan

03:45
This video is from our trip down the hay river track and Simpson desert 2013 with our jayco swan, Before we left I did a few modification to the van to ensure it's safe return. To stop the dust from entering the van I used a safari snorkel ram head on the roof of the van this is connected to 90mm down pipe inside the van, I also used the ARB socks on the ram head and had some filter foam inside the 90mm pipe for added filtration, I also had two dust covers made, one for vents and hot water system and the other for the door, they worked great. We also took a 12volt Makita air blower with us, we would blow the dust from the seals of the van and truck before opening it, with the ram head you will prevent dust from entering the van, but you still have it on the outside, so buy a blower to take with you, it worked a treat. Our jayco swan which is notorious for getting dust in had none, but my mates UEV490 with a fan on the side was covered in dust, the fan system may seem good but it's useless. I have also towed my expanda to cape York and over the gibb river road, we had the vent on the roof that just pushes up, it was good but nowhere near as good as using the ram head with the socks. Your trip can be dust free by easily doing this to any camper trailer or caravan before leaving. I also did a lot of under body protection to this van to prevent damage to water pipes etc, we have simplicity suspension that works a treat, I personally wouldn't buy a van without it. On all dirt roads we let our tyres down to between 24-28psi, then once on the Simpson desert we let them down to 15psi, had no problems.

How To Remove Clean and Replace Shimano Hollowtech 2 Crankset

07:25
This video shows you how to remove clean and refit your crankset for a road bike, mine is a shimano hollowtech 2 crankset and my left arm crank is a stages power meter, but if you don't have a stages fitted then it is the same way to remove the standard arm, the bolts that holds it on are the same . I remove and clean mine about every 6-12 months this helps to keep the seals clean on the bottom bracket stopping any big build up of road grime. When doing the cleaning part do not use any degreasers especially around the bottom bracket as it may damage the seals. If you keep your bike well maintained it will feel better when out cycling on rides and help to prolong the life of the bike and any moving parts. If you are going to do any of your own bike maintenance or repairs you should invest in a good tool set it will make the job a lot easier and reduces the risk of any damage being caused.

11-32 10 speed Works Fine With Di2 Ultegra Short Cage Derailleur

06:00
I have been running an 11-28 Shimano 10 speed rear cassette and wanted to go to an 11-32 for some of the routes we do with more hills. I run di2 with a short cage set up the rear derailleur works fine with the 11-28 but everyone you speak to says you can't run the 11-32 so I thought I would get one and see for myself. The new rear cassette is a sram PG 1070 11-32 10 speed it's the only one you can get that comes in the 11-32, it fits fine with no issues at all and runs on the Ultegra di2 fine as well. I don't see what the fuss is about I can honestly say it works and I haven't adjusted any of the screws including the B screw. I will now test this out on the weekend and see how well the 11-32 is on the hills. The sram PG1070 11-32 was $102 from amazon.

Recovery Rides Why Bother Doing Them Why Not Just Have a Day Off

03:48
Recovery rides are an important part of cycling if you are training for a big race or trying to increase power on the bike. Without recoveries your wasting your time doing any training at all. If you don't give your body proper time to repair and re-build you want get faster fitter more powerful on the bike all you'll do is get slower and weaker. Recovery bike rides are about taking it easy sitting in zone 1 and doing no efforts at all, in this ride for me i only averaged 103 watts for the entire ride and my heart rate average was 86bpm. Active recovery rides are better for cyclists that do a lot of high intensity rides, for beginners it's best to have complete rest days until you have built up to the point where your doing more intense workouts. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk. Please be reminded i am not a personal trainer this is just my workout routine you should consult a personal trainer to obtain a proper workout for what you want to achieve. Garmin Virb Elite Mounting Bracket Mod - Handle Bar Mount + Short Review

06:44
Garmin virb elite bike action camera. I like the camera but didn't like the fact that garmin don't supply a mounting bracket for road bikes from the box. the bracket that you can use to mount it to the bike handlebars is just to big and bulky and the same goes for the Go-Pro bracket that I used, don't waste your money on those brackets just buy the 510 edge mounting bracket and stick the virb bracket to that. The handle bar is going to be the place most will want to mount their Virb to and Garmin should have thought a bit more about this I think.

How to Fix a Flat Bike Tyre without a Puncture Repair Kit Fast.

07:40
This video will show you how to repair a road bike tyre fast without the use of a puncture repair kit. I only ever carry one spare inner tube with me when riding my bike but if you get a second flat tire and you don't have a repair kit or the time to repair the inner tube as you may be in a race, then you need a quick and easy fix. To repair a tire is easy but to do it under pressure is a bit harder so it's best to do some practice especially if you are entering a race because you don't want to be spending to much time repairing flats. If you spend some time practicing you can be back on the road again in a few short minutes not 20.

Cycling Tips: Riding with High or Low Cadence Whats Best.

06:54
This is a section of road on one of our rides where we get to pick up some speed and hold a good pace on the bike with a smooth cadence while holding the power down. Cycling to a high or low cadence is something that each cyclist needs to work out for themselves, i find that holding a higher cadence allows me to go for longer without getting fatigued, when i go on a bike ride i try to keep my average cadence over 90 this way my legs don't build up with lactic acid to quickly. I mainly go with what my power meter is saying but i also like to see my cadence on the screen of my Garmin 510 edge, so the only readings i have on screen is Power and Cadence. If you don't have a power meter then you may want to go with your heart rate so understanding you zones is important and you can combine this with your cadence to get you to a good average speed, but a power meter is the best way to measure efforts when cycling. It's also important to take the time to look at your data that you upload to Strava or Garmin, by understanding your data reading you will be able to gain a good idea of the sort of zones you can hold whether your using a power meter or going on heart rate.

Can Cyclists Over 50 Get Their FTP Up To 300 Watts

04:11
At some point we will all start to get a little weaker and lose our ftp or functional threshold power that's just a fact of life. So is it possible to get your ftp up close to or over 300 watts when your over 50 years of age, well i think it's possible with a good training plan and diet. Diet and a training plan are the most important part in getting stronger and of cause staying focused. I say give it a good go what do you have to lose. In cycling everyone wants to get to that magical 300 watts power range. Doing some bike rides at zone 1 will help your muscle to recover if your doing a lot of intense cycling. To increase your strength on the bike you will also need to be doing some intense training sessions and maybe even some leg weights. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk. How To Make a Garmin Virb Elite Camera Bracket | Handle Bar Mounting Bracket

05:27
This is how i made my Garmin Virb elite Camera bracket to mount onto the handle bars of my Giant TCR road bike. This bracket is a million times better than any you can buy in any bike shop to mount these cameras to your bike. It is very easy to make and only takes about 15 min, you will need to buy a Garmin 510 mounting bracket to use to make this, I bought the one that kicks of to the left so the camera doesn't hit the 510 computer. Garmin should make these as standard as the ones you buy in the shop or the ones that come with the virb are a load of rubbish. This mount is strong and won't shake around when on the road.

Do My Cheap China 50mm Carbon Wheels Still Flex Under Load

03:11
When cycling up a hill or doing some big sprints it puts a lots of load through your crank down your chain and into the wheels, and if you ride carbon wheels this load will make them flex. The flex in carbon wheels is normal that is what they are meant to do, it's just part of riding carbon. My cheap china 50mm carbon clinchers that i purchased from the aliexpress site came with bad spokes, they where not good quality and the wheels would flex a lot, so i had them changed here in Australia and they still do flex but nowhere near as much as what they did before.

Vlog - Cycling Training Plan To Build Power Increase Watts

Increase your power on the bike hit those higher power zones. Put out more watts cycling at the end of the day cycling is about how many watts you can push out for a given time. The only way to increase your watts is to train in the higher zones by doing intervals. I use the on line virtual training program Zwift when i'm on the indoor trainer, i also use a stages power meter to get a more accurate power reading to help improve my ftp or functional threshold power.

Cycling Tips : Using The Power Meter To Put a Gap Between Riders

04:36
Training with a power meter will help you to become a better and stronger rider. I use a stages power meter for training and when out on rides, it helps you to understand the situation and build up a picture of whats happening within a group of riders. If you use your power meter properly you will be able to put a big gap between riders and split up packs. You still have to be able to push some high watts but that all comes down to how hard you want to train. If you have a power meter on your bike it's like having a personal trainer out with you all the time. Become at cycling and train with power and learn to push more watts. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk. Cycling Tips - How To Get Stronger on the Hills -

05:07
Some Cyclist love the hills and other can't stand them, i don't mind them because is know if you can get stronger on the hills you get stronger all round on the bike. I'll never be the best hill climber in the world but it doesn't mean i shouldn't practice on them. Hill climbing is as much in the head as it is in the legs, you need to mentally get into gear for a hill climb and by this i mean you need to try and block out the pain from holding high watts for the duration of the climb. When your out practicing on the training days you need to make it hurt this is the only way to build up muscle and get stronger on the bike. A good way to build up your climbing ability is to train with a good hill climber try and hang on as long as you can giving it your all and over time you see the difference, but it does take time. If you can use a power meter i use a stages power meter to help me with all aspects of my cycling. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk.

Using The Stages Power Meter and Knowing Your Numbers

05:50
This is a 2 kilometer hill climbs we use as a training ground along with a heap of other cyclists, it's average grade is at 7% so it makes you work all the way up. This was my 5 and final climb of the day when i saw this guy ahead of me and thought i'd try and catch him up and hold on to him till the end if the climb. I was spinning at around 96 average cadence for the climb and he was doing maybe 75-80 so it suits some people to grind up hills and others to spin, you just have to find what is best for you. I use a stages power meter to gauge my efforts when i'm riding my bike, and since having it it's improved my cycling considerably. The best way on how to climb faster or smarter is to get out there and practice using a power meter, the numbers don't lie. Whats best Carbon or Alloy road bike wheels

02:20
For me carbon road bike wheels are far better than alloy wheels, i've been riding my cheap china wheels for a few months now and they are a heap more comfortable than my other fulcrum 3.5 wheels. The carbon will absorb much more of the road bumps and make it a much smoother ride. My carbon wheels are 50mm clinchers and they do seem a lot faster than my alloy wheels. The only thing you have to get used to with a deeper rim is the cross winds they do blow you around a bit more than with the smaller riims. For longer bike rides or racing the carbon wins hands down.

You can follow me on strava http://www.strava.com look me up Jason Neale. Before doing any type of physical activity to lose weight you should have a check-up with your Doctor first. I have a St Jude's mechanical valve due to a leaking aortic valve and I had no idea my valve was leaking so it pays to have a check-up first. If you want to lose weight and keep it off then you have to look at getting a bike and getting out there and using it. Cycling Pedal Stroke | Cycling Tip | Training Technique For Cyclists

06:23
I'm no professional cyclist but I have been practicing my pedal stroke for the last 3-4 months and it's made a big difference in my overall cycling. I can hold for long when up the front and climb better on the hills so putting some effort in for 20-30 min a week on the indoor trainer will help improve your technique. My technique properly isn't perfect but it's better than it was before and I can see this in my ride stat's. To get a better pedal stroke you can use any old bike and trainer you don't have to go out and buy the best trainer in the world or put your best bike on it, it's all about practice and muscle memory. Best place to pick up a trainer is at cash converters or a shop like that. put the effort in and get the rewards good luck and happy riding.

How to increase your FTP for Cycling (Functional Threshold Power)

06:28
As a cyclist one important factor is our FTP or your functional threshold power, this is the amount of power or watts your are able to hold for approximately one hour before fatiguing. I am wanting to get my ftp from 246 to around 280-300 watts over the next few months so i have a training plan set out that i'll do each week and hopefully increase my FTP. You can also do this by using your heart rate but i thinks it's best with a power meter as it is more based on the amount of watts you can hold. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk.

04:47
Here's a good meal to eat before you go out on that big bike ride, cycling and especially long distance cycling can take it out of you so why not start the ride with a full belly and hit those hills hard. I use my ninja mega kitchen to do this but you can use any sort of blender I guess. This is like a meal but in liquid form it's easy to get down and tastes great also. During the rest of the ride I eat about 3 dates an hour I also use Gatorade powder in my water bottle and for really long rides I take out some extra electrolyte tablets there just easier to carry.

(NOTE When watching this video) i have used 10mm hose and joined a section, don't do this it will make the car run rough, it restricts the fuel flow to much, get some 12.5mm hose and 12mm barbs and it will be fine. when i ordered the fm 100 i was going to put it after the toyota filter, but then decided to but it before, if it goes after you will need the 10mm hose if after you will need the 12.5mm hose) My landcruiser 70 series wagon, i have installed a second fuel filter with a water monitor and sensor in cab. The unit is called a (fuel manager fm 100) got it from diesel care australia, i have the 30 micron filter in the fuel manager and it is set up as the primary filter not a secondary. save your diesel engine from water damage and install a water watch system, this will stop dirty fuel getting into the injectors and causing major expense. Fitting an additional fuel filter to my diesel land cruiser v8 76 series has now given me more protection when i'm travelling the outback. took the truck for a good run after fitting and all seems good, takes about 3 hours to fit all up. i also say there is a bit of a delay on the start up, that was the first time it was started, it all seems to be back to normal now no delay time on start up.

How To Get An Estimated FTP Without Having To Do The Test

01:36
Get an estimated ftp or functional threshold power, this is a number that helps you when cycling to stay within your limited. The best way to get it is to do a 20 minute test on an indoor trainer and take an average of that effort, but if you want to do it the easy way check out my video. Drafting when Cycling does it make a difference Watch my Power Meter

03:32
This is an effort we did on a 100+k ride it goes for about 2.5 kilometers into a head wind, see the difference drafting makes when your cycling behind another rider, the power saving is massive. Keep your eye on my power reading when i pull out to to the right of the cyclist in front, my power goes up about 100 watts. When drafting you really need to trust the rider on front to point out any problems ahead and listen the what they say, at these speeds there is a lot going on so you need to be on the ball the whole way. Drafting is the best way to recover after you have done an effort up the front leading the group out and you should drop of when you still have enough in the tank to hang on to the back of the pack or you get dropped and left behind.

Hill Climb The Difference in Watts Per Kilo Heavier vs Lighter Rider

04:53
With watts per kilo it comes down to power or the amount of power your able to put out vs your body weight, and this only matters when your on a hill climb. Your watts/kilo won't matter so much on the flat, but when you hit a hill then gravity takes over and it comes down to watts/kilo. This is why all the pro riders in the tour de France etc are so light because it's on the hills where the race is won, but the pro riders also have a huge power out put or FTP functional threshold power. We can't all be great hill climbers some cyclists are good at it and some are ok. To get fit and strong at cycling the best way is to practice on hills even if your not a great climber, the hills will make you strong and build your power up. You should consult your Doctor before doing any strenuous exercise or workout, if you have any dizziness or pain you should stop immediately, you do this workout at your own risk. Cycling Tip : Use your power meter wisely be a smart rider

05:19
Having a power meter doesn't mean you become the best rider in the world, it just gives you an advantage over the rest if you know how to work with it and read your numbers. I use a stages power meter to monitor my efforts when i'm out riding my bike it's the best way to understand how your going on the ride. If your doing some efforts with your mates it's important to ride to your watts when it's your turn up the front and also monitor your numbers when your on the back so you can recover properly. Riding to a power meter will change the way you ride your bike on so many levels from hill climbing, sprinting and pace making, at the end of the day it's all about how many watts you can push out not your average speed. I was asked how durable is my heart valve, and from what i have been told by my Doctor it should out last me. But i need to give it a bit of a chance and i do that by eating a well balanced diet high in fruit ans veg, and combine that with regular exercise. One other big factor is i limit the amount of processed foods that i eat. Heart surgery makes you look at life a bit differently, you only get one heart so look after it. Keep your weight at a good level and exercise.

This is just a quick update on how I'm going with my cycling and general fitness with having a St Judes Mechanical Valve. I had my surgery about 10 years ago now and still feel fine and healthy. About 2 years ago I decided to take up cycling again to get fit and help keep my heart in good shape, and I've done this whilst also eating healthy food. I do a lot of exercise each week including weights and a lot of cycling. The best thing you can do to help your heart is keep in good shape and eat good food and cut out as much processed foods as possible. Follow me on strava if you have an account or sign up it's free it will give you the encouragement to keep on going with like minded people.

Update 11-32 Sram Cassette working with Shimano Di2 Short Cage

06:16
This is an update of my 11-32 sram rear cassette working with my di2 shimano short cage rear derailleur. I use my 11-28 more than i do the 11-32 but the 11-32 will be very handy for when i go to France to ride some of the big hills there. Running an 11-32 in this way seems fine for me but who knows what damage it could cause in the long run, i personally don't think it will be a problem but only time will tell. If you have an 11 speed it could work just the same as it does with my 10 speed, everybody told me it couldn't be done but it does work fine. So if you have an 11 speed bike then maybe you just have to give it a go and see how it goes.

Start Of a 100k Ride Pushing The Watts Up Mt Gravatt

07:57
This is a 2 kilometer climb average 7%, so i try and hold Tim on the climb, and do well for the first kilometer then start to get dropped. Pushing over 500 watts at the start then into 400 Watts and then holding around 300 watts is hard. I need to start doing some bigger efforts at higher intensity to get a better time up this hill. With a bit more training on the indoor trainer and out doing some hill repeats i'll get another PB up here soon. As i always say if you want to get stronger on the bike and become better at cycling you need to put the hard yards in. Should You Avoid Foods High In Vitamin K If Your On Warfarin

02:53
When i had my heart operation done about 10 years ago, i had a st judes mechanical valve replacement, i was told to try and avoid food high in vitamin K because it will have an effect on my INR levels. I now eat leafy green vegetables all the time i just make sure i eat them on a regular basis to help keep my levels in the same range all the time. I test my own INR about every 2 weeks and my levels stay pretty much within the correct range. To keep fit and healthy you need to have a good healthy balanced diet and that should also include leafy green vegetables. If you have any worries or questions about your levels or anything to do with you new valve replacement you should consult your own doctor for the best advice. I'm now fitter than i have been in years and do a lot of cycling and some weight training, so you don't have to give up everything in life just because you've had open heart surgery. How to get rid of that Creaking Noise from Carbon road Bikes

07:35
Bike repair tip how to get rid of that creaking sound from your carbon road bike. I had this noise coming from my bike for about 3 months until i got sick of it and decided to eliminate the problem, i tracked the problem down to my seat post, it was rubbing on the inside of the bike frame making that annoying creaking noise. But it's pretty easy to get rid of it by using some grease on the seat post. If you are going to start doing your own bike maintenance and repairs you really do need to get yourself a good tool kit that suits your bike.
